Tearose, I'm laughing, that was so funny (to me anyway).

Fiona, your husband is blessed to have you there for him --- god bless you.

Michele, I think being able to laugh at ourselves is a gift --- sometimes when things go terribly wrong while I am working on a project I will start to laugh and my husband just looks at me and says, how can you laugh at what just happened --- laugh or cry, laughing is better.

Maci, so happy things are going better for you -- so glad you are here.

Bonnie, I love to go to theater, but unfortunately there are none in this little town. When I lived in Denver there was a great dinner theater there. One of my favorite shows was
something is afoot. So funny.

God Bless our troops and their families. Blessings to all my Spark friends. Sammi

Michele if I didn't know Jesus and the strength I can have from Him I would have walked away years ago. It is hard and one time I just didn't want to go through all that happens when Hubby overdoses. I was going to just let him fade away.It was like (this is what he keeps wanting to do do I just let him succeed this time - part of it is my anger part of it is just seeing it all as too much for me to handle.)
But God led me to make a phone call, just one to a help desk (it was about 2.00am) and they took over.
I was at one of my weakest points.

God is my help and strength and I also know He has a great plan for hubby too.

Unfortunately for me eating became a comfort emoticon

bonnie, Maci & Fiona, thank you so much! I am feeling so much better. I thought I was alone with a grumpy husband. COme to find out I'm not! He is usually good.

Bonnie, the thing with the racoon had me laughing! Just what I needed today! I'M so glad you enjoyed your show!!!

Fiona, I also have a cousin in Detroit, Mi. who calls me regularly on the phone. She is married with no kids, & is schizophrenic. She has also tried to commit suicide several times, the last time (2 years ago) calling me just as we woke up here Tokyo time saying she was going to kill herself. It was a real suicide attempt & I managed to contact someone State-side to help her. It was only 5 a.m here when I had received the call---not a great way to wake up!!
She still calls me average 1x.week & is very negative. I just listen. She needs someone.
I can'T imagine living with that cross daily. You are so strong. But then we have Jesus, don'T we?

I got caught in a thunderstorm on my way home from grocery shopping this afternoon! The ice cream I bought for Tad (my husband) was saved! Needless to say I was soaked! I was in fits of laughter!

Thanks Sandi and I sure hope the needle aspirations will finish soon

I hope so too Bonnie. Glad the musical was a good night out and the lunch. You should try out the acting. It will be a load of fun just all the rehearsals and all. Sean Benjamin arrived on Saturday morning (2.06am) NZ time

Brenda Sean is number four and the third i that family. Glad you could fit the new recliner in your room and I am sure someone will have taken the old one.

Thanks Michele I hope the service was all you hoped it to be. I can so relate to how you feel Michele. My hubby suffers from a a mental illness and he has good and bad days. He suffers chronic depression and when it is at its extreme he has attempted suicide (over the last 20 years 6 times) and there are times when he is low and just sleeping, being rude at anything in general (Not so much me though) and I feel like finding that "Happily ever after" that is supposed to " be". I have learnt that it is up to me to find the Happiness so to speak in my own peace of mind because Hubby can't help having a mental illness (he had a brain haemorragh 27 years ago and this is way) so I can't just walk away as he lives me and I him. It doesn't stop me feeling sorry for myself when he/we go through a tough time.
I have sent a request on facebok I am "Fiona Van Lent"

Maci Fiona is fine The cherubs call me Mumsey. I have 4 grandies now too and I love it. I am terrible with left over cheesecake!!!

Marija,It sounds like it was lovely party.

Its been raining here and so I am waiting for a bit before I go out for a walk.
Not so cold though so that is nice.

Hi ladies and RW! great day today. ate good and had some good family time at church and at the pool. Than home for a nap and "hot in cincinatti" reruns. I love my netflix. It's my new toy, this month I watched the whole Brothers and Sisters series and cried like a baby at the end. I just love watching series to fill in the quiet times. My food choices are getting healthier by the day. Yeah! It's hard to believe just a few days ago I was writing you all, saying I just coundnt get one good day in. Thanks ladies!

For those who responded to Michelle,Great job! Yes, Michelle if we have a 90/10 relationship that is still an A! At church today I met the preachers wife today, (now he is a fun and funny guy) I said to her "It must be so much fun being married to him!" she just looked at me and said "there are "some" fun times, he is my husband though!" We both laughed because we both knew exactly what she was saying. The ol' 90/10! What I do sometimes when my hubs seems to be in 'a mood' is say to myself "I choose to be happy" when I do this, it is just like watching him have a temper tantrum. It doesn't effect me. I am able to stay in a loving place. Do you remember when I told you all my hubs brought me chz cake in bed and made me bkfst. If that was a common occurance I wouldn't have noticed! thought to ponder!

