That 5 pounds must just hover in space just waiting to return. My weight is the same this september as last, with a 8 lb rise and fall in between. This year I am determined that the numbers will be different in December and will stay down through 2013!!!

I do not know how to begin a new thread myself.

Hopefully, we can get one of the others to begin it.

Just checking in quickly to say I am beginning to feel some better.

MICHELE

I have not heard any news today. On Thursday, Natalie told me that Lothar might be able to go home on Friday, but not sure if he did or not. Am just waiting for one of the kids, or Amy to be able to call me. I don't like to add to their burden by calling them. So, hopefully tonight someone will give me a call. The old saying is, "no news is good news", so I guess it is. If something terrible had happened, someone would have called.

I am feeling some better. Hoping to be better again tomorrow. Friends here from Chicago, and if I am better than today, I want to go to a party to see them.

Have a good weekend my friends.

Laurie, I agree with you--I have been losing the same 5 lbs over & over. Never seem to get anywhere.

Sandi How was the concert? I would love to hear them!

Sammi, Iam going to try to find that book online. Love to read. you sound well.

We are having some deseprately needed rain here. It is only 85 today---a nice break ffom the high 90's we've been having. I am going to do housework today (sunday) since I won't have to sweat so much!

Hi everyone!
We need a new Goals & Resolutions thread too. I'd start one myself, but it needs to be a sticky. The Goals & Resolutions thread has been so helpful to me. I've progressed from 15 minutes a day to about 50 minutes a day of exercise, and I lost 3 pounds last month. Thanks!

Well, I hope someone can change the message board to September. I have no clue.

August was the driest month on record here in Western Washington. As of yesterday we had 40 days and 40 nights of no measurable rains. The record is 51 days in 1951 and we will probably break that record, according to the weather people. Last year we had 40 days and 40 nights of rain. What a difference in the weather changes.

This will be a quiet weekend, no plans except for our normal Sunday Potluck tomorrow. I will probably go so I need to figure out what kind of salad to make. Many take desserts and not too many healthy dishes so I don't normally go. It's hard enough to take off a pound without all the temptations.

Good Morning Sparklers --- Happy Labor Day Weekend --- I'm reading another good book . It's called Many Lives, Many Masters -- extremely interesting food for thought. I read a few of the posts. Hope everyone is feeling better and enjoying the extra day off.

The more I go to Yoga class the more I like it. I find I feel better afterwards and it is helping me keep my blood pressure down. It seems to have a mind of it's own somedays -- for no reason it will just take off --- both my parents had high blood pressure and the doctors tell me I inherited it.
I am careful about what I eat. I don't like the idea that it is out of my control, but maybe it really is. Will keep trying.

Enjoy the weekend - Blessings, Sammi

Suzanne, good for you that you have kids who actually want to learn. In all of my years of teaching English conversation, I too, have had kids with issures. Kids who just didn't want to learn. What a waste of my time. I have a good few kids now. I am happy about it.

Fiona, happy anniversary. Did youplan anything real special?

Bonnie, again, I hope you are feeling better. Find yourself a new ENT dr. How are your friends, the one with the end stage cancer & his kids? I keep you in my daily prayers.

We have been having rain off & on all day today. It has made the high humidity worse.
can't wait for Monday---I get to return to my swimming.

Have a nice weekend, all!

I am looking forward to tomorrow -- working out in the morning, doing catch up errands and then.... DD is coming home for an evening of hanging out and wine tasting in Frederick, MD with me followed by shopping at Arundel Mills on Sunday. I will probably not get to see her again until Christmas.

Michele

I am in heaven with my classes this semester -- wonderful kids who want to work and learn. Not an issue in the bunch so far. Wahoo!!!

Bonnie

Take care. That's awful that the ENT dr was a jerk. You go for help and get more pain. :-(
Please take care of yourself.

Fiona

Happy anniversary!!! Sounds like a wonderful time.

I hope your friend is able to move into your complex, or at finds another place that suits her needs.

If you go to the top of the page, two over from the reply button, it says "subscribe to this thread"

I think if you check that, you can always get back to the thread, and you will get emails that tell you when anyone posts.

The other thing that I do, is go to the "recent posts" on the side of the scroll down screen, and it will give you the last time you posted, and the thread.

Also, since this thread moves to a new thread monthly, usually whomever starts the new thread will put the link on the last of the old thread.

Boy, hope I got that all right, way too much thinking for my poor sick head!

if I am wrong, someone help Sandi, I did my best.

I glanced through the posts, and I want to thank you all for your continued support.

I am pretty sick, so just staying home and down. Getting stiff and sore from sitting/lying around, but gotta do what I gotta do!

I am prepared for the fact that I can't travel to Cleveland for the funeral, and that I cannot go and see Lothar in the hospital until I am well, and I know that can take at least a week. Hoping for less, but am resigned to do what I gotta do!

Hope this finds the rest of you well.

God Bless

Fiona, it's a store that sells organic produce and specially bred meats and poultry and gluten-frre products among lots of other things. It's kind of a high-end health food store. Kinda similar to Trader Joe's. Check em out on google. They both can be a little pricey too.

HI, Michele, Dee, Brenda, Marija and Sandi thanks for the good wishes.

Michele maybe she needs a gap year. Either going and doing something for a charity here or overseas or just coming home and working somewhere that is just a shop or something to just not have pressure and let her think bout what she misses of=r sees as a new direction.

Dee being in New Zealand what exactly is a "whole foods"?

Brenda still love to hear your news

Marija I seemed to have been like that too. With DS 21st two weekends ago and then being away for our anniversary and Ministry School I have gained two kilos!! back to get it sorted.

Sandi cute grandson!!

Hubby and I are going to do lots of work in the gardens today so that will be a change in exercise and muscle groups. Its the first day of spring here and the rain has kept away for most of the week so the ground isn't boggy.

When you're immune system is compromised by too much stress, illness hits harder. Please take care of yourself, otherwise you can't help others.
The doctor who really helped me was a pulmonologist and at least things are undeer control now. It was really weird because although I swim, etc, I thought my shallow breathing was from sinus. And it was, partly, the other part was my bronchial tubes were really messed up.

Fiona
Congratulations on your anniversary, and many more.

Michelle
When our daughteers went to college, we told them it was usual not to know what their future goals were and that a good university would allow them to experiment and "find" themselves. It paid off.

Feeling weak re my managing weight and gained the pound I lost. Disappointed. It is clear I celebrated a little too much. I am so tired of losing the same pounds. This was a break-through pound and I need to keep it off. Going to try to get the loss back. Will check in tomorrow .... have a good day everyone. Marija

Happy Friday,

Boy, this is the last day of August, Fall will be here soon and I can feel it in the air. Some of the leaves are starting to turn in the forest behind our building, nights are much cooler, better for sleeping.

Yesterday I took a box of VHS movies to my friend, Elinore, and brought her back here to fill out an application for an apartment here. She is number 15 out of 24 people on the list. She lives where I used to and doesn't make much more than I do and rent has gone up again and she is a nervous wreck. She stayed and visited with residents who were playing cards in the community room. Our manager sent her home with a crochet project that she doesn't know how to do and no one here wants to tackle. She will pay her to finish it. On the way back to her place we stopped at the bank so she could make a payment and then I took her home. She agrees that she could live here. It is quite a downer from where she is because these apartments are only 550 sq ft and we have no dishwasher or washer and dryers in our apartments. But this is a matter of survival. It was very hard for me when I had to move here but I have settled in and it is nice to be able to have money to buy things I need instead of doing without. Elinore has been dealing with her aching legs and right foot and went to the doctor and they want to do more tests. The co-pays are killing her. She is 85. She couldn't wear her shoes. One of the residents there gave her a pair of sandles she can wear when she goes out. Her family helps her some but they have their own money problems. So I hope she can move in here in the next few months where I can help her. She does have her car but gets so upset that she can't even drive to the store. I told her all she has to do is call me and I will take her where she needs to go, as long as it is local. We have a bus that takes residents shopping and on outings so this is better.

