The trick my doctor used was to hand me a lump of plastic and asked me how much I thought it weighed. I guessed about 10Kg which was correct. Then he said think what its like to lug three of those around every day, that's what you're doing. Over the past two months I've shed about 15 kilos using SP, you can achieve the 7% weight loss without feeling you are missing out. Good protein/carb/fat balance and exercise will get you there.

You can still have milk - but it should be skim milk. If drinking it is too abrupt a change, start by using it with your cereal and when you need milk for cooking. Sometimes people enrich it by adding powdered milk - adds flavor and not many calories. You were getting lots of fat calories from that 3/4 gallon/day! That one change alone should make a big difference.

My Dr. says I'm clinically obese and very close to being pre diabetic. I also have severe sleep apnea due to obesity, which is causing heart problems. I would rather lose the weight than go on assorted pills or see my health decline.

I have used the food intake tracker for 3 days and that is incredible. Never counted calories before, I find it to be real helpful!!

Haven't changed my diet, but I eat less of it and more water. Never drank water, just milk....about 3/4 gallon a day of milk

Sorry for the long post....this group is very helpful just reading what you're all doing. Thanks, Larry

That should be NO problem. 90 days, 7% and you are a man and we all know men lose faster than women.

It makes sense - not the 7% so much as setting a reasonable goal - one you can envision yourself accomplishing within a given time. One of the articles on Spark suggests setting the goal of losing 10% of your weight, and then, once you've done that, set another goal to lose another 10% (it will be a lower amount), and continue until you reach a point where you say, "I'm done!"

That's about 2 pounds a week. You can do this. Track your intake. Make some small changes like not snacking in the evening or snacking on veggies. Shave a few calories off your food by adding less cheese or sauces and grill or broil instead of fry the meat. You may find the little changes are going to make a big difference in your life.

My doctor doesn't say anything about my weight (she's actually more out of shape than I am.).
My trainer says that I can lose 1 to 1.5# per week. If you work it that way, it doesn't seem quite so bad.
Although I haven't been able to do it on my own, I think the new almost no sugar eating plan and the consistent workouts will help.
Keep us updated.

More than 18 lbs in 3 months is a lot! BUT a goal is good. I can't lose that fast, but men can usually go faster.
good luck.

My Doc says to lose 7% of my weight before I see him again in 90 days. Has your Doc ever asked that of you?

Seven percent seems to be very healthy over a 90 day period. That's my goal. Thanks to Sparkers, I am optimistic I'll get it done.

PS. He says no matter what a person's weight, 7 percent in 90 days is reasonable and healthy....
