That seems to happen a lot with medication. It's a common side effect with a lot of prescriptions.

I have noticed that since I wasn't being as active in the summer (it's extremely hot here, plus I was on vacation), it's very easy to gain weight back.

Hopefully Fall and Winter will be big losing months for us all. It's a great time to eat a lot of healthy soups!

I have had a series of health issues (painful, but none life threatening), that have led to both being on medication that causes bloating (and general weight gain), and restrictions to my activity level. The combination has left me battling the pounds.

It could be much worse than it is...

You can do it! I would like to lose more too but so far, I haven't had my motivation back, so I'm working on that. I was on vacation for a while so it's been hard getting back into my normal patterns.

You mentioned you know why you gained. Was there a specific change in your life?

I gained a bunch of weight when my thyroid medication was under the amount that my body required. I had the dose changed in August, lost about 10 lbs in one week (!) and now have been going back and forth with it all. I lose a few pounds, I gain a few pounds and it's see sawing back and forth. I feel better though, so I'm focusing on low impact - walking, light cardio, strength work outs. See if that helps get the weight loss rolling.

The scale at the gym showed an 8 pound difference between the start of my workout and the end of my workout. I guess I sweat a lot. That is kind of gross!

emoticon hi new to the team thought this would be a nice topic to be a part of . I weight 185 when I started back up with SP but sadly I was put on prednisone and it cause weight gain. well to tell you the truth I've been on 5 mg of prednisone for 10 years and my weight goes up and down. put now the doctors put my on 30mg then 25mg now i'm on 20mg. the good news it as of last week I weighted 190


This is a good thing since I know people who have been on Prednisone and gain up to 80ponuds so my doctor are very happy.

For a change we got none of the snow! I have been boycotting driving in the snow, so I have not driven in 3 weeks (I drive my brother's car, when I need to go somewhere and he needs new tires, which makes me nervous about driving his car...), but I will have to drive on Wednesday. I am praying for clear roads.

I agree LESLIELENORE, it makes the workout much harder - but it feels good too. Last night I did a 5k in 37:33 with higher intensity (but no hills) and spent some time on a stationary bike. Coming off prior months of low activity, I'm okay with running ~12 minute miles.

In other news, I'm down another couple pounds which brings the overall total to 15!!

The current cooking/exercise strategy is working out pretty well so far. I hope everyone is weathering the storm alright. The silver lining is that shoveling is a great workout!

The other night I felt like "shizz just got real" and ran for an hour on the elliptical. Only 4.5 miles, but it was a rolling hills course so I'm ok with that speed. Took yesterday off, and I'll be back at it again tonight!

Also, I went a bit nuts and registered for the BAA Medley. The 5k (April) and 10k (June) are ok (10k might not be pretty... ), but I'm a little overwhelmed thinking about the half marathon in October. Guess I've got about 9 months to get it in gear!

That is excellent!! Great way to start your new year.

Over the past two months I've gained around 50 lbs, all in my stomach. My face is thin, my arms and legs didn't gain, but I feel pregnant (and I have never been pregnant and never will be pregnant, that ship has sailed). It's disheartening and insane. Aside from never eating again, I'm at a true loss as to what to do. I have tried to talk to my doctor on this, his answer is surgery. Since the issue isn't over-eating, I refuse to go that route. I think it's my thyroid, but who knows. I'll just see where it goes and figure it out from there.

Right after Christmas I started a 100% compliance challenge (nutrition). I have only been off target one day, and that was just barely. I have already noticed an effect on the scale. A nice way to start the new year!

Jenny, that is really frustrating which I can relate to. I am back up to 315 lbs. When I spoke with my doctor he said "welcome to menopause." That was it. Bah! So I get it, with the rapid weight gain it's rough.

I weighed myself today, and I have lost 6 pounds this month! I changed to a low carb diet, and it has really helped jumpstart my weight loss.
