I think if you really eat around 1400 and give it a month, you will see some weight loss.

Sorry to hear you'll be going through all that yuck with the divorce.

Keep it up, stick with it!
Good luck!! :)

Well, this is the first season I've watched but I have learned a lot about their diet and workouts even though they are very secretive about what the contestants eat (they want you to buy the books, supplements etc. etc...thank goodness for the internet) And yes, they work out for hours every day and they increase their workouts the more weight they lose. From what I've found they don't go under 1200 calories per day, but they have personal nutritionists telling them what to eat daily.

Currently, I am a stay at home Mom and I do have the time to work out but I am getting a divorce and my life is going to be very hectic starting in December so I was hoping that for the next few months while I am stuck here in limbo I might as well work my bum off and get a good chunk of my weight loss done. Of course I add in a lot of exercise and my weight loss grinds to a halt.../facepalm

I took your advice and re-calculated my weight loss and fitness goals. SP recommends 1330-1550 calories for me and I tend to get in around 1200. I think I'm not getting enough nutrients so my body is stalling. So I will try to consume around 1400 calories for a few weeks and see what happens (even though it scares me a little to eat more) and keep working out every day. We'll see what happens.

If I lose 1 pound a week it's still progress, if I lose 3 pounds then woohoo! But I am still in the mindset where I won't give up. But I really really want to lose 3 pounds per week haha

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that they are exercising for HOURS a day (like SEVERAL hours not just 2). They also probably cut calories WAY down. It's not healthy for your body. I'm not sure how many people on that show keep the weight off years later.

I just remember watching "Dance Your Ass Off" and one of the girls was having a hard time losing much weight..they cut her to 900 calories a day and I was flabbergasted. If she were to continue that, by all accounts she will probably stall at some point in her weight loss because it's not enough food.

However, that was a show in it's first season and not as popular. Maybe Biggest Loser is more accountable. In that case, maybe they DO have their contestants eat more food to keep up with all the hours and hours of exercise they do.

IDK, I don't really watch these types of shows b/c the people don't lose weight in a good way or realistic way...no one should aspire to lose the way they do because no one can exercise that much and have a life, nor can their body really handle that long-term without injury. I see so many people "oh why can't I lose 8 lbs a week?" well because you can't work out like 5 hours a day (not saying this is what YOU are saying, I know you just want to do 3 lbs)..lol sorry *steps off soapbox*

Spark people recommends increasing calories while working out (well, sometimes..I'm at 1200-1550 per week and I added in 900 calories/week to burn (just small workouts) and it didn't go up...but if I added like 1500 in exercise, it would go up a little). People lose weight by doing what SP says, plugging all their goals in and using the trackers.

So...that's my suggestion..try it out for 4-6 weeks and see what kind of results you get.

Hey,

I haven't been using the suggested spark people diet. I have done a lot of research and the people that tend to lose the most cut their calories to around 1200-1400. What I have noticed though is that when these people start out they usually aren't exercising until later on. I grew up as an athlete so I can push myself to exercise a lot everyday.

I currently have a caloric deficit of 1000 calories per day from diet alone. When I work out I burn between 500-1000 calories. I understand that this might be too much for my body. If I eat more so that I can exercise, will I not just lose the same amount? I can wait until I get to the point where I have to exercise to lose because as I lose weight my body naturally burns fewer calories.

My confusion comes from watching Biggest Loser. I'm basically following the Biggest Loser Diet and pushing myself hard with the exercising. If they can lose 3+ pounds a week by following a low calorie diet and intense exercise then why can't I? I tend to back off when I notice that I don't lose for a few days. I wonder if I keep exercising then will I start burning the pounds away like they do.

I just want to lose 3 pounds a week.

Hey there!

I think that if you are up for it, you should work out as often as you feel like. However, when you do this, you have to eat MORE or your body will stall.

When you put your activity into the Spark tracker, doesn't it raise your cals?

Let me know!

Take care,
Juliana

I need help, I'm about to go nuts!!

I Have been on a restricted calorie diet and feeling very good. I want to add workouts into my routine but when I start working out I either don't lose weight or I gain weight! This has happened 3 times and every time I stop working out I'll lose. I want to lose 3 pounds a week. Should I Keep working out and hope that my body will finally start letting go of the fat or should I stop working out and add it in later? I just don't know

I feel like I must be pushing my body into starvation mode when I work out because I do very intense workouts, but I wonder how the biggest loser contestants can keep losing when their bodies must be going through the same thing?

ARRGGHHHH
