MICHELE

Mary is my cousin, Aunt Betty's daughter. AB has been living with Mary and her daughter and her daughter's 2 children.

BRENDA

Before AB left on her vacation, Mary had told me that she went to her room to check on her, and her sugar was down to 51. I asked her what in the world was she doing to let that happen. She told me "I don't care if I live or die". At that point I told her she was going to have to come and live with me, but she said she couldn't leave her great grandchildren. At that point I let it go.

It is possible that she realizes this is what is going to happen, but she probably won't expect that we did it while she was gone.

I am so glad it is done, it would have been very difficult to do had she been here. Knowing her, she is just as likely to come home and be glad it is done and she has such a nice place to live, as she is to be upset. With her, it is a toss up.

She is my mom's sister, and we have decided that mom is going with me to the airport to pick her up, and be my support when we get to my house. Decided to just keep it simple stupid. Told Mary that she could bring the boys over to see her the next day.

I am sure it will all be good, and she will adjust, or if she chooses to be unhappy about it, she will just have to make herself happy again. Not my problem. She could no longer live where she was living, she was driving them all crazy, causing a lot of stress and tension. Hopefully she will be glad to not be in the street!

I will not allow her to upset me over it, and if she pushes me, I will have to tell her that Mary and family wanted her to leave. Going to try to avoid that, if she will let me.

Anyway, I have made my peace with it, and she will have to make hers. This was not really my choice, but I pretty much knew that one day she would be living with me, just waited for God to let me know when the time was right, and he did.

I am pretty self involved right now with all that is going on in my life, so please forgive me that I am not terribly supportive. Things will settle down, and I will be more able to focus.

God Bless and wishing you all a great week!

Sunnybeach,

We are still having summer but the leaves on the trees are starting to turn. Cooler at night, in the 40's. Weather this year has been very strange. With the hot weather lately farmer's crops are abundant and they are still selling raspberries and blackberries in the fruit stands.

Michele hope everything is safe.

Brenda it is sad about the continuing fires. We have been lucky so far here in Southern Calif. The ashes everywhere and the smoky smell are constant reminders of the problems people are having because of the fires. This seems to be one of the worst seasons up there. Hope that the winter is mild but not too dry. It is starting to look like Fall?

Good Morning Sparklers, had a guest for several days. Caught up on most of my reading and also on my fitness page. After several beautiful Fall like days, summer came back for a visit. I was really enjoying the Fall weather.

Still loving Yoga and feeling more flexible. Didn't make the gym this week, but two days yoga and two mornings walking, I feel good.

Fiona, hope your head is feeling better --- I did something similar a few years ago, but with my finger, ouch -

Michele, be safe

Fiona, did you get your milk? Any kind of body movement is better than nothing at all--aerobic or otherwise.

Bonnie, who is "mary"?

Brenda would love to see your jewlery pouches. how sad that one man actually died in the fires! I think you guys there have it tough, too!

The typhoon is on its way---there is heavy rain now. we are advised to stay home, don't go outside, so I'll just stay home & watch an old black & white movie on the youtube. I miss the Turner classic movie channel being over here. I love old movies!!! emoticon

Michelle, that's a good question and I don't know the answer except maybe several members have the same names and Spark suggests what to use for a sign-in. Maybe someone else knows.

Jody, downstairs, called me earlier and said to come see her to get some tomatoes and little round cucumbers out of her raised garden bed. There is nothing better than a tomato fresh out of the garden! She showed me beds that belong to others and said it is all right to cut the chives and take a few tomatoes off the vines. I have never done that because I didn't know it was permissible. I might sign up for my own next year. I could have had one this year but I didn't want to mess with it as I don't know a lot about gardening and haven't had much luck when I did try. But there are lots of people here to get advice from.

Bonnie, I hope it goes well when you tell your aunt that she is now living with you. What are you going to tell her as to why she was moved while she was gone. Did she want to move out?

The wildfires are still burning in Eastern WA and will probably burn until the snows fall. Foggy mornings are helping to clean the smoke out of the air. I haven't smelled the smoke for over a week now but still have my air purifier on 24/7. They have been letting people go back to their homes recently. Many were lost. One man died in his house because he refused to leave. Kind of like old Harry Truman when Mt. St. Helens blew her top. I remember the day vividly. The mountain was his home.

I'm making progress today. I actually cut the jacket apart that I am using to make the jewelry pouches. It is faux black velvet with silver lines running through. Not sure how many I will be able to get out of it. They will be about 3" x 2", maybe a little bigger. I will take pictures of them as well as the other things I am making. Then I have to figure out how to post them so don't hold your breath..

Wow, I read your post, and that had to be a very frightening experience. Can't believe that the police would not take a report. Glad you followed up. That should be reported to the others in your area for sure.

