I like walking a measured distance like a mile I've figured out using a car or walking a track. I count the steps it takes me to reach the mile and that is what it takes. I adjust my pedometer until it reflects that amount. I do write the number down and keep it somewhere safe so when I change the pedometer battery I can put the number in.

I find that 10 steps is too short a distance to keep me honest and I usually walk a little differently than I do in real life. Walking a longer distance keeps me more honest and I find it works almost all the time for a good number of total steps per mile.

My daughter loves walking. So I think I am going to go for a short walk to try and get a few of my steps in before I have to go and pick up the other two kids I nanny. Have a wonderful day everyone and good luck to everyone. If my stride is 20 then how many miles does 10,000 add up to. Does anyone know? I just purchased a pedometer yesterday. I guess that I will figure it out if no one knows.... Thanks and good luck to everyone!!!! =)

You can get some walking exercise in while watching your favorite program. One night i walked in place and watched American idol to get my steps in. and before you know it you have put in some miles. So make watching tv count. Pat

I walk, rain or shine, as long as there is no lightning.

New low reached 149.2 lbs on 5/6/11. Made my weight watcher goal on Tuesday, May 3, 2011.
New walk record 9/9/11, 4 miles in 58 minutes.

I'm lucky, I have a treadmill.

But I use a lot of exercise DVDs, too, and those can really rack up steps.

Of course, we don't really melt either. It's the very rare day that I don't get out with the dogs to walk -- there's usually a break in the rain somewhere. Winter might be a different story.

I walk in place when I iron and wash the dishes! It really adds up!

DIET IS A FOUR LETTER WORD!!!!

From one end of my house to the other is about 50 steps. It is about 20 steps from my dining room to the back door and another 25 steps from the dining room to the back bedroom. I have 13 stairsteps and another 45 steps from one end to the other of my next level. You can get the steps in but it is a headphone thing or a really good CD on the stereo.

I like the walking videos and I have been known to go to Walmart without my wallet and walk up and down every aisle. It is amazing what you can do when you get creative.

I have a path in my home big enough to do some pretty good walking. Put on some good music in the house, and it's not too bad.

You can do it at home. One time when I was house bound baby sitting a grandchild, I took the stairs for 20 times or more..
You may not reach 10000 steps but you can sure burn calories.
Jump rope or bouncing in place would help too.

Jamie, have you ever tried Leslie Sansone's Walk Away The Pounds DVD's?

She has a whole library of them. They are available at all local stores suck as Wal-Mart, Target, and others. Also Librarys have them. Go to her website, or Amazon.com, or Collagevideo.com. They aren't that expensive and she is wonderful.
