Not a fan of stevia. I use Equal or just regular sugar if I need something sweetened, but rarely use either these days since I drink unsweetened iced tea, don't drink coffee anymore, and don't usually need sugar for anything else unless I'm baking goodies, which I am trying not to do!

Well girrrl
We are definitely an old southern family. My grandmother used saccharin for sweet iced tea 50 years ago. We have always used artifical sweeteners in ice tea. emoticon

Hi, I really can't use stevia, it leaves an after taste that I'd rather not endure. I am not a big tea drinker, but I do like Oolong. I will mix green tea with at least one other. Have no idea why I have so many in my cabinet. Better get on with reading my mail. Have a great night and an even better tomorrow!
Love to all who are reading this!! emoticon , Betty

Me too, JAVAGAL47 I use those as well - raw honey if possible and the xylitol or erythrinol blends are both sugar alcohols and why they agree with me better than the splenda, aspartame, asulfame (sp?), saccharine, and other artificial sweeteners, I don't know. I also avoid the "Truvia" since lot of those in the grocery store you have to watch out for, as it is mostly dextrose or fructose and just enough stevia to barely be legal in calling it "stevia" (in my opinion, and the taste test flunks out with me as well!!)

Yea - I remember living in Florida and my husband grew up with sweet tea in SE Oklahoma - he said they liked to have a little bit of tea with their sugar!!

But we're good with Stevia here - I get the SweetLeaf or the Stevita (either online at Amazon etc or in town at one of the various health food stores.). My husband can't seem to handle the black tea anymore with his bladder issues, but when we do have like green tea, herbal teas (teasines), or my favorites like oolong, we tend to use the liquid if it's a cold tea. If it's still hot, then the powder or the little tablet ones will melt sufficiently (get it stirred up and melted before you add your ice.).

There's also a brand that some might like, and I take a notion to it every once in awhile, and that's Stur - comes in various fruity flavors - still sweetened with stevia. If you like a little touch of peach or blackberry etc flavor in your black tea, these are fun and don't have any splenda. I have also seen them in grocery stores - at our Dillons (which is a Kroger affiliate), it's usually on the top shelf, in the same area where you find the splenda laced water sweeteners - so, if it helps, take a look at the link and you may recognize it at the store without the bother of ordering online. (or it can be a good "add-in" to make your order up to the "free shipping" amount needed to qualify for shipping.).

I personally can't deal with the Splenda or aspartame or those types... so it's stevia for me!!

And for the yukky hard water, I use Brita Water filter but I think there are many more that are just as effective - in any case, just getting the water to taste better has helped me rely less on the sweetened beverages and soda pop. I was a DrPepper addict for years and years, and having tastier water was a big ticket to helping me cut back off the sodas and super sweet beverages.

Hope that helps??

I use Splenda. It may not be the best thing for you, but I think of it as the least of my transgressions ...

I too would not take Splenda, or any other fake sugar. I use xylitol or honry.

my doctor prefers I use Stevia rather than any of the other artificial sweeteners....

Can anyone tell me what the consensus is on sweet tea using Splenda? Here in the south sweet tea is as basic as greens and cornbread. emoticon