Glad you were not hurt too badly, so sorry it happened.

FIONA

Concussion? I so could have done exactly what you did. Hope you are feeling better by now. Take care of yourself!

Still working upstairs getting it all ready for my aunt. My cousins and I worked quite a bit yesterday, and got a lot done.

I think when Mary comes over tomorrow, we should have the last of it all done. She comes home on Monday!

Had a lovely day with a surprise birthday party for my friend's 80 year old aunt. I want to be her when I grow up, she can run circles around me!

IT was a beautiful day, and there was also a little festival in the town we were in. Walked around a bit, but not much good to buy

We have gone to this for the last 3 years, and I have been unable to walk around the other 2 times. So, this was another victory from my back surgery! YEAH!

Hope you are all well, kind of tired from my good day, so have to let the rest of the things I could say go for now.

Maci kind of picked up the slack, now when she is gone on her trip, I hope to be back more often.

MICHELE

Hope you are ok from the weather. Geez you guys have been hit so hard.

BRENDA

Glad the fires are getting better. You too have had it!

God Bless my friends

Enjoy your Sunday, those of you who have not already had it!

Hi bonnie L & welcome. I will have to keep you straight from our leader, Bonnie!
we have lots of great support here. My dream is to have a big lunch or coffee with everyone, one day!

Our typhoon hasn't hit yet. It willhit around noon sunday (probably early sat morning for all of you State-side) Just finished vacuuming & now my husband is going to fix one of the screens so we can open a window again.

Brenda, I love banana bread! I would love to see the pouches you are making. I don't keep a lot of furniture in my house as I like space, & here in Tokyo everything !!! is so small & cramped. I hate clutter, junk

Enjoy the weekend, all! emoticon emoticon One quick question for all---why doesn everyone's site have a number after thieir names? Is it necessary to use one?

Another Saturday has rolled around. It seems the older I get the faster the days go by. I very seldom bake anymore but there is usually some treat downstairs in the Community Room that someone has baked. Yesterday there was banana nut bread. Yum! Normally I leave the treats alone but that was calling my name. See, I didn't have any protein for breakfast so I was starving again.

Sandy, we used to go to Hood's Canal every summer and get clams and oysters right off the beach. Butter Clams are the best. Steam them open and dip in melted butter. The children loved them. The bigger clams were ground up and made into fritters. Oysters were steamed or fried or made into the chowder. Those were good times that my children still talk about those times and tell their children about them.

Michelle, I hope you weathered the typhoon with no damage. I can't imagine how scary that is! It doesn't matter that you don't get outside for your exercise for a day. I'm sure you have insided exercises that you do.

MACI, It's good memories for Brianna that you and your hubby made taking her to Disneyland. She will never forget it. Diverticulosis/Diverticulitis is where pockets form in the intestine and food gets caught in the pockets and cause a lot of pain from getting infected. Following a bland diet gets it under control and then avoiding all seeds and eating more fresh fruits and vegetables for the roughage to keep the colon clean. I have it and it can be very dangerous if not checked and lead to having a colostomy bag.

Fiona, I hope you are feeling much better since your accident. I slipped in water in the kitchen at work and hit my head on the metal table and was goofy for a couple weeks and couldn't do much of anything except to sit at the kitchen table and type letters to everyone I ever knew. I would try to do something and forget what it was and go sit at the typewriter again. This was in the mid-80's. A concussion is nothing to fool with.

I gave my loveseat away yesterday so now I have more room in my living room and bedroom. I brought the swing rocker from the bedroom to the living room. The loveseat bothered me and I had bad memories just about every time I looked at it. A young couple got it and are thrilled. So it worked out for the good. There's only a few things left from my years with my husband before he had the stroke and my life changed forever that day. The things that I am keeping don't cause me grief so I am good with keeping them.

Today I will make the jewelry pouches for Joice for the bazaar this next weekend (Friday and Saturday). I have most of my crocheting finished so I have a good supply to sell.

Have a great weekend. I have to get busy so will check in later today.

Fiona good that you are feeling better!

Maci, how was the HS game? I used to watch hockey games at college with friends. Not quite the same thing, but I did enjoy such things.

Sandy, your clambake sounds like something i would love to go to! I have never been to one.

There is a typhoon (hurricane) hovering around Japan right now, & is supposed to bring very heavy rain & wind by tomorrow night (sunday) We are advised to shut everything up, bring in plants, nail down things that might fly away....I probably won't be able to get in tomorrow's exercise!

I am gonig to McDonald's later today to get a free coffee. Can't wait. I love things that are free!

Enjoy the weekend, all!

Maci- Glad you had a great time at Disney.

