I have a bad back and cranky knees, along with a whiny shoulder. I just started my exercise program, and it involves a lot of water aerobics. My first class was yesterday. There was discomfort from my shoulder, but like the lady said - I just told it to shut up.

I have a close cousin just out of the army. I made the mistake of talking to him about his workout schedule. That's when I realized that I will never ever work out with him!! emoticon His recitation of what he does, and his philosophy brought new terror to the phrase "no pain, no gain".

Learn from the past, set vivid, detailed goals for the future, and live in the only moment of time over which you have any control: now.

I started my way back to healthy living in May of this year and was so out of shape any lil bit of exercise hurt. Not to mention i had -0- endurance. I am Vit D deficient due to my gastric bypass and also have joint pain. I started by walking around my neighborhood. 1st day did 1/2 a block it was not fun but i did it. After a couple of weeks i was doing 3 blocks = to about 1/4 mile. But my knees hurt too much so i bought Leslie Sanson walk at home videos and i am now doing her 4 mile workouts. Her routines are really low impact and doesnt put so much strain on my joints. Well its been working great for me. Low impact workouts keep me moving through my pain. Hope it works for you. Good luck.

I have had a lot of trouble with a recurring inflammation of my lower back. Two years of weekly chiropracter visits only helped a little with easing the pain - never really got rid of it. Bottom line is that losing weight and increasing my core strength are my best chances of getting rid of it. In the meantime, I use ice packs after exercise and occasionally a dose of ibuprofen to bring down the inflammation.

Try hard to work around it if you can. Losing weight will help and the endorphins from the exercise will help with the pain.

Good luck!

Yes pain is sometimes a part of our exercise lives. I am currently icing my knee; just rode my exercise bike. I know my knees are bad, so I try to ice after to ward off pain.

Listen to your body, usually you can distinguish real pain from discomfort. Always begin slowly.

I also don't do hills 2 days in a row.

Allow light into your heart and home everyday.

It depends on the kind of pain, I think. I suffered an injury this morning (fell off the treadmill), but it didn't really hurt until after I ran an additional 3 miles and was doing my cooldown and stretching. My doc has approved swimming for me, but anything else, as long as I'm limping, it's off limits.

I would just work with your physician and see what he/she suggests.

Best of luck!

Jane

I suffer from chronic pain due to a spinal defect and an old leg injury and inflammation because of low Vitamin D levels, so I am usually in pain. One of the biggest helps I found was something I heard Chris Powell say and that is "You are going to be uncomfortable so get comfortable with the discomfort."

Now if I am hurting I ask myself is this really pain or just discomfort? Pain is your body telling you something is wrong so stop. Discomfort, however, is your body screaming at you "Why are you doing this to me? I just want to sit here and eat." Listen to pain, but tell discomfort to shut up and take a hike.

Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and it will get better in time.

I have been exercising for 3 months now and my body pains has gotten a lot better. Some days I did not feel up to exercising but I just pressed my way through the pain. I have lost about 30 pounds between eating healthy, cardio & strength training 5 days a week. Hopefully this helps.

I started walking as excersize. At first, my legs and feet would kill me to the point where I would take whine/cry breaks. But after persisting, it has gotten some better. Also, I have been reading a lot of the walking tips. For instance, I have found that taking shorter steps and keeping my arms at a 90 degree angle like I am running/jogging has made a great difference. I am in serious need of better fitting walking shoes though. I hope this helps!!
Good luck to you!! emoticon emoticon

I was so out of shape when I began a few weeks ago, my feet hurt, and I was too weak to stand for exercise.

I did a chair DVD from netflix by Michael Horn " sit and get fit upper body." It changed my life. It was done in a chair, slow movements that target many muscles.

I felt less pain after the first session, and it made me stronger. I can stand longer now. It also relaxes you and improves circulation. I ordered one for my brother who had back surgery like me, my friend, and my ex.

You work at your limitations until you get stronger.

The best to you

Hi, I am just starting out. I have a lot of medical issues. One is inflammation in my body. I hurt so bad. I know if I could get this weight off it would take a lot of my problems away. Does anyone else have problems with pain? What exercises do you do? Thank you!
