Thanks for the encouragement, Sammi!

Mumsy, enjoy your trip. Seeing family is always great.

Dale, of course 'she' is horrible and of course you have every right to be highly incensed and upset. How awful for your son, adult or not. Even with an ex I'm sure it's a shock and sad to hear of his passing. And what an awful way to hear. I hope your son will realize the comfort you offer and let this pass eventually.

Thanks SAMMI,
I did need to get that off my chest. I said it to many people in an attempt to shout it to the world, as if her world could hear me. But I know that they won't. Yes, our family and friend circle may be small but it is supportive and loving, and we ARE THERE FOR EACH OTHER.

(It did feel good to shout all that out.) ...Make a Hospice Nurse send the information. Outrageous balls of a female brama bull. (on the floor cowbell ringing from there) Ha! I know, it's merely a mythological image. But fun.

please, no one be offended by me today!!!!! give me some slack.

Dale, good to get that off your chest! I firmly believe what comes around goes around -- it does happen and unfortunately you can't choose when. Unhappy people are not nice people. Be Happy --- your son has you and you have your family and friends and Sparklers.

Mary, eat healthy and take good care of yourself.

Overate at a buffet restaurant but had fun. Scale is jumping between 141 and 143 which is exactly within a normal range that is acceptable.

I KNOW THE HOLIDAYS ARE VERY ROUGH FOR SOME FOLKS. Just ease on down the road as gently as you can. Forgive me in advance for what I am about to share. I have a need to rant this and only wish it could be on all North Carolina news releases so everyone in her world would know.

Here's one to top this year's OMG experiences:

My ex husband's death two days ago was communicated to my son by a hospice nurse through an email (!) because 'the wife' wanted him to get her message loud and clear.

She told the nurse she had no idea how to contact my son (which is a bald lie of course) but had 3 possible email addys to try. Then, message from cruel
Carolyn Frazier Langston
that Warren W Langston had died; that there'd be no funeral, no service and no ashes.

My son was always treated this way by the 3rd wife and my ex. Despicable woman. They shut the door on him for the last time, which is what they did to him all of his life. He deserves so much better, it's insane. Too bad she can't be locked up for a lifetime of emotional child abuse.

Am I angry? Just a tad. The witch. Okay, I've ranted. Poof! Carolyn Frazier Langston -- I hope my son has a WONDERFUL LIFE that shows NO more evidence of your cruel ways. May he only have love and support from now on!

Released this devil here and now.
Peace, my friends.

Brenda, you always make the best of bad/sad situations. It 's so hard to go through the holidays when things aren't 'right.' Today is the 3rd anniversary of Dave's death. The week of Christmas is the hardest one for me...my birthday was the 26th and my anniversary would have been New Year's Eve. I was sad this morning but a friend unexpectedly brought me communion and the readings from Mass today were the ones said at my wedding. I cried, but felt better afterwards. I thnk I will face the new year with renewed purpose and be counting my blessings for the good things that have happened and be glad 2013 will soon be gone! I hope your turkey soup will be great...you always seem to find ways to stretch whatever you have to cook with!

I had a scare yesterday. I felt a 'blip' of sorts in my left chest and was very dizzy. I ended up calling 911 since the dizziness happened twice when I stood up. The Emt's said it was right to call because of the clots and I am fine. I know I need to eat more...I lost another couple of pounds in the last few days and need to keep my strength up now that I am home alone.

I know this determined group will have much success in many area during the coming year. Many blessings to all as we head towards 2014!

Happy Sunday Everyone,

I have not posted since Christmas Eve but have read all the posts. Been lurking the past few days because I guess I have been out of sorts with the holidays. I did join in with all the festivities here and helped with the Christmas Breakfast and baked the turkey and set up and helped serve dinner and clean up. We had a good crowd and good food but it was a very long day. I never ate any sweets and there were plenty available.

I have lost three pounds the past few days and that is good. Been working on it diligently. I took the sweater back that Sam bought me and got a blouse and pair of jeans instead and the difference only cost me $21. They have Petite sizes there. Size 10 fit me really good but I will still have to shorten them a couple inches. 10's start at 5 ft 4 and I am just over 5 ft. Anyway they gave me a rewards card and will be sending me sale flyers and coupons.