Clambake was good. Always hard with clams. Sometimes chewy sometimes great. Usually go to 2 bakes in the fall. Chicken, corn and yams tasty. Of course there were appetizers and desserts. ANd wine. Tried to be good but oh well.
Had a white elephant raffle too. That was fun.

Had a good laugh today. One of my BF's lost her dog to Alzheimers earlier this yr and she vowed no more dogs. Her b-day is monday and her DH got her a new pup. 5 mos. old shizu( had to skip the t cause spark thought it was a bad word) Another good laugh. Anyway, she sent me a pic and named him Tucker.

Tomorrow babysitting our 2 month old grandson so mom and dad can have a night out. Looking forward to cuddle time.

No exercise today. DId cut the grass and clean a bit. SO did burn off some of that food from last night.

Have a great weekend all! emoticon

Hi Ladies, Oh It feels good to take the time to spark today, even though Hubs is working his tail off on the yards getting ready for our trip and Brianna is stuck to the TV w/her barbies, time for some Me time!

Brianna/Hubs and I had a great time at Disney, of course we choose a Weds because all the kids were in school and it is typically the slowest day of the wk, not this wk! All of L.A. and Orange county unified school dist were off! Some Jewish Holiday that they decided to use as a furlow day off. so Disney was packed, they even extended the park hrs and had to pay the disney emp. overtime and close down some rides to deal with the crowds. They didn't even know there it was gonna be such a big day. We got to use the handicapped entrances so it wasn't so bad, but oh I felt sorry for the other disneylanders! Hubs spoiled us both rotten, it was fun anyways.

I am back to playing tennis 5Xa wk which is really fun for me, nothing like working out hard while having a good time doing it. I have been fortunate to win all my league matches, 2 a wk for the last 2 wks. woohoo. Bad news is the my PT (phys ther.) thinks I may have to see the neurosurgeon about my bicept, it is not building up, only brking down, and she is really scared about nerve damage, it doesn't seem to effect my game to much though, and best of all it doesn't hurt, just runs out of steam fast. I am using other muscles around it to compensate. I am just happy to be playing, I am taking a wt with me on my cruise to do some arm curls with. The max I can curl is 3pds. I leave on Weds.

*Mari- what is diverficialitis? Hope you are ok for your trip! Have fun.
*Erie- How fun to see some diff ideas for your yard and get a free tree too? Where is your clambake? Details.
*Brenda- Crimestoppers good idea! I can't believe the police didn't put out an all pts bulletin!

*Mare- How wonderful you took a mini brk and are still losing w/sparks. woohoo., How awful that creep did that to you. I just hate mean people, I have to believe there is some type of justice for the AJ's (angry jerks) out there! in your case I might have to change my A to another word! teehee. HOpe your exam went well.

*Bonnie- hope you got some wonderful much needed sleep last night, if not I really enjoy a good long nap, consider that!
*Mich- Only you would even have to consider if you should exercise outside or not with a hurricane coming! teehee, you are amazing!

*Fiona- OK Fiona- the visual is abit funny, but ouch, sounds like a stinger. Hope you are feeling ok by now. Ouch!

Tonight is the HS football game, we are all going, we have a big cheering section for my nephew. He is such a little football star, he is always on the frount page of the local sports section (his pic and they write about him too) and being interviewed on the news about the games he is in. His name is Thai Cottrell #22 if you want to google him. He is only a junior, we all have big hopes for a football schlorship for him; We are all athletic in our family but he seems to be going the farthest with it. How exciting tonights gonna be!

Good morning everyone! Fiona - I can see that type of accident happening; we're all rushing about and then wham! A head injury. Please take it easy and continue to even as you start to feel better. Concussion effects can last a while and rebound if you try to move too fast.

My husband had to go to a clinic for an exam this morning so we didn't get up at our usual time (5:45). I find if I don't get up then and get out to the gym for 6:30, then I just don't want to go. So I am having that dilemma right now. I'm trying to justify it by saying that not only did I go to the gym yesterday, as usual, I walked about 5 miles total (fast!) between my walk back and forth to the bank (about a mile and a half), to the police station and back (about 2 miles) and then my usual evening walk with hubby (about 1 mile and a half).

So, I'm not ruling it out completely, but it's already 8:40 and I need to start my work day. I'm usually back and showered and hard at work by now.

I hope you all have a good Friday.

Yes Michele but its pretty changeable

I am home today with minor concussion. I hit my head on the Isuzu door when I opened it last night and tried getting into it at the same time and sort of open the door on to my head and moved my head towards it at the same time doubling the impact. A friend took me to the docs this morning and I am resting and Hubby is home to watch me.

Not much going on around here today then!!!

Bonnie, hope you got your rest.

M, I hope you are better, not injured. Good for you for at least trying to report it.

Maci, how was Disneyland with B?

Fiona, hope you are enjoying your weather.