Michelle, I would not want to be 20 again and am sorry to hear your daughter is struggling. I hope she finds what path she wants to take soon. You at least are there to help her with good choices.

Fiona, emoticon 34 years and counting. emoticon I'm glad you had a good weekend and the days are getting longer. Ours are getting shorter and weather cooler.

Bonnie, good to hear your fever has broken and you are on your way to recovery. Get as much rest as you can and don't forget to drink your water to stay hydrated.

Lots of people are on the roads heading out of town as of yesterday. There wasn't much traffic around town, they were all on the freeway. After I dropped Elinore off I stopped at the produce store for fresh salad fixings and fruit so I am stocked for the weekend.

Well, I made it back. I am at work this morning so can't "talk" long. I don't have a patient for a little while.
Mareyeka, Isn't it hard to see your children struggling? I have such a tendency to try and get in there and fix it for them. I go to a counselor who tells me to just be the listener and advise when asked and rely on the fact that I did a good job raising them and giving them good skills. Wow...that sounded profound! But that is hard advice to take sometimes. But you know, it all works out somehow.

Suzanne, Yeah, I'm with you as far as having one more email...SparkCoach is a good tool and has a little more going for it than having direct access to a coach, but right now it doesn't seem necessary for me . Wow! Half marathon in October! That's awesome!

Michelle, glad you had some time to spend with your daughter. She'll find her way...college is a stepping stone to that path and she's got the luxury of time to decide. I'll bet when she stops worrying too much about it, she'll have it at her fingertips! She's ahead of the game already by having a great supportive Mom in her corner!

Bonnie, stress and feeling down can lower your resistance to those nasty germs out there and hit you like a ton of bricks! Be good to yourself and get plenty of rest. Easy to say, but it really works! I'll be thinking of you!

Fiona, congrats on your anniversary! Sounds like you've got a plan to get right back in the game! You go girl!

Ok, so my patient came and now I'm free til 1pm! There's a Whole Foods down the street and I can hear it calling my name.....Dee...come visit! So, here I go! Talk to you all later!

Dearest Bonnie, so glad you are feeling better. rest & continue to get better.

I had an outing with my daughter--she is nearly 20 & "lost"; although she is in college, she really doesn't know what direction she wants to pursue in life. it is making her really depressed.I don't know how to help her except to just support her.

Hello all.

I have had a very busy but good week.

Over the weekend hubby and I went away for the weekend for our 34th Wedding anniversary and ate out but also went for a couple of good walks. Then this week I have been away at a ministry school and although the food was good and healthy we did a lot of sitting around for sessions etc so not a lot of exercise. Catching up this weekend though as the sun is starting to shine and the days are getting longer.

Thanks to all of you for lifting me up.

The fever broke last night, and I am somewhat better. Won't be exercising any time soon, but some better.

Marejka

I have always had terrible sinus infections, and then they become bronchitis, and I am very ill for at least two weeks.

Two years ago, I was so sick most of the winter that it was terrible. They did a cat scan of my sinuses, I had been sick for almost two months, and the nurse told me "Girl, you have a mess up there". I say the scan, and all you could see was white stuff.

I went to an ENT, and he was a jerk, but he did prescribe an antibiotic that will keep me form getting bronchitis. I am sure that this is a virus, but I always get a bacterial infection after if I don't take this antibiotic. It is called Avelox 400 mgs.

I have not had to take it since last Sept, and then it cost me $40.00. Today it was $93.45. There is no generic for it, but it is the only one that has ever given me help.

Hope things slow down and get better for your children, and I am sure this is all very stressful for you as well. Prayers for all of you.

Thanks so much to all of you for all of your support.

It is funny, last year was the first year that I did not have a sinus infection since I can remember. When I took the drugs in Sept, I was not really very sick, but did not want to risk being sick for my surgery date on Oct 3.

I felt as though my immune system was better able to keep me well, because I was no longer in the pain I had been in for so long with my back.

I truly believe that pain, stress, depression, etc can make it very easy to get sick, think it messes with the immune system

I am sure that is why I am so sick now.

Enough pity party, I guess I will go watch a bit of tv.

God Bless

Bonnie

Suzanne, you sound well. Good luck with your teaching this year.

Maryeka, a "tone chime" is a kind of bell, I guess. it looks like an organ pipe---long, gray. Each "pipe" makes a musical note, just like the keys of a piano. By each of us playing these "pipes" we can play a song. We played a Mickey Mouse song at the June recital. Tone chimes are relatively a new kind of musical instrument. Your question is not ignorant.

Today, Friday, I have only 1 student. Then perhaps my daughter & I will go out for a bike ride or something else.

Bonnie, you continue to be in my prayers.

Hi there --

got home from work and got a quick, light bite so it has time to settle prior to jazz workout. So far a good day, just busy!

Maci -- The story you shared was truly tragic. I had to read it several times, just to take all of it in -- simply tragic.... I am glad to hear your therapist is giving such positive feedback. It is so hard to slow down enough to listen to what our bodies are trying to tell us. Fortunately, those (like the therapists) are there to help! You sound so much better. Enjoy Arizona!

Dee -- Thanks for the feedback. So the coach is an email contact? Hmmm, got enough of that to do already.

Michele -- I wish I had the time to sew right now. Learning a new curriculum and establishing my course website is keeping me fetchin' and steppin' - but I am determined to keep my personal fitness as a priority. One of these years I will not be learning a new curriculum and will have more time. HaHa!

Bonnie -- Please take care of yourself!

Marijke -- Things will work out and you will have clients/work to keep you afloat. Keep pluggin' along.

I need to get changed for Jazzercise. I had a good run yesterday by using my polar watch to make sure I wasn't 'slacking' (slowing down too much). I am working to be ready for that 1/2 marathon in October; even if I have to race walk part of it.

gtg.... later,

Suzanne

Hello everyone,

We're still in the midst of some stress here. My oldest son, the one who broke up with his fiancee, is still not 100% decided on his next step, but he has to be out of the apartment by the end of the weekend. My daughter is moving to a city two hours away, on Sunday. I'm ok with the move, but it's stressful when someone is packing up their life. Youngest son will be 21 in a few weeks, so we're focusing on what he wants to do for his birthday.

Work is still not great. I do have one good client who keeps me afloat, but most of my projects for other clients have finished up and I've not been able to replace them.

This coming weekend, I will be finishing up a quilt that I was supposed to give to my sister in June and I need to start a quick baby quilt for a friend's daughter. The shower is on the 8th. I better get a move on!

Welcome Dee. I used to lose track of the conversations until I read the very good (and obvious!) solution of opening a second window. Works great. ;-)

Michelle, excuse the ignorant question, but what is tone chime?

Maci - what a tragic story, but things like this happen all the time, unfortunately. When I was still working as an RN, my last job was in palliative care. Working around people who you know are dying is very interesting and very rewarding. It does make you appreciate what you have.

