I am new to this group but not new to the military. I have been an army wife for 12 years now. My advice is to be yourself and get involved in other groups than just the military. You need a life outside of it also. FRG has changed dramatically over the years so get to know some of the people in the unit. If your husband is enlisted get to know his platoons sgt wife and other wives. Gossip is part of every day life, just do not give them information to gossip about. I have worked in schools on post and off and other places and gossip does not just happen on a military post. Enjoy your time with your husband because if he is like mine there will be lots of deployments and lonely nights, so when he is home we do a lot together as a family.

It is true about military wives. It does seem that gossip is everyones favorite past time especially when the husbands deploy. Just remain true to yourself and you will do fine.

I don't want to sound pessimistic, but you really need to be careful what you say to people and who you trust. It's been my experience that a lot of wives are quite catty and who you thought of as a friend, was not. Just be genuine and avoid the drama, hard to do sometimes, but it will make your life much simpler.

Also, be aware and fully follow OPSEC (Operational Security)!

Get to know your Base. I had no idea how many classes & fun things most Army bases offer! Get involved in the groups and just have fun. Remember, if you live near someone you don't like, it's not forever. One of you will be moving! emoticon That thought can help you not let some people get under your skin, and there will be a few...that's just life.

How much the ACS(Army Community Service Center) and the FRC(Family Readiness Center) have to offer a new wife. If you can go the to newcomers briefing and you will get tons of information. Also go to the AFTB(Army Family Team Building)classes. By the way FREE daycare is offered so you can learn and also get a break from the kids.

I just wondering, on behalf of all the new army wives, if any of you ladies had any advice for a newbie? Anything you wish you had known when you first started out?
