Fiona, a size 10----GREAT!!!! Keep going, I am right with you!

Sammi, glad you had your liquid sunshine. Great that you are keeping your goal. Just one day at a time!

Bonnie, good idea to keep your bathing suit with you. The pool is so therapeutic, don't you think? Such a gentle exercise for our bodies.

Today I am going to the local 7-11 store here; I have received a free coupon for a free ice coffee. They make very good ice coffee & I am so excited to get it!

SAMMI

Congrats on keeping at goal. You are doing great to be able to do that. I know you can continue on. Just stay here with us, and keep us all looking forward to that day!

MACI

Isn't it good to just feel so good about the advances we have made? I feel as though all of the stuff I have gone through, and the progress I am making along the way, are the only way I will be able to stay at my goal, once I get there.

Right now, I am anxious to get back to the 263 that I was before all of the pain etc with my back. Have about 15 or 16 pounds to go, so your 12/12/12 challenge is perfect for me. It would take me almost there!

ELIZA

Congrats on the job and enjoy the process and the learning of new things.

Chocolate milk sounds like just the right treat!

SUZANNE

Good to see you here, and hope your workout was great!

MICHELE

Still sending the cool weather, must be taking a long time to get there. Actually, we are supposed to be getting some hot weather back this weekend. I will enjoy that, but it will not have such humidity as you and SAMMI are having. We are still having cool nights.

FIONA

I have found that my sinuses are better since I use a nasal rinse when I begin to have issues. Fingers crossed!

Size 10 emoticon

Congratulations on 34 years! An amazing accomplishment. Have a great time and good weather!

Going to the pool in a little while. Really don't have much planned this weekend. My niece just called to invite me over on Sunday for her mom's birthday. I will be taking my bathing suit for sure.

When I was out there yesterday, the pool was warm enough to swim, so everyone was swimming but me! That won't happen again! Swim suit in car at all times!

Wishing you all a great weekend!

Bonnie

Good Morning Sparklers, it is going to be our first day without rain in the last week. Enjoyed the liquid sunshine -- the grass, trees and flowers needed it. Also kept it a bit cooler although our humidity yesterday was 97%. Like a sauna until it started raining.

Have been able to stay at my goal weight -- and am enjoying my new yoga class. This week will try to make it two days.

Fiona, nice to have you back.

Michele, when you talk about the heat it reminds me how much I don't miss Scottsdale, AZ.

Hi Marija, Bonnie, Maci, Eliza, Suzanne, Michele and those I have missed.

Marija emoticon for the lost pound.

Bonnie what an interesting chat. I have issues with my sinus' and take garlic, horseradish and marshmallow tablets for ti. If I don't they play up at some stage in each season.

Maci you are lucky have the gKids close like that

Eliza, hope the job goes well.

Suzanne hope you got your work done, and yes its so different with a pleasant day like a spring day

Michele we can do it together.

I have just had stuff happen and it all sort of got me off track but I'm back!!
I am having that trouser thing. The ones I have on today so need a belt or giving away I bought a size 10 skirt yesterday too, Caroline Eve sale! for next winter. I can do it up but it sort of sits high up under my breast bone but it will slip down to my waist as the more weight comes off. A size 10!!!!!

Had a busy day at work getting things done and I am about to head out the door to deliver a few things then packing as Hubby and I are going over to The Mount for the weekend as its our 34 wedding anniversary and some friends have an apartment there we can use.Hope the weather stays fine for a walk around the mount.

Hi all. Another hot day. I can't wait for this to end!

Maci, thank you for the tips. I have never tried that. I will try on sunday, when I walk another 50 minutes from my church to the train station again.

bonnie, you sound like you have come a long way in your life journey. I also practice the "one day at a time" habit. I must live by it. If I don't, I will gain tons & tons of weight. i will despise myself.

Fiona, I also love spring. I'm glad that you are feeling more positive. I too, have basically started over. We will do this together!

Hi there --

I have not checked in much this week, but wanted to see how everyone is doing -- Most of you seem to be doing well. Yeah!!

Dmatt -- What do you teach (grade, content?). I have been getting ready for this coming Monday. I know many of my students from past courses with me. I completely understand the need to be planned so far ahead. It is such a stress reliever!

Fiona -- Seeing the start of spring is an awesome time of year. It has been a long winter for you. Enjoy!!

Maci -- You sound like you are doing better in the last couple of days -- it is okay to go off the wagon a little. Don't be too hard on yourself.

I need to get going if I am going to get my work out in. I really need it, so I must sign off.

Hi girls, Oh it feels so good outside right now, It is cool and misting, Love it, Its 65-70 degrees right now. I hope it stays this way all day, today was the first day of school, started the morning eating bkfst w/all my gkids took pics, then their moms took the to school. What a perfect morning, I am lucky I get my gkids 3 morns a wk before school. I love that time the most.

If you get a chance take the time to read the "10 things that make you special" on the introduce yourself to the team area, it is really nice to read about all of you I write too. I learned lots of new things. Please add you own too! In Sept I am going to change it to something different for us all to get to know each other! or just to make you remember the good things in your life. Really Ck it out!