Bonnie, please be careful! As a nurse, I've seen infections go too bad too fast. Also, Sepsis Alliance (www.sepsisalliance.org) is one of my clients. I wrote their information and do their outreach. Sepsis is the body's over-reaction to an infection. Please get this treated even if you have to go to an urgent care rather than your own doctor. I have had many sinus infections, they're horrible, but they can be very serious.

That's it here from Montreal.

Just glanced through the posts, thanks to ll of you for your love and thoughts and prayers.

I am now very sick with a sinus infection. Last night had fever, chills, etc. Was shaking so badly just couldn't stop.

Thinking that part of it is the illness, and part of it is the emotion and stress.

Now, however, because I am so sick, I cannot go to the funeral on Sat, and cannot go to see Lothar today, or tomorrow, when he wanted me to come and see him.

I think my body, just gets sick when there is too much going on for me. The kids have colds, and the adults as well, but I have to get really sick! Trying to get my dr to call in a script for an antibiotic. He was not in yesterday, and won't be in today until this afternoon. Not sure when he will have time to call it in.

Not feeling well enough to write much more, so will just say have a good day my friends.

Bonnie

Ok I wasn't quite done yet!!! teehee. I have to write to you all before i go, the last few days I have been on the run! You have no idea how nice that is to say, since I spent soooo much time stuck on the couch this summer.

Today I swam in a pool! not just waded, not just moved but acually swam! It was tough. I did about 10 min and thought my arms were gonna fall off! than did a walk around the block w/Brianna,took teddybear OMG teddy decided to stop right in the middle of the road and .poo! Ewww. I was horrified, what to do? Didn't hve anything to clean it up! and yuck! but believe in karma and just can't leave that kind of stuff! so I knocked on someones door and had to borrow a bag. I know TMI! what is funny about this story is that I don't do things like that, my hubs always does anything gross for me! So I was a gaggin! Now teddy is only 8 pds so some would think come on, it's like the size of almond roca! All the while I am trying to make a good impression to my 5 yr old gdaughter. oh life is full of surprises!

Did the most fun thing , bought 20 gifts at the 99c store and put them all in lil bags and decorated w/ribbons for our RR tennis party, they turned out great! we made up 20 Q's to hand them out! Things like Person w/ oldest car? Longest marriage? most gkids? etc. This is how we are gonna do our raffle, doesn't that sound fun?

All of you I really suggest you go see "The odd life of Timothy Green" the previews are all disney, don't be scared, but the movie is a very moving drama, a feel good movie!

*Sandi- Your home sounds fab! Yeah for AC!
*Mare- Jackhammers suck! (CA lingo) Grt idea using earplugs! The kids grow up so fast!
*Brenda- Great you found the can holders at walmart. I was watching the issac storm watch too, I thought Oh no not again!

*Suz- You are amazing girl still Jazzercising with all that new stuff on your plate. YOu rock! Thanks for sharing your gmas story. My mom was married and had me when she was 16. All the gmas in our fam were married at 14. WE do it young in our family! marriage and babies girls!! teehee.

*Bonnie- Life is really hittin ya girl, you are the strength to lots of others right now, take care of yourself too!
*Shielda- Hi! Havent' met ya yet. Welcome!
*Mich- Oh so happy to hear your back to your music, I know the passion you have for it!

*MS-I take notes! I read from my last posting on and take notes the whole way, I write down each person and put alittle tidbit to each one. I use extra pcs of paper that you would normally throw away and fold them in 4ths and rip them into note size pcs, use the back. It's recycling and free! I keep a lil box of them by my computer. I fill one lil pc each time I post. Tracking is the key for me! Mostly because I have a tendancy to give up/give in/ binge big time when I think i've already blown it, lots of time i stop after a lil eating frenzy and post 95% of the time i never did as much damage as expected and still have cals left fora lite dinner! This stops the insanity in it's tracks! i always tell others when they are saying they got in the cookies etc, go post now! they always tell me, wow, I was still ok! or just a bit over!

*Mari- My Phys Theripast says my back is just a minor symptom of overdoing, the real prob I see is my strength in my right side, it's just not my arm, I am forgetting to pick up my feet and tripping more on that side, etc. Abit unusual. everythings just abit harder. She says my neck is still abit pinched or I would have full motion by now, but at least the pain is gone! Halleluh!
The kids exhaust me too! Just enjoy them the housework will be there tomm when they leave! Remember the scale is just a #! It' a # to watch but it always flexuates, I say we should all just stay w/i a range, and make that range move lower and lower w/time! Right now i am in the 155-150 range. Lowest was 152.8. Hoping to hit the 150-145 range in the near future!

Off to Ariz to burn my booty off! Thank goodness for AC! Wish me luck! today was a really hot day, and I was at a pool and the ladys pool we were at was in the shade fanning herself and saying "OMG it's so hot! I couldn't believe it is 79 today!" Remember we in Oside melt after 80 degrees! It's to funny! We are amazing in sports until it hits 80 than we can't move!
I do have to say None of us have AC in our homes, they arn't made with them, so we do have abit of an excuse!

Maci wo how was your pool time? I will start back to my swimming next Monday; can't wait. there was no "free" swimming over the summer months. What a tragic story you told all of us. we all have something hard in our lives, don't we?

Suzanne are you sewing or making anything right now?

Dee I also take care of my husband's father who has dementia. My 2 older boys, 25 & 23 live with grandpa & help to take care of him when they are home from work/school. It is a lot of work. I am nurse, maid, cleaner..... My husband's mother died almost 3 years ago this coming up x-mas day. She was bedridden with diabetes & 1 leg amputated. That was even harder. I know what you are going through & I sympathsize

Piano & tone chimes went well today. The hardest part was bike riding to my teacher's house, 40 minutes in 95 heat uphill one way. I was soaked by the time I got there, & then she uses the a.c. so I was chilled unitl I left at noon.

Have a good Thursday, everyone!

Thanks to you all for the warm welcome!
I've got my 2 little windows open and ready to write! Brenda, thanks for sharing your story with me. Good for you for keeping yourself going up and down those stairs and keeping the hands busy with your talent! Not to mention planning ahead by bringing an apple to a potluck!! Atta girl!

Michelle, it is great to have people with lots in common with you being around when you need them! This seems like a great group!

Suzanne, I still am on the fence about upgrading to that. I have liked the fact that everything is free here and the only thing I can see with the coach is that you can email a coach directly. I think I've got this down.......now with you guys, I'm gonna probably pass..

Maci, I "jemmed" today for "yesterday". I'll jump on later tonight. I'd like to throw my hat in the ring for the Christmas challenge! I'll do that later too. Right now I get to go with the hubby to see his pitbull of a mother at the nursing home. Big long ugly story hooked with that......another for later.

BeBack soon!!!

Hi ladies I have less than 10 min until it's time to go again, and pick up my gdaugter Brianna from Kgarden, today we are going to a pool swimming w/a diving board, she "loves" jumping off it. so cute! We are meeting her friends who are 4 yr old identical twins there, Annie my t/friend is their Aunt. fun. Oh I feel so tired and drained today. I went for a walk around the block yesterday and I think it wore me out! teehee.

I scheduled myself to play in our RR/Round robin as a sub position, so I can step in and step out of play, it's not very competive. It's the 7th, than I am playing that wk as a fit in for the rest of my matches that wk. My friends will let me play in and out when I can and want to. Thats a really good way to come back, no pressure. Until then I am only walking. My Phys Theripist said that's good for me, and I can get back to hitting slowly too!

I can't believe about the young man dying, that is so tragic. Its always so sad when a youngone dies w/o warning.

