sounds good to me! thanks!

So my hubby Luke was supposed to be home in the evenings now....since he was gone out to the field for the past two weeks, so we enjoyed the w/e and on Sunday night his sgt called and said to pack for at least 3 more days gone. I guess in the big picture 3 days isn't so big, but when your expecting something it just makes me feel bummed. He is getting ready to deploy at the end of march for at least a year....and it just seems like ANY time would be nice to spend with us, but he's gone all the time...this is just a hard adjustment- I guess part of me thought that we would see him more. :-(

Anyway, I hope all you ladies are doing okay.

Amber...I hope your daughter feels better soon, those colds are so nasty...my kids JUST finally got over like a 3 week cold UGH is right!

Ha, I can totally relate, I'm from Missouri where you don't get snow very often and when you do, WHOA NELLY! There's 2 inches of snow on the ground, all life must cease!! LOL Concidentally they are covered in a nice white blanket right about now, and it's a bit more than 2 inches!
Ugh, my daughter (16 months) is sick this week with some type of cold thingy that I originally thought was caused by a tooth breaking through, but I am really not sure if that's the culprit. She's been fine for a couple days until today. ANd while she's acting happy, she's very tired, flushed, and has a runny nose and a fever, slight though it may be. Ugh.
The poppyseed chicken recipe is very simple, but I didn't know if I ought to post the whole thing on here or use some other method. Becky, I think I'll just send you a message with it on there! Sound good?

And I'm broken down to nothing,

yum...I'd love the chicken poppyseed reciepe....I'm always interested in any way to prepare chicken that is good - like we discussed...it's not always easy to prepare it. It's funny about the potatoes...cuz that is exactly how I made them....I like allreceipes.com too. :-)

Yeah my hubby is home after being gone for 2 weeks...we are sitting in NC having a "big" snow storm. LOL it mostly is ice...but I can still see the grass and everyone is freaking out. anyway its really really nice to hang out with the family and really dont' "have" to do anything, and we really can't leave even if we wanted to because literally the whole state is shut down. lol

I haven't made it yet, but it's going on my menu for this next week! I did make something DELICIOUS for dinner and it's only 300 calories a serving! Poppyseed chicken! If you want the recipe just let me know. I paired it with green beans and enjoyed every bit!
I think i've seen an infommercial for that nuwave oven, and I admit I was skeptical! That'd be an awesome thing to have! There's so many kitchen tools that I would love to get, but would rather spend my money on other things, lol!
A good potato side dish that I have made before involves chopping up the potatoes into small sections, using a bit of oil and some seasonings and baking them until soft and crispy. MMMMMMM. If you are interested you can look up specific recipes on allrecipes.com since I don't know one offhand that's really good.
Do you get to see hubby this weekend? How long is he gone for?

Yeah I have a problem finding ways to get chicken and rice to acutally taste good...but did you make the salsa chicken? It doesn't need anything...seriously it is so yummy. And the other thing that I use is the nuwave oven....someone gave it to me as a gift (and I was like what the heck is this) But now I LOVE it....you can literally put frozen meat into it and it doesn't turn dry or anything sooo yummy.

But yeah...I totally understand your chicken dilema. any of you other ladies have any good tips?????

Becky

Oh anyone have a good potatoe reciepe .... I was thinking that I needed to use up my potatoes in the cubbord...I am gonna go on a hunt for something good and healthy (which don't go hand and hand with potatoes all the time). :-)

Hey everyone! Last night I made a recipe for spinach enchiladas that I found on allrecipes and the original recipe was 578 calories per serving and the modifications I made (just using light or fat free ingredients and less cheese) cut it down to about 300! However, it did need some meat of some kind, if I make it again I'll probably use chicken.
Becky, How do you make your chicken and rice dishes more flavorful? I find they turn out dry a lot of the time but have used soy sauce/teryaki sauce to flavor up the chicken, any other ways you've used? The salsa in your recipe most likely takes care of that, but how did you cook your chicken?
Also, I'm sorry your husband is gone again! I hope you had a great weekend with him!