This morn we took out teddybear (yorki) for his first ever grooming, it's about time he is 6. I always cut his coat, hubs washes him but neither of us do the icky stuff, nails, teeth, etc. so we thought lets just do it, he looks so cute, it was actually fun,

afterwards we stopped at a gently used baby store and found the stroller my DD Em really wants, we bought it for only $30 and drove over and brought it to her, it needs some TLC we were gonna clean it up good than decided to drop it off as is and let her fix it herself, she has so much energy and can't do much, although today she replanted her frount flower bed. She was so happy. She and John bought this lil home from us right up the street, yesterday I walked to it. It is a fixer up and she loves being creative, she has lots of energy like her dad, so She is so happy to be painting, planting, organizing, etc. . She is 6 mos pregnant.

*Brenda- I don't like to pay for things that I can do for free! It is my frugal part of me. I think sparking is the key but it is good to have a coach for those who might need it to get jump started! Love the temps you are having, Oside where I live the avg temp is 72. It's what we have on our city tshirts! Love the way you handled your fishstick munch, just adjusted to make it work. Thats awesome, thanks for sharing. My toaster oven was my fav appliance when my kids were growing up, I am really thinking, I may get one again! Sounds like John might be able to use your old toaster, gang up and hijack his! teehee,

*Sunny- I never bring tortilla chips in my home anymore, they are like kriptonite to me, I will eat nothing else but them and if there is chz in the house, its chips and chz for B,L,D and snacks. Thanks for reminding me it's not a crime! teehee, just not a real good idea! esp fresh ones in baskets! Maybe next time the 2nd basket is not a good option???

*Bonnie- The truth is that my normal eating was like my naughty days now, before i started sparkin. Shows how far I have come. How nice to have a whirlpool to stretch in at your gym, I like to use the condo or our jacuzzi to stretch in. How nice to be so close to your parents, You are blessed like me to still have them. Sometimes if you are anything like me, it's tough to remember how lucky we are! teehee

*Mich- OMG your gonna walk 50 min in that heat? Hat's off to you girl! You rock! bring a mini spray bottle w/ice cold water in it, spray the back of your neck, and the back of your knees, it will feel like heaven, also if you pour water on the top of your head when you are hot it will cool you down in such a wonderful way. that's a tennis secret!

*DMatt- Wow great inches loss! makes me want to measure my success! I think I will make that a first of the month plan from now on. I did measure when i started sparkin. How great super hubs is on your team helping you out. My Gson just started middle school, most think he is mine, it's preety great to be a young gma. Love it. I've been a GScout leader over 17 yrs, i love when i run into my girls, most are married w/their own kids, they always tell me how they will never forget doing this or that, sometimes i can't even remember them, but I hug them and say of course we had a great time. etc. The troop I have now is filled with my scouts lil girls, my DD and I are the leaders and she is still friends with most her scout friends. It's awesome, this Sept is our last meeting forever! Time to move on, considering being my youngest gdaugh leader, she has so many custody issues that it may be the only way she can be a scout and she has grown up with our troop. She has always thought of herself as a gscout, she just started Kgard today.

*Mari- I take every pc of paper i use, fold it in 4ths and rip it and put it in a pile for my sparkin, (I use the backs that are blank) than take notes when I read the posts, it works really nice. and cost's nothing, I also don't feel bad throwing it out because it was already recycled! -1 woohoo for you! I always eat my sweets out now, it works for me!

*Fiona- Yeah, I hear ya! We have to eat less and move more to stay feeling and becoming what we want to be. I wonder why we tend to forget that??? Just remember we always feel so much better when we do it!

Happy Thurs all!

Good for you on the weight loss, and good for you for not allowing your baby to sabotage you. YEA!

I can tell you all about catching stuff from the little ones. I retired 8 1/2 years ago to babysit for my twin nieces' new little ones.

Then a couple of years later, they both had another child. All together I have 3 great nieces, and a great nephew.

The two couples, live in houses built next to each other. I babysit at one house or the other.

Well, for several years, EVERY time one of them got sick, I did too.

When they began school, it of course got worse.

Two years ago, I had the H1N1 virus in the fall when they all got it, but I was sick for about 6 weeks. My resistance was low, so then in Jan, I got a terrible sinus infection that then went into bronchitis. I was actually down about two weeks, I was so sick, I could not even babysit.

I was sick from January 15,through about March 20th, that year. It was just a terrible winter.

My sinuses are very small, so that is why I was attacked there usually.

Now, I seem to have developed immunities, and they seem to have developed them as well, so none of us gets very sick any more. Boy, is that a relief.

I know that I am an extreme case, because of the physical sinus issues, those are hereditary, but my point is that at some time, hoping sooner than later, you will all get better immunities, and not get so sick anymore.

I doubt if it will take you as long as it did me, so hoping that soon you will stay well!

By talking about the "Baby" in you, you reminded me of my "8 year old girl". I have not give her any thought for quite awhile.

It seemed that in young years, 8 years old is where I assign all of the emotional pain.

I am sure that it was over a longer period of time, but for me it has always been my 8 year old self.

I am realizing, that even with the difficulties that I have had in the last couple of years, and the weight that I have gained, I really think she has grown up a lot.

She would throw tantrums, and say that I WOULD eat whatever I wanted, that no one could tell me what to do, and it was my own business.

Well, I think that she has grown up because I have made this journey my own, and feel that I AM doing what it is I want to do.