Heres a true story: My ex's bro, was celebrating his 28th bday , w/friends at a park, he drove this motorcycle there, his wife came later with the kids. Son 4, daugh 2. When it was time to leave as they were rounding the corner to leave the parking lot, He decided to turn around and wave to his wife and kids, hit a rock , fell, and she ran him over, died instantly, all his friends were watching and his son and wife were waving at him. it was a big story in the papers. The familys all fell apart with this tradgedy, it was so sad.

Every story of ones we love is tragic, young or old.

Time to get the swimsuits ready, hope you are all having a good day! I have had abit to many cals this morn so have to stick to fruit for snacks the rest of the day, I am sure i will pull out the day w/i cals though, yesterday did great, life is good. Will post tonight!

Welcome Dee! Glad your back, in the military we call us retreads! I'm one too! We know where to come back to , to achieve our goals girl! glad you found us! Join the christmas challenge and Jem with me, I always love a new Jemmin friend! Thanks for posting on the sept challenge, I think I will post it tomm, i will be gone the 1st!

Bonnie -- You have my deepest condolences. What a terrible thing... I do not know what to say.

Brenda -- I look forward to seeing the pics of your bottle holder!

Marija -- Running after your gson is probably the happiest exercise you could do!! Enjoy!

Dee -- Welcome!! I have been seeing that coach thing when I log in. How long is the trial period? What exactly do they do? I am hesitant to put out money for an online coach and wonder what this would do beyond the free stuff here.

Michele -- Nice to hear you are back on your piano, I envy those with that talent and the perseverance to practice. My Gma died shortly after she fell and broke her hip. She was in her late 70's and I was 20. She grew up very poor and on the "wrong side of the tracks." She had to drop out in the 3rd grade to help support the family. She taught me to sew, and later to tailor. Amazing woman.

bonnie, I'm so sorry for your loss! I have been keeping you in my daily prayers & Rosary.

Dee welcome! we are like one big family here. We share a lot & there is no judging. Gosh, the things I have shared with others.... I would have gone crazy by now & if I didn't have all of you!

I'm bike riding to my piano & tone chime lesson after a 2 month hiatus. There were no lessons over the summer months. I look forward to it.

Brenda, your place sounds like something I would like to live in when I'm older. I too, would bring just an apple or such to a dinner. Good for you!

Maryeka, how was your walk?

Suzanne, glad to hear you are ok. Osteo. is tough. How does your gma do? Please keep me up to date with your runs--since I can't do it anymore, I might as welll dream though someone else's experiences! LOL

Dee, Opening another window was told to me by someone else so we keep passing on the information. I crochet everyday, all day long, making things to sell. I do take frequent breaks and walk around, go down and up the stairs (I live on the 3rd floor) several times a day. Crocheting helps me keep my sanity since I found myself alone six years ago when my husband had a massive stroke and is living in an assisted care home. I live in low income senior apartments in a tiny one bedroom. It is very affordable, safe and only 39 units. Most here are much older than me and they only like to sit and play cards and eat or go to the Casino's. I don't do any of their activities and don't go to their potlucks. They are used to me taking a apple to a food event and only eating that.

Great idea, Brenda.......both, the opening another window and the cool water bottle bags!!

I envy the fact that you can do a craft like that and enter it in a bazaar. A friend of mine does counted cross-stitch. Wha?? I could never sit still that long! It's all I can do to visit the computer!!

I will definitely use that idea next time I come to chat!

I'm glad I joined too!

Hi Dee,

I'm glad you joined us. This is a huge team but I think most are gone for the weekend or else hunkered down from the storms in the coastal areas. If you open another window for the message board, you can flip back and forth to read the posts as you go. I can never remember names to go with the messages either, especially if they have a name that I can't remember.

We're having sunshine and a little breeze here on the Westcoast and I'm sitting here crocheting water bottle bags to sell at our Fall Bazaar. They fit across the body. My own pattern that I copied from my friend's water bottle bag. Mine is similar, not a copy and it took me a couple days to figure out exactly what I was doing. Got it down pat now. Am making insulated liners too.

Have a good weekend.

Hello team!

I'm new to this chat thread and want to start by telling Bonnie how so sorry I am for this profound loss and that my thoughts are with you.

Gotta say that I am not very good at this chat thing because I have a tendency to forget people when I post. So that is my disclaimer...... emoticon

I have been with Spark for 6 years now off and on and every time I come back I wonder why I left. But, I have been sitting on these last 20 pounds for 2 months now and cannot seem to get myself in gear. You all seem so positive and it just seems like the right place to be.

I track everyday and have joined SparkCoach for the trial and might have to upgrade when the trial period is over. Pretty basic, but it's got good info all the same.

Exercise is fitness dvds and my beloved Wii Zumba2! I get on an elliptical and stationary bike too whenever.

I introduced myself on the "intro" thread and my sparkpage is up to date!

Thanks for letting me hang out here!

Hello everyone.
Bonnie, I'm so sorry for what happened. It's not a trite cliche when we say that life can change in an instant.

It's a cool, cool day here today. Very different from the hot muggy weather we just had. Hard to adjust when the change is that fast.

The jackhammering only lasted a day this time! Grateful for small miracles.

We took our daughter out for a goodbye dinner last night. That was nice. It's a BBQ chicken place, so I ate what I shouldn't, but I knew I was going to, so I don't feel badly about it. Just eating extra well today, that's all.

Ok, I think I'll take a break from work and go for a walk. Have a good Wednesday everyone.

My sympathy to you and your family. No words. You have so much grieve to bear.

Brenda
Thanks, My daughters are certainly dear (most of the time) but we just don't use that expression when speaking of them and it certainly is easier writing DD than daughter. I will use that from now on. Other abreviations noted as well. I am with Michelle, divorced came to mind as the first D.

Maci
You are too cavelier with your back problem, it can get serious. Thanks for spelling out your family tree, its good to just have a sense of it. And I see you all are around and love each other.

Sandi
Beautiful baby. We are here babysitting for our grandson today and tomorrow, all day. Yester day afternoon we do pcik-up for our other 2 GC and they stay for dinner. SOOO tired. We ain't as young as we used to be, or maybe it's just me because I have a lot of friends who babysit for working kids and seem fine. We were going to do it for our older D but she said no, just be available.

I am away for 2 days and so much information to absorb. The good think I can say is that walking my grandson for an hour this morning and running after him will probably help me undo some the of damage. I know also that I have to rethink when and how often I weigh myself and it is not so much the weight or loss as being aware and knowing how much better I feel when I manage it.

So, have a good day everyone...Marija

Suzanne,

I do have a digital camera so I will see if I can figure out how to post some pictures of my crocheted items after I get a few of the bottle holders finished. Don't hold your breath. LoL

October is going to get here fast and I have a lot of crocheting to do in the meantime. Our bazaar is tentatively the first weekend in October. I missed our monthly council meeting yesterday because I went shopping with Jody. Oh well, the newsletter will be out soon letting me know what went on.

I never work out but I do walk as much as I can and eat very healthy foods. I live on the 3rd floor so I use the stairs most of the time. My left ankle was hurting for a few weeks but it has healed now. No idea what I did to it. SP say that walking up and down stairs for 11 minutes burns 100 calories so I use the stairs at every opportunity.

I've been watching Issac's progress on the news. Getting intense now and the winds are getting stronger. I just hope people in the way stay safe. I remember watching the flooding on TV in New Orleans in '05. This isn't supposed to be as bad. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Bonnie, I am so sorry all these things are happening in your family/friends circle. We will continue sending prayers to you and everyone. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I kind of feel as though I have been sucker punched today.