I was abolutely lazy today & did not exercise, very unusual for me. There is a typhoon (hurricane) hovering around & I just didn't feel like going outside.

Well, from reading Brenda's post, I can see that Mareyeka has had a problem, but my eyes are too tired to go back and read right now. Hope you are doing ok, and I will try to catch up over the weekend.

Have been very busy, and not sleeping enough, hoping to get my sleeping habits back in line pretty soon.

Missed yesterday all together, so I just wanted to stop and say Good Night tonight.

Hope you are all well. God Bless my friends.

Wow. Mareyeka, Yes, you are lucky you didn't get hit in the eye. Too bad you didn't think to take a picture (if you had your phone with you) but I can understand not being able to think straight at the moment. I think the police should have taken your statement and description of the truck and the men at the very least. Call Crime Stoppers. Call the TV stations. It could have been a poison dart. What an ordeal!! I hope you don't get too big of a bruise.

ok, this time I'm really back. ;-)

I got out of the habit of visiting SP when I went to NYC two weeks ago. I'd think about it every so often, but then I didn't. But now I am.

Things have been ok here. I had gained back a few pounds in NYC but they're off again and I'm down to 153.8 pounds. Not bad since I started at 166 in mid June!

I'm still going to the gym every morning, still not liking it, but I'm doing it. I was very discouraged while in NY because I had a hard time doing the stairs coming out of the subway. I figured that with all the cardio I've been doing, the stairs shouldn't have been an issue. But, I was told by some fitness savvy people that I shouldn't be discouraged, that some of the fittest people get winded by stairs because they use a whole different set of muscles. Or maybe they were just trying to make me feel better!

I had an "incident" this morning. I was out to walk to the bank. As I was getting ready to cross the street at my corner, I waited for an oncoming small truck to pass. As it got near me, the driver slowed down as if he was going to turn down my street but then a young man in the back seat looked me straight in the eye, brought up a black tube to his mouth and blew something hard out of it that hit me right in the chest. The truck then took off.

I was too dumbstruck to think to take note of the license plate. I did look down on the street to see if I could find what hit me, but traffic was coming and I had to move. There is likely going to be a bruise where the object hit me and I'm thankful that he didn't aim any higher and get me in the face or eye.

Then, after going about my errands, I decided to report it to the police. Not because I expected them to catch the guys, but to make them aware that this was happening. I called the non emergency number and the woman who answered the phone was very helpful and when I asked if I should make a report, she said that it might not be a bad idea. So, I walked to our local station to do this. The officer laughed at me. She wouldn't take a report. She said if I don't have a license, then there's nothing they can do. I told her why I was reporting it and I had a very good description of the vehicle as it was unusual. Nope, not interested. Sigh.

I wrote a note to the editor of a local community paper and they are going to look into it. This could be a serious injury just waiting to happen to someone. I don't want to read about that in the paper and have someone say "wow, I wish someone would have told us there were these idiots driving around."

Anyway, that's it for me here in beautiful but very fall-like Montreal.

I hope you are all well. I see I have a lot of catching up to do!

Hi everyone! Humpday was just that. Had a great mornign with granddaughter at her preschool. It was Grandparents Day. Lots of laughter. Her teacher is around my age(63) and has 17 kids in the class ages 3 to 5. Good thing she has an assistant. They are a handful and she is so patient.

Missed the Y twice this week. Hope to get there tomorrow. Have a Landscape designer coming in the morning to discuss the yard. Won a consultation in a CHinese raffle over the summer. Also get a ornamental tree planted. Tht will be a good trick in my yard with all the wind off of the lake.

Looking forward to clambake tomorrow night and babysitting our grandson on Saturday night.
My days are always busy anymore. It is only 6:20 pm and I am ready for bed.

Maci- Have fun with Brianna at Disney. This is one trip she will never forget. Lots of pictures.

Will check in when I get a free minute. Have a great weekend if I don't get back. emoticon emoticon

Hey! Welcome! For some reason my computer blocks emoticons or there would have a cute one right here.

For sleep I have a relaxation CD - Dr. Emmett Miller and I play it when I can't sleep. It gets me outside my head because I listen to his soothing voice. Amazon has all kinds of tapes that you can preview. Try it, at least it's not another pill.

Me
I thought it was only 2 days but is it actually 4 since I posted. I missed you guys. I enjoyed reading all the posts but can't let it go so long. I need you to keep me honest in Spain!

I haven't weighed myself (Dr visits have done that for me) but I have pretty much stayed level. I was so knowcked for a loop by this Diverticulitis that I was not being careful, at a time when I should have been even more careful regarding what I eat. Miss my swimming, didn't realize how much of an attitude and physical changer it is

.Anyway, if I get a chance to post tomorrow before the trip I will and will pop in if I an while away. Bu, no news is good news and hopefully we will be having a great time. All of you have a good time, too. M

Hi Ladies i tried to read all the posts, I am just to damned impatient! What I do know is that I miss chatting with you all! Love the saying "Family gotta love em, can't kill em" I am surrounded. Love it most the time. sometimes they drive me nuts....

