When my gyn doctor told me to "eat a little less." He is a skinny guy who has no idea what it is like to be an overweight woman. I had to find a woman who understood the challenges and the dynamics of being overweight before I was able to see myself succeeding.

Seeing myself succeed really made the difference for me to actually make a difference. I find that here on Spark. I have a group of women and men who have similar struggles-- eating healthy, exercising, avoiding pitfalls. Skinny folk may have similar struggles, but they do not have the "addiction" to food that many of us live with daily.

Dr Phil had a great suggestion on one of his shows. He suggested changing your route or routine when you get home. Instead of walking through the kitchen, using the front door or taking your shoes off somewhere else will make it easier to change your habit. If you do the same thing, for example, I let the dogs out, get the mail, come in and put the mail down, etc. If I let the dogs out then walked with them or entered by another door, I would then break the cycle and have a new habit.

How often do you eat mindlessly?

Unfortunately I seem to eat mindlessly when I get home from work. I tend to grab things that I don't need, but they are usually pretty healthy, since I don't keep much junk food in the house. Usually it's a piece of deli meat wrapped around a cheese stick. It's the impulsivity that drives me crazy here. I just need to find something else to do at that time of day rather than mindless eating.

Occasionally. There are times also if I do have the "wrong" types of food around, it will be more "tempting", so I am trying to not have those things around. But old habits are hard to let go of. But I am trying. :0))

I have times when I plan well. Then I don't do a lot of "mindless eating." I find that the food I have in the house influences my eating habits more than the things going on. If there is "junk food" in the house, mindless is common. If I have fresh veggies, fruits, etc, it is less common

How often do you eat mindlessly?

Very often. I usually "come to" when the whole bag or container is gone.

Almost never. I pre-portion my servings and eat without distraction.

Occasionally, like if I snack while watching TV or using the computer.

On vacation I stay active by swimming, hiking, and walking. I tried to convince the guy at the campground to get someone to teach yoga there, but I don't think it will happen.

I'd like to manage my time better. I have days off and I let things get in the way of being healthier. I have had times when I would get up early on my days off and do things so I could be healthier before I got busy with family things, but have let it slide lately.

Not sure when it is going to happen as I have some things going on right now that are taking a huge chunk of my time, but I'll be working on it. Life isn't going to get better when this crisis is over. Just different.

I have two ways I work out. 1 is by walking almost every day. I started the summer at .75 m. and am up to 1.2 in 26 min. I'm trying to get my time down and increase my mileage gradually.

Chores is my other method of working out. gardening, painting, heavy cleaning, etc. Oh, and those heavy books I read must count for something.

lots of walking, but I also try to do some exercises while waiting for my turn in the shower...at least stretches, or marching in place, knee lifts, etc.
