Wow!!! Good morning everyone. I can't believe so much time has passed since my last post. I have been in upstate NY for almost 7 years. With this change in my life i kind of let spark off the hook for that time. Now im back because i really needed more structure. I have had a knee replacement twice, carpal tunnel release and recently i had a revision of my spinal cord stimulator. After the high stress i experienced through the first surgery i wasnt looking forward to heading back on the table but the battery really needed an upgrade. So without having to touch the leads attached to the nerves i had a new battery upgrade. No more do i need to charge 1 x a week. This hurt post op much more than the original and the bruising was incredible but with any new model i can program 3x's more target areas. Still on oral pain meds but im comfortable. Winter sucks for outdoor activity. But i have been using my treadmill daily. I recently lost my brother Dave. He had a hip replacement before christmas. Had his daughter and her family at his house over the holidays. A week after they went back to Florida and only a day after i spoke with him on the phone (telling me how great he was doing) my oldest brother found him on the floor of his bedroom. Im still trying to grasp that reality. It hurts but i know that he is watching over me whispering his wisdom.
So with all that going on I wishh all of you a Happy New year and a Happy Saturday in February. ~hugs~

wake up every morning. Put your feet on the floor and accept that this is a new day. I will succeed, because I am awesome!!!!!

Good Morning and Happy New Year.
I have had a whirlwind couple of months. Between dealing with my pain and trying to continue with the routine that i have stuck with. I took a trip to new York to visit my new grand daughter of 5 months and when I returned someone wanted to buy our house. wanting to know when we would be out of the house so they could take possession. In a 1 1/2 weeks we had our 2500 sq ft home packed and moved into a 1400 sq ft rental. It is not a pretty site since there is 5 months until we can go north. we packed this house with boxes and furniture and settled in. Needless to say I am not good with stress and my routine that I found so comforting went out the window. Within 2 months I have gained back my weight. . But I have admitted my failure and will stand back up and smooth my hair and get back to it. My A1c did manage to drop. It is finally heading in the right direction. .. I hate new year resolutions but I am up for this new challenge to stay on track. Here I go...

IT IS HARD TO BELIEVE THAT IT IS OCTOBER ALREADY. OF COURSE YOU CAN'T CONVINCE MY HEART THAT THE FALL WEATHER IS UPON US. HERE IN FLORIDA WE GET *COOL MORNINGS* (68) UNTIL THE SUN COMES UP) I MISS THE COOL CRISP MORNINGS OF NEW ENGLAND. OF COURSE THE WINTER MONTHS ARE ANOTHER STORY. ANYWAY WITH ANOTHER MONTH COMES ANOTHER APPOINTMENT WITH MY PAIN MANAGEMENT DOCTOR. IT HAS BEEN A COUPLE OF PAINFUL MONTHS AND WITH THAT A WHOLE LOT OF ANXIETY WITH TALKING WITH THE DOCTOR. EVEN WITH BEING A NURSE FOR MOST OF MY WORKING LIFE DEALING WITH DOCTORS IS NOT ON MY FAVORITE LIST.
SO WE SAT AND TALKED. IN PREVIOUS POSTS I MENTIONED THAT THIS DOCTOR IS PRETTY COOL AND WILL ACTUALLY SIT AND LISTEN. WITH ALL OF THE NEW REGULATIONS AND RED TAPE I ALWAYS GET NERVOUS BUT WHEN I TOLD HIM THAT MY ACTIVTY LEVEL HAS DIMINISHED QUITE A BIT. I WAS ACTUALLY SORRY I REQUESTED THE DECREASE IN THE DOSAGE. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO LOSE ANYMORE WEIGHT WITHOUT THE ACTIVITY. SO HE AGREED TO LOSE WHAT I HAD WAS NOT GOOD. ACTIVITY IS IMPORTANT. SO HE INCREASED MY DOSAGE (I GUESS I HAVE TO ACCEPT THAT I NEED THE INCREASE. ) MAYBE WHEN THE WEATHER COOLS A LITTLE BUT FOR NOW IT IS WHAT IT IS. AND I AM OK WITH THAT.

I don't have access to a heated pool unless I travel. I do have a hot tub and make good use of that. Thanks for your thoughtful comment.

Good Morning, Here is my monthly pain management update. I went to see my Doctor this week. We shared a long conversation on my pain issue. It is weird to say but I kind of like this guy. he is caring and listens.(really listens). I know that the main objective is to keep reducing my medication. I tried on my own for a week to drop one every 12 hour pill and went through the roof. i thought that I would try it before he did and didn't have a back up plan. Once they take away you don't get it back.So I told him what I tried. And that I knew that it was a rotten idea after the first week and went back to the way it was ordered. he was cool with that. He picked up on my depressed mood and told me to give it a few more months, Maybe we could give it another go then. He reminded me that a year ago i was taken some real heavy narcotics and have made great progress. Not to be so hard on myself. So with that in mind I am back .

Hi. You are doing great. Have you tried walking in a heated pool. I belong to the Hospital for Special Care. They have the therapy pool which is heated to 93 degrees and the fitness pool. Walking laps in the therapy pool is very helpful for my degenerative disc disease and my knees. I also do my cardio and strength training in the pool.

I love SparkPeople

Pain is so difficult to handle but take it a day-at-a-time. Hopefully with the nerve stimulator, it will be a challenge, but you can do it . . . day-by-day. Wishing you luck. HUGS

You can make the changes and see what happens. I am not being flip about it, but simply saying that you NEVER know what might happen. I have been on insulin for years and have not needed any since late June. The doctor said it couldn't happen - but it has. I was barely able to walk when I started and now I have gone off pain meds entirely and other than the aspirin for heart, I take NOTHING for pain. It is NOT guaranteed but even reducing your medications is a MAJOR step. I wish you a healthy and successful journey to a healthier YOU.

Hi everyone. Still plugging along trying to stay focused and work at eating properly and staying healthy.I went for my pain management appointment this morning. I have been working at reducing my need for narcotics. Since I had this spinal cord stimuator placed in my back I have been working at coming off of the pain meds. It has been a struggle but I am winning. Last month I asked to go to the next lower dose and my doctor agreed . I have been working at increasing my mobility and trying to lose the weight. This past month has been a struggle. Kind of depressing to think that I may need a low dose pain med forever. My weight is dropping. Slowly. I have pushed onward with walking. I was walking 4 miles a day with my husband but with the med change we were only able to tolerate 3 miles. So there are no changes for this month. Hopefully my body will adjust and accept what I am striving for. I am still hoping to meet my goal for the end of this month but if not I will try for the next month.
Hugs to all and hope that your journey is going well.