Mich, Rain, Sandi, Brenda, Bonnie, Fiona, sammi, Mari, Sunny, if i left anyone out sorry! big hellos to you all.
* tomm hubs and i are taking Brianna(5) to Disneyland, when you are in a wheelchair you get all kinds of special attn, esp cuts in line, were gonna have fun with that one, she is dressing up like a princess and we bought her all kinds of light up stuff, wand, bracelets, etc. She is so excited, yesterday they actually gave her a walking cast to use occasionally, she is healing fabulously.

*Yes, we are from So Calif so we get to play tennis, golf, etc almost everyday outside, I play on a tennis league #1 spot BB level. Love it. I am also captain, although I am sharing my captainship this season, thank goodness considering how much unforseen things have been in my present life, from my herniated neck disk, to briannas hospital stay, to my upcoming cruise, life as been so hectic. Thank goodness life through in another capt'n to share the work with.

* Trama- now that's an understatement. Esp with us, we are a family who "never" uses the dr office, I used to think why do you even need insurance, what a rip off, well this yr we have got our share of use! It's crazy. I am usually the picture of health and vitality. Oh well, things that don't kill ya make you stronger, and also a more compassionate person!

* Traction Machine- that hasn't arrived yet! is a machine that you lay down and it pulls your neck to relieve pressure on your spine. It is an awsome feeling, it feels like you just finished a yoga class of stretching.

*Anthonys sled sounds so cute! My DD Emily is getting ready to have her first baby and it is so fun looking at baby stuff again, I have already bought a stroller, crib set, and lots of clothes for her shower. I just can't wait. Her baby is going to be John Herbert Goldsworthy the Fifth! I am calling him Jon Jon already, she is 6 mos preggers.

I am so sorry girls being a leader of this team and all that I have been awol. Briannas situation just took me out of my reg routine with all the hospital time, and when home I just fell asleep anytime I stopped. plus league started too, life has been hard to catch up with, what I do know is that I miss my daily sparking with you ladies, I am leaving in 1 wk , 1 day for my cruise, so I will be gone again. I am counting on you all to keep active so I have my great team to come back to.

The house is quiet, everyone is fast asleep, and it's time for me to slow it down too, have a great weds all, I will be doing lots of walking around disney tomm , making Brianna feel like the princess she is. We are gonna spoil her rotten!

Welcome Polly! it's nice to meet you. I too, have been here about 4 years like Bonnie. This is a great group so post often. Sorry I brought up the chocolate cake and you got a craving........

Bonnie, I have used dryer sheets in the drawers for many years, living with smokers. In the 'old days' we always put sashet bags in the drawers to keep clothing smelling nice. Smoke permeates into the wood of the chests of drawers and it takes a while for the smell to go away. Wiping down the outsides with lemon oil helps a lot. You will notice how much dirt comes off the wood into the rags. Yuk!

The days are getting cooler and the air cleaner from the wildfires still burning in Eastern Washington (I'm in Western WA). Gas prices have gone down a few cents after going just over $4 a gallon. I'm glad to be retired and not having to buy gas all the time. I only fill my tank every four months or so because I am close to shopping malls.

POLLY

I am glad you are feeling welcome, someone made me welcome when I came too. I appreciated that.

I have been on this thread for almost 4 years now. It has been a place that helped me greatly. Good people here.

BRENDA

Have to tell you, I thank you again for such a good idea about the dryer sheets. Really think it is doing the trick.

Funny thing is that don't use dryer sheets myself, but when My SIL Gloria was here this summer, she left a whole box of them, so all I had to do was go to the basement.

Did not sleep well last night. My sleeping routine has been messed up for the last 4 weeks, every since I first became ill with the sinus virus. I can't get to sleep much earlier than 1:00am or ever 2 at the earliest. Just trying to relax about it now that I am feeling better, I can get back into a better routine again. Don't have to get up early since all 4 greats are in school all day. Don't go over until after school now.

Anyway, last night I was so aggravated. Got to sleep about 1:00am. but woke myself up about 5:30am because I knocked something off the mask for my C PAP. Guess I was trying to scratch my nose or something.

Then, couldn't figure out how to get it back on. Had to pull out an old mask to see how it went on. Finally got it fixed, and then had to read awhile to get back to sleep.

So, am hoping to get to sleep through the night tonight. Fingers crossed.

Oh, my, as I sometimes do, I have just rattled on. Done now!

Have a wonderful day tomorrow my friends. One day at a time.