I told my hubs how so many of you were flying flags or wearing your R/W/Blue and he said to tell you "Thank you!" He is a vet. It means alot to him when he sees others appreciate his service and the service of others.

*Bonnie you show sounded like so much fun. How lucky you are to be able to stage manage the next one. Sounds like you have a great group of friends. You are one lucky women!

We are all really lucky women, we have time to post, friends to post to, and all seem to notice the good things in life. Life is good, sometimes you just have to slow down, look around and notice! That's my motto! Do I always do it, NOWay! but I try to keep a positive outlook and if I just don't want to bother, netflix is a great release!!! Hope you are all having a great wkend!

Glad to know your little one's birthday party was a success! Such fun.

MICHELLE

Don't ever feel embarrassed about venting here. Please remember that this is a judgement free zone. I feel so comfortable talking about anything, because I have NEVER in the years I have been on this thread seen anyone make judgements on what someone says. I have only seen support, concern, caring and kind words, some ideas to try to help, that sort of thing.

Actually, I am proud to be part of a group of people who behave in this manner. It is a place of refuge. I feel blessed to have all of you.

Had a lovely day at my cousin's house. Was supposed to be sooo hot, but something changed. It was very windy, and much cooler that the 95 degrees we were warned of. The kids had a great time, running and playing and we sat in the shade and visited. Good.

The funny thing that happened was that it was so windy it blew a raccoon right out of his nest in a tree between the house next door and my cousin's house. One of the kids said, "see the kitty". Such a tough way for the poor guy to wake up! It was really quite a fall, he was limping as he walked away. We were all pretty shocked.

SAMMI

I will have to remember about the salmon at the Olive Garden. I really enjoy good salmon, but don't order it very often because it is quite expensive if it is not good.

Also really love Ahi tuna. Same thing, expensive also.

Why can't I like fake crab meat? Actually think that is one of the nastiest foods ever, but it is cheap.

FIONA

I seem to have missed an announcement about a new grandbaby, probably on one of those days I was so tired I was brain dead! Anyway, congratulations on your happy news..

BRENDA

Good news that you have been able to save money! The funny thing is that in most cases, I am pretty frugal as well. However, when you own, along with the bank, a home that is 95 years old, that is where all of your money goes! Glad I love living here.

Once upon a time, you could count money spent in a home as an investment. Not so much anymore. My neighborhood has deteriorated over the years, so that is kind of tough. However, my neighbors are all very good to me. I have a twenty something year old boy on one side, with a 17 and a 7 year old brother, on the other side, two teenage girls, and an 18 years old boy who is graduating high school on Weds. All of these children are very respectful and kind to me. They speak to me, and tell me things about their lives, etc. One day the 23 year old came over and sat on the enclosed front porch just to visit with me. I find this remarkable. I feel pretty lucky about that. They all have my back as well. That part is a good feeling.

I guess, this is one of life's tradeoffs. I pray that these neighbors don't move, but they are all renters, so you never know. Mostly they have been her for quite awhile.

Well, I am doing my rambling thing, again, so I will stop now and say goodnight. Have had a good weekend, but did not sleep a lot either of the last two nights, so I am pretty tired tonight.

God Bless my friends.

Sammi & Tearose, thank you., Just the input I need to hear. I have been told over & over again how strong I am. I guess I just can't see it! (my cataracts don't help much either LOL!)
My marriage is good 90% of the time. It'S the other 10% I feel like a flower wilting in the extreme summer heat! I back off much more easily than he does. It is hard for me to be/stay mad more than 1/2 a day! It is much easier for me to be postive & happy.
thank you, dear friends.
On a more pleasant note, my swimmng this morning was great!

Maryja I would have love to have seen your party!!

