Surgery is over and I am home recuperating. I have a pretty high pain threshold - but this one is not easy. Saw my surgeon today and she said they were able to preserve the facial nerve and most of the parotid gland. The biopsy was benign. So it will take time to recover. Can't sit at the computer to long as it gets too painful.

I am new to this forum too, but Lynn your story really pulled at my heart strings - for a reason I will explain. Last Thanksgiving eve, our family came home from church to find that our oldest and most beloved "Meggie" - chocolate lab, was missing. We called for her and soon realized that she had drown in a pond on our property. The ice was too thin and she had hip dysplasia. She was the dog who was raised with our two boys when they were little. It still breaks my heart that we lost her to a drowning.

Life is can be tough - I am sorry for losses. Talk to people, find people who make you laugh - exercise - cry!

I’m new to this discussion, I have been following it for a few days everyone is so friendly and supportive of one another.

Lynn, I feel so sad for you, I can only imagine how you feel. Losing a beloved pet is like loosing a child and best friend all in one. In the past few years I have lost my little dog, and some of my best friends, the missing them never goes away, but the pain lessens when I remember the good times that we had together. In time, you will be able to focus on the good times and celebrate her life.

Fiona, sorry to hear of your illness. I also have an autoimmune liver disease, it’s called PBC, and I have had it for 30 years. The best thing you can do for yourself is eat a healthy diet and get exercise, so you are on the right track.

All of you are a true gift,

Lynn, I am crying for you too. Such loss...hang in there, and know that all your spark friends are thinking of you.

Fiona, amazing that we can communicate as well as we do what with the different terms we all use for the same things :) I am sure your DD was amazing!

Mary, my DD not only was able to live her dream, but she did it the whole way through with 2 guy friends...from elementary school through college. They clogged their way through together :)

Hoping everyone has a great week....

Lynn, My heart is aching for you for Maggie's death. When my husband had his stroke and I had to move I was able to find homes for the two dogs but I had to take the cats to the Humane Society. They were four years old, sisters, and I thought my heart would break on the drive over and back. I just hope they were able to find homes for them. At that point I didn't know where I was going or what I was going to do because I couldn't stay in the rental house and pay the rent and utilities. I still miss my cats but I don't want anymore animals.

I am glad you were with Maggie at the end. Do they know what happened?

Take care and keep in touch as you can.

Hi Su commented on the other team, have a great trip.

Mary hoe wonderful you will have a spark friend meet up. Did you enjoy the water aerobics?

Lovely pic, (and lovely daughter) RW

Oh Lynne I am crying for you. How horrid words can not give you comfort.
That is so amazing that your beautiful Maggie died at the same time as kirk. She so wanted to be with you and she did really right there on you lap. How special that wound have been for her; you were there right to the end.
Be oh so gentle on yourself over the next few days/weeks. She is not just a pet but a beautiful friend that didn't ask for anything but gave you so much. Some people don't understand the relationship between pets and their owners but I do. Just know that from me way over the seas in little New Zealand you have a spark friend that will pray and think of you so much over the days.

Off to work and lost of housework when I get home.
I plan for a walk and am starting to add a little bit of running into it which I never thought I would be able to do so I know that my fitness has come on in leaps and bounds, if you pardon the expression emoticon

Have a great day one and all. emoticon

Hi All,

Yesterday I went to a widow's retreat. It was good. When I got home Maggie was kind of quiet. I went out for pizza with one of the widows and when I came home at 10pm Maggie was acting funny. She wouldn't lay down and she was breathing in short little breaths. I called a 24 hour animal hospital and they said bring her in. It was a 40 min drive. She was in the passenger seat. I got about 1 block from the clinic and she climbed into my lap. I gave her a hug and told her I loved her. She let go a big breath and I felt something warm and wet on my thigh. I told her I couldn't drive with her on my lap and put her back in the passenger seat. When I lifted her she was like a rag doll. I went running into the clinic and they took Maggie right back. I could see then that she was bleeding from her mouth. The asked if they should resuscitate. I said no. She didn't have a heartbeat and they said she was only breathing once in a while from reflexes. So, my sweet Maggie went to be with Kirk. She died on Sat night (Sun am really) at 12:40am the same time and day that Kirk died. My daughter had to come and get me....I couldn't even drive. I guess I just can't get a break. I don't have much else to lose. I wanted to tell you because I am sure many of you remember Maggie and her broken leg from 4 years ago. I just want my old life back with Kirk and Maggie.

