I am motivated by making one intentional choice at a time knowing that will lead me to living the life God has in store for me. My goal is no more emotional eating!

I just joined SP on 8/11, woke up this morning and opened an e-mail with a link to this Team Page. What a wonderful motivator!! All of the postings make me feel like I have found such support and understanding. I relate to so many things written and feel like I am not alone in this journey I have begun. Now I know where to turn for encouragement and support thank you to everyone for sharing your motivating thoughts emoticon

For me, I am motivated by the desire to live my best possible life. I started eating as a way to comfort myself after an emotionally abusive relationship & the loss of a loved one. It took me a long time to realize that I was insulating myself from the world. As time went on, I slowly stopped doing the things I love, because of my size. After many years of binge-eating, food had become self-medication. I'm finally at a point where I'm ready to face those feelings, put them behind me for good & get back to living a full & joyful life.

My motivation is 3 things. My kids, My pain issues and the fact I feel like I'm on borrowed time. I'm 345 pounds and I have NO major health issues. No diabetes, No blood pressure issues. And being in health care I know that I'm a millisecond away from it all crashing down. But I'm a procrastinator and a food addict and the combination of both is soooo not good. Today is day 1. I woke up knowing i needed to get on the healthy track but i hate eating breakfast but i did it anyway. my motivation for that was simply my son telling me goodmorning. I will accept any forms of motivation i can grab and hold onto.

I've been motivated by several things. First of all is the change in how I feel daily. I have so much more energy and less pain.

My second motivation is the weight loss, inches lost, and medicines decreased since I've been on SP.

And finally, the time I've been on SP. I have upped my nerve and confidence enough to do things that I would not have done before. I wear swim suits in public, play water volleyball, and I am actively socializing, meeting new people and making new friends. And I've only been on SP for not quite 5 months.

Today I read Mike Kramer's article "Going Through the Emotions" and found it hugely motivating - losing weight is hard and it is a daily challenge. But it is SOOOOOO worth the trouble! So keep making small daily steps forward. Those steps build and build and before long goals are reached and mountains are climbed! : ) emoticon

Many things motivate me depending on the day/moment. However, my new pants, that I bought not long ago, are already too big and trying to fall off. The girls at work are also encouraging. Now if I could just break this plateau. I'm going to blame it on those darn cupcakes we had at my grandson's birthday. I know, no one twisted my arm and I'm not a big cake fan type person but for some reason when you shouldn't have things, that's what you want. We also missed the gym for two weeks but are back at it now. Hubby is a huge motivator there.
Another thing that motivates me is family. I actually got hubby and my mom to sign up for the gym. (if I'm 40+ then you can figure mom is not a spring chicken any more but I got her to join....this make me happy!)

Energy is my motivator. I love to go and hike, bike etc.... I used to walk everywhere and enjoy it. I want that energy back.

Honestly, my motivation is just wanting to look and feel better about myself. Of course I want to be healthy, that's a given, but I want to be able to go out with my friends and not worry about being the biggest one in the room, or if I'm gonna fit in that seat. I want to look in the mirror and feel good about what I see..I don't want to sound superficial, but that's what motivates me to keep going. I've spent my whole life with my weight being the first thought in everything I do, I'd just like to have it be the last thing I think about for a change. I hope that doesn't sound too selfish...lol

My BFF is an amazing motivator for me. She has a way of being supportive, honest, but not mocking or critical. I've loved her since we were in high school together and she's about the only one I know who can point out an area where I might need improvement without offending me in any way. Not just because she knows how I feel, but because she knows what we've been through to stay friends this long.

Also, I respond really well to rewards. I'm like Pavlov's dog, man. So the Spark Points are actually very motivating for me.

I really am feeling you on your posted message - " i want good health, to age with grace and dignity and power of mind body and soul. i want my children to see that at any time you can release yourself from fear and start living a life of love and hope. that failure isnt a weakness, its the oppertunity for success. and i want to look in the mirror and see a vibrant, vital, full of life woman who has life by the***** and not a woman that life has beaten down!" It`s time to finally put this demon behind me and release myself of these chains. I know I can do this. Fixed up my treadmill and have been using it these past 3 days - YES I CAN!