Good morning everyone,
Well today started out better than yesterday. No flat tire. Thank goodness for roadside assistance and flat tire repair warranty. Heard from my DH he is in Kuwait and doesn't know his mailing address for in country. I have to get that from Rear D. Glad to hear that the kids are adjusting better. Sometimes I think they handle change better than us adults. Keep you chin up and keep striving towards your goals.

Yes, the letters are a heaven sent! I was having a rough day when his 2nd one came and it just made my day better just reading his letter and knowing he's doing ok.
Yeah that's what I try to tell myself, that worrying gets me nowhere, but I end up worrying about things anyway usually. Not for a long long time though.
I can't even imagine how much change we're going to go through... it scares me a little bit, but I'm hanging in there & trusting God that all will be OK.

Well I'm not sure what his MOS # is, my dad was asking the other day if I knew his MOS #, I have no clue what that is, I know his job title is Heavy Construction Equipment Operator.

aren't those letters a heaven sent. I too would tell you not to worry about deployment at this point...because you are ALWAYS going to have something to worry about, and frankly try not to (as hard as that sounds) cuz it just ruins your quality of life worrying all the time (believe me I know) and the army changes stuff so much that its pointless. He doesn't have a unit yet or anything...you will know more when he gets stationed somewhere. What is his MOS again??

Thanks a lot Becky, I really appreciate your support! Yeah I hope you all can, and it's nice to have ladies on Spark who are Army Wives as well. It is definitely very hard for me to branch out and get out of my comfort zone, but I am trying a little at a time.

Yes actually, I wrote about that and many other things in a blog today on my sparkpage, but I'll post about it here. I haven't been able to talk to him on the phone since that first phone call, but I have gotten his address, the ID stuff, plus the DEERS stuff to get taken care of. In the first army form letter that he sent with the address he put at the bottom of that letter "LOVE YOU MISS YOU" lol when I first got that letter my heart about jumped out of my chest or it felt like that, lol. But then I saw that it was just a form letter type thing that he put my name, his name and then that Love you & Miss you bit. But just reading those 4 words made my day! That was last Thursday when I got that letter along with the ID & DEERS packet of papers to get taken care of. But I received another letter from him on Tuesday the 19th and he wrote how he was doing, what all they've been doing, told me that our son is much more behaved than 1/2 of his platoon and so for that, they've been doing TONS of pushups. YIKES I wouldn't be able to I don't think, lol. He said he was writing in the dark. Also he said that he is in the Infantry Training Company and that there is a good possibility of him being deployed overseas to be honest, I really did not need to read that part, I don't need the fear and worry right now! LOL But I know he wasn't trying to inflict fear and worry on me, but that's just part of who I am. My dad told me not to worry, that just because he's in that company, does not mean that he will be deployed, he still has the AIT stuff to go through, this is JUST training.

I'm very proud of my son yesterday and today, he did GREAT in school, he's been having trouble concentrating in school and just getting the work that him and the whole class is to be doing. But like I said yesterday and today he did great and did his work like he was to do. PLUS he got to be the helper of the day!

If you wanna read more about what's been going on feel free to read my blog from today. :) www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public_jo

Kris, glad you found us. I hope that we can be an extra support for you...I know the feeling of being "all alone" since I moved to NC it's been kinda lonely...but I am trying to branch out and find groups in the military and such to be apart of...so good for you for going out of your comfort zone- that is by no means an easy thing to do. Have you heard from your hubby since that first time he called?? I totally feel your pain about you son not wanting to go to school, but it gets better...just try not to get to frustrated and know they are adjusting in their own way...(at least that is what I have to tell myself lol)

Amber speaking of pasta cravings...I found this yummy receipe on here...I don't know what you like but I'll try to find it again. if you find any good ones please share...I'm trying really hard to find "good" "healthy" "low cal" foods... (not easy to do)

Cheryl glad you heard from your hubby, and I'm glad your kids are adjusting...how are YOU doing??

Becky

Ok so I'm finally posting in here for I think the first time... I just posted an intro. Becky told me she was going to start this thread, but it's taken me too long to get here I think, lol.