There is no need for any more tantrums, at least not more than a very small one occasionally, because I am feeling as though these are MY decisions, I am NOT on a diet, or doing what someone else thinks I should be doing, I am learning to love myself, and I guess her as well, and treat myself with respect and good will.

You have just made me realize how much living my life one day at a time, and NOT allowing all of the ugly messages that I have learned from the rest of society to influence me, has changed my life so much.

Thanks for bringing that up, I don't think I would have realized what I have been able to do if you had not reminded me of her. I think she is pretty much healed now. She has not spoken to me in such a long time!

It was a great gift you have given me today. Thank you!

See what happens from our sharing?

DM

Glad you are having better weather. It always makes us feel good with good weather.

Have a great visit with your family. Your daughter must have had her children at a very young age, you are NOT old enough to have a 14 year old grandchild!

Good luck getting your room and lessons in order. Have a great school year!
The rest of us really need you great teachers. Thank God for you.

Well, it is getting late, I need to get dressed and get to my niece's house to get the girls off the schoolbus.

Have a great rest of the day my friends.

Hi Everyone, I did a fast check-in and read the posts yesterday but was on my daughter's Ipad (was babysitting) and couldn't figure out how to write a long letter. My husband is going to buy me a tablet for my birthday (July), it is really for traveling but I want it to behave like a computer, so it is a problem. Also not willing to pay for an Ipad, want an inexpensive one so that if something happens to it, I won't cry too hard.

What was I saying? Anyone seems as if we are all fighting the same battles:

So happy that I lost another pound, so decided had it licked and was ready to go all out. Then I reminded myself how many times I thought I had it licked, but the "baby" in me was fighting to get out, so I compromised - bought a cupcake, ate 1/2 gave half to hub, had my macaroni & eggplant, sooo much less than is my usual and was truly full!
Babysat all day for 1.4 yr old gc, did a lot of walking. Baby had a runny nose again.
Beginning of week went to Dr. again and told him I still hadn't gotten over cold - he said I was doing well. I told him I just don't get over grandchild colds. He said if it happens again he will take blood and see what's going on with my immune system.
Does anyone else have a problem with gc illnesses?
Have a good day, everyone....Marija

Yesterday was the first fine day in ages. Its spring here now and I have discovered that winter makes me comfort eat, not exercise and generally not get into this whole thing.
But yesterday I thought I am not going to get back into it. I have said this for a few weeks as the weight has actually started to creep back on and I though its not just the thinking "I am going to get back into it" and think that it was magically going to happen. I have to actually DO IT
So I tracked my food (ate slightly over) and went for a walk - the first in a long time. SO I can see exactly why the weight is coming back on and I have to get back into the whole plan.
But I can do it.

Today I am feeling so positive and looking forward to the new summer me

DM glad to hear from you! You sound well.

Brenda, sorry I mixed up the fire incident. I tend to mix things up now & then. It sounds like you live in a very nice place. Very organized.

Bonnie, go ahead & "rub it in" about your weather---it's good to hear something "cool" for a change! It is rather miserable here, however, I've learned to live with it. It really does make me appreciate a nice cooler day. And that won't be long coming.

Now off to read my book in front of the fan!

Hey Everyone,
Been away for a couple of days, back to work and my classroom isn't even close to being ready! Been tracking everything and fixing good lunches so I'm not tempted to go out with the other teachers every day. That's going to be key for me the next few weeks, we have traditionally gone out for lunch somewhere each day these first few days back to work. They gave me a bit of a bad time today, joking of course, but I just laughed them off and it was fine. I did treat myself to an iced skinny vanilla latte today, small one of course. I measured myself today and have lost 3 inches from my waist and 3.5 from the hips and 2 from the bust so I definitely deserved a treat! THEN, super hubby cooked dinner and he measured out the pasta so we each only had one serving and added a bunch of veges to the marinara sauce so it had great flavor and not a lot of calories!

Weather has been just perfect here in western Oregon. Cool nights (finally getting some good sleep) and high 70's low 80's during the day, just beautiful. Kids are coming this weekend with the grandkids, celebrating my oldest grandson's birthday, he will be 14! OMG, I am totally NOT old enough to have a grandson in the 8th grade!!! emoticon
Hopefully the good weather stays around so we can cook outside and have some fun.

Met some of my new students over the past couple of days and they seem to be super kids! Really friendly and ready to get back to school (gotta love that). Been working in my classroom putting up bulletin boards and organizing my materials. Getting a new desk this year. My old one was a special order that was not functional. Some braniac at the administration building ordered it thinking it would be great but it was just stupid, didn't even have any drawers! So I finally got fed up and found one at a recycle shop here locally for $50. I have to buy it myself but it's going to be SOOOO much better. Once I get it organized I'll be able to get the rest of my room ready to go and start doing my first week's lesson plans. I freak out if I'm not planned ahead at least 10 days, it never stays that way but at least I've got a direction I want to go and plans for each day.

Well, time for the evening walk. I am so glad that this had become such a habit. I feel that I've missed out on something if I don't go, even if it's for a short one. Don't want to waste the good weather while we have it.