Thanks all for your good thoughts and helpful information.

I don't have a lot of time right now to answer the posts, but I am going right downstairs and get the dryer sheets. Thanks BRENDA

I was trying to think of something to put in drawers and closets to absorb the smell.

YEAH!

We had rather cool weather here yesterday. But made the best of it and went on a 50 minute bike ride. I live in a rather hilly area of Pennsylvania. I wish I could find a flatter bike route, but it made for a good workout. Weather is warmer today so I'll probably be riding again this afternoon.

Bonnie - waiting to here how things go once your aunt moves in. I hope it goes well.

Happy Tuesday, Everyone!

Well, he**!!! I just wrote a long answer to everyone as best I could and my coworker accidentally closed it out while I was doing my patient! Shoot! I had a great post!!

Ok, I'll just give the basics....Maci love that your granddaughter is doing well
Bonnie, hang in there with your family...can't live with em, can't shoot em!
Michele, Applebee's is a restaurant chain that has some pretty supportive menu items. I love their petite sirloin.

Can't remember the rest.....

I did recover from my weekend sins and my weigh in showed a 1.5 pound loss. Great! Now it's on to my next short term goal of 165. IT WILL HAPPEN!!

Having a "sprinkle" for my daughter this Saturday. She is having our little Andrew Stephen in December and doesn't need a lot of things but baby essentials so it's not a shower, just a sprinkle. Good time for the girls to hang out! And my sis is gcoming from Virginia too! She's getting married on Oct 26 and I bought a dress to be her honor attendant. It is a size 10!!! What??!! I haven't worn a size 10 since puberty! LOL!! So...gotta stick with the plan,Stan!

Have a great day my friends!!

Chocolate cake for lunch every once in a while is a good thing.

Spending the week with my daughter taking care of my gson this week. Trying to figure out how to work in some exercise although taking care of an active 7 month old is exhausting. I take a nap every time he does. I have to be vigilant about eating well and not gaining weight while I am not at home. So many temptations in their house.

Brenda hope you enjoyed your choclate cake lunch! You are wise to set up plans for your funeral/creamation while YOU can still decide. Here in Japan everyone is cremated since there is such a l;ack of space. I don't want any wake/funeral businsess when I die. It just costs too much.

What is "Applebees"? I've never heard of it. It must be good.

Finished my a.m. swim. It was a hard one today, maybe b/c I was tired. Now to teach english conversation to my adult student.

Bonnie, how are you feeling? Better, I hope? Has your Aunt Betty settled in yet?

Today was a busy day with two meetings downstairs (monthly Council meeting and monthly birthday party) plus right in the middle of the Council meeting I had to meet with Jeff from a funeral home. I am buying some life insurance to pay for my creamation. Not planning on dying in the near future but thought I need/should to do it while I have the money or my children will have to pay for it. Basic Cremation is $895 so I paid for half today. I also won a $25 gift card to Applebees Restaurant because I signed up for information so now I have to decide who I want to take to lunch. Jeff's coming back tomorrow with my paper work and bringing me the card. Cool.

I hadn't planned on staying for the birthday party but I was sitting at the table talking to my neighbor and Jill brought me a plate of chocolate cake and ice cream so I ate it. It ended up being my lunch.

Bonnie, putting dryer sheets into clothing drawers also helps get rid of the cigarette smell. I don't know how anyone can afford to smoke these days as here in WA they are $10 a pack! $80 a carton! When I quit they were $2.20 a pack/$22 a carton. I was buying four cartons a month.

We must have been posting at the same time, so I missed yours until now.

Welcome to our group. Glad to have you.

I am going to give you a bit more info on how to get your weight loss tracker on your posts. Go to "edit" my Spark Page, and on the right hand side, there will be a place to put a profile picture. Just go to the pictures you have added, and pick one, then save your changes at the bottom.I am pretty sure that will allow you to get a profile pic.

Also, if you look on the page when it is on "edit", I think it will say something about adding a ticker, and then will show you what is available.

I hope that is helpful. It has been so long since I did these things, that I am not sure I am remembering correctly.

Anyone else have anything to add to help?

SANDY

I have heard just terrible things about TW cable. Glad you got away from them, and good luck with getting your addresses transferred. That would be me too!

Good you are feeling positive, and losing. YEA

SANDI

Glad you had a day to do what you wanted. It is always a good break to have a "ME" day.

Glad also that you enjoyed your concert! Did you hear Michele, we both want to be adopted to go with you to the fun stuff!

POLLY

Glad you are having sunny and warm. I would like a bit more warm, but won't complain too much as it is at least sunny. Have the whole house open!

NJ

Good to see you stopping by and know you are enjoying your walks. I have not been having a lot of time to get on line for a while now as I have a lot of "stuff" to do!