Ok, now my son sounds a lot like all your kids... well he hasn't done the kicking and screaming and crying on the way to school, but... each morning this week and last, he's been prolonging going to school... doesn't want to get dressed, cause he doesn't want to go, doesn't want to brush his teeth cause he doesn't want to go. I posted a bit about him in my blog I posted today. It's been a bit rough for us around here and I think maybe it's been affecting him in school that his daddy left for Ft. Knox and also last week on Monday, his best friend moved away.

I thankfully have my parents and my sister to lean on and have recently met some new friends here in Fresno, but at times I just feel so alone and stuck. I don't drive, never have (don't have a license, I've got my permit, just haven't found the time to go drive or anyone who has the time to take me emoticon *SIGH*) I did however get together with 5 other ladies on the 16th, it was a Spark Meet & Greet for this area and that helped me to get a little bit more out of my comfort zone. I'm terribly shy and it's hard for me to meet new people, but I am willing and able to do it. I've been feeling like I need to do this for myself. So I was proud of myself and I think my family was actually a bit shocked that I planned it, lol as I never do anything like that! We're planning another one very soon. I also run 2 teams on Spark (1 being the Spark Fresno team) along with my very own forum. Which takes up a lot of my time.

Hi Ladies!
Yes, I have been trying out some Spark recipes lately, specifically the "Unchained recipe" contest booklet thing that you can see online or download the PDF for. It features restaurant type dishes that have been modified so they are lower in calorie, fat, etc. I made the tuscan chicken milano pasta a few days ago, and it is okay. Not like super delicious. But it satisfies the pasta craving within me.
Cheryl, I'm sorry about the deployment and I'm happy to hear that your children are adjusting well to the move! I bet the whole family dynamic changes when DH isn't there to help take on day-to-day tasks. But being a veteran when it comes to deployments, you're probably doing much better than I will be the first time my hubby deploys!!! Which, thank the Lord that won't come for quite a while since we are headed to Korea soon. But when it is my turn I'm certain I'll be turning to friends like you all for help and guidance!
I hope everyone is having a great week and looking forward to the weekend! I have a graduation party to go to tonight and I'm going to have to focus really hard to stay on track with my calorie consumption!

Good afternoon Everyone,
Well yesterday went better than I had hoped. The kids have settled in. Bedtime was a little hectic because we usually divide and conquer. Spoke to my DH last night and again this morning. He was waiting for his plane in Germany and then off to Kuwait. I probably won't be able to speak to him until this weekend. Of course the snow came this morning so the snow shovel and I are friends. Paige(4 1/2 yr old)did well in school and the teacher says that we are on course for kindergarten. Hope everyone has a great day.
I enjoy the fruit recipes because during the summer that is mostly what we eat at our house.

Hello ladies....I hope all is well. I have been looking through quite a few of the spark receipes...I dont know if you ladies do, but there is quite a few that look good. I also have tried a few. The salsa chicken is SOOO good and SOO easy, and healthy. I am always looking for great, healthy ideas that actutally taste good. Anyone else have any luck with good receipes?

Cheryl, I'm glad that we can be of some support. Do you get to talk to you hubby at all?? my has been gone since monday and I haven't been able to talk to him. But so far so good....when it's only a couple weeks it seems a bit easier, but it sure would be nice to be able to talk to him- the kids would really like that.

Becky,
No it doesn't get easier but if you maintain the same routine it sure the heck helps. We have found that keeping to a routine especially with the little ones helps with everyones attitude. It has made out marriage stronger because you have to keep the lines of communication open even if it is about the mundane things like the toilet backed up and changed the oil in the car. Having this daily communications sure helps also.

Cheryl,

I'm sorry- I'm sure that today has been hard. It's those little things like the dog waiting at the front door that always make me cry. Sounds like you have been through this many times before...does it ever get easier?? or do you just learn to adapt. My hubby leaves in march/april for a year and I am dreading that like crazy....but I guess it's part of the life....it's just the part I don't like.

Hope all is good, we are here for you!

Good morning everyone,

Well today was the day. DH left for his deployment. The kids handled his leaving pretty good but now the dog is waiting by the front door waiting for him. So today is going to be a blah day but am going to strive to make it without my stress eating.