Hope all is going well for all of you. I read that some are still struggling with health issues, take it easy and take care of yourselves! And whatever you do don't beat yourself up over the eating thing!!! Once you feel better I'm sure you'll get right back on the path you've chosen. Stay focused on the good you've already done for yourself! Everyone have a great end of the week! emoticon

Bonnie, our building is a HUD building for low income senior citizens 62 or disabled, owned by the Federal Government. They run a tight ship and everything has to be working properly at all times. Lots of rules and regulations but it doesn't bother us. We have yearly inspections just to check that we don't have anything closer than 8 inches to the baseboard heaters and they check all the appliances and faucets and smoke detectors. They change the batteries in our smoke detectors every October and we don't have to supply the batteries. There's a panic cord to pull in the bathroom. bedroom and living room in case of emergency. The call goes to the office, if they don't answer, it goes to 911 and if we don't answer the ER's come. That is providing a person can get to it to pull the cord. Most falls here happen in the kitchen. Many have the 'help I can't get up' necklace or bracelet. We have two vacancy's now because they went to Assisted Living homes. There is a long list to get in here.

Michelle,

We didn't have a fire in our building yesterday, it was down the street and the smoke came in our windows. John burning his muffins and setting off his alarm in his apartment happens all the time. just smoke, no flames. Sorry if I confused you.

Our temps are in the mid 60', low 70's the last couple days. Just right as far as I'm concerned. I hope you get some low temps soon. No air conditioning has to be so miserable.

Good to know that your building management has taken the necessary precautions to keep you all safe. Yea.

The guy with the English muffins is a hoot. He needs to buy a toaster oven! Silly man.

MICHELE

Hoping that you all get some relief from this heat soon. I know that you said you can't use the air because of the earthquake, but will you be able to look forward to using it NEXT summer? I sure hope so.

Had a good day.

Went to Dr Mike for a treatment. Was pretty sore but felt better after. Then went to the gym and swam about 65 minutes. Spent some time in the whirlpool, and then did a few PT exercises in the pool Back is tired, but not feeling too bad. One day at a time, I am getting better.

Then stopped at a local restaurant that has a nice salad bar for $6.50. They have soup, and good salad choices, fresh fruit, and a couple of puddings. A good meal for that price.

I had not eaten very much today, so I ate a good dinner.

Came home, talked to my mom on the phone, I call her daily, and then sat on the back deck reading my book.

I don't want to rub it in, but we had a pretty nice day again today. It was pretty warm, and is supposed to be getting hotter in a couple of days, but with the cool nights, it keeps the humidity down a bit.

My dad walked to the bowling alley today where he works during the week in the afternoons, and he said it was hot. Of course, he goes at about 1:30p or 2:00pm when the day is usually the hottest.

My mom went to the new Hollywood Casino here in Toledo, well a suburb, Rossford. She lost her little bit of money, had a nice lunch and a good visit with her friends.

I am so blessed that they are able to live their lives. My dad seems to be totally recovered from whatever it was that made him pass out. I am just glad that he is not hiding in the house afraid to live his life, for fear of dying.

Don't know if I mentioned it or not, but because he passed out, he cannot drive for 6 months legally in Ohio.
So, if Mom is busy and can't take him over to the bowling alley, he walks. He would walk at least a mile a day anyway, and this is just a bit further.

I am taking all of that one day at a time as well. When they are gone, no one will be able to say that they missed anything. My goal is to be them when I grow up!

have a great evening my friends. I am going to record my nutrition and fitness, and maybe do a blog and then get off of the computer.

Brenda glad you are safe after the fire in your bldg.

too tired & hot! to read all of the other posts. I have no a.c. here, & it will be around 95 again. If only the humidity would go down, it would be more tolerable. The weatherforcast keeps promising, but no relief so far.

I am going to church, & then will walk 50 minutes to the far train station to get my walk in. It is going to be a very hot walk. I have my water bottle & towel with me.

Happy Wednesday, girls!

Michele

Bonnie, I am not worried about fire in our building as long as the water works because we have built in sprinkler systems in every room, halls, stairs, you name it. If there is a fire in someone's apartment the sprinklers are supposed to put it out. Smoke is another issue but I am not going to worry about those things. John down the hall keeps trying to toast muffins (English I think) in his old toaster and keeps setting his fire alarm off. I told him to either buy a new toaster with wider slots or cut his muffins in half, spread with butter and fry them in his iron skillet. He is a recent widower. Not too smart. He says the muffin's go in the toaster but then they stick so he puts a knife in to try to get the muffin out! Duh.................

Glad that you are feeling better. I really think that your mind and body will have you eating things from time to time that you would not do on a normal day.
These things happen. I think especially when you have had a physical illness or pain.

Today is the day to deal with, and I have absolute confidence that you are doing so.

BRENDA

You so seldom splurge on anything, that I am sure you are the same as Maci, you are all about today as well.

Glad the fire was NOT in your building. I am pretty afraid of fire. I won't even burn candles. I do have one candle warmer that I use occasionally, but no open flames for me.

I am getting ready to go to the chiropractor and then to the pool after I post this.

Hope you are all well, and I will check back in again tonight!

Enjoy the journey!

Macilinn eating chips and salsa is not a crime! They are wonderful salty and crunchy with the spice of salsa, I never have them in the house because I will eat a whole bag by myself. So going out and having it means that at least it isn't available. Sounds like you are making progress on your physical health, Stay happy!!