Happy Sunday to everyone! I went to a locally owned garden store and bought a few tomato plants and hibiscus yesterday, replanted old pot plants and put the new ones in. I'll get some bedding plants today, maybe. I had my new swimsuit arrive from swimandsweat.com---so I'll go to water aerobics this afternoon. I joined the 28 day spring bootcamp, too.

Only 4 weeks left of school with many activities, but it will go by quickly. I have 4 Spark friends coming for a 3 day visit in early June and need to get ready for that, too!

Hope you all have a wonderful week!

It was a little chilly today, overcast and cloudy but no rain. I went to Walmart for yarn and a few groceries this afternoon and found three people I haven't seen for a while so it was just like old home week.

Not much going on around here other than the card players in the community room downstairs. I've been entering my food in the nutrition tracker and it's actually kind of fun. An eye opener, really so it makes me stop and think before I eat something extra.Yesterday I didn't even eat enough but I was full. I think my stomach shrunk, or is that an old wives tale?

I've been reading all the posts and it's good that most everyone is doing well, sending prayers to all who need them.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

It's a beautiful morning the sun just peeked over the fresh snow covered mountain top.
It's going to be a great day to be outside and do some dutch oven cooking by the campfire this evening with friends, Onion Pie and Cajun Jambalaya.

Enjoy

Oh Sammi, thank you for that. I read it somewhere awhile ago too and just needed to hear it again.

Thank you Mary for your thoughts too. It is nice to know others will be praying for me.

Dusty thank you for your post It sure makes you stop and think how fortunate we all are when life just goes along for us and we don't stop to say Thank you " for it.

I have had a very busy morning .
I was up early and made some muffins and coco pop square, then down to our monthly community get together. I work in the kitchen with the continuous morning tea that the team all bakes for
A busy day with lots of people coming so that was good but I was on my feet all the time.
Home and had a big clean up in the kitchen.
Hubby and I went for a walk to look for mushrooms but although it has rained the sun hasn't warmed the ground so nothing.
Going to get my ironing done too and then just blob out with Hubby. Its been a full on week so I just want to snuggle down. Its cold here so we will light the fire.

I'm going to do grill lamb chops for dinner with lots of veges

Glad you're back Dusty -- getting older is not for the weak --- it's a new chapter and we have to figure it out as we go. Sound like you are totally up to it.

Fiona -- so sad to hear you are having a problem -- the first thing that came to my mind was something I read not long ago --- if god takes you to it, he will take you through it. God Bless,
Sammi

Hi all!! I haven't been on here in so long. Trying to catch up is hard when I haven't checked in for so long. I have been so very busy with my teddybear making business and caring for my 2 yr. old grandson. Been having some back/shoulder issues from an old injury that likes to flare up every once in a while when I've overdone the exercise(walking) and ourdoor work. DH and I volunteered with our local school last Sat. to help clean up some yards after Hurricane Irene devasted our area last Aug. Our town survived ok, but the nearby town of Prattsville NY where I grew up was hit so hard. It's so sad to see so much devastation and so many old homes that are going to be demolished. But the few that are staying are in desperate need of help. So we went over along with about 80 students, teachers and staff (my daughter teaches there). We picked up garbage and debris half the day. Broke for lunch and then raked about a 2 acre property that some good friends of ours live. They clung to the top floor of their house during the flood with water all around them, but somehow, their house was spared as trailers from a nearby park floated by along with cars, trucks, etc. Still hard to believe it happened. You always see it on the news, but don't think it will happen, but it did. Anyhow, using a york rake for 4 hours and all the bending finally caught up with my back and shoulder. But it is better today which makes me happy. Getting tired of getting old and having to be so careful to keep from being in pain.
My grandson Shae today was playing and I leaned over to pick something up and he decided to stand up at the same time so his hard little head hit my mouth...ouch!!! Needless to say, I have a fat lip and quite a cut inside from my tooth. So it's liquid stuff for my diet for the next few days I suppose. DS lives next door and invited me over for dinner-home cooked pea soup and cranberry muffins-yummy!!!
So I'm glad to be back checking in on everyone and happy to see so many still here. To all of you not feeling well, so sorry and will keep you in my prayers. Take care all. Will try to keep up a little better. Have a great weekend!!!