I am going to make a big pot of turkey soup from the carcass for New Years day. There is supposed to be a New Year's party at 8 downstairs but doubt many will go. Probably just the card and game players but they won't stay very late. If they do go down I will take some ham and cheese and rye bread down for them

We had a green Christmas with just a little rain and pretty mild temperatures. The northern part of Western WA had a dusting of snow and icy roads for a couple days just before Christmas but nothing here in the valley. I baked two batches of cookies and gave them all away.

Welcome new and returning members. The boards have been pretty quiet lately but everyone has been busy with festivities. For myself, I am glad Christmas is over, it is almost too much for me to endure the past few years but every year it gets a little easier.

Have a good day everyone.

After all the weight up and weight down times in my life I have sympathy for anyone anywhere along the continuum. I have found that being a part of this team has helped more than anything else but I just am grateful for each day that I am healthy.

Back home Yeah. Love my DD and DGS and I miss them but I like my own bed.

Hope you get a bit of rest today. I cannot sleep with anyone else ever. Between moving all over the bed, and having to sleep with a C pap hose and mask, it just doesn't work at all. Even my cat gets tired of me and gets off the bed! Hope you enjoy all of your activities, and having Jasmine with you.

MARY (teaching)

It seems as though you have had a lot of exercise. So glad you have been able to do it, and have some good times doing it as well. I know about the tired part too. Glad you are getting better every day.

So glad you have enjoyed your children, but I know it will be so nice to be home and on your own.

TEEJAY

I agree with LLADRED, one day at a time, and today is that day. In the last 3 years, I have had 3 major surgeries that have included much pain before and after. My weight has gone up several times quite a bit during that period. I really believe that even though I have not always been able to be on the thread, just the times that I have gotten here have helped me to not loose hope. Even if you are having difficulty, you can discuss it or not as you choose, but remember, there is no judgment here. We are all here to support each other, not criticize or degrade. I had originally lost 70 pounds, and now since my last surgery, I have lost all but the last 10 pounds. I would never have been able to do that on my own. I know In my heart, that without this thread and the other very small thread I am on I would weight about 400 pounds by now, and would be in a wheelchair at the least.

So, put away that bad feeling, and come and see us as often as you can. Guilt is the worst of the emotions that affect our weight, so try to talk yourself out if that. We are all human, we are all here because we need help, keep that in your head, and praise yourself for the things you are doing right in your life, don't dwell on the negatives. You can do this.

I am still asking for prayers for Wes, he is still very ill. Also, my cousin Laurie's husband Jim has been extremely ill with a body wide infection. They have now discovered a growth on his colon, that they think began the infection. I would appreciate if any of you have room on your prayer list for Jim as well. They are not sure yet what the growth is, or if it is cancer or not. Very scary.

Thanks for the prayers thus far.

I am walking better every day, still having pain on some days, but it is getting less. I am so grateful for the back, and knee surgeries, because I know I will be so much better now. I am taking all of that one day at a time as well.

God Bless you all my friends, and prayers for each of you to have a lovely 2014.

Bonnie

Scott and Jasmine are in the living room, Darshan in his room, me in the office with my robe still on. Sharing the queen bed with Jasmine is just not a good night's sleep for me so I think she'll try the couch and see if we both do well enough that way. I feel exhausted from sleeping so lightly, tossing and turning. I miss my king size mattress!!!

Walking is my priority today. I better pull myself together and get out of this house.
Dale

p.s. I posted a photo of Jasmine with me picking her up at her house yesterday. If you see my Facebook page, you will see it. I rarely ever post a picture...

Hi, friends. I came home to my own house on Thursday....my own birthday gift to myself! It was wonderful that my son and his wife let me stay with them when I got out of ICU but I was so ready for my own place again. My other son and his wife are getting ready to go back to Austin today and the house will be mine again. I have really enjoyed having them here these last 2 days.