For the rest of you out there, I do have a facebook site that I rarely use, under thename "Michele Kobayashi". My daughter has posted lots of pics. of myself & my family since I don't know how to do such things

Hi Every one, Another busy day but great. Early am made 2 salads for Grandson's first BD, went to church, went to pick up baloons, went to daughter's house to help her get ready for day. Party. Great time had by all.. I think my grandson knew it was for him, he toddled everywhere like a little automaton, traditional hand in his slice of cake, so we could get pictures. Just got home. Good night....see you tomorrow

Aw Michele,
Don't beat yourself up ! Moods are moods. It is difficult to be around someone who has so much negative energy. And Harder to stay positive for yourself/ family. I've had to shut down the madness a few times and say what I feel to end the torture. ( and I know it feels like torture after a while) State what you feel and let it go... maybe go shopping, walking or for coffee/tea somewhere and BREATHE! don't let the toxic waste in the air ruin your day ( or your marriage)
Love conquers all. Keep that sparkin chin up! emoticon

Michele, I had to smile when I read your post --- we have those days too --- my hubby and I are both strong willed -- it's a good thing we didn't meet when we were younger --- it would never have worked. Most of the time we know when to meet half way and we don't always agree which makes him crazy. When you are together for a long time it is the strength you give each other -- the support when one needs the other --- I know the feeling of some days wondering why I'm not single. When it's good 90% of the time it's good. I've seen too many people who seem to never be happy with each other. Happily ever after can be bumpy, but it's worth the effort. Would love to meet you some day. You are very strong. God Bless. Sammi

Hello all . I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. MEmorial day always meant picnics for me, too.

Brenda, congrats! on your new move 1 year ago! I also grew up with a family who was very thrifty.

Sammi, I love the Olive Garden! One of my favorite places to eat.

My weekend was not good. My husband, as loving as he is, was in another one of those "bad moods". I am told it is male menopause, stress related ;he is the head of the plumbing Co. that he took over from his dad.He has a lot of responsiblity teaching our oldest son Ben who has also entered the Co. & is a plumber, watching out for my daughter Annie & trying to take care of me, although I can pretty much manage for myself. I guess after nearly 27 years of being married I thought married was supposed to "happily ever after" & that is not always the case with us. He is a very loving kind, gentle man, but when he gets into one of these "moods" he is so negative & really hard to be around! Makes me wish I wasn't married at all, & I told him so yesterday, although I know I shouldn't have said it. I get really frustrated sometimes with him. Can't figure it out.
I am really embarassed to say all of this to all of you. thanks for listening.

Bonnie, yes time flies. The best part is I have $2000 saved so the trade off with moving and downsizing is I am not destitute like I was there. I am still very careful what I spend my money on. Old habits are hard to break but I don't think I want to break this one. emoticon

Growing up I didn't even know about Memorial Day except it was a time for picnic's. I knew about the war because we had a Colliers book with graphic pictures that I used to look at all the time. I am a war baby, born in '42. We never had much growing up so thrift just sticks with a person.

Have a great day. emoticon

Thank you for your service to our countryl

I too remember going to the graves when I was a child. We children just ran around while the adults visited, I don't think they had to pull weeds though.

Actually some of my family will be going to the gravesites of my aunts and uncles at 1:00pm I do not go because the walking on the uneven ground is so hard on my back. Will be meeting them at my cousin's house at 2:00pm for a family pot luck.

Brenda, hard to believe you have been there for a year! WOW

Enjoy your day today my friends.

I spent all day yesterday watching war movies on AMC in celebration of Memorial Day. Ruth, my neighbor gave me some Swiss Chard from her garden box downstairs and I really liked it, never had it before. I just steamed it and drizzled lemon juice over it. I thought it tasted like beet greens. I ended up eating all of it, about two cups cooked and only about 70 calories. I made Chef Meg's Salsa Turkey burgers, added an egg to hold the patty together and they are pretty good although a bit dry. They would be better mixed with chopped apple or maybe just applesauce on top for moisture. There's four patties leftover for the freezer.

This is the first year of many that I haven't been able to fly my flag. When I moved here I gave it to Steve's grandson. They helped me move. I miss not having a balcony for my flag. I'm wearing red, white and blue and my flag pin all weekend instead. No BBQ here today, just the normal potluck at 1 but I'm not going. I need to know what is in the food I eat. Mostly there are lots of desserts that I avoid at all costs.

June 1st is my one year anniversary living here. It was a good decision.

As kids, every year on Memorial Day, I remember going to the cemetary with mom and dad to put flowers on the graves of family members.
Not missing that much now.
I fly the flag proudly in remembrance of all the fellow servicemen who died for my country.
God bless us all emoticon

Good Morning --- it's a lovely morning --- wondering where hurricane Beryle is going. We do need the rain, but hoping she doesn't do any damage.
We had lunch yesterday at Olive Garden -- they have some of the best salmon I've ever eaten. It's my favorite when we eat there. Comes with a salad and broccoli --- delicious.
Congrats Fiona -- I love the name -- we have a grandson named Benjamin.
My father was in Korea when I was born -- he didn't see me til I was almost a year old. When I was about five or six I remember seeing his purple heart in his sock drawer when mom was putting the laundry away. He never spoke about his time in Korea. Blessings to our troops. Sammi

So cool that you got a new chair that fits you! What a great find. Hope you back is ok!