My cousin's 27 year old son was killed this morning riding his bike.

Not really doing so well right now.

Thanks for the prayers and thought for my friends and me, guess I could use some more.

Hi there --

I am getting a quick, light bite after work before scooting off to Jazzercise for my workout. It is going to be a difficult struggle, but I am really trying to work at NOT bringing my teaching work home at night; or at least limit it to an hour. It is going to be hard to do, especially when the labs come due to evaluate. I get in a bit early and stay after every day for about an hour and a half -- this is just to make certain the labs are set up for the next day. There is just not enough time in the day to plan, prepare, and to evaluate. Okay, done griping....

Having back issues can be such a game changer. Thankfully, you are able to do more as time continues onward. The results for my DEXA scan came in today and they were normal, although it said "decreased in the spine." I am going to have to research this a bit. My GMA on my mom's side had really bad osteoporosis.

Sandi

Handy hubbys are wonderful!!! Mine has saved us so much money by doing home repairs and various sweat equity projects.

Maci

We all swerve off the track once in a while -- glad you are back on!

Mareyeka --

Yuck! The sounds from a jackhammer travel so well and it seems they go on forever! I wish you luck in finding a peaceful spot somewhere!

Brenda

You are so creative! Your bottle holders sound like they are coming along nicely. Would you be able to post a picture of them on your page?

That's all for now. I need to clean up my mess from my dinner and get ready for my workout.

Later!

It's another sunny day but not too hot. Yesterday morning I took my water bottle holders down to our Take and Brag Monday morning coffee to show what I am making for our bazaar. Jody, who loaned me her bottle cover to figure out the pattern, asked if I'd found the insulated can holders yet. I hadn't looked for them. The can holders fit inside the bottle holders I am crocheting. We decided we would go to Walmart and around to find them after she got back from her dentist appointment. We started at the Dollar Store but only found one, very shoddily made, then to Michael's Craft Store but they were out, then to Walmart, finally found some in the outdoor section for .94 but at checkout they cost $1. I didn't find out until I came home and checked the receipt. Not a big deal but I find that happens quite often at Walmart. I only bought one because I wanted to go check out KMart. They didn't have any. We did a lot of walking around. Jody was looking for a new blouse but only found weird ones for young people. We were both exhausted when we came home. It was a fun afternoon and I had never really talked to her one on one. We will go again sometime. I am really picky who I take with me plus they can't have a walker because I don't want to put them in and out of my car. Too heavy. If they can't fasten the seat belt, they don't ride with me either.

Upon looking at the can holder, I can make them easily out of the insulbright fabric I bought for potholders and they will be washable. I found some pretty cotton yarn at Michael's and Walmart for the bottle holders. I have a lot on hand but when I find different colors and varigated yarns, I buy a few so I have a good variety for my projects.

Our monthly birthday party is a noon but I will take my own lunch. They are having KFC chicken, corn on the cob and coleslaw, lemon/orange sherbert and probably a cake. I don't like KFC and can't eat corn but I will go and be social. They are used to me not eating what they are having. They are fat with lots of health problems, I am not.

I've read all the posts and it sounds like you all are doing well and keeping busy. I have some dishes in the sink calling my name so I'd best get busy and so a little housework this morning. No dishwasher here.

Good morning everyone. There's not much to report here from Montreal today. Another warm day. Workers are working on balconies on the building beside me, right outside my window. Wouldn't be so bad if they weren't using jackhammers.

We went through this a few weeks ago when they were working on something else. I may have to leave the house and find some place else to work. The sound goes through all closed windows and doors; earphones and earplugs don't even work.

The AC guys are back today. We have a two story house with a 3 room apartment upstairs we keep for the kids when they want to visit. My home is all on the main floor. Last week they finished the apartment and this week they will complete my part of the house. Can't wait to take out that noisy window unit. Hubby is also putting in a humidifying system.

It's raining this morning so it wouldn't have been a good beach day anyway. Guess I'll stay home and catch up on chores (even ironing which is my pet peeve).

Sunnybeach you sound well. Hope you had a nice visit with gbaby.

Sandi, are you like me over here-- no a.c.? We haven't been able to use ours very much b/c of last year's earhtquake. I don't even remember what it feels like to feel "normal" or cool anymore--95 at least with 80% humidity or so.

Just spent the weekend with my DD (an only child), SIL and new gbaby. I have been reading the posts about watching your children go through difficult times and it is really hard to watch. They have to and will make their own decisions but I would like it if life was happy all the time for them. I remember back to being their age and how some problems seemed so difficult but also that time helped. What is fun is being invited to also share in fun parts of their life and doing those kid things again.

Maryeka nice to hear all is well your way.

Suzanne, I used to be a runner until these slipped disks in my back---had to stop all kinds of strenous exercise, including all the wt lifting i was doing. I am back to wt lifting now, but only on the upper parts of my body & lots of walking & swimming...
Love to hear about your running adventures!

Off to do my housework. We have so much dust with all the windows open.

Have a nice day tomorrow everyone!

Hi all!

We had a great weekend with family and now it is back to reality! I am focusing on my fitness this year. My veggies are roasting on the grill right now! It is still hot and muggy outside so my plan is to eat an early and light dinner before running. I would do a Jazzercise class tonight, but I have decided to run the baltimore 1/2 marathon and really need to do speed and distance runs.

Dmattison --

What a great combo for you -- Best of luck to you this year!! I taught 8th grade science for 12 years before making the move to high school. Although I treasured my middle school students, I love high school and would not want to go back.

Mareyeka

So sorry for your son, my son's heart was broken by his girlfriend of many years (he is also 6+ feet tall and is 25). He lives in Colorado Springs, CO and called me the morning after the break up. He sounded so sad... I just wanted to crawl through the phone and give him a huge hug. She is moving to Spokane, Wash. in a week. Maybe the distance between them will make it easier.

Bonnie --

I used a gazelle years back. Loved it!!!
I am so sorry to hear about your friends health concerns. He is is my thoughts and prayers.

Maci --

It is so hard when life throws you set-backs. My dad always said it builds characters and "what doesn't kill you makes you stronger." (Haha, there is a new song that has that line). With set-backs wee learn to persevere and we learn humility. With each set-back, I think, dang .... haven't I learned enough already! Lol

I want to see the "timothy" movie -- It sounds so moving. I am glad you liked the hope springs movie. I have not heard any good reviews about it but I cannot believe a meryl streep an tommy lee jones movie would be bad!

Oh yeah -- thanks for the 411 on your family!
Also, did not know that about the reverse with the weight and Christmas Challenge. Good to know about the *

Michele -

I cannot even imagine the pain you revisit when you have reminders of your baby. emoticon

Here's to a break in your heat wave!

Marija --

I understand your frustration over 'sticking' points. I will be on one for MONTHS on end, then suddenly it will drop. Then, I need to wait for another long stretch. I focus on eating nutrient dense food and working out. The rest will come!

Sandi --

Hi girl! Welcome back -- and VERY cute pic of grandson!!!

Well, I have taken care of my dinner. Working on getting Hubby's together. He is eating better, but still wants to have way too much red meat. He is eating some veggies now. Baby steps! He has been eating a lot better lately, and I am thrilled that he will be doing this year's turkey trot with me!!

gtg -- laundry to fold, then a run to be had! (Gotta get those endorphins to be ready for work tomorrow!)

I am still asking for prayers for my friend's (Amy) kids, Natalie and Zachary, and their father, Lothar, who is gravely ill.