The PT came within an hour of me getting home. She was happy that my house is 40 minutes closer in than my son's! She had me walk the cul-de-sac twice, go up and down the driveway and the front walk to see if I was steady enough on my feet. I have a little bicycle thing I have to do for 15 minutes each day as well as all my exercises. It wore me out! I have to weigh twice a day to make sure I'm not ballooning up any more than my poor leg has already...the swelling from the blood clots has made it several inches larger than the left leg but it's not getting any worse so far. I had gained 13 pounds in ICU in 5 days....horror of horrors! But now I'm back down to 152 and she was thrilled. My WW goal weight is 141 and once I can really exercise other than the slow PT walks and strengthening exercises I think it will be not too hard to get there. Oh, to be 'me' again!

We had a family portrait done yesterday and I had to walk through Dillard's at the mall through the underground parking, then across a main mall intersection to get to the studio...more walking than I've done in 2 months. Boy, was I tired! The kids took me to Cheesecake Factory for a belated birthday dinner and I ate from the Skinnilicious menu, being very satisfied. I wouldn't recommend the Broken Kneecap Diet to anyone, lol. But I'm glad to be on the losing end now.

Happy weekend to everyone.

Welcome back, Teejay51. I'm not much good at kicking ass, but I'd like to offer some encouragement. Starting is hard, and starting over is even harder, so start small. How about just a short SP workout video? Some are only 3 or 4 minutes long! I promised myself to do one every day, and I always feel better afterwards.

We're here for you...you CAN do it!
Here's to a happy and healthy New Year.

Happy New Year!

Sorry for not posting this year but I've been ashamed to even still be on this team. I have been GAINING weight instead of LOSING it. I just don't have the motivation anymore like I used to. Went to the dr and he said everything is fine (took blood test). Maybe it's the weather - cold & snowy. I know it's excuses but all I want to do is curl up on my couch and watch TV. ICK!!! My eating habits hasn't changed, thank goodness. But the scale is going up...I'm about real close to my original weight when I started Spark 6 yrs ago and you can say that is very depressing. I guess I need someone to just kick my ass really good and shake your finger at me (no, no...) emoticon

I'm hoping 2014 will be different for me and that I will be LOSING instead of gaining the weight. I hope you all have a healthy & happy new year. I've been reading your posts, and you're all doing MUCH BETTER than me. Way to go, team!

Good Morning Sparklers --- it will be warm today, ahead of the next two cold fronts coming our way.

Fiona, it is nice to have you back.

Dale, have you been to Fort McHenry? I went a dozen times --- I love the history there. The Star Spangled Banner was written just offshore. I do have a few ideas sprouting. We could post a favorite healthy food we've discovered or a wonderful new recipe we've found. We could also list something we no longer eat or drink since joining Spark.

My yoga teacher's husband is undergoing chemo and it's taking a toll on him --- please say a prayer for healing for Steve.

My hubby is doing well except he has gained a few more pounds. He has gone back to some of his unhealthy eating habits. It makes me crazy and he gets tired of me reminding him.

Hope everyone has a lovely day and a Happy New Year. Blessings, Sammi emoticon

Hi Dale,Thanks

Well Sunny that would have been a great time a month in March, perfect weather I imagine

Well I was up early before it got hot and dug over the vegie garden. I have tipped horse poo from the local stables over it (straw scrapings as well) and now planted out all my seedlings that were looking worse for wear.
Hopefully they will come away nicely.
Also some washing to catch the sunshine before we get some rain for a couple of days.
Hoping you are all keeping dry and warm over these days and even though it may seem dull and dark for you its a great time to fit in some floor exercises and just curl up with a good book

FIONA,
Glad to see you back here. It's like you never took a long break. Of course I realize you have different seasons from us. It seemed to help me to think in chunks of time that do match up with all our current posters here. No offense meant. LOL I want to name the next 3 months Wonderful Winter Chat (Jan Feb Mar). Would that be okay with you? We aren't necessarily crazy about winter (although I love the crisp air for walking myself).

BONNIE,
I Hate it when I lose a long post. Grrrrrrrrrr. But it's good to hear that your arm continues to improve and that you had such a good Christmas. I think we're all ready to tackle the season with renewed energy and good attitudes.

What are everyone's New Year's Eve and New Year's Day plan?

I know that to just be alone in gratitude is celebration enough!

It turns out that Maria and her husband Eugene, Mom and I are the only ones getting together for New Year's Eve. We're going to have dinner in a lovely seafood restaurant in our area, and then back at the house have Mom's traditional ice cream sundaes (she recalls enjoying with her best friend who died years ago). Maria and Eugene are so sweet. They decided that Mom and I are family to them and they want to honor a tradition of ours. Scott however, is not joining us. Different reason from last year.