TGIF!! I had a great day at school today. We had a belated Earth Day and planted flowers all over the campus, followed by snow cones for all the kids! I've been to water aerobics twice this week and have done other exercises and strength training at home, as well.

Mumsy, I'm so sorry about the liver disease. I hope the doctor can give you a plan to handle it. My husband passed away from a liver melanoma in Dec. 10 and we had no idea that he had it...you take care of yourself!!

Bonnie, it's great to see you back---and I agree that it's soooo hard to keep up with everyone and everything! We're all friends so it doesn't matter! Sorry your back is still bothering you.

Vicki, how cute that your dd actually did go to the school she wanted all those years ago---with or without that red car! I'm glad you're able to get your dad settled. We had to put my dad in a lockdown Alzheimer's unit about 6 years ago. He left the house w/o his clothes!! He tried to drive and woke my mom up all night long as she was trying to recoup from hip replacement surgery. It's such a hard thing but knowing they are safe is so wonderful.

I didn't realize you were caring for your FIL, Michelle. You've got a lot on your plate. Hugs to your boys for giving you help. Caring for the elderly takes its toll.

Your meals sound so good, Dan! Keep them coming!

I'm glad your problem was 'just' gallstones, Lynn, although I'm sure that was hard to take in itself!

I would say weigh when you feel like it, Classic Guy...whatever suits you. After a while you'll find what makes you comfy!

Sandi, let us know how the sugery goes...hugs to you and your family!

Sammy, are you doing okay? Weren't you feeling bad a week or so ago? My mind can't catch up, lol...sorry if I'm wrong!

And your jokes always bring a laugh, RW...keep them coming.

Okay...I have a busy weekend planned and am SO glad it's Friday. Waving to all,
Mary

Sorry Vicki, college is high school here in New Zealand then they go on to university or tech colleges at about 18 years if they want to further their education to train in a field of employment. DD has just turned 18 and will be off to uni next year.

They didn't win last night and the judges were a bit bias some people told her college entry. One girl from another college said to DD that she had seen her act the night before and hoped she be there again last night and said she was amazing and they should have won. And yest DD said to me she thought the girl should have won. Needless to say they both didn't think the winners should have and DD was suitably on a high that someone she admired had said she was so good.

Another day full on (well at least until lunch. I am odd down to our Church for our monthly community get to-gether and I am in the kitchen making a continuous morning tea (its free) and so I have just made so muffins and a rice bubble square/slice but using up some left over coco pops so that will be interesting to see how it goes down especially for the children.

Home and then I need to get some tidy up done around here as it looks like a bomb has hit the house.

Fortunately a quiet night in so that will be good. Might just have a slow walk just to get some fresh air and a sense of peace I think

Fiona, you mentioning getting your daughter to college reminds me of my youngest daughter when she was about 7 or so. She had already decided she wanted to go to the 4 yr college in our county so she could dance on their clogging team. She told me I would have to get a red car so I could take her to college every day! As it turned out, she actually did go to that college and dance on the team, but of course she had her own car by that time (not red) and had to live on campus as part of her scholarship requirements.