MACI,
Sparkcoach is a new feature that is a paid coach. Not sure how you get to it but it has popped up on my screen a few times. I don't know the cost so maybe that will work for you if you have to pay for it, you might stick with it. LOL

Yesterday I pulled out a bag of fish sticks and cooked what was left in the bag (14 sticks) and was planning on eating half now, half later. Each one is 41 calories. I baked them in my toaster oven and they turned out really crispy, like french fries. I put them on a paper towel to blot out the excess fat and ate the whole thing for lunch. 574 calories!! OMG! Well it was salad for dinner and drank a lot of water. This morning the scale didn't fail me. I didn't gain anything! Whew!

After lunch I went to the mall to buy my car tabs and walked around and ended up in Sears and found a Mini Cuinisart Processor for $29 ($10 off) plus I used my Sears points and got another $7 off. It can be used to chop stuff, turn the blade over and it is a grinder to do coffee beans, seeds, make banana yogurt ice cream and all sorts of yummy low cal things. My new toy. It matches my microwave, toaster oven and new coffee pot (black and silver). Now if I could talk the manager into buying me a new refrigerator and stove to match. Yeah, right, in my dreams but it's a nice thought. I will be getting a new stove as soon as she gets more funds but it will be while. They are replacing all the stoves as they are 15 years old. Barbara's on the second floor started sparking ( the oven) the other day so her new stove will be coming in a couple days.

Then I stopped at the store and bought salad stuff, bananas, yogurt, and coffee and came home. Showed the ladies my treasures. Faith was working on a project our manager is making and she said she needed a mandolin cutter/shredder. Well, I came home and dug out mine and gave it to her. I have a few things that do the same thing and I never use the mandolin much anyway. More room in my cupboards.

So today I will only eat healthy foods now that I got the crunchy food thoughts out of my head. Cucumbers make the same crunch as fried foods and they help get salt out of the body.

There was a fire down the street yesterday morning and the smoke got into our hall because the window was open. I heard the sirens and opened my door and smelled smoke so I went investigating and saw the truck down the street. I closed the hall window and turned on the hall air conditioner. Silly me left my door open when we all ran downstairs and outside to see what was going on. It was a bush on fire in someones front yard and it was put out quickly. It took me two hours to get the smoke out of my apartment so I can't imagine the smoke from those fires still burning in Eastern Washington.

It's good that people are feeling better and getting into smaller sizes. I did read the posts but names have escaped me. Too lazy to open up another window this morning to re-read the posts and comment on each one.

Ok girls This wk has been tough and it isn't even 1/2 way through, I really need to buckle down again. I was so on focus for so long and poof this wk has been a challenge, all self induced!

Today at the movies I had a big bag of caramel popcorn, Ok i came home, logged it in, and it preety much took care of the rest of my cals for the day, No biggie, than I went into dumb behavior, since I wasn't hungry i didn't eat dinner (should of had salad or fruit anyways)

We went to see our kids new home, and they wanted to take us to Chilis (treat dad cuz he was helping them with their new frount yard), I thought wow i am having such a great day, I feel good and it just feels right to go celebrate w/the kids, well we sat in the bar and they brought the chips and salsa, (my biggest weakness in life) as usual I ate most! I mean I raced the table and won! we had it filled 2X.

Afterwards I thought Oh I don't want to wear this! My mind started going into all kinds of crazy thoughts of how can you get rid of it??? Exercise never came to mind. Instead I thought "i did it, I need to live with it" So I sucked it up and know that I have gone two steps back this wk. grrrr.

Today I have already planned a walk to bkfst w/a friend and we are gonna share! Of course I have not been able to sleep, I slept about 2 hrs last night. I hope i am alive and kicking for my walk, if not I also have a plan to go to the pool at 2pm. So maybe I will just do some extra walking then if I crash. Main thing is that I have a plan for doing well tonight. Two steps back does not mean I am out of the race. It just means I made a lazy pit stop!

i have no idea if phycologically this is an issue or not, but my last w/i was so low, I was cheering but also sort of thinking I didn't deserve such a great #. This injury has had me on my back all month and it just didn't seem possible to lose w/o doing activity. I thought for sure my wt loss had come to a halt. I know silly to think like that.

Today I need to keep on track w/my dailys, I need to not get to busy or lazy to spark, or log in my cals no matter what the #. I need to take my vits, do my jems, move, and stick to my commitment to only f&v's after 8. Last night the chips won, today I need to take charge again.

Good news is that yesterday not only was I pain free, I was on top of the world, I hit a tennis ball 500 times against the house, actually was sweatin! and even did some pepper! (hit it against the wall w/o letting it bounce, over and over) very challenging. i feel confident that after my morning hubs rub down I will be in tip top shape again today.

*Sunny- Yeah! Big Pants Rock!
*Dahlia- Woohoo! -2 . feels so good!
]*Bonnie- Hope you slept well, and your headache is just a mild memory today.
*Brenda- Heat? Maybe your headaches are because of the change in temp?
*Susan- Spark coach? How do you get one?
*Mare- Thank goodness for drugs! teehee, I never would of said that one till this month, glad you found something that worked. Try a new class, sometimes it's just the right one! They say do it 6 times before you give up, sometimes it just takes a little bit of time to fall in love!

Have a great day tomm sparklers!