Once we are done with that, if we drive down into Baltimore at the end of the evening to see the fireworks there it is possible to hook up with Nate and Mary, but they won't come out here that night. Scott will be in the Serenity Center all evening with the AA meetings crowd.

I'm trying to decide if I ought to invite Michael down from Long Island under the circumstances, and Sara (like last year)...

Driving down to pick up Jasmine in a few minutes (an hour away). I'm not waiting until her mother comes this way late tonight.

Lots to do!

love,
Dale

p.s.
I didn't hit send when I finished this. Oops. Jasmine was picked up and boy was the traffic just horrendous. Anyway, we were starving so I immediately heated leftovers. Today's weather was gorgeous but my walk wouldn't fit it. It's dark at 5:10 now but we'll do what we can anyway. Walking in the dark can be okay when not alone, plus Sara will come, too.

February tends to be our hottest but in the last few years even March especially during the day but a little cooler in the early hours of the morning. If there have been no rains in Feb/Mar by April its droughts and farmers (most of NZ outside the cities) really start worrying.

Winter where we live gets to -4 or 5 Celsius at night which is below 0 but we don't get snow here, just really heavy thick frosts some not even thawing completely during the day so it builds up over the next few days. The coldest time tends to August but the wet comes in July

We have lived here since 1985 (moved up from Wellington) and only had a light fall of snow twice. Where as where my parents live in Wellington can have snow fall around there place at least once every year

Fiona,

Now you have me curious. What month is the hottest "Down Under"? How cold does your winter get when we are having summer? You may have answered these questions before, so forgive my bad memory please!

I sent all of the food and goodies home with my friends from Christmas day, so I am with you, no junk around. It is helpful.

I know the feeling SB

Well I have woken to a day of dreariness and cold. It feels like a winter day so there you go.

But the day is supposed to b dry before the rains come. We actually need them as it had become so dry over the last few weeks and with the hottest part of summer still to come it will be good.

I plan to work out in the vegie garden and get in some belated plants. I have been so busy the last few months that nothing has been done around home.

I do plan to pop in daily so you will have the sunny news from down under emoticon

Fortunately I haven't gone to "town" with the home baking so there is not a lot of "left overs" that need using up, except one over large ham. (mental note to look or order a smaller one next year)

Hello for the day after I am feeling very sluggish and disorganized. Being away from home for a week is fun and seeing the grandson is fun but I will be glad to get back home. Having a quiet day.

Well, I was in the middle of a nice long post when instead of hitting the button to get back to the post from the thread, I hit the X and lost everything.

My arm and shoulder are doing better, but I can't retype everything.

I will have to suffice it to say that I generally keep you all in my prayers, and I think it is a good idea for us to do that for each other, so I will be more diligent now.

Thank you all for the payers for Wes. Have heard a bit from Debbie that his lungs are getting better, but they have him on a respirator, and anything else they can put him on to assist his body so all it has to do is fight the infection. He is very seriously ill, but they are seeing some hope, so your continued prayers would be appreciated.

I love the story about your sister and her baby and it all happening at 1:30. What a boost to our faith.

I had a lovely time at my mom's with my parents nieces and their spouses, along with Max, Brielle, Gracee and Ellee. It was so good to all be together.

On Christmas, my friend Amy, her children Natalie, and her fiancé Beau, and Zach and his kind of girlfriend Nicole came to my house. I had put the roast in the crock pot the night before, and my mom backed cookies that they all liked for me. Amy did mashed potatoes, corn and a lovely salad. She brought a bit of fudge and some peanut brittle. They were so good to do all of the work, and even brought my lazy boy chair into the dining room so I could play cards. Being at home made it so much nicer, because I was so much more comfortable and did not have to worry about driving home or getting into the house after.

I had a lovely time and feel so very blessed.

Prayers for all of you and for your loved ones, and God Bless.

Bonnie

So glad your holiday with family and others worked out so well for some of you. Happiness is under rated!