Thanks MICHELLE I do the same for you!

SANDI

Glad you are better. I am sure it is a real annoyance, and probably quite uncomfortable to have to have your neck drained. Prayers it will heal faster, and faster.

MACI

Glad you are finding your way back and learning those lessons. Glad you have such a great husband as well.

I went to the Village Players theater to see "title of show". That was the name, and it was so funny and the music was great. My friend Directed it, and 3 of the 4 actors are friends of mine. It is a show of two people writing a show. Pretty funny concept. Difficult to explain, but just plan fun. It was a great pick me up for me. All 4 of the cast members could sing well, and there was a piano player on the stage who was part of the show.. Very entertaining.

I laughed so much. My friend Jake played a character who is so much like Jake, that I swore they wrote the part for him. I was in the audience laughing at stuff that the rest of the audience did not get, but was so funny to me because it was so "JAKE". They all probably thought I was plain crazy.

This is one of the two community theaters in the city of Toledo, there are others in small communities outside of the city. The Village and The Toledo Rep. When I was still doing theater, these were the theaters I worked at. It has been a long time since I have worked a show.

My friend Nancy is supposed to direct a show at the Village that goes up in November, and I am supposed to stage manage for her, but it is possible that she may move out of state, so that is kind of up in the air.

Won't have to get up early any mornings because all 4 kids will be in school in the fall, so if I am out late it shouldn't be such a big deal. Of course if the kids are sick or off school, but I am pretty sure I will be able to handle it, it it works out.

Not sure if I will do the show if she doesn't direct. We have worked together in the past and work very well together, so I am hesitant to do my first show back with someone I don't necessarily trust. We will see.

Well, I see it is 11:41pm, and I am no way ready to go to bed. That is the problem with me being out at night, I want to stay up when I get home.

Have a great day tomorrow, my friends, and God Bless and prayers.

Hi Ladies and RW! I loved the joke today! Hubs is out getting some car parts and I just can't wait to share it with him. I was sitting here laughing , the chzcake made it through the night, this morn hubs wakes me up with it on a plate and brings it to me in bed. Now I know this is a complete act of love, I just had to laugh, as I was eating it hubs and my gson blake cooked a big bkfst for me too. Boy am I one lucky women. No wonder I am chubby!!! So I decided to make a nice plate of bkfst, (no HB) enjoy my chz cake and made my cals frount loaded today. Have had only fruit since , my DD is making baked chicken for dinner and I will still be w/i cals if I eat sensibly at dinner tonight. (the plan) What is neat is that I am making choices instead of the food choosing me and me stuffing food aimlessly. Havent gone outside for ex the last 2 days but did do some situps to TV last night. Will do the same tonight. I usually play tennis M-F, 2 hrs a day.
*Michelle- NIce to be going to a new church, let us know if it was your style! Sorry about your children story. That is really tough at times I am sure. I lost a bro when I was 6 and I still think about him.
*Mums (Fiona) which to to prefer to be called? Wow a new georgeous gson! How lucky are you! I have 4 gkids all around me, one on the way. Life is sure lucky!
*Sammi- Love seeing your smile!
*RW- I was so happy to see you post a joke, I wasnt' sure you were still around. Yeah!
*Bonnie- Have a great time at the play. I just love musicals. Which one are you seeing? Thanks for reminding us about our chicken choices,
*Sandi- 12 flats of impatients, geraniums, and vinca vines. Your yard must be beautiful! I love all those flowers. My hubs laughs because I call any fruit or flowers in my yard, my babies! I will say "Jim did you see all the babies on our apricot tree?" he just laughs and secretly I "hate" it when kids pick my flowers, fruit, I just smile and say "thank you I love it" when they bring me one. Than I say "the rule at gmas home is One flower/fruit off the tree per day, so pick wisely" teehee. I guess we all have our quirks!

What I have learned in life, it's not what you feel inside, it's what you do that matters! That goes for eating, treating others right, cleaning the house, and being just a kind loving caring person. Most the time we fit our actions but when we dont fake it till you make it! That way you dont have to make up for bad actions later. Now, That's my Dr Phil moment of the day! Happy Mem day all!!!

