One that instantly springs to mind is something my husband said to me.

A woman came up to me, and told me how something I had done meant the world to her; it changed her outlook on life and made her choose life over suicide. She thanked me and we talked for a while.

When she left, my husband looked at me and asked, "Do you even remember talking to her?"

He must have seen my face as I was talking to her, because he knew the truth. I could barely remember her, much less the conversation.

He then said, "Always try to be the best you that you can be, because you never know when you're making a memory."

I think about that when I'm having a difficult parenting moment, or I'm dealing with someone who seems like they need help. You never know how your words will be remembered, or what importance the person will place on them.

My words of encouragement are not at profound as some of yours. I love them all!

On Saturday, I told my 5 year old niece that I had lost 7 pounds and she said, "wow! You're going to be skinny before you know it." How precious are the hearts of a child.

I just thought how exciting it will be this summer when I can run around with her and her twin brother and keep up :)

All day today, I thought about this thread and saying some of the words of encouragement in my mind. I must say, I got a lot done today. More than I thought I would. You all are wonderful. Thanks.

Hmmmm.... this made me realize that I don't have ENOUGH encouragement from the people that really matter. And I think it's because I still don't always include them in my progress because of that whole "I have to be perfect" thing. I need to change that. Thanks!

LORIRIKE, the great thing about this site is there are not only entire threads about encouraging members but generally if there is a quote or saying or some advice from someone, they don't mind you borrowing them and using them to help yourself.

It is funny how words from years ago come back and make you take them seriously.

Now I have those words everywhere to remind me. Sounds like everyone has some great words of encouragement that they can fall back on. I hope you all don't mind if I borrow of few of them.

I guess about 6 or so years ago I was on track and doing this weight loss thing, I had got down to 260 and for my height and sence 50 pounds are in my boobs! Maybe not that much but alot, I looked pretty good and was in 2x clothing. This dude at work that was nice but liked to talk about wht he was doing more then have a conversation, went to calf and he had a T shirt for me when he returned! Shock and Disbelief! It fit. and he gave it too me saying "I just wanted you to know I see what your doing and your looking great! Your really doing it. Ofcourse that and other things like that form men I internally took the worng way in my crazy parts of my brain and got uncomfortable, EMT's wives started to not want them to hang with me etc and nothing like that ever happened before. Like they didn't trust me? Like I was now compatition. I guess I did not trust myself so I slowly gained the weight back and made sure I was trustworthy. :-( Not this time. This time I am doing it and it is staying OFF!

Mine were from my father as well. I had done badly at a competition. Normally I aced this particular competition and I was devastated. My dad wrote me a note and pinned it on my bathroom mirror. It said, "Life is a series steps, two steps forward, one step back. The trick is learning to live with both directions while keeping the basic momentum going forward." I haven't thought of that for years but it is certainly appropriate to my struggle with my weight.

The world can be your oyster, but first you have to open the shell.

Isn't it funny how what someone says comes back sometimes years after they said it and inspires or motivates you?

I find it is often the things that I perhaps didn't appreciate at the time that are most motivating things later on.

These are some good examples of these statements . Great guys and gals.

I was in second grade and my dad had a necklace inscribed with "straight a student". I was a good, not brilliant student but that belief made me work hard in every class I've ever taken.

Hi Lori and thats GREAT!!!
My parents told me, ALL the time, it was all up to me. I could take the bad days and dwell on them, or i could turn them into learning experiences. i could take for granted the good days, or i could revel in them and tuck them away for dark times. Above all, that i was a unique human being with a responsibility to myself and others to help those less fortunate and be the best person i can be!

Those words of encouragement will definetly help see you through your whole life. I'm glad your grandmother gave you those words to keep in your heart.

My words of encouragement came from my father, you have the power to change your life to any shape you choose. This included my weight but didn't dawn on me until years later. He was/is so right. Thanks Popp !

Just wanted to know what the best words of encouragement you ever received in your life were.

Mine came from my grandmother when I told her what I wanted to do when I got out of school. She told me if I believed in myself and worked hard at it, I could achieve any goal I set my mind to.

It is funny that I remember those words now. I should have used those words in every aspect of my life. Maybe I would not be in the shape that I am in.

I have those words written on post cards in the bathroom, in the kitchen and by my treadmill. I believe those words will help me on my journey to a healthy and fit me.