I just got my plans worked out yesterday morning for New Year's Eve. My friend MARIA called once she and husband EUGENE got to NY to say they decided to go to a seafood restaurant with us, meaning MOM and me, so that we can have lobster if we want but not stress MOM out with all the hosting activity in her place. Then we can come back for our ICECREAM SUNDAES.

If we want to just hang in the house after that, fine, or go together into Baltimore's Inner Harbor for fireworks (which I've never done), or to the Serenity Center, where SCOTT will be with his AA friends... we have options, and MOM is home early. Great!

I asked my cranky son to come but he really hates holidays and celebrations, poor guy, unless he has friends who include him with their activities. I haven't decided whether to offer MARY (his GF) an invite. They are stressing A LOT with cramped living quarters and the woes of his business demands.

Sleepless in the dark, I finally got out of bed this morning by 5:45a.m. Missing my crocheted blankets again and other disturbances in the air (within my mind. Ha!)

Watched the RETRO channel (old movies) and WALKED two times yesterday (morning and again afternoon around Wilde Lake). FELT GREAT.

Merry Day After - we are still packing, moving day tomorrow. But, for myself, I am going to the pool and swim my laps - Merry Christmas me!

Mary: Sounds like a political meet-up :-)

Fiona - so nice to see you again, love your cheery face, I missed the news down-under.

Where is everybody? Sleeping-in after a joyous day? See you tomorrow.

Fiona, you are so right. I am in several international dahlia groups and postings from people like Dr Keith Hammett in NZ and several in India, keep us going through our dreary season. Merry Christmas to you and enjoy the summer holidays.

We'll stick to months and omit the season next time.

No matter what the season is called, the holidays are the worst for eating temptation. Take a sample and leave the rest. And visit us again, please.

Yes, I look forward to holidays for just that reason. Marija, good for the soul is exactly how I'd put it. This afternoon, not only was everybody there, but they were actually all in a good mood. And only two were playing on their new kindle fires.

What's interesting about my family, is that they're so accepting. I told you that my sister married my brother in law's sister's ex husband. Well, Cyndie, the ex, has nowhere to go for holidays because there is no family left (except her brother, my other sister's husband), so she is alwas invited, but her new boyfriend was there too. And my sister's blind mother in law, and her divorced sister in law. We are a truly blended bunch.

Hi all, Hope you had a Merry Christmas. We just got back from DD's where she, her family, other DD, her family including in-laws were. The little ones were having such fun and were so happy. It was a joy. Holidays are good for the soul.

Brenda Glad that the next door neighbor was so nice. It was good you got some warm food while you are feeling under the weather. Don’t get too tired or the what-ever-you-have will just hang on.

Dahlia (aka Mary) it is nice to see you posting. This seems to have been a hard year for some people. I know that I have some close friends who are having serious health problems.

Dale how nice to have a plaque in memory of your father

Marija Do take care of yourself.

Bonnie I am so glad you are feeling well enough to post again.

Michelle hope all is well

Sammi I think that this is a time of year to be kind to everyone and support their holiday cheer. I still like Merry Christmas best.

LOVE2MOVEGAL South America!! You must have seen some really fun and beautiful places.

I am having a very quiet Christmas week although the DGS is noisy. We went to the park today and I have to jog with him. It is still amazing how fast a 22 month old boy can run. He loves to just take off and so I had to keep up with him. The SIL has pneumonia again and has been visiting the doctors. As long as he stays quiet, he should be ok. The DH did ok on the 7 hour drive but is feeling a bit weary today. So All of us are staying close to home. Tomorrow should be more of the same.

Everyone have a great Christmas Eve

Good Morning,

I just got a nice surprise. Mr, Pothead next door just came by and brought me lunch that he cooked himself. A Gorton's fish fillet, three big baked french fries and his home made tartar sauce. He called me early this morning asking how to find a locksmith because his caregiver locked her keys in her car. I called Sam because I knew she would have the number of the one who comes here. Well, he came right over and unlocked her car. I don't know how much it cost her but an expensive lesson for sure. I said to him "OMG, how did you know I was hungry?" He said, "because you don't have any shoes on". Such a nice jesture. I take back everything I said about him. LoL He's a funny guy. I told him I had been busy cutting bread cubes and toasting them in the oven for the stuffing.