Hey girls! Hope all is well, I am excited to be enjoying the long w/e with the family. We were gonna go to the aquarium (about 3 hours away) until our dinning room table broke (lol) and we had to go and drop a bunch of money on a new one. So we are just relaxing at home. :-) feels good though. My hubby leaves this next week for two weeks...:-( and that stinks, it gets really lonely around here when he's gone.
I think the same as you Amber when you say you don't want to leave your children with anyone you don't know...I mean I realize that some people HAVE to and I totally understand that. I have been fortunate enough to always have family close to watch my children or my hubby and I have arrange so that one or the other is home. But now we have moved and I don't now a soul...so I am home. I feel torn though because of course i LOVE my children, but I also LOVE being a nurse and part of me just wishes for a day or two out. But I am trying to change my mind to be thankful for whatever life brings my way.

Hope you ladies are having a great weekend!

Hi all! I'm new to the group, 22 years old, mother to one - a 15 month old girl who is the light of my life!
I stay home with her and I absolutely love it! I plan on homeschooling her so I'll be doing this for a while. I have found that I'm not comfortable taking her to day care yet, especially since I don't know any of the people who work at the one on post...I don't like trusting her to people that I don't know. So if I don't have a friend that can watch her or my husband isn't home, I workout at home with turbo jam videos and a couple Jillian Michaels videos. This morning I happened to get out because my husband was home and I did a Zumba class at the gym and burned 500 calories! Whew! That was awesome.
In the morning I'm running a 5k! Not racing really, just running for fun. that is if it doesn't get cancelled from rain!
So, to relate to the topic, my daughter has trouble sometimes if I try to leave her with someone in a place she's not familiar with, but I know once I leave she'll be fine. I used to work in a daycare and it seemed the parents always made it worse for the kids by acting like the parting of parent from child was some dramatic deal. As a parent I can see why it's hard when your child is crying for you, but I have to learn this lesson early!

And I'm broken down to nothing,
but I'm still holding on to the one thing:
You are God and you are strong
When I am weak.

Thanks for the advice. I will definitely try all those and see which one works.. I know she is interested in helping pick out our new house, so when the time comes ill let her help.. Also i think thats a great idea about buying her something.. I think letting her pick something for her new room would be a nice adjustment. We've gone through a lot of traveling and moving with her, so i think she'll handle being away from toys, but if she was away from us, she wouldnt handle it well..

As for baby, i might either let her pick out a gift for him, or i might give her a gift from him.. Not sure yet..

Hope everyone has a great night! I'll be headin to the gym at the crack of dawn tomorrow! Talk later!

Morning ladies...

Hope everyone is well, Kim sounds like you got your work out and will be getting another one soon. Do they not clear the snow? forgive me I come from wisconsin where we are required to clear the sidewalks right away...just wondering. I can say I am NOT missing the snow...not yet at least, it's supposed to be 56 degrees today and I can't wait to go outside.

Kelli- welcome...you know besides the school issue my kids have really done quite well with adjusting to a new place. We talked about it A LOT and went through details of riding in the car, to packing our stuff, and staying in a hotel...I had my 7 year old involved in EVERYTHING that I could, down to picking out a hotel room and a house. I got back packs that I let both kids pick out their favorite toys and movies...they could fill up the bags but then they new the rest would get packed and meet us at the new house. I also did research on what "fun things" we could do in our new place...and we talked about that and made a "wish list" so that we have stuff to look forward to.

Anyway, that worked for my kids...but we all know all kids are different :-)

SO- I have been such a bum when it comes to working out...we have a 4 day weekend coming up and I am mentally preparing myself to start a serious workout. I have "biggest loser" cardio and sculpt that I love and it works awesome...so I decided that is my start date, tuesday day after Martin Luther King. I have been still eating well and stuff...it's just the workouts that I need to kick into gear. :-) It's just hard to start. I'm sure you all can relate.