The kids are at the hospital this morning trying to get info from Dr's, etc. Not an easy job as anyone who has had someone this ill in their life. I guess the big question right now is if the cancer has spread to his lymph nodes.

Natalie called me last night after leaving the hospital, she just wanted to talk to me. We talked and cried together. It is so hard to see her and her brother in so much pain, and it is painful for Amy and me too. Although they are divorced, he is still the father of her children. As for me, when they first met, the three of us were inseparable. Even after they had the children, it was the five of us doing thing together so much.

Every time he sees me, he tells me he loves me, and I know it is true, I love him too. We have a lot of history together in spite of their being divorced.

Natalie told me that his girlfriend had her sister talk to Natalie about having Amy and me come to the hospital to see him. It is something I really want to do, as soon as things are stabilized a bit, but it is going to be so difficult.

Please pray to give us all the strength to get through this ordeal. I don't feel as though he has too long left, but we should all know a bit more after the kids talk to the Dr's today.

I am having a very hard time. Please lift us all up.

God Bless.

Bonnie

Hi everybody. Just checking in after not writing for a while. I just got too busy to spend much time earning points, so I mostly just logged food and exercise. I will have Mondays off for a while so I have a day to schedule dr appointments etc.

Today is finally Monday. All last week I was a day ahead of myself, totally confused but now I have the days straight. Don't know what was going on with that. Old age is all I can think of.

This morning I am back to my beginning weight for the Christmas Challenge. I gained when I got sick the beginning of the month and drank a lot of water and was craving salty foods. I am back on track now, eating more fresh fruits, less bread. I quit tracking the calories because the tracker takes too much time and I do just as well without it because I don't agonize over the calories. If I just eat healthy, I do better. Back into my size 10 pants and a steady half inch thinner all over. I've had the 10's for over two years when a lady cleaned out her closet and gave me her small sizes. I knew they would fit eventually. Mostly cute summer pant/top outfits. My last jean purchase were 10's. When they start to get tight, that is when I cut back and it works for me.

I weigh myself first thing every morning so I can keep track easier. That way the weight won't creep up and stay and be a big surprise at the next weigh in. We have to do what works for us.

Weather is changing and getting cooler nights. It actually rained late yesterday afternoon and it was foggy when I got up this morning. Fall is in the air. I can smell it so I will get busy with my winter shopping list soon and stock up in case we get snowed in. Living halfway up a steep hill, we have to plan for whatever happens.

MACI, You need to listen to Bonnie's advice and slow down and give your body a chance to heal. You don't want to fool with your back. Gaining weight will just exacerbate your problem so ditch the ice cream and reach for raw fruits and veggies. You can get just as much sweetness from a peach as you can from the ice cream. Plus if you eat too many peaches you will get more exercise running back and forth to the bathroom. emoticon
emoticon

It's our Monday Morning Take and Brag coffee down in the Community Room so I'm taking the water bottle holders I have been crocheting all weekend. They fit across the body. I'm going to sell them at our Fall Bazaar along with the doll dress potholders and dishcloths I make.

Have a good day everyone.

I don't know why I lost the link to this team but I am back. This weekend was my birthday - I had a houseful of company and my best friend threw me a marvelous birthday party. Nothing better than family and friends to celebrate.

Hubby and I are in the middle of renovating and redecorating the house. We are putting in central AC, replacing all of the carpeting, refinishing the dining room hardwood floor, and painting. Sometimes I think we'll never get back to normal again. In the long run it will be worth it.

Changed my profile picture to show off my grandson Anthony. My son and DIL are both teachers - so I start babysitting 2 days a week on Thurs. Can't wait.

*Mich- Sorry to hear about your baby losses. I know it must be hard to see things that remind you of them. When i was a teen I was date-raped, (not so unusual being from LA area) and for yrs I was so angry when i saw anything about things like that. It's amazing how things that are close to us come out when we see reminders. Today I love things that remind me of my lil bro.

* Mari- I noticed the word Exhaustion came up in your post. I to am having a tough wk. And being overly tired has been a big issue for me, maybe there is something there for both of us to look at. I love what Bonnie said , she is so true, the scale does fluxuate like that I did what she has been doing one time for 2 wks (w/i daily) and It was all over the place, I agree, don't put to much energy into it.

*Bonnie- Thanks about reminding us about the scale flux. In the christmas challenge this is why I don't go backwards! I don't subtract pds gained. We are on the road to feeling great and doing the best we can. I know that i am not at my lowest, but I am gonna strive to be that again. My next w/i I will be one of the Christmas challengers w/a * by my name, but I am keeping my 4 pd wt loss because I deserved it, I earned it and will earn it again before the challenge is over and more! I am not giving up just because i stumbled, If we didn't stumble we wouldn't have to spark in the first place! Sorry about your friend and her kids, Oh, and i like your smiling face pic too!

*Brenda- Thanks for sending the Abv. too! I remember when I first had them expained , they feel really comfortable now. When I started sparking I only knew LOL. (laugh out loud) I am over 50 I didn't grow up texting! teehee.

*Mare- You are so smart to change focus! Sometimes the scale or measurements just don't seem to change even when you are spot on! No worries I know that if you keep doing what is right to do, those things come! I had a month that i had no change, I was under 1500 each day and working out like crazy, than poof! -4. There are alot of sparkers out there who the scale never changes but go down sizes, lots of them are on this team!

*DMatt- Great job at the BBQ! I can tell you feel proud of yourself, I would! (one thing that helps me is to think.. hummm... there are always other days to have a hot dog or hamburger) I need only to choose one, or 1/2 of each! Isn't it great getting a new wardrobe, for free! I am at the point w/my wt loss that I havent' changed sizes yet, but my clothes fit and look much better! It's like new clothes to me!

You all start your week with a winning sparktacular outlook! No matter where you are today, you can be and feel better next wk! That's my plan, and I am starting it now!

Hi ladies, OMG just when I was on a natural high because I was having such an awesome wk w/my neck/arm healing,,,, Last night, I suddenly got lower back issues, big time, I have never had this type of problem. I can't move w/out hurting, I know this is what it means when people say "my back went out" it is 1/2 of my back is just frozen. It threw me into a tizzy, I just decided to eat ice cream, I polished off a 1/2 gal last night and today. I had a huge pitty party complete w/hysterics, with thoughts of: Is this a sign my tennis days are over??? I almost canceled my day at the Circus w/my DD and gdaugh, They were treating me, instead I decided to suck it up, call her and just tell her I am walking like a lil old lady and will do the best I can. I took some muscle relaxers and Motrin and kept moving,

Than when I got home, I was crying (lightly this time) and thought what will I have if my body won't work and the answer came to me: If I couldn't move out of my home, i have so much family to visit me and love me anyways. Most the friends might fall away but the family is here to stay. I see my gkids almost daily, my DD's just alittle less, my mom at least a couple days a wk, and my hubs is my fav BF in the world. I have my spark friends too! +

Earlier today I was facefirst in food, that is how you all meet me. That is where I was and since talking to you all, I have lost wt, lost my need to binge, become stronger and stronger, because I am writing this, I know I am stronger than the ice cream! I am stronger than sugar! You have taught me to believe in myself, a set back is not big deal. I fumbled on the 50 yd line. When I started sparking again, I wasn't even in the stadium! i was "thinking" about turning into the parking lot!