Today I will make the Russian Tea Cakes that didn't get made for our Secret Santa party yesterday. I haven't been feeling all that good the past week. Some sort of sinus virus going around. Coughing sneezing blowing but no fever. I have been taking an antihistimine and it is working

Dale,
i so rarely check this thread, that I never even ave a thought to anyone else who could use prayers. I only saw the one asking for prayers for Wes.

I think there are a lot of us out here who could use prayers. I can, but haven't asked lately.
How about if today and tomorrow, we all pray for each other and for someone that each of us needs prayers for? That's a pretty good Christmas wish. I think we will all feel it.

Merry Christmas

Tue Dec 24 my father's birthday
142.0

My father had been born on 12/12/24 and died on 6/4/92. At Centennial Park we have a bench on the far side of our lake loop with a plaque for him. It's awfully cold today but I'm wondering if I can go there instead of around Wilde Lake just for today....

Thanks for holding my son in your prayers. It's a long term issue so there might be a never ending series of hurdles in his plan. Keep him safe.

And yes, I can keep WES in my prayers, too.

I better try to walk while the sun is still out. That wind is intimidating but I'll live. I think I'll even put a coat on Oliver, like it or not.

Dale

p.s. I chose to do a double walk around Wilde Lake! Cold and invigorating. emoticon

Dale - Please let us know the outcome for your son, we will keep high hopes that it is cleared up swiftly.
Wilde Lake sounds lovely. Heard that American Hustle is great, let me know.
I feel what you are saying about gaining weight after losing. It is a constant battle and with the move and all my diet is all out of kilter. I am glad I came back to you guys.
Bonnie - Glad to see you are up and doing. I found out the hard way (via bad back) how important good foot support is. Can I have a cookies?
Welcome Guy - Do you have a nick-name or do we say Craig?
Mary- After coming back to the group after a long hiatus, I don't know where to start or what to ask. What happened to your leg? So many scarfy happening at one time can really flip us upside down.
Brenda - Good company can brighten a day. Enjoy. See the lights after Christmas, they will still shine as bright.
Sunnygirl,- I had my homemade healthy muffin instead of a bagel. Thank you, it reminds me to feel good about little things.
I will definitely post tomorrow, and wish all good things, but for now, have a great day...

Bonnie, I will definitely say prayers for Wes. Prayers work. When my twin nephews were 6 weeks old, one of them got very sick and was in an oxygen tent for 2 weeks. My sister was preparing to lose him any day (and she had already lost twins born too early and a daughter on the way to the hospital when the cord wrapped around her neck).

So i had my friend send out a request and it went all over the country. Fran was a sweetheart who had prayer group friends all over. She sent me an email that at 1:30 everyone she knew was praying. That evening my sister called to say that at 1:30 Evan opened his eyes for the first time and smiled at her. And then started to get better. She didn't know anything about Fran or the prayers. But the time was right on. I miss that Fran. Some times i could use a conduit to heaven.

Thanks Dale, I like that.

I turned 64 years old on Sept 14. I used to be 5'7", but now am about 5'5 1/2". I really want that inch and 1/2 back! LOL

I was 5'7" in the 6th grade, and felt very awkward. Guess there is no pleasing me!

BRENDA

Hope you are feeling better and can enjoy your Christmas Eve and Christmas Day events.

SAMMI

Thank you so much, that was very nice of you to say to me!

MARY (Teaching)

Glad you are going to enjoy some time with one son, then get to go home on your birthday and be with the other son. I am sure your DIL will be a great help to you.

Prayers for your leg to heal faster!

Went to therapy this morning, and did well. I am not going to go tomorrow, and of course not on Christmas, but hope to have the energy to get there on Thurs and Friday

I am asking for prayers from any of you who might feel inclined to do so

One of my very closest friends Debbie, has a son named Wes who is in intensive care with pneumonia, and sepsis. He is 27 years old, and he is very seriously ill. Talked to Debbie this morning and she says his lungs are getting better, so that is some good news.

If you have the time, please send a little prayer for Wes, and the whole family.

God Bless my friends.

Love2movegal, how awesome is that, a wonderful trip and losing weight! Congrats!!