Good Wednesday morning,

I took a bit of a break yesterday. Still felt awful with this dry bronchial cough. But... there is improvement. On top of that cough, I had a horrendous itchy-in-the-back-of-my-throat cough that was just awful. A friend suggested last night that the itching could be due to allergies (ragweek season here). "But I don't have allergies," says I. "But they can start," says she. Duh... I know that. I've told other people that! LOL Anyway, I took an antihistamine last night and - sure enough - no itchy throat. What do you know?

Despite my discouragement about no changes in my body, either clothes fitting wise or scale wise, I am still going to the gym. This morning, I even felt like upping my cardio again and I did 45 minutes - 25 before and 20 after. The September exercise class list will be going up soon. Although I generally hate anything in a group, I may just give a class a try now that I know I can do this much cardio in one go. (did I just think/write/say that???)

Susan, let us know how the Spark Coach goes. I signed up but then never used it.

Founder - sinus headaches are nasty. I hope you feel better soon.

Sunnybeachgirl - yay you!

Maci - fantastic that you are having less pain. Chronic pain is awful and the worst part, in my opinion, is that many people just don't understand it. "But you were fine yesterday!"

Ok, off to go find something healthy for breakfast....

Congrats, and thanks for sharing that the scale is not the only indicator of how we are doing. You are doing great.

I have a sinus headache tonight, so I read as much of the posts as I could, but not able to go back and talk to you all tonight.

Best wishes and God Bless to all!

Not much to report, tired, and with this headache, I am going to try to get to bed a bit earlier than usual.

It was a good day, had Gracee and Ellee a couple of hours after school, and just worked on paying bills, figuring bills, etc. Probably why the headache is kind of bad. More bills than money!

Have a great tomorrow my friends

It seemed that watching what I eat, logging in everyday and being conscientious about moving about every day was not having any effect on the number on the scale. But then last night I put on one of my regular "go out to dinner" pants and they were TOO BIG to wear. I haven't had these on all summer. Pulled out one of my next size down and they were a little tight but they fit. The number on the scale is still not dropped but something good is happening. My goal this time is not to do anything too extreme, normal amounts of food just watching calories a little more, walking a little longer but not being an exercise junkie. I would really like to get to the best weight and be able to stay there this time. Love this team page, it really does help to read and share.

Hi ladies I have been on the move today, horray! This is honestly the best pain day I have had in wks. I don't hurt anywhere! It's great, We started 3 days ago w/hubs rubbing out my back each morning, because I am stiff and in pain, and after he is done, poof! I can spend the whole day feeling great. Yesterday i sat up all day and no neck pain. OMG Heaven, today is even better, went to PT, the movies , went and saw Hope springs w/hubs, in that fancy movie house I told you all about, it has recliners, waiters, etc. It is really swanky, you get to drink too! My hubs had a few beers , I ordered hot caramel popcorn & Diet coke, OMG it was heaven. We had a 50 gift cert I won at the last tennis tournament i was at, we still went 20 over, but it was worth it. Now I am determined more than ever to see if we have meet ups in our area!

*Kath- Sounds like just a perfect wkend w/an old friend, it's been yrs since I did that w/a old friend. Yeah for you for maintaining and joining curves!
*Brenda- How nice for Romona for you all to stop for a visit, you must of made her day!
*Skip- No worries girl, keep sparkin and moving with your tennis and curves you will be styling a wt loss in no time! Awsome turning Sis onto Sparks, it sure is enticing to hear about a 9pd in 1 mo loss, but the idea of shots... Ouch!

*Dahlia- How cool you have a meet ups that you are already hooked into too! I wrote down to ck it out but forgot, you reminded me, thanks have fun!
*Eliza- That is a good idea, eat one of something scrumptious than follow it with a fav fruit. That will stop the need to keep snacking on the high cal treat. Yes, we all know what oreos are in the states! My hubs fav!

*Ama- Wow GREAT NEWS about your sons funding! sounds like you have lots of things on the fire this wk, enjoy them! don't forget about us too!
*Golf- I want a maid too! Most the women I play tennis with have them, but I just cannot justify it, my house is to little, and I don't work. hummmm Oh well, there is always dreaming!

I am on a roll today, cleaning, doing laundry, really just moving w/o pain feels like a dream. I hope I don't pay tomm, today I am gonna enjoy it and get as much done as possible, oh good news, yesterday I hit tennis balls against my home about 200 times and it didn't hurt, I am crossing my fingers that I will be able to play league in Mid Sept. Tomm I may try to play some pattycake w/hubs and see how that goes!

Decided to organize the laundry room today. Groan - how come there are tools in here and stored winter gloves and mitts. Lord give me strength! Lightbulbs, Paint and painting trays, how come there is no room for my laundry soaps and spot cleaners and stuff. I need a maid!! Everytime I put " like" stuff in a box type container, my DH comes along and takes it out and puts it loose on a shelf. Grrrrrrrrrr! Retired men need a job. Ok, just venting!! emoticon
Eliza - congrats on getting that job!!

Our first official teacher day for the new year -- got a lot done today and am going to work out tonight. I am glad to have gone in those few days. I will be relaxed for the upcoming weekend and will be ready for the new kiddos! My chem classes are mixed grades, which is a very good thing. The bio class is all 10th graders. I know most of them and they are good kids. It should be a nice semester!