Today I can be sure if I keep sparking and doing my dailys I will be making a big touchdown, (reaching goal) in the future! I am moving toward the goal, inch by inch, to some it's a goalpost, to some it's a soccar net, to some it's a water pollo net , to some you are on a softball field. Others it's a finish line, whatever works for you , think where you are on that field/track. Please share which one works best for you to visualize today and where you are!

bonnie Sending prayers your way that you all will get through this tought time with Him.

Brenda, thank you for the abbreviations! I too, am from the old school that taught me spelling & punctuation were very important. Over here in tokyo, my husband & I (mostly me, though) taugtht all of our kids to read & write in english, since they all went to local japanese schools. We also only used English at home, so they would learn how to speak correctly. It was quite a job! I never allowed shortcuts with them. Hardwork, but it has paid off in the long run.
And I always thought that "DD" was "divorced daughter"! I have learned something new!!! LOL

Wow, lots going on with everyone. Just said goodbye to my kids and grand kids. It's my oldest grandson's 14th birthday so we celebrated with a slip an slide/pool party! Lots of fun and, unfortunately, lots of food. However, I had everyone over to my house which allowed me to have a bit of control about the foods. We had hamburgers and hot dogs and in my old life I would have eaten one of each but not so this time. I had a hamburger (and I weighed all the patties before hand so I knew exactly how much they were) some fruit and an ear of corn. The great thing was that I didn't feel left out because that is exactly what everyone else had! emoticon
The cake was a splurge for certain but I had a small piece and we didn't have ice cream, I didn't even buy any, grandson doesn't like it so I had a good excuse. I figure I've been running around after the little ones (2 and 4 yrs old) for the whole weekend I'm sure I've burned more than enough calories to afford the cake!

The bottom line is I felt like I was in control of the eating which is a big step for me. In my other unfit life I would have just thrown up my hands and surrendered to the occasion. This time around I planned and made sure I would stay on the fit path. I did skip my walk yesterday but will make up for it today. Feels great!

Well, no rest for the wicked I guess, I have a pile of ironing to do that just isn't going to take care of itself! It's all those small clothes I drug out of my closet that I can wear now that have been stuffed in a back corner. Ironing is a chore for sure but I'm glad of the fact that I can wear all this stuff again AND I don't have to buy new clothes.

You are all an inspiration to me, I read what you do to stay on track and realize I can do the same. Too bad we are all so far apart, would be nice to meet and thank you all in person for all the help you've been to me thus far. Take care and I hope you have a great week! emoticon

Happy Sunday people.

I have to try to put the past couple of "not very good weeks" behind me as they are affecting me physically. I get anxious and a huge knot forms in my stomach, making it impossible for me to function properly sometimes, let alone eat. Some people eat when they're anxious, I starve. And that's not good.

The whole break up with my son gets curiouser and curiouser. My DD said she'd been speaking with his ex just a couple of weeks ago and she was talking about their wedding plans. Oh well. It's not my life. But it is hard on the people who loved them as a couple, as well as individually.

Took my middle one, the one who is moving to Ottawa next weekend, shopping for stuff. Costco comes in so handy when you need bulk things. She's stressed because of the move and lots of stuff that go with it. I have to say though, that she is handling it very well, much better than she has handled stress in the past.

The only one who seems to be cruising through life right now is my youngest one, who will be 21 next month. At least I hope he is and that I'm not missing anything.

My weight and body shape are NOT budging. I am very frustrated. I can't eat fewer calories than I do because it's not healthy. I can't exercise any more than I am already. I'm doing between 30 to 45 minutes of heavy cardio a day, plus strength training.

So, plans for this week:

Get my act together for work and finding new clients, so that stress goes.
Help my son move, hopefully to my sister's.
Help my daughter move.
Attend the first quilting evening of my guild for the season.
Try to take care of myself.

edited to add: Founder, you must have posted as I was posting. Good thoughts being sent to Amy, Natalie and Zach, me and their father, Lothar.

MACI

It is tough, and wonderful that a movie can address the emotions we don't often express, because, even though you are both exhausted today, it can be so cathartic.

Hope you and your mom feel good today.

MICHELE

Thanks for noticing my new picture. Actually, it is an old picture. I think it might be about 2 years old, but I wanted to smile big for all of you.

To you and Maci

I can't imagine that pain of losing a child, or a small brother or sister. Prayers for you all.

MARIJA

I am going to make a suggestion, and you can obviously do with it what you please.

Do not get on the scale. There is no law that says you need to weigh in every week, or every month, or whatever.

If the scale is messing with your mind, just leave it.

Do the things you know are good for you, eat as best you can, and let it go.

Personally, I have done it a bit differently, I have made myself weigh every day, and then made myself realize how much fluctuation there is from one day to the next, even with no reason at all. For instance, last week on my weigh in day, I was at 278.6. About 2 days later, I was at 277.6, then went to 279, 278.6, 278, I think even one day it was 280 today I was at 278.

I know in my own mind that I have done well, and there is no explaining what the scale may say.

So, whatever it is on my weigh in day, I record it. But, I have learned through doing this for a long time, that it no longer gets to me. I don't get aggravated, etc.

I am not really suggesting that you do this, but because I have so much weight to lose, I just decided to make myself immune to the scale, and it takes quite awhile to get to the point of not letting it upset you.

Maybe, if you just don't weight for a few weeks, maybe a month, you can take back the power that stupid scale holds over you.

Just a thought.

I had to ask about the abbreviations myself. We learn something new every day!

I had some very bad news last night, and even more this morning.

My closest friend Amy, and I have been friends since I was 26 years old, and she was about 21. When she met her now ex husband, the three of us were kind of a team. We did a lot of stuff together, and even after they were married and had kids, we still did.

I am very close to her children, Natalie and Zachary. They consider me their aunt. Well, last night Amy called me to tell me that her ex, the father of the kids, has stage 4 liver cancer.

The kids are in pretty tough shape. Of course, I still love him as a friend, and as the kid's dad, as does Amy. Her current significant other has also become friends with him.

It is a very tough thing.

This morning, she called me to tell me that his kidneys were not working, and he has had a heart attack.

I am very distraught, and so worried about the kids. It does not appear that he will make it, but who knows how long this will be.

Please send prayers for Amy,Natalie and Zach, me and their father, Lothar.

We can use all of the prayers we can get.

God Bless

Bonnie

MARIJA77,

DD = Dear Daughter
DS = Dear Son
MIL = Mother In Law
FIL = Father In Law
SIL = Son In Law
BTW = By the Way

That's a few of the abbreviations that I know. It drives me crazy when people use abbreviations and I can't figure them out. I am from the old school where spelling and punctuation are critical but now with texting language seems to be a thing of the past.

Hi Everyone:
What on earth is DD? -- Divine daughter? Dandy daughter? Never was good at word games and I know i am going to feel silly when you tell me, but please tell me.

The pound that I lost seems to be a sticking point - every time I hit this pound I start gaining. Something about this pound that scares me. Since I lost the pount my eating has been off center - not being careful with eating, not being mindful. One thing I will say is that I think of you guys and it has kept me away from completely abandoning the good way. Monday will tell the story.
Sometimes TV is good for object lessons. On a TV show - they had the son who has a cocaine habit saying he had been "clean" for 3 months and felt fantastic, on top of the world. Then his anxieties got the better of him and he started using again. What was it that scared him and couldn't cope with being happy and dealing with bad stuff? I know some is habit and he wanted to turn off the bad. In teh past when I felt sick I used to cope by eating. Now I need to cope by taking care and not reverting to habit.
Yesterday I went shopping with my daughter and the baby (15 months), who was a "tad" cranky. I was exhausted! And all I could think of was a frozen yogurt - OK, better than ice cream - but, better would have been a cup of tea and would have made me feel better.