Thanks Cheryl! I wish my daughter was as excited about school as yours is! She has a lot to talk about when she gets home, but in the mornings she is a total grump butt lol I'm sorry to hear about your hubby deploying. My husband has been tryin everything to stay from being deployed so far. He came back in 07 and in 08 we came to ft jackson. He is non deployable with his current job as an instructor, and he is currently in school for drill sergeant, which he decided to take so he can be home for this baby (he was gone when my daughter was 17months to 31months). Then after that, im sure we will stay at ft benning since our hometown is in alabama, so he will more than likely deploy. But I hope by then things calm down alot more!

And wow KLRJ! you pushed a stroller in the snow??! I tried that in germany once, and it never happened again! lol its verrry hard! you have a lot of perseverance! good for you!

I am a SAHM and have been since 2001. We have four children from 9 to 2. We are currently stationed in England and we have snow. As a matter of fact I had to walk to the kids to school today and push a stroller in it. Let me tell you I got my workout for today and have to go pick them up in about an hour. I am not looking forward to that. I don't mind the walk it's just the snow that slows me down. I had several people say to me that it looks hard on what I was doing. I said out of breath, yeah it is. Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

Hey Kelli,
welcome back. I stay at home and have since I married my DH in 2004. We have a 4 1/2 yr old and a 3 yr old. I also have a 24 1/2 yr old in the Army and a 18 yr old in college. I worked until I remarried and he got back into the service. We are currently at Fort Drum New York. My 4 1/2 yr old loves school and asks every day do I have school today? Do I have gym today? The only meltdowns we have are when my husband gets ready to deploy-oh wait he leaves in 5 days. Fun fun fun. When I was pregnant with my 2nd thru 4th I had the oldest sibling pick out something for the room that was just from them. It seemed to help a bit also I included them in helping like getting diapers, wipes, burp clothes etc.
Talk to everyone later
Cheryl

Hey, its been a long time since i chatted on here.. Just a little intro to start off.. Names Kelli and I'm 25, and have been a marine brat til i married DH, then became an army wife, and have been since 2002. We have one daughter (Will be 5 in march), and expecting a baby boy in april! Currently we are at Ft Jackson SC but will be leaving for Ft Benning GA in June.

My daughter is they same way about school. She hates to leave for school, but once we are at the school shes all happy to be near her friends.. Her deal is attachment and thinking shes going to miss out on things while I am at home ( i dont work and havent since she was born ). She doesnt take change to well, but is slowly getting better. I'm worried the new baby and the move will affect her dramatically. Any tips to make both a better transition?

I miss working too. All i do is sleep now (well granted i am pregnant), but before i was always at the gym and it was summer time so i was busy. But the cold does make you want to stay inside!

Hey ladies,
Kim...you made it!!! Hurray!

And my son is home from school...happy as can be. I don't know what is up with the screaming about school. I asked him if there was something wrong with the new school...or if someone was picking on him. He says no...everyone is nice. So I guess I just have to let him adjust.

So, ladies...do you guys stay at home with the kids...work?? Just wondering, this is the first time I have been a "full time" stay at home mom. I am a nurse and I usually work at least 2-3 days a week, but haven't since the move and due to my hubbies work hours right now. And I have to say, part of me loves being home with my 2 year old, but another part of me is just going crazy. There is no parks close, right now we decided to move with only one vehicle...and now I just feel stuck and just stir crazy.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Our morning started with getting my 2 little ones ready to take the 4 1/2 yr old to pre-school and my 3 yr old didn't want to put on his snow boots. So we were late to school and then my 4 1/2 yr old started crying because her dad leaves for deployment in 6 days. Oh boy. I know what you mean about what do the neighbors think. My 3 yr old is helping with the chores around the house-his job as he says.
I hope your day gets better.
Cheryl

SOOO- starting our chatting group...I have to tell you ladies how the morning started. My 7year old son Isaiah didn't want to go to school (never really does) but this morning was particularly bad. So we started walking the 6 houses down to the bus stop...and he was literally screaming and crying "I DON'T WANT TO GO TO SCHOOL." lol- what my new neighbors must think of me. We just moved here (north carolina) in December, and haven't met any neighbors yet...because it is "cold" here...and no one will come out of their houses. lol

Otherwise, I am gonna try some "10 min spark video" today that my new friend told me about, my goal today is at least one...but would like to get 3 in today. (you gotta start somewhere- right?)