Hi Michelle. My neck is improving slowly, but I still have to go once or twice a week for needle aspirations until it is completely clear. The weather her has been absolutely beautiful - in he 70's and sunny. Finished putting in all of my 12 flats of impatiens. Really tired - but my yard looks beautiful. Added some large pots of geraniums with vinca vine and to hanging baskets of a very pretty geranium hybrid. I'll be spending a lot of time outside enjoying my hard work for the next 4 months.

Brenda, who are "Sam & John"? good for you for making good choices!

Bonnie, I keep you in my prayers, I also pray for patience!

RW thank you for the joke. It made my morning!

Fiona, congratulations! My oldest son's name is also Ben (not Benjamin) & I like the name.

Hello Sammi. Hope you had a good weekend.

It is Sunday here, & I am going to a new church that atually LOOKS LIKE a church, not one of those modern buildings. I am so thrilled to have found one. Most of the Catholic churchers here are either too far from me or too modern.

Blessings all!

Congratulations, Mumsey! Sean Benjamin, what a manly name for the little guy. What number is he in the line of grandchildren?

Sam called me yesterday afternoon and asked if I wanted a recliner chair because Earl, who she cleans for, had an extra one and didn't want it because it is too small for him. Last time he sat in it he fell out of it trying to stand up because it is too low. I cleared out the back of my Jeep and went over to get it and it fit perfectly. I was able to unload it by myself and put it on my luggage cart and got it up to my apartment. It fit through my door but I had to unload and move the bookshelf in the hall to get the old one out. I had to ask John to help me get it downstairs into the TV room. I put a free sign on it. It probably won't stay there too long. The manager said I could store it there temporarily. My back is complaining a little bit this morning.

Maci, glad to hear you had a nice dinner and made good choices and I hope the cheesecake made it through the night. emoticon My downfall is a pumpkin pie. If one is sitting on the counter I will have a little sliver (because that doesn't count in my pea brain) and pretty soon the whole thing is gone. So I avoid them at all costs.

Lynn, you will find that small things will set you off and all the memories will flood in but that's all right. You are a survivor so go with the flow, have a good cry and do what you can. Post often. We care.
emoticon

Yesterday I was going to go to the store and buy the fried chicken that is on sale until I checked the nutrition tracker and got a big shock. So I have changed my menu to bake my boneless chicken breasts breaded with cornflakes to get the crunch.

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Enjoy your great weekend, and thanks for stopping by with a good laugh great way to begin the day.

Am going to the theater tonight to see some friends in a musical, so I am sure that will be good entertainment for me. Going to my cousins tomorrow for a potluck with other family. Other than that, just going to take it easy for the weekend.

After my adjustment yesterday, my back has been better. I am encouraged. I still have to remind myself that Dr Mike said I will get better, I am, but it won't be in my timeframe. PATIENCE once again. Have to keep reminding me!

MICHELLE

I am sure having lost two children is something that will always be with you. God Bless.

LYNN

Still sending prayers for you for peace and serenity. God bless and send you some release from your pain.

MACI

Lessons learned. One small victory, or in the case of cheesecake, on LARGE victory at a time.

FIONA

Hope your Dr can find someone to help you to address your physical issues. Wish that I had been aware of mine when I was taking physical therapy after the surgery. I will figure it out with some help!

Have a wonderful holiday weekend for those of us in the states, and for the rest have a great regular weekend!

God Bless my friends.

Good morning team emoticon

The weekend is looking pretty good for us in Florida, I hope yours is too wherever you are. I've got a free weekend ...no special plans except perhaps an outdoor BBQ .or see a parade.

I saw this joke and got a lttle chuckle;

Several expectant couples were gathered at the local hospital to attend a childbirth class.

The instructor offered advice and explained the benefits of exercise.

“Ladies, exercise is good for you. Walking is especially beneficial. And, gentlemen, it wouldn’t hurt you to take the time to go walking with your partner!”

The room really got quiet.

Finally, a man in the middle of the group raised his hand.

“Yes?” replied the instructor.

“Is it alright if she carries a golf bag while we walk?”

Good Morning -- on my first cup of coffee. It's been hot for this time of year --- supposed to be some rain coming our way tomorrow and the temps should go back to where they belong. Lynn, it's three years since I lost my mom and over 25 since I lost my first husband --- as Michele said in her post, a song, a scene, a scent will still bring tears. Keeping busy and surrounding yourself with people you enjoy is exactly what you need and you are doing. It's more then ok to weep for loved ones. Do remember to smile too when you are counting all the happy memories.

Way to go Maci.
Have a wonderful weekend Sparklers. Blessings, Sammi

Brenda we had the same report on the news over here too. A varied good diet is really the answer to everything.