Our second son sent us an email today -- he has FULL funding for his master's and through his doctoral program!!! The school is really interested in his thesis project and thinks it could lead to some true break throughs in prosthetic device development! He will also get a small stipend every two weeks. He has struggled to get himself to this place. I could not be more proud!

Michelle
Wonderful news about your eyes! It has been a long time coming!! Regarding the AC... I am assuming you are not to use it since it would be a huge drain on the power grid, possibly causing brown outs. Is this correct or is there another reason?

Fiona
Awww, the 21st is such a special bday! It sounds like you had a wonderful time. Take care and rest after that catering job!

Julie
Running a marathon with a broken nose must have been painful -- the throbbing from the up and down motion! Take care!

Mareyeka
It is a pain to wait for progress -- be the turtle, you will get there. The scale may not show it, but your fitness level will. The fitness level is what is truly important!

Bonnie
Splurging is okay. It keeps us from feeling deprived. Good for you on your overall progress!

Dgrower
Our micronutrients are so important. They help our bodies convert and use the energy in the food we eat. You are correct, when we have the correct levels we will feel more energetic! Enjoy your hike!! My local meetup seems pretty active, but I think it will need to wait until the start of the school year settles down. I would have never seen them if it had not been for sp!

Maci
Sometimes splurges are a good thing!!

Kathleen
Good for you -- I hope you enjoy curves!! It sounds like you and your dear friend had a blast, yippee!!!

Brenda
Maybe the weight gain was due to the salt in the food? Drink water and flush your system.

Eliza
I am sure your son did well on his tests and that he will do well as he moves forward.

I am taking time to breathe.....I took my teen to the community college for the placement test at 8:30 am, decided to just stay and wait, I did go walk ten minutes. I applied at the bookstore for a p/t job they were announcing for and, I got it. I will work probably just one week but, it is better than nothing. Waited till 11:44am and he feels he did really good on the essay and english, and math. Maybe homeschooling was worth it and, I did eat a oreo today {naughty} the ones that have chocolate and white filling - they are soooooooo good. Have you tired them?? I found some frozen strawberries and had some to not cheat anymore. LOL

Finished playing tennis and going to curves. I had a whey shake with frozen berries. It cooled me down nicely. Will have a wrap with turkey for lunch and a nectarine and some cherries. I have been trying weight watchers, but I am not losing weight. Still waiting for the magic pill that will take my appetite away. It seems I can eat huge portions until I feel full. Going to go with a friend to see the Marigold Hotel and then out to dinner. I plan on having a grilled salmon salad. My sister started the vitamin B12 shots, the D shots and some other one last week. She has lost 9 pounds. She signed up for a month. I told her to come on the spark people page for extra help.

What a night! I woke up twice with leg cramps, front shin and toes, mostly my right leg. I don't know what was going on with that as it hasn't happened for a long time. I used to get them all the time. Then when I got up I got on the scale and have gained a pound and a half since yesterday. All I ate yesterday was two eggs, two pieces of toast and coffee for a late breakfast then I went to dinner with residents to Frosty's for their $2 hamburger night. I only had a hamburger, bun and topped with tomatoes, lettuce, red onions and a few sliced olives and a glass of iced tea, no sugar. Four of us split an order of onion rings. Then after I got home I had a dish of frozen yogurt.

My mission going to dinner was that my friend who just moved lives right down the street from Frosty's and I needed to deliver the microwave that I bought for her. Sam and Jeanette rode with me and we found Romona's duplex within walking distance from Frosty's. We didn't walk there because Jeanette has a bum knee from a motocycle accident many years ago. Anyway, Romona's apartment is very nice and airy with hardwood floors, two bedrooms, two baths and an air conditioner. Also a carport and shed for her washer and dryer. She doesn't have a car anymore because she gave it away to a lady at her church when she has to quit driving. It's a handicapped apartment with a shower in her bedroom bathroom. She is a little worried about the heat bill this winter after living in an apartment with low heat bills. I think she will be all right because it is a nice four-plex, well maintained. It is right across the street from the tiny mall so I hope she will walk over there often with her walker. She tends to sit back and lets other's do for her and she is only six years older than me but acts much older.

I would never have found Romona's place by myself. I had them show me the scenic route because I don't like the freeway even tho it is much faster. Our bus left after we did and got there just in front of us. Then coming home we left first and the bus had come and unloaded and gone when we got back. It's a nice drive and it isn't very far, lots of twists and turns and on a hill out of the flood zones. Now I hope I can remember the way.

Much cooler today and rain is expected. I'm going to the Farmer's Market downtown later on plus I have to get tabs for my car.

I'll try to check back in later.

Good Morning!

I am so impressed with the many heartfelt Spark People entries over the last days. I had signed off last Friday, but I'm back this morning after a wonderful few days. I had a friend in town, actually my best friend since High School came from CA and we spent the weekend together laughing and crying and catching up on life. I think I was actually an inspiration to her, as I talked about my personal goals to take care of my self this year.

In Michigan, as the fall approaches, it's one of the most beautiful times of the year. It also serves as an inspiration to "get started on something", like going back to school, start a eating program or join a gym. I feel the motivation stirring. I have an appointment on Thursday to join Curves. I bought new work-out shoes! Though I only maintained my weight over the weekend, rather than losing, I am pleased with my self, as we ate out in restaurants around the campus of the University of Michigan, where we both attended school. I practiced some self control.

