Tregiani,

I loved the article. I need to do that. I already only use recycled paper towels, but stop using them for good would be fantastic. I wonder if I can make it!

Greetings! I wanted to invite you all to a brand new social networking site started at the end of March. I believe they have just over 100 members but the whole idea is uniting individuals that are interested in going green. The following is an email from the creator, Tom Reid:

Hi everyone! I hope you’ll allow me just a moment of your valuable time. Some of you are clients, some vendors, many friends, family and just folks I’ve bumped into!

As some of you know, I’ve been working on a “GREEN” project since last year. Yes, I’m still taking pictures and making films! Last year, I decided to educate myself and our family on our planet's environment. Stacey, McKenna, Marley and I basically started being “greener” by using refillable water bottles, reusable grocery bags and curb-side recycling containers.

Please take a moment and visit http://www.gocrazygreen.net. I would like to personally invite you to SIGN UP on our network today. It’s kinda like facebook but focused solely on being a source for tips and products on “GREENING” your home and business. IT’S FREE!

We’ve only had twelve of us on the network while we tested everything and now I need your help. I need people to SIGN UP today to support the CRAZY GREEN™ network. Help me keep outside ads off of our network! I can only do this with a lot of support from friends like you. Please forward this email to everyone you know.

Then, watch a video, add some pictures, or even join a group on there. I know a few of you who have a lot to share!

In the next few days, you may see our webmercial show-up on one of your local media web sites across the country. In April, you’ll see our Yahoo! store come on-line featuring great brands like Seventh Generation, Blue Avocado, KOR Hydration Systems and many others. CRAZY GREEN™ has also partnered with 1% for the Planet. 1% of ALL SALES will go straight to non-profit organizations to help promote a “greener” world.

Participate in Earth Hour this Saturday evening, March 28th, at 8:30pm. You can read about it on http://www.gocrazygreen.net. Better yet, share your Earth Hour experience on the CRAZY GREEN™ network! Also mark down Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22nd.

Please help support our network and share this email with your family, friends and co-workers. Sign Up today at http://www.gocrazygreen.net.

Thanks so much for your help and support TODAY!

i own one of these... it cost me $10... and it is literally one of my favorite things i own!

these sacks roll up to be *tiny*. i'm talking smaller than my fist. but when they open up, they're huge! totally convenient to carry around with you at all times because they're so small and large enough to hold almost any errand you run (except maybe if you do one major grocery run a week).

i haven't had to take home a plastic (or even a paper) bag in months! and they're cute too! i highly recommend them!

Hello, I am new to this group and absolutely love the idea of raising global awareness. I have made my own reusable grocery bags and really take notice as to how cashiers of certain stores find this offensive or inconvenient. Grrr..... Walmart is the worse but Krogers rewards you with cents off. Yay!

I looked at the sites listed. Very good. I am a long time activist in so many things. I did not see one great place and that is www.care2.com .
It is a community that addresses global issues. I love it and have been a member since 2001. Free to join by the way. I am sure everyone in here would enjoy it. There is so much goodness in that community as there is here. Best wishes. And thanks for being a part of the great and positive change taking place.

Blessings. emoticon

Hi everyone! emoticon

Please Help to Raise Awareness for Green Living and Eco friendly tips & techniques for recycling and using less of our natural resources by using less paper goods, gas, etc etc. Please post your favorite tips, ideas and emoticons as often as you like! This will give people new ideas that they may use also, as well as keeping the topic on the front page of the SP Game Room, which will help more and more people become aware and thereby help our environment even more!

I have been doing more eco-friendly things around my home and in general and I wanted to share with you, if I may! I have been doing my part to contribute to the Going Green efforts to recycle, save a tree and keep down the excess trash and waste in my household. I got some of my great ideas from SP.

I started a fun thread ‘Your Favorite Go Green For Today’ which is on the SparkPeople Games section of the Community Message Boards! The emoticons are located under the ‘other’ section!

I am sending you the link to that and was wondering if you would be so kind as to help the environment a bit more by posting on this thread as often as you would like, so that more people become aware of it and post to it and 'spread the green'!

I think that as more people see it on the threads and get their points for posting on it as a quick little thing to do each day, the more awareness people may have and actually go greener a bit in their lives! I actually have done much more of that since being on spark and getting some great ideas here!

