First off, welcome! :)

I second the other poster..most experts will say not to go under 1200 calories.

If you haven't found it already, spark people has a place where you can set your weight loss goals. The healthy range is an average of 1-2 lbs. a week. It will not let you go over the average of 2 lbs. a week (if you lose more than that on average, you usually end up gaining it back anyway).

So, you decide on that and then enter in about how often/how many calories you burn when you exercise. It will also ask for your height and weight. Then, it takes all of that into consideration and it will figure out how many calories, fat, carbs, protein, etc. you should be eating to lose the weight..you don't even have to mess with adding extra or taking some out for exercising or anything. It helps a lot and if you stay in the ranges and exercise regularly, it works.
About every 10-15 lbs. down you can re-update it and it might adjust your calorie range.

Track your food on the tracker and measure out your portions. That was an eye opener for me. :)
Also, just going on the message boards or reading the health articles are a good motivator to get you thinking and in the mindset for healthy choices,

Good luck!!

Hey there! Welcome to SparkPeople!

You have a great attitude and I truly think that is half the battle. You are going to do great.

I would say you should just follow the Spark Way. LOL. Make sure you log your exercise minutes because that will determine the amount of cals to eat. I am not expert, but I would say 1,000 cals is too low - you have to eat enough to get your body working!

Enjoy the site and enjoy communicating with others.

Take care and good luck!

Hi everyone! My name is Angela and I'm new to sparkpeople. I'm 250lbs, and I'm 20 years old. I've always had an issue with my weight, and I really want to get it under control, because it will help with a lot of issues that I have with my health. Right now, I'm committed to eating 1000-1500 calories a day, and exercising when I can. I have three dogs that need to be walked! I am going to walk at least one a day around the neighborhood, which is about 3 miles.

Does anyone have any tips or hints? I really want to lose weight and be healthy and happy. Also, I need motivation! Anyone want to be friends?