Marey:
So sorry about your son's heartbreak. that pain is real.

Sammi
That is such an accomplishment. Maintaining is the hardest.

Bonnie-
Thanks so much for responding to my woes and inner child. Seems like I have a perpetual cold, but that doesn't stop me from hugging and kissing the precious little ones. I guess I just need to hang in.

Have a good Sunday - will check in tomorrow. Marija

Bonnie, you are so dilligent! to be taking care of your pool & yourself! keep up the good work with the aerobics! And I love your profile picture! It is really, really lovely!

Maci, if I saw such a movie, I would sob, too! My daughter (who happens right this minute to be laying in bed all day feeling sorry for herself b/c my husband & I both yelled at her yestarday for NOT using manners to say "good-bye" to her grandpa & she is nearly 20!) was a twin & the other baby was not viable at birth, but rather only a 10 centimeter fetus. Then about 10 years ago, I had a miscarriage with my 5th baby, & now & then I see something that reminds me of that lost chlld, & I start to cry.....good quality time with your mom

I just came home from church. Now I am going to read my book & have lunch.

Happy sunday all!

Hi girls, oh I am soooo tired, i just scanned over the posts. so nice to read from all, but oh I just don't have the energy to even respond. Today I have actually sobbed w/my mom. We went to the movies and saw The odd life of Timothy ??? I can't remember the name , my mom and I were sobbing so much when it ended that we were making renching noices. Others must of thought we were crazy.

The story is about a kid who is made up of his parents wishes and has only one season to be on earth. His parents couldn't have kids, the story is from the parents telling the adoption agency about their special one season son. It was great!!

I had a little brother who was named after my dad who died when he was 4, it was like it was about his life, in the end the lil girl who they adopted looks almost identical to my bros little girl, My brother was born 1 yr later on the day my other bro died, Oh it was sooooo goood. it was really about how each of us and each child is wonderful just because they are born.

After that movie we watched Hope Springs, I didn't want my mom to see that alone, she loved that too. To emotional. Last night hubs and I stayed up all night organizing the house and watching shows. My pain lessoning and being off the meds is really bringing me back to life!

Hubs and I are gonna go take a nap now! Hope you all have wonderful wkends! see the Timothy movie!

Michele, and Mareyeka

I am so very sorry about your sons' broken hearts. At 25, it is all just so important. Prayers that God will comfort and console them both, and you all as well.

Good idea to get him to get out I think. Good luck

I am tired tonight. Have been trying to get the water level just right to close the pool for the last two days. It takes awhile. Have to go out about a million times a day, ok that is an exaggeration, to see how far I have to go yet. I am thinking that in about another hour or two it should be at the right level.

Think I will wait until tomorrow morning when I am much fresher to put in the chemicals and put on the winter cover.

Would like to get it done tonight, but I have learned something in my life. When I am as tired as I am right now, it is not a good idea for me to try to do something physical. That is when I hurt myself. Broken bones, Scraps, scratches, whatever, I am not going to allow my self to do that tonight. After all, it will be close for the entire winter, one more day won't hurt!

I have the hoses disconnected, and the pump draining etc. Done enough for today.

Went to the gym to work on some aerobics. Was reading about the training where you amp it up for a minute, and then come back slowly, then go back up for a minute, etc.

They have a bicycle where you sit on a balance ball. So, did 10 minutes on that with a couple of fast bits for one minute.

Then got on the recumbent elliptical and did that for 21 minutes, having done 4 one minute pushes during that time.

Did the gazelle, which is quite hard and I have no done it for quite a few months, so I did 2 minutes on it. Actually, it is not exactly like the one I used in physical therapy last winter, it is much harder, so it was a good start.

Then rode the regular recumbent bike for 7 minutes, so I had 40 minutes all together.

Went to dinner with Diana, and now am home, pretty tired from all of that.

WOW.

Too tired to answer the rest of you, just know that you are all in my heart.

Have a great weekend

Bonnie

Maryeka my 25 year old son had also broken up with his fiancee a few years back. They too, were planning to get married & she called it off. Many think that she was just too immature to take such a big step, but my son was ready. It was sad to see his heart broken, too.

Maci, I loved the brownies & girls scouts. My mom was also my girl scout leader Good for you!

Hi all, I haven't had a chance to read any of the past couple of days' posts. Lots going on around here and not all for the better.

One of the biggest issues is my son and his fiancee have broken up. They were together for over three years. She is staying in their home, which means he has to find a place to live. As a broke student, that's not an easy thing. He's 25. But, my sister, his cool aunt (she is 14 yrs younger than I), has an extra room so we're trying to convince him to move in with her, even if just for the short term while he tries to figure things out. He's 25 - still very young, but he seemed so happy. His ex is a year older.

Broke my heart to see my 6 ft tall "little boy" look so sad.

I convinced him to go out to dinner with me tonight. I'm meeting up with a colleague who is here in town moving her son into residence as he was accepted into McGill. I've never met her in person, but she's here with her husband, son and daughter. So, I'm bringing my daughter (the one who is moving to Ottawa next weekend) and I convinced my son to come. I did try to convince the younger one to come too, but he's too tired. Hubby is away for the weekend and upset that he can't be here for the oldest.

Mango Margaritas!! sound wonderful what a great way to enjoy the weekend. I am visiting grand baby in Phoenix. At least the storms have dropped the temperatures here. I have a real problem doing any exercising in the heat and it is hard to watch what you eat in someone else's house. After gaining 5lbs back after the baby was born, I now have a list of food I need to help me stay on plan. Daughter is happy to have MOM come so she is ready. This has helped a lot and I am back on track.

Maci these young fit people have chips in the house and I had a serious talk with myself about not eating even ONE.

Amazonian - Hi, I teach 8th grade Language Arts and US History. I love it, history is a passion of mine and I love to read and write so it's a great combination. A year ago they closed the school I had been teaching at for 15 years so this is only my 2nd year at my new school. Last year was a real trial but this year looks great. We have a really nice group of 8th graders coming and I'm looking forward to it. I start officially on Wednesday the 29th but I have already done 4 days of workshops and literacy planning so it feels like work has already started.
We still
Maclinn - I love that you are a scout leader, what a great thing to do!! My Mom was my Brownie leader when I was a young girl and I will always remember that time in my life. We still joke about some of the things we did for crafts during that time. I remember a time when we made our own "snow globes" and mine just wouldn't seal so when I shook it up it leaked all over. I cried and cried so my Mom stayed up all night to make me another one!

Sounds like you all are doing pretty well! I weighed in this morning and am another 2# down! emoticon It feels really good to be making progress. But what I really am enjoying is how fit I feel and how I have so much more energy and stamina when working out or just working around the house! That's the true value of eating right and exercising. But I have to admit I really enjoy fitting into my old "small" clothes, it's like getting a new wardrobe without the credit card bill!!

Well, it's time for our band to start playing (I play guitar and sing) so I will wish you all a great weekend! Celebrate your successes and move forward after a setback!! We will all get there, I'm sure of it! emoticon

hello all!!

My DD and beau are coming in tonight -- I feel a mango margarita and the hot tub in our future! :-) Tomorrow we head up to Pittsburgh for the Sat and Sunday. We come back Sunday late afternoon/early evening. And then reality kicks in Monday with students!

I will be happy to see the humidity go it's merry way and the crisp fall air move in.

So glad we have each other to come to, when a little extra support is needed!