Thanks for your help and please feel free to post this on your other teams, if you like.

Have a wonderful week!

My friend, Christine, has started a business making beautiful pillows from recycled plastics. Not only does the stuffing eliminate so many plastics from our landfills and eco-system, it also provides employment to marginalized individuals.
Here's her website: www.greenbeanstudio.ca

Also, there are many great craft sites with tutorials on how to re-purpose clothing and other household items. My favourites are www.craftster.org, www.craftzine.com, and www.burdastyle.com, the home of Burda Sewing, where there patterns are open-source and many are free to download and print. And www.etsy.com is a fantastic site for vendors to sell their handmade goods.

My favorite site, though not just "green", is this one. It talks about what you can do for your planet, your community, yourself... from recycling to becoming active in your community for/against things that we know are right/wrong but haven't known how we could help.

Here's a site that sells reusable bags (for grocery shopping and such). What I like about them most though, is the information on the dangers of plastic bags... they have a ton of information.

This is a site that has a LARGE amount of eco-friendly sites all in one place! Talk about consolidating =)

This isn't exactly a "green" website, but there are tons of recycled items and reusable items (ie. grocery bags, diapers, sanitary pads etc.)

I found this in a previous Country Living magazine...they make toothbrushes out of recycled materials...then give you a postage paid envelope to SEND THE BRUSH BACK to them (every 3 months, you know!) so they can reuse it! Pretty darn cool!

www.recycline.com/toothbrush.html

They have other stuff, too -- I just read about the toothbrushes.

I've moved this here after a couple of requests : ) YEAH!!!

Since we're all trying to make healthier choices for ourselves I thought I would share this article that came out in the Los Angeles Times that talks about making healthier choices for the environment through our diet:

www.latimes.com/features/health/la-m
e-
lowcarbon22apr22,0,2563195,full.story

It talks about reducing our carbon footprint associated with our consumption... i.e. eating lower on the food chain as well as local foods (therefore reducing gas emmissions associated with transporting our food)...

Interesting figure showing this:
www.latimes.com/media/acrobat/2008-0
4/
38123788.pdf

and with the carbon footprint of eating red meat: www.latimes.com/features/health/la-0
42
208-me-a1locarb-g,0,3115895.graphic

Food for thought! : )

"A guy who came to Fight Club for the first time, his a** was a wad of cookie dough. After a few weeks, he was carved out of wood." --Narrator (Fight Club).

*Think about my choices before I make the wrong ones.
*Be accountable for the wrong choices and fix them!

Very Cool! I googled "cards with seeds" and got the website below -- they don't seem to have the actual cards anymore (or they're just out of stock), but the other stuff is neat, too. I just can't afford any of it! www.earthfriendlygoods.com/

This is another cool site that I found -- they have "Blooming Wrapping Paper"!! The link I have here is to all of their products made from recycled and/or reclaimed materials. Pretty creative things they've done here!!

Hi all! I'm new here and thought I'd start by contributing a link:

www.idealbite.com

This organization sends their newsletter every day via email offering the tip of the day type thing. They have lots of good ideas that seem inovative to me (I'm new at this).

I was a bit disappointed one time when they put out a newsletter stating that it's greener to eat kosher, not only for the environment but also for the animals' sake; however, when I was a veggie years ago, I read that kosher eating is very cruel to animals b/c of the method by which they must be slaughtered in order to fulfill kosher requirements. I sent them the info. and never heard from them.

I wondered since then just how much checking up they do on their sources, but I could be wrong about the whole thing. And I was disappointed that they didn't at least get back to me.

Apart from that, they seem a good source of info., and they write in a clever and fun way.

Another great link for kids and adults is:

www.storyofstuff.com

It gives the whole breakdown of where all our
"stuff" originates, where it goes from there, and then where it ultimately ends up. Both my younger kids (and I) were really amazed at this process and how destructive it is, and were better for having watched this b/c it challenged us to take responsibility in ways we hadn't thought of (like quit buying so much STUFF). It's 20 min. but isn't boring!

Check out this site!! It's a really neat way to obtain gently used items (or get rid of) locally, online, for free -- instead of throwing it away! I wasn't sure if there would be a local group where I live, but there IS! Find out if there's one near you!

Also, this website has different ways that people can take action on different government bills by contacting their senators. I've used it quite a bit. Currently they have one up on global warming and climate change.