My motivation is to have more strength in my legs right now. All I can do is walk basically but I hope to slowly strengthen my legs again. I also want more flexibility I have lost a lot of flexibility as I got older and I want some back.

What motivates me?? First, and foremost, my body is a temple of the Lord and I have not taken care of it so that is my main motivation. Then the rest is probably like everyone else: I want to be healthy, I want to shop in any store I want to shop in, I want to be happy when I look at pictures of myself next June when my son gets married, I would like to be a motivation to someone else, etc., etc.,

I agree! I have tried everything out there. I feel accountable here. I feel encouraged here. Sometimes just knowing that I am no the only one and that others in my situation have succeeded pushes me forward. I love Spaks and recommend it to anyone who will listen. I just finished up a 12wk challenge at work. I lost 27.6lbs and 30 inches. This has been a huge motivator to accomplish my goal of losing 120lbs. I think the accountability and support of friends made it easier to get back on track. I am starting another challenge at my local herbal life nutrition club this week. Im hoping for another 30lbs by my 41st bday in October. Reading everyones posts has also motivated me. I see others with my same struggle getting out there and being active. Thanks guys!!!

Whenever I want to indulge or skip exercise I put a mental picture in my head of something that recently happened that embarrassed me or frustrated me, like trying on bathing suits at my local Lane Bryant, or sitting in a very tight seat at a baseball game on a hot day trying my best not to spill over into the next seat, while the people with tickets next to me are having a silent fight of who's going to sit next to me. I have so many I made a list and that motivates me to keep going!

Snapdragon, love your goal/motivation, its almost like mine. Want to lose 136 lbs. by the time I turn 50 in May 2012. We can do it!!! To be honest I have several motivators, but one of the biggest is the memory of my father telling me to thank God He gave me a brain because He surely didn't give me anything else. Well, you know what, God gave me this body as a temple, and for the first time in my life I WILL TREAT IT LIKE ONE!

My motivation is wanting to have a family. I know it won't happen until I get healthier (medical issues), so getting myself lighter and with more energy will help me to make that happen!

Well lets see I guess I have a few things that motivate me, first and honestly I want to look good, I want to fit into at least a size 10 pants and strut my stuff like John Travolta did on Stayin Alive except with a little more femine flare yes lol.

And my health as well. I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic and I also got blood clots in my lungs probably from being so inactive, both those things scared me and I didn't like feeling scared about my health.

Third I just want to be able to do stuff like walk an amusement park without getting winded and actually be able to get on the rides you know that would be nice.

I think I can I think I can

To Kathy with the broken ankle!

Sorry to hear about ur ankle. You can do sit ups with a broken ankle! Also if your like i was when i had a broken foot and are on crutches go out hopping. That certainly gets your heart and sweat going so cant be bad! i lost about a stone and a half when i had my broken foot cos I had to hop everywhere. Did my christmas shopping on crutches travelling via the bus and everything! Erm, whilst i remember also painted a bedroom and built a set of bunk beds! My mum always said that I didnt listen!

My motivations are needing to lose 100 pounds for spinal surgery and also the love of my life that I've not seen in 8 years is coming for a visit this Christmas. I've already lost 20 pounds prior to finding Spark. I'm feeling very encouraged.

Before Sparkpeople, I was not motivated. I had given up on myself. The tools and support of other members motivated me to start this journey. That in itself was a big step for me. Today, seeing progress in my weight loss and my attitude motivates me to continue what I have started. Losing over 100 pounds is no easy task but, I know now that it is possible and I will achieve my goal if I keep eating healthy and exercising. Taking time to use the tools and interact with others helps me keep forcused on myself and reminds me to make good choices. Every good choice I make helps me to feel a little more confident each day which in turn keeps me motivated.

My motivation today is to prove to myself and others who said I could not do it, that I can!