I don't know Michele I don't know of anyone else in our family having it. The radiologist said the long term use of some drugs can cause it so I will need to see if I need to stop them I take an antidepressants (coping with my DH's Mental Illness) and simvastatin for lowering my cholesterol but that has been good over the last couple of years so I maybe able to stop them

fiona How did you end up with such a liver disease? Is it genetic?

I have very bad eyes, and am told it's partially genes. I already have cataracts & may need surgery in the future; I am only 51. I thought it was an "old people" disease!

The rain has stopped, may go out a walk

Michele I think you would be about 2 or 3 hours behind us but opposite seasons.Hope you enjoyed your inside aerobics.

Dan can I come for tea??

Lynn Well I have Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and one of the symptoms is fatigue (there are not many) so that explains a lot. The radiologist was foreign and I didn't quite understand what he said but he said something about degenerative and he is going to send ta letter to my doctor. He said he found no gall stones (that's nice I didn't know he was looking for any!!!

Looking on line I can see I need to just keep losing weight, exercise more and eat lots more fruit and veges so I have been starting to that already.

Had a nice time with the grandies and lots of cuddles with GD
Now to sort DD out before she goes out the door and cook something to take out. I actually feel like just going to bed so I will come home early.

Fiona hope all goes well with your tests! You must be on the same time zone (or nearly) as I am here in Tokyo.
The rain is just too hard today, so instead of the pool, I'm going to do my Richard Simmons aerobic tape.

Tuesday I made lentil soup for lunches and this morning I made 6 small Spinach onion garlic Fritata's. This evening I am going to saute fennel, tomatoes, oregano, capers and shrimp.

It has been raining for 10 hours and looks as it will keep raining for a while.
Enjoy

Fiona, I went through that last year. In the process of conducting a dozen tests related to my liver, they discovered that I had gall stones. They did a liver biopsy when they removed my gall bladder, and the liver was fine. Turns out the gall stones were messing up my digestion which was making the liver work harder or differently and then leading to elevated liver enzymes. It was worrisome but turned out okay when all was said and done.

Oh RW you are so naughty thanks for the laugh this morning.

It sure was Sammi and today is not much different

Classic guy Sammi is right about the slow weight loss.

Bonnie good to see you again even if it hasn't been for awhile. Just know we will all be here for when you get to come back cheering you on.

Vicki sorry about your Dad but he will be in the best place. It does take its toll on us. Just jump back on the wagon and continue on and you will get back to the routine you were on

HI Michele and thanks it was busy I am able to watch my food as I do it so that is good.

Yes prayers and thought for Sandi today.

I am off to have a liver scan today. Nil by mouth since midnight so just having a cup of cranberry tea with no milk for breakfast.

I have liver function tests that have been coming back poor so they wont to check that out. And no I don't drink emoticon In fact when my doctor asked I was able to name the five times I have had one or two glasses of wine at weddings/birthdays this year. She said that was not anything to worry about. I have had pain in that area for a few years and so it will be interesting to see what they see.

Then I have an afternoon with the grandchildren looking after the nnear 4 year old while his younger sister has a play lady visit (its for a study the university is doing.
Home and then to the launch of a groups of friends book club tonight.

And before all that I need to take DD to college. She had her first Shakespeare competitions last night (they didn't win) and didn't get home until well after mid night and as she has study period first I will take her in later before I go. DD has the second night of comps tonight and she is in2 x 5 min entries form our college

Classic guy, I agree with Sammi---I only get on the scale once a week, same time. My progress is slower, now that I am 51. But I, too , am almost at my 1st goal, & will work toward my 2nd.

RW great joke! It is 5 a.m. here; great way to start my day!

Fiona, you sound very busy! Keep well, stay healthy.

bonnie, I hope you are feeling better. I know my back gets bad, too. THen I have to slow down.

