I recently had an annual blood test and although it was a good report I was on the edge of being diabetic by a few numbers.

1- Reason to lose weight is to get my AiC number down lower before I register as a diabetic.

2- Tough to tie my sneakers with too much belly fat.

1. Not having to take any medications (save money and time)
2. Being independent as long as possible. I don't want my children to be taking care of my daily needs.
3. Being able to walk all over the Disney World parks (12 hours some days) and the zoo.
4. Continue working out super hard at the gym 2-4 days per week.
5. continue being able to hit the dance floor.

So many good reasons, I will add mine, For me it is to keep me from suffering from depression through winter months, not having to go on medications due to SAD, and I have a few concussions, so to keep my memory. The gym I work at is just beginning a program to help those with brain injury to recover. So I am learning the importance of exercise for brain health. Of course for my health as I am going into mid 50's, I don't want to have to take medications or have joint problems, or develop high blood pressure or have heart disease.

The number one reason is to feel better and be healthier. I love to run and the more weight I carry, the harder it is to do that and the more susceptible I am to injury. I love long runs. I haven't been able to run long over the past couple years without flaring up my Achilles tendonitis. It all comes back to the weight gain. Thanks for your encouragement.

Thank you all for posting. This is very motivating to me and I feel like I'm ready to focus on being healthy. I keep popping in and out without making any commitments or moving forward on anything regarding my health. Now I am ready to research again and focus on health instead of always on what I weigh. I want to be here for my grandkids and family, so today is the day that I make a plan. It was very good to read these posts, I needed that.

Mobility in old age. As a nurse, I saw plenty of old folks whose joint were worn out, or whose backs were killing them because of extra weight. Also, if you have a stomach that hangs down and creates a fold, it can become a health issue in later life as yeast loves skin folds. So it's about a long,healthy life!

My first reason is to get and stay healthy so I can see my two sons grow up and be there to advise them when they need my advice! My second one is to lose weight for me/my health and be around for my husband and family! Next would be so I can get better sleep. I find that when I exercise daily I sleep better! For our brain function as well ! Not just to de emoticon emoticon emoticon stress but for the increased ability to focus ! It helps so much ! First it is so I live long enough to see my children's future and be there if they need me. So to be Healthy. I love eating healthy and learning about nutrition. I have epilepsy and fall when I have seizures. The heavier I am the harder I fall. I have had epilepsy since 4yo I am now 58 and my perfect weight is 145. I am now 165. I also want my husband of 25 years to eat healthier so he will be around to be with me. He eats what I put in front of him!!! He is a wonderful man. I know God will and can do all things for me so I Am going to get to my perfect weight one day!! God Bless You and I wish you the best.

I want to lose weight because

I am a strong person and the weight is the only part of my life I am not in control of. I need to control.

I have a few reasons, but of course the main reason is to be healthy. I am also disabled and use a cane. When I was heavier it was touch lugging my body with the cane. I also have arthritis and the exercise helps with the pain.

I have many reasons to loose weight.... which all add up too....

FEELing HAPPY and HEALTHY

at my age now.. its no longer about how I look, as much as
its about how I feel -to be able to do some of the things
I was able to do when I was younger
Makes me feel HAPPY & HEALTHY
To be around to watch my Grandkids grow up and
to enjoy going to their activities
Makes me feel HAPPY & HEALTHY
to be able to go to my closet & not have to take hours
figuring out what to wear to make me feel comfortable...

My reason is my health. I had an accident at work hurt my hip and back. I've had one hip replacement, awaiting another and my back is always out. Unfortunately, I can't walk without pain. However for me I must lose weight in order for me to bare less weight on hips and back. It is important for my health and my family. I have to be there for them. I set the example.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed - these are all great ideas. I have recently had to replace many items of clothing due to increased size, so here are my reasons for focusing back on this, much like yours.....for snow pants to stay done up and swish less, to do up ski boots and skates without a head rush, to be comfortable in the hot tub, to reduce feelings of age and stiffness

One of the reasons that comes to mind this morning (I have loads of reasons) is so that I will be able to bend over to tie my shoe without my stomach getting in the way. emoticon

I was diagnosed Type 2 Diabetic in 2007. I weighed 242 lbs. I played around eating sugar and drive thru fare until 2008 when I started having complications. Well, those complications scared the poop out of me, and I started healthy living. I lost 100 lbs, and have no complications anymore. So, I've done it for my health and well being. One day at a time!

For me, the most important reason is to be healthy later in life. What you do for yourself now will pay dividends as you age. It becomes more difficult as you get older to manage your weight, so do it now. Eat healthy, exercise and keep positive.