"M" remember that if you are exercising the size will go down but that muscle is heavier than fat.

Sandi it is olvey to get out into the garden and enjoy the newness of plantings

Michelle the muffins were yummy.I will post the recipe on my blog tomorrow probably. They had a lovely fluffiness about them and the little dollop of cream cheese was delish emoticon

Bonnie I hear you.
I actually noticed that when I step it is slightly turned out too. As I tried to walk with it straight in front it was a bit sore so I will have to try to walk properly and maybe take note of all the issue and talk to the doctor and she may refer me to a specialist that can help with it all.
I don't ask for patience

Marija welcome home and glad you had a good vocation. You might have to pretend to be living on vocation all the time maybe!!

Tearose sounds like you have a nice place to work and that you all get on well.

Linn hope you had a wodnerful dinner out and glad you could have Memorabilia day in style.

Oh Lyn that wasn't good to have two lost friends. Glad you have popped in to let us know. Remember we are here to cheer you on.

Well I can announce that our fourth grandchild has been born.
Sean Benjamin arrived at 2.06am Saturday 26 May weighing 7lb 6 oz and was 11 days over due.. Went up to see them and they are all doing well if not a little tired.
He is gorgeous.

Didn't get any exercise in today

Lynn so sorry to hear about Maggie! Nearly 12 years ago, I lost our #5 baby at 11 weeks---we had pictures, I could see our child on the ultrasound. This was after having 3 (My daughter was a twin who also had died at birth) healthy children. I sometimes look at these picx. of baby # 5. Just when I think I'm ok too, something triggers me to tears even now-- a song, another baby, etc You are not alone in your feelings. Please let me or anyone of us know how you are feeling; we care an awful lot!

Maci, you are making miracles!

Tomorrow, sunday is church. I'm going to a new japanese church. It is a very old church & reminds me of some of the churches I have seen in Europe. Really looking forward to it!

have a nice weekend, all!

Woah. I almost finished posting than hit something and poof! my post went away. Now I am short of time. so here goes again. Lynn- sorry to hear about your loss. What I know is that if I am face first in the food not only does life feel hard, I feel like a mess too. When I eat well and exercise than only lifes hardships are the problem. I can face them better. Good luck.
My date night went fab. My hubs looked so cute and smelled good too, I ate like a reg person, brought most my food home (we told the waitress we were bringing it home for our daughter) It made us not feel so cheep! teehee. Plus she said Awwww. The most amazing thing happened tonight, I brought home 3/4 of my chzcake. Hoping that when I got home and put in my cals that I could eat the rest, and opps I was over cals by 100. So i put it in the fridge and am waiting till tomm. (now that is not only a first but a miracle) IF it makes it till tomm (which is the plan) I will feel like a million bucks! It will feel like I have jumped a huge hurdle. Maybe with alittle practice jumps like this, someday I will be able to do this w/o such drama. Thank you my spark friends for igniting the spark inside me again. I am excited to do better today. I think I may even do some situps tonight while watching our shows. Life is good!

Sorry to hear of your loss Sunni! I had a amazon parrot for about 10 yrs. We lost him to kidney failure ( many year ago now). he was a "one person bird" ~ I was his primary care giver. ... It was awful and came a 5 -6yrs after I lost my brother to leukemia ~ flood waters opened!
Hope it helps to know you are not alone in your grief. These things sometimes have a way of opening wounds , unexpectedly . And bring up festering emotions that we've put away for a spell.
I still haven't learned NOT to stuff down the stress with food! I can only put the breaks on it and let it go. tomorrow is a new day. Hang in there. emoticon

Hi All,

I have been gone for a few weeks. I have been having a hard time since Maggie (my cockapoo) died. I thought I was doing pretty good after Kirk died, but Maggie dying opened the floodgates. I need to get back on the wagon since I have fallen off again. I will try to be better at posting. I did go back and read all the posts. Have a great holiday weekend, Lynn

Bonnie, you call yourself bossy but it may just be that you are more of a leader-type of person. I am not an agressive person, like when someone elsse takes charge, & offers advice. I agree with you about the kind of walking we do, & how we have to change it. Your advice are just words of wisdom!! Very much needed!

Tearose & marij, just get back on track today. Think of only today, this moment. That's all you have!

Maci, hope you had a great time at your dinner! How wonderful that you won those tickets! I hope your eating was successful for you. One moment at a time, girl!

I'm going to buy azeala bushes (I don't think I spelled that one right) for my front yard. I'll be ridingmy bike for 1/2 hour or so, there is my exercise for today.