So, after seeing that we all are having our challenges, I am trying to breath deep, slow down, be more mindful and deliberate about my pace. I was reminded yesterday when I was rushing into work, pulled over by Officer H...and got a speeding ticket. My first ever speeding ticket!

I hope you all have a great day....and I will be plugging along and also remembering that I have great support to encourage my efforts. And I'll remember to remind myself to "slow down" and breath. I don't have to be in a hurry anywhere, if I'm mindful to plan and use my time respectfully.

Thanks again for your presence out there across my world!

maryeka hope you are feeling better. I agree with bonnie--maybe a trip to the dr. would help?

DM keep going. You will get there

It is so hot, I am sitting here sweating in front of my computer. We are not supposed to use the a.c. b/c of last year's earthquake. It's so hot, I don't feel like doing anything No appetite.

Hi everybody. I still have not gotten on a scale, but at least I don't feel so bloated. I was much better over the weekend, in how much I ate, and maybe it'll all even out.
I saw this headline on yahoo news today about 6 things that help you lose weight successfully.
One of course was portion control, but most of the others were vitamin and mineral supplements. Here's the link http://health.yahoo.net/articles/weight-lo
ss/photos/burn-fat-fast-6-nutrients-fa
ster-weight-loss#0

I have very low vitamin D. So i take supplements. As I look back, I think I started to lose weight right around the time I started taking the supplements (at first it was 50,000 units every three days, and then after 6 weeks, it got cut back to 2000 international units). D helps you absorb calcium so there are lots of things that are interconnected. Maybe my metabolism speeded up when I started taking D. I know my energy level was better. That was the complaint that started it all. When the blood tests came back that my D level was 11, the doctor called me herself. I think I scared her. Usually I get the feeling that doctors only humor people when they come in with complaints. But she believed me that time.

Sorry to hear you are feeling badly and having a rough time. Have you been to the Dr with your cold? If you are still feeling bad, maybe a trip to the Dr would help some. I find that I get a viral infection, and when the virus is gone, I have gotten a bacterial infection. If that has happened to you, maybe an antibiotic would help. Hate to see you feeling badly and being discouraged. This too shall pass. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

MICHELE

Glad to know that you are paying attention to you now. Please don't treat my friend badly! Treat yourself well.

FIONA

Hope you are feeling better as well. emoticon emoticon emoticon

JULIE

OMG I am so sure that a broken nose hurts terribly emoticon emoticon

CAROL

Just wander right back over here!

ELIZA

A walk with the dogs and a teenager sounds great. Sometimes that is the only way to get a teenager to talk, I think, when they can pretend not to pay attention to you! Hope it was great.

I am exhausted and very sore tonight. My friend Amy and I went to Shipshewanna today. Shopping and walking. Had a nice lunch. It was a special chicken dinner from the Amish country, and it was way too much food. I ate part of it for lunch and brought the rest home for dinner. Did treat myself with a couple of Amish made cookies, so was over on Fat and calories today. My treat day!

I lost 1 pound this week, so I know I will be right back on track in the morning.

Have a great evening my friends

I've never had a broken nose, but I remember when my oldest was a baby, he was sitting on my lap facing away from me when he - all of a sudden - threw his head back, making a loud cracking sound as his head made contact with the bridge of my nose. I now know the meaning of the expression "seeing stars." Poor you with a broken nose. If mine hurt that much without a break, I can't imagine how bad it feels with one.

I'm not feeling particularly chipper today. My cough is getting to me. My work is frustrating. My lack of body change progress is frustrating me and the world is just annoying me today. How's that for a wrap up? ;-P

I wrote in my SP blog that I'm discouraged. Sigh.

Julie,
I can only imagine how painful a broken nose is. Hope you'll feel better very soon.

I'm with you on the idea of getting back on track. I let myself wander lately and I wasn't doing what I know I need to do.

Hope we all have a good week! emoticon

August update - my daughter come home from an 18 month mission trip and we went to the gym and got to playing around trying to do head stands and she kicked me in the face and broke my nose! I ran my half marathon two days later. Mostly I have been very busy and not doing all my work outs, not tracking my intake and not losing weight. I am ready to begin again. My blood pressure has been up and I really need to control my eating.

Here's to getting back on track.

Running is becoming a joy!

I've had a really busy weekended with my son's 21st. Had a lovely time with all the family.
Helped with a huge catering for 100 people today and now have a cold and blocked noise.
Have spent the afternoon in bed sleeping and now about to go there again. Just exhausted I think

Hi all Went to the eye dr. today, all is well with my eyes.

Bonnie the hot weather here usually lasts until the middle of Sept then we get a mini rainy season as the season changes. Can't wait!your frozen tomatos sound like a good idea! I may try it. I love gardening, & wish I could have one myself.

I haven't been on SP for a whole day & it is hard to catch up with all the chats. Hope all are well.

Bonnie --

Yes, it is a wonderful thing to awaken pain free. Thank you for the feedback on the use of the machines. All I have ever used are free weights, and manual labor (such as heavy landscaping and farm labor).

Marija --

I did look up Meetup for Frederick MD. There is a group for women 50+ in Frederick and two groups for adventure type activities. There were others, but those were the ones I noticed. I really did not look at them beyond the initial glance though.