MICHELLE

Thanks for all of the positive input. I appreciate it.

You can see that I told Sandi to adopt both of us, don't think she is too keen on the idea! Guess she doesn't need two grown woman! That's ok Sandi, I will live through your fun stuff!

BRENDA

Good for you for being able to quit smoking. That is such a challenge. YEA you!

I have working again today to get stuff out of plastic bags, so I can throw those away. Then have all of the stuff out of them sitting around with windows open and ceiling fans all on. Also using my wonderful Febreeze.

God Bless my cousin, she washed Aunt Betty's stuff before she brought it over, not thinking about the smoke.

I would love to be able to wash everything here, but it is all upstairs, and that would mean two sets of stairs to carry stuff up and down. I just can't do that. So I will do what I can. It is helping.

Mary and Stephanie were going to come back today, but they both have the same sinus stuff I have had, and they are both pretty sick. Told them to stay home. It worked out well, as I would not have wanted to do that while they were here, don't want to hurt their feelings.

Anyway, I had a pretty good day. Ronnie came this morning and took down my screen house, and put the pool stuff and furniture into the garage.

Dennis was supposed to come over and do a couple of things for me, but he just didn't show up. He does that sometimes. Oh well, it will get done somehow.

Have a great evening my friends. Need to find something to eat!

Trying to catch up with all the posts. Been a busy weekend. Visted with most of my grandkids, cleaned, laundry, the usually weekend stuf. COuple volleyball games too.

After a wild weather weekend (rain, hail, wind, even a waterspout) yard needs some work. Put out my fake pumpkins and scarecrows this morning. Also went to Y, got my flu shot and am now washing throw rugs since sun is out to dry them outdoors. Always something to do. We decided to get away from cable tv and go to a dish and then go back to our phone service for the internet. Feel Time warner was gouging us( $175 mo.) and we can get cheaper going a different way. Saved $75 by doing that. Only problem is changing my email. Hving problem importing my addresses from roadrunner. May have to input by hand if DH's IT guy can't explain to me so that I understand. Not an IT person at all.

Oops, late have to go pick a kid up from school soon and need to change loads in washer.
DId lose that lb last week so I am pumped to keep up the workouts.

HAve a great monday all! emoticon emoticon

Today is the only day all week that I have nothing on my schedule. Slept late and will finish my housework early so I can get on the treadmill early, too. Missed the season opener of Survivor but I recorded it on my DVR so I hope to have time before hubby gets home to watch it.

Bnnie & Sammi, you are both an inspiration to me----you always have such positive things to say that make me feel better! Bonnie, after you are "adopted", will you adopt me?!!

I'm glad you got the smoking situation worked out---how I hate smoking. My oldest son smokes & it makes me really anxious & sad when I think about it.

Brenda good for you for quitting smoking. Four years! Wow! You, too, are an inspiration to me. You seem so strong. How good that you can finally open your windows.

Sandi how was your concert? Love the Duprees!

It was pouring rain all day yesterday, but loved our "liquid sunshine" (thank you Sammi)
Now it is cooler today,. Went to the pool. Now to work & teach english conversation to my japanese adult students.

I too, love this group. I wish we could allget together & have a big luncheon sometime!

Blessings!

Bonnie, It's good to hear you got everything moved to your place. Living with smokers like she was makes for a lot of work as far as wiping down all the furniture, airing out and depending on where she hung her clothes, washing all of them. Smoke permeates everything. I know because both me and my husband were smokers and I was constantly washing clothes and wiping things down. Even after he had his stroke and moved to assisted living and my things were in storage for two years, I could still smell the smoke on everything when I moved things to my last apartment. I quit smoking four years ago, maybe longer as I don't remember the exact date. I just quit one day.

Getting your aunt out of the smoking house will be so much better for her and I'm sure she will be happier with you. I just hope she won't be too upset initially. Sending prayers for you to get through this transition.

We've had a nice weekend, cooler and not so smokey. At least I can open my bedroom window tonight and get some fresh air in here. The air purifier helps a lot and am glad I was able to find one. I'm busily crocheting doll dress potholders. Tomorrow I will start working on making the insulating liners for the water bottle holders.

I hope everyone had a good weekend. I have read all the posts but too busy to post individually right now. The bazaar will be here before I know it and I have a lot to finish.

Glad you are enjoying your weather now. I know when I was loving the heat, you were freezing. Right now, it is a bit chilly, but I can handle that. It is the freezing rain, snow, cold bad roads, and lack of sun that kills me in January and Feb. Those are my worst months.

Good to know that you will be loving your weather, and I can think of you then!

Had the windows open today even though it was a bit chilly. My cousin and kids moved all of Aunt Betty's stuff in. Between the time they brought the first load, and went back for the second, I went back upstairs.