Hi girls the curlers are heating up, I have just a minute to post, wanted to do it before I left for our dinner date to reconfirm my goal. To stay w/i cal limit. This morn every single plan I had changed. No tennisor team lunch, rain out. Gdaughter didn't go to school and I ended up watching her, hubs came home early and l completly forgot to go to my massage. So what does this do to me. hummm ate alittle sporatically this morn. for about 30 min.(a blur) Off sched, off mindful eating. Made up in the afternoon but tonight want to finish the night off right. My goal is to "one plate it" each section of dinner. NO seconds, grazing till the next dish etc. We won a dinner for two at a country club (at a superbowl sunday bowling day!) so this is a great Mem day date treat for hubs and i. I will post in my success later! wish me a great time w/good luck on my goal! Happy Mem day all, my hubs is a retired Marine corp Warrent Officer. We celebrate this holiday in style!

Hi Everyone! Happy Memorial Day !! Have fun and be safe !
Fiona~ I'm cracking up with a vision of Jane Fonda in leopard tights! Doesn't matter what gets us moving.. as long as we try! I'll have you know , my legs are killing me! good thing I only did 15 minutes of the power walk video! Otherwise there would be no walk, much less Power!
girls at work were laughing at me! (trying to sit) whispering " now there's a reason to exercise.... we could look like that when we try to sit!" so funny they are.... My boss says it's much too dangerous for her! ( she says that about cooking , too)
Sometimes we do more laughing... it doesn't feel like work!
Anyway, I've been" slacking in the tracking" also Maci , so that's what Im going to work on! I do manage to read all these wonderful posts. I don't always remember who says what, but I do look forward to it and appreciate all the support as well! you guys are awesome!

Hi Everyone, I am back from West Virginia and have to catch up on what's happening with you. Strangely, I never have a problem when I am on vacation, then I get home and my routine is so out of wack, my grand daughter is sick and I have to catch up on chores and things and any weight I lost on vacation comes rushing back! And I had been doing so well....New Resolution - Start my returns by posting here.
Anyway, cheers to all, I was thinking of you on vacation. Marija

Glad you had one good day! Go girl. With your exercise, you will be great.

MICHELLE

That stinks!

FIONA

I noticed that you said you did your walk and were limping. This may not ever be an issue for you, but I will tell you that one of the reasons I am having so much trouble even after having a back fusion, is the bad ways I was walking because of the crooked back.

I am getting better, but very slowly. I was great right after surgery, because I wasn't doing much of anything but healing.

When I began to think that I could do stuff again, I did too much, and was doing it with a straight back, but still swinging my left leg, still pushing my backside out, still doing all of the stuff that is affecting my physical structure, that I was doing to compensate for the back.

Just mentioning this because if you are limping when you walk, maybe you should try to be aware of what you are doing with your structure. I am definitely bossy, sorry, but thought I would mention this to you so that if you are aware, you can avoid other painful issues!

Plus, I can't tell you how difficult it is to try to change the way you walk and have walked for many years! Geez, it is a pain.

Went to Dr mike today, had an adjustment, and he and I can both tell that I am better. Patience and time.

I said right after my surgery that God was trying to teach me patience, but boy, I am finding that he is really serious!

Have a great weekend all, and God Bless.

Bonnie

Hello everyone, Wow! People have busy busy. emoticon
I agree if you track your food intake every day it helps you look at what you are eating. It enabled me to start modifying what I ate...healthy instead of junk. LOL
As for the scale I just bought one...first one ever I think. Anywho I weigh myself every Sunday, it's funny the scale doesn't seem to be moving but my clothes are getting a whole lot looser. emoticon

Re: Taking notes about the posts. An easier way is to just open a new window and then you can flip back and forth to reply to individuals. I find it very difficult to read the posts and then try to remember what everyone said, plus remember the names.

Michelle, sorry to hear you wasted a half day trying to get confirmed and then to deal with the disappointment and stress of having to wait another month. It seems that rules change at a moments notice. I hate it when all the information is not posted so you have all the paperwork you need to get the deed done. Better luck next time!

MACI, it doesn't matter what time you eat, it matters how many calories you consume but they have to be healthy ones! and stay within your limit for the day. I track every bite. Chewing Extra! gum helps me not eat sweets when I think I want them. They have all the dessert flavors and I keep a good supply on hand, in my pocket, purse and car.