Dale, I'm one of those Merry Christmas types, although Happy Holidays is fine (really is Holy Day). I don't have any great ideas for maintenance, but I'll put my thinking cap on --- the difference between Spark and people who diet is when people stop dieting they gain their weight back because they go back to eating like they did before. With Spark you learn to eat better so you really don't change your habits because you've chosen your foods more wisely and enjoy what you eat and how you look and feel.

Mary, you sound good. Always nice to hear from you.

Bonnie, you are the person who inspired the saying, when the going gets tough, the tough get going!

Brenda, so glad you are surrounded by people you enjoy. Hope the pot luck goes fabulously.

Sunny, keep shining.

Just back from two weeks in South America, and woo hoo, I lost three pounds during our trip! Because we were on the go constantly, I had no opportunities to snack, and I actually think that was the key in spite of still eating three sit down meals each day. We also did quite a few outdoor activities in higher humidity than I'm used to, meaning I sweated more than normal.

I haven't been in the 120's for over two years now, and it feels absolutely great. I'm down almost 10 pounds from where I started, and I can really see the difference in the photos we took, compared to the photos from a trip we took earlier in the year.

I'm now only ten pounds away from my 'normal' weight of 118, and am feeling pretty optimistic that I'll get there by my 3/1/14 goal date.

Hi, friends! Once again, no Internet enough for Spark to load until now! I lost my whole post on another thread. When I am back at my own home I hope all techy devices will work again. Even my phone calls get dropped. Can you hear me now, lol??

A school family wants to come give me a Christmas card...they will be going back to Australia before I am back in school.

I will be at this son's house through Christmas Day, then I will go back to my own Ouse on my birthday, the 26th. My other son and his wife will be there for two more days so I will have a chance to get acclimated with someone there. My new daughter in law is a registered dietician so I know she sill help me restock the fridge and pantry with healthy foods. I have lost 22 pounds this year but with my surgery and my very swollen right leg/knee I have put on 13 pounds during last week's visit in ICU...not your typical holiday weight gain, for sure! I am doing my PT exercises and following what orders I have but am just eating whatever is available. I am actually looking forward to doing my own shopping and cooking again soon.

I hope those of you celebrating Christmas will have these last couple of days with a little rest. Here's to a lovely holiday for everyone!

BRENDA -
You've given me motivation to take early morning walks! Except that I don't live in an area where folks walk with money in their pockets. They get right into their cars or walk unencumbered by purses and such. Hmmnn.

And I think it would be grand to be the subject of all kinds of romantic gossip. You might even get a glow about you just at the idea that it certainly could be true if you wanted it. We don't have enough reasons to be playful about life.

SAMMI,
Are you on any particular maintenance team or maintenance thread? I'm thinking about what that might look like. Any ideas?

BONNIE,
Thanks for your thoughtful and inclusive holiday blessings. It feels so good when folks are aware that no everyone is doing things just the same. I never understood why some folks take offense at our use of the Happy Holidays greeting! It's not putting anyone down, it's being all inclusive. I shake my head in incomprehension.

It is great that you are down 26 lbs. As you move around more and more to burn calories, I'm looking forward to seeing you take it down further. How tall are you? How old are you? (of course you can ignore my inquiry) Will you want to pledge anything at all for the next three months? It can be as little as 3 lbs, just to keep the mindset strong.

My cousins' party last night was great.
The weather was so warm that we were able to also hang outside (around 70) and that meant we had a real reprieve from the cacophony of voices all talking. It wasn't exhausting like all other years. Yay for a really unseasonably warm day!!!

Because I weighed 141 all week I was able to treat myself to desserts last night. I don't think I have any other parties until maybe a New Years Day gathering where the food won't be as spectacular. (But you know Scott. He's got us eating out so much that I have to always watch calories each day. So far, so good!!!)

emoticon I'm TIRED today. Easy does it Sunday. Hugs, ya'all!

SAMMI,

I'm glad you bought the garden fairy and ballerina from the lady. I know it was hard for her to part with them but they went to a good home. I am gradually weeding out things and I like them to go to good homes. I bought a cute pin cushion from a young man and he asked me to promise that I would never sell it because it belonged to his mother. I still have it, and no, I will never sell it.