They are ALL 3 smokers. She was living with them. Aunt Betty's stuff was smelling so smoky! YUCK.

Opening the windows helped a lot. They are coming back over tomorrow and we are going to put up pictures, organize a few things and make it really nice for her. She has a picture that her brother, my Uncle Larry, painted that is going to look beautiful in the room she will be in. I also have a painting from him that is precious to me.

My mom painted too. Uncle Larry taught her, and she enjoyed it. He died on Sept 13, 2001, yes, 2 days after 911. It was a very tough birthday for me that year.

But, about my mom, she can no longer bear to paint after Uncle Larry died. I do have about 4 great pictures that she painted before she quit, so that is good.

I do feel much better now that her stuff is here. It is really going to look nice, and they were all pleased with the place I have for her.

After we are all done upstairs, I am going up there loaded for bear with the Febreeze!

SUNNY

Thank you so much for your kind words. I love my cousin, but I do have to be with her for short periods of time. I have a lot of first cousins, as my mom, Aunt Betty were from a family of 8 kids. Can't even count the second and third and fourths, etc. Love them all anyway.

But, I have worked too hard to allow tany of hem to deprive me of my hard won gains in my self attitude.

SAMMI

You are right, you are all my gift from God. I love having this place and you all to come to. We really are good for each other!

Getting tired now, so guess I will stop writing. I do feel much better now that all of my aunt's things are here. After we do the rest tomorrow, I am going to buy her a new bedspread and see if there is anything else she needs once we are done.

God Bless my friends

Bonnie

Good Morning Sparklers, it is a cool morning. Loving it. Will warm up later to near 90. Love Fall.

Bonnie, good for you. I used to get in dark moods when I was young. Soon realized if you surrounded yourself with good people life was much better. I call the other type of people dark clouds and I do my best to avoid them. They take your good energy and don't give anything back. We have a wonderful group of good people and we share our good days and bad days. It is good to be among such a great group of good people!

Have a wonderful day Sparklers. Blessings, Sammi emoticon

Bonnie you are a wonder, dealing with the stress of your aunt and having your relatives adding to the difficult situation. Do keep up the positive feeling about yourself and know that there are those of us with you.

I want to come and live with you. You are always doing stuff I want to do. How about adopting me? Have fun.

I am very tired tonight. Slept well for a couple of nights, but last night was a real bust.

About 3 hours sleep.

Had lunch with my mom, Aunt Nancy, several cousins, etc there were 9 of us.

Of course, we were all talking about Aunt Betty moving in with me. Everyone thinks it is for the best, but since I was not able to tell her before she went on vacation, I am nervous about it.

My cousin's children, Aunt Betty's grandchildren are moving her stuff in tomorrow. I think I will be better, once things are in and we can get things sorted and settled for her.

My cousin Barb, drive me crazy sometimes. She is always very negative about everything. I had told her before not to bring up stuff that might happen, or I might have to deal with etc when Aunt Betty moves in. She tried to do that a couple of weeks ago, and I told her to stop. So, today while we were all together, she HAD to tell me just one more thing!

ARGGGH. Family, gotta love 'em, can't kill 'em.

I have explained to her that I am working to take this "one day at a time", but she just can't let it go. I know why she is so depressed and miserable. I am NOT going to be like her. I have fought too hard to make the progress I have made in the last 5 years, I am not going back.

I remember when I thought losing weight was all about "dieting". I have learned so much, and made so many changes, that I have to hold firm.

I could have lost and gained a couple hundred pounds in the last five years if I had kept on the way I did in the past. In my new life, I am happy that I am almost back to having 60 pounds total loss.

Ok, I guess I am done with that.

Everything is tougher when you are tired.

Wishing you all a lovely Sunday. God Bless my friends.

Bonnie

Thanks all for your good wishes. it is trying between diet and lack of exercise. One step forward, 2 steps back.

Sandi What is a padded sled, I would love one for my GC's?

Sunny, Somehow recovery from grand babysitting is miraculous.

Congrats for the good things - your GD and winning the league match. Sending you a traction machine? What is that? Have a fab time on your cruise, nothing like it after traumatic events.

I was telling my DH about your wildfires and do you know where the news is? In the weather section. As if your troubles don't matter to Easterners! Knowing you made this personal.

Have a great day...M

Good Morning Sparklers, have not been sparkin this last week. Read back through a few days of posts. Just been busy and preoccupied.

Trying to decide which things to do on which days --- last week didn't flow very well. Monday walking, Tuesday yoga, Wednesday gym, Thursday bad attitude day, Friday Yoga. Should have walked Thursday, but wasn't in a good mood. Got on the scale this morning --- lost one of the two pounds on my newest goal. Most wonderful.

Today will be errands. I do hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. Blessings Spark Friends. Sammi emoticon