Remember, "You are what you eat". I have trouble eating enough protein, calcium and carbs so am working on that. A news report came out yesterday that says taking calcium supplements may cause heart disease. Next week it will be something else so we just need to eat a varied colored diet everyday. the brighter the food, the better it is for us. Healthy choices is what it is all about.

Hi RW nice to see you popping in

Tearose I got a couple of my old videos out the other day to see what I had to take me through the winter months. Its doesn't matter that Jane Fonda was in high leotards in a leopard skin and they all had poffy hair and leg warmers!!! the exercises will still burn some calories and keep me trim

Bonnie this is such a great attitude.
"That is a lesson I have learned, I am not "bad" or 'good", I am just a woman doing the best that I can. That is why one day at a time is so important to me, because then I don't stay away until I am perfect." one we can all earn from.

Best of luck DG, and let us know how you go.

Michele don't you hate the red tape

Maci love the attitude you now have - good on you.

Managed my walk today. Did 4.56 km in 52 minutes and some of it was a very fast walk almost jog. I sort of did it with a bit of a limp and it wasn't too painful
It rained later but by then I was home and then went to a friends on a small farm block and came home with cows milk, duck eggs, home made cream cheese, some lemons and mandarins and some silverbeet and sage.
What a blessing and I only went to chat about an email she had sent as she was a bit upset about something that happen at the book club we go to.

Made some lemon cheese cream muffins for a plate I have to take tomorrow

Oh Ladies you are all so awesome! I used to take notes and respond to all but today my goal is to just log on, listen and post. Good news is that I actually logged in my cals & ex. I would of never done that if I didn't make this commitment. Thank you all for sending me all your hellos and brilliant ideas!!! Tonight I am hungry but w/i cals, and have a plan if I feel like straying. Thats big news for me! I wrote my foods eaten today in a mini notebook in my purse. and made a plan to not eat after 8. Done!!! It actually feels good. Won my league match (which gave me 1.5 hrs fitness minutes) I have to tell you it is so embarrasing how much more I am laboring to play with the added wt. The most important thing is that I am still doing it! Fam crap is still around but I am going to have to find a better way to deal. I have a motto I used at the end of last yr, it stopped the wt gain...l am to blessed to be stressed and to rich to b****! Time to add "to Neat to overeat!" anyone have a better one? Off to bed. Thanks for listening!!

Fiona hope you had a good day!

RW we coulduse a good joke over here to break up the seriousness of all of us!

Bonnie, such words of wisdom! You are such a dear! thank you!

DG love your new ticker! The kids & I saw turtles in the park this past Wed. when I was teaching volunteer English. We love turtles!

I wasn't able to get my "residency " status today; the process doesn't start until July & just because I didn't have my old passport with me (only carried the current one) they wouldn'T help me! Typical gov't business! I am a little frustrated over spending a half a day trying to get this status, but I will carry on & try again in July!

Just changed my tickler to a turtle. 4 weeks without losing a pound. I'll go back to the flower when I can break this plateau. Tomorrow I'm going to start writing down everything I eat, again. That's one thing that changed a month ago. May have something to do with it. I remember passing up snacks because I didn't want to have to record it. Wish me luck.

BFERREL

Welcome. Glad to have you.

MACI

Good to have you back. Best thing I can tell you is forget about the gained weight, and don't punish yourself. Life is just like that. I just keep telling myself, and anyone else who will listen that, it is not how many times you fall down, it is that you get up one more time than you fall!

One day at a time, one small change at a time. Take it easy on yourself. It is difficult to come back from that fall by making yourself try to be perfect. If eating fruit is the first thing you want to work on, eat some fruit, if you would like to eat more veggies, try that.

I know how you love your tennis, do that. All or any of these things will bring you back around, if you are patient and loving to you. And you do know that no matter what, posting and being on the threads helps always.

I am having a very difficult time, physically, and emotionally, but, I am here every day if I can do it. It is the only thing that is keeping me sane during a tough time. I need to be here. I remember when I did other "diet" programs, WW, etc. that if I was have a "bad" period, I stayed away, thinking I would go back when I was "good" again. Yea, that worked well. NOT.

That is a lesson I have learned, I am not "bad" or 'good", I am just a woman doing the best that I can. That is why one day at a time is so important to me, because then I don't stay away until I am perfect.

SANDI

I am so happy to hear that you are doing so much better. I know you have and are still having a tough time as well. Keep on healing.

I am pretty tired after my three full days with the kids, so I will end now.

Just want to say God Bless and Prayers for all of you.

MICHELLE

I agree about the worrying about things we cannot change. We must just live today.

Congrats on your "new" status!