I'm trying to feel better because I have things to do and don't have time for this. Tomorrow is our Secret Santa party downstairs and I am making the main course and the rest is potluck. The police department gave us a four pound boneless ham that I will heat up and slice to make tiny sandwiches with the party rye bread. I bought a brick of Swiss cheese to slice. People will bring their favorite goodies. I am making Russian Tea Cakes too. Yum

Christmas day I am cooking the turkey for our dinner downstairs for those of us who have no family to visit. So it will be a busy few days.

Bonnie,

It's good to have you back in the saddle again and that you are feeling so much better. I miss your newsy posts everyday.

It's a gray, cold day but no rain so far. I need to go to Safeway sometime today and maybe go deliver Sam's present to her in her new place if she's going to be home. She is always going somewhere.

Have a good day everyone.

Brenda

Good Morning Sparklers, it is going to be a lovely day here. The next cool down starts on Tuesday and Wednesday will be cold. Going to try and fit as much in to today as I can.

Went to a small arts and crafts show yesterday inside the Mall --- walked around and purchased a few Christmas Decorations. I love to buy the clever designs that are made by local folks. One older lady had a small table with a garden fairy and a tiny ballerina. I asked if she had made them -- she said they had belonged to her daughter who had passed away this past year. I asked her what her daughter's name was and told her I would name the garden fairy after her daughter. She seemed pleased. The little ballerina has a tiny angelic face and there's just something special about her.

I did not buy any of the homemade goodies they had for sale. I even talked my husband out of having pizza for lunch. We went to a new little Seafood Restaurant in the Mall. They had lump meat crab cakes. Wow, it was wonderful.

Have a lovely day Spark Friends, Sammi emoticon

I too agree that weighing daily has always been good for me. It makes me realize that the scale will not always be consistent, and it makes it easier for me not to become upset if it goes up for no know reason, or get too excited if it goes down. Keeps me on a more even keel.

SAMMI

I think it bears remarking on that you have been at goal weight for quite a while now. Congratulation. I love that you do yoga, and keep yourself busy and well rounded and optimistic. Good for you.

DALE

You are doing great, as well as Brenda for losing and keeping it down.

I am at about 272, down about 26 pounds from before my two surgeries. I am just trying to take it one day at a time, and not obsess about food, or have guilt because I ate something I wanted, or a bit too much of something.

That is when I really get into trouble, (other than when I am having issues with pain and being unable to do anything) when I allow myself to feel guilty, or less than because of food, or self esteem or self confidence. For me, it is all about where my head is at. Trying to keep it in a very positive place. You all help a lot with that.

CRAIG

Welcome to our group. We would be so glad to get to know you better.

BRENDA

I am glad that you have found a friend, be it male or female, who is as healthy and active as you are to hang out with. I wish you lots of fun, and laughing at those wagging tongues!

MARY (Teaching)

So glad for the good news about your brother in law. Prayers for his continued recovery.

Also good to know that your knee is responding to therapy.

For me, it is a fine line to walk as far as doing enough physically, or doing too much. I talked to my Physical Therapist about it, and told him that when I don't feel as well after having a busy or active day, that the next day I kind of baby myself. He said that was a good idea, we must listen to our bodies.

My left knee, which was the worst of the two as far as pain was concerned, very bad, had the surgery on August 20th, while my right knee was able to rehab along with my left knee, (because of the pain pills), and was done on Oct 15th, is actually better than the left.

My surgeon says I am doing fine, everything is good and he is not worried about it, but I find myself a bit frustrated when it gets so stiff and sore. Aaron, my PT, says I am fine as well, so I guess I have to believe them both. Total knee replacement surgery is not for sissies, but I can imagine what I would weigh by now if I had not had them done. I would be way over three hundred again by now if I had not done the surgeries. Healing pain is much easier to deal with than constant pain that is so very debilitating and you know is not going to get any better.

I am so grateful that the technology for back and knee surgeries has improved so much, because without having had the back fusion, and the knee replacements, I would be in so much trouble. I would probably weigh 400 pounds and be in a wheelchair if not actually something worse.

Well, I have rambled on, and now my shoulder is getting sore, so I have to stop writing, even though I had more to say to others.

God Bless my friends and Merry Christmas to those of you who celebrate Christmas, and wishing time filled with love, family and joy to any others who have different believes and traditions. Actually, that is what I wish for all of you!