Vicki I also take care of my FIL at home. He suffers from dementia. Nursing homes, assitant living, they are not popular here in Japan yet. It is a big challenge to take care of him daily. My 2 sons, 25 & 23, also live with grandpa which is a big help to my husband & I. I often have to take a deep breath, but then I try to do something postive for me. I keep you in my thoughts & prayers, & hope things get easier for you

Prayers for Sandi, I'm thinking & praying for you today; hope you will be back with us soon!

Raining today but will bike ride, 25 minutes to the pool anyway.

Happy Friday, all!

I have been checking in now & then as I can to see how everyone is doing, but have not had time to post. I am worn out, haven't been able to eat very well or exercise lately. My dad was in the hospital again all week, is now getting settled into assisted living. He is not all that happy about it. He was there for almost 2 months last fall for rehab after he broke the 2nd hip, but does not remember being there. I hope he settles in ok. He really cannot live alone, he won't take care of himself. We were going to his house 4 nights out of the week to cook for him, and that is tiring. Hoping I can get some piece of mind now, knowing there is someone to look after him, & that I can get back on track soon.

Sorry to ramble on. Hope everyone is having good weather today. We had severe thunderstorms this morning, and it stormed again a little while ago. DH said he saw 4 deer on our ridge this morning, and my spinach is up!

Take care...

Sorry guys, I am so far behind that I will never catch up. I have been having too much trouble with my back to be on the computer. As usual, I did too much work, and now have been suffering for 3 to 4 weeks. Problem is that it doesn't hurt while I am cleaning, etc, but after.

I seem to be getting better. Pretty sure it is all muscle and nerve involvement, pretty sure I have not done any real damage to my surgery.

Patience!

Hope you are all well, and I am really missing you. Have been feeling pretty discouraged, but now that I seem to be healing a bit, I am a bit better.

I have my new tv, but my friend has not been able to get the longer cord and get over to my house and hook up the computer to my tv for it to by my computer screen. I am pretty sure when that is done, I can be on the computer from my easy chair.

Hoping the have that done by next week at the latest.

If you don't hear from me again for awhile, I am just waiting for that to be done.

I am at my niece's computer right now as I am babysitting, and their's is set up with a better chair etc than mine.

God Bless you all, and I will be backkkkkkk!

Classicguy,

Two things -- it would be best to buy dark chocolate instead of something like M&Ms -- but you should do what you're most comfortable with for you ---
Don't expect to see daily progress --- the scale will go up and down at first - a pound down a pound up -- it is usually better to do once a week - same day, same time -- early when you first get up before you eat or drink.

I weight myself every few days to make sure I haven't gained anything back -- I have one more pound to lose for my first goal and then I'm going to work on a second goal of a few
more pounds --- losing slowly is best, it is more likely to stay off. Sammi

Thanks for checking in everyone...I believe I am on the right path now...Yesterday was much better n didn't have the cravings for dessert as bad...Probably was just a body shock of going off cold turkey...Great advice SAMMI to not do it this way...Think I'll get some M n M's to do just that...Planted my vegetable garden yesterday after work...Then went out and walked 20 min.
Curious about something...
What is recommended for weighing progress? Everyday, every other day, once a week?
Just wondered if it could be a mental thing if you didn't see results everday.

Happy Thursday Sparklers ---
Fiona, you were busy as a little worker bee ---
Prayers for Sandi --
Classicguy, if you cut back on your sugar slowly it will be easier -- I started with one less teaspoon of sugar in my coffee. I love dark chocolate, so I have the bite size candy in the frig and if I crave something sweet in the middle of the day I just have one --- some days I don't have any, but it's there if I want it. Overtime I've found that some things I liked before are too sweet now and I don't want them.
Michele, too much rain -- I do love rain, but when I lived in Seattle for a year it was too much all the time. I think I'm solar powered.

Don't forget to eat healthy! Blessings, Sammi emoticon

Every year, Smitty and his wife Martha went to the State Fair. And every year, Smitty would say, “Martha, I’d like to ride in that there airplane.” And every year, Martha would reply, “I know, Smitty, but that airplane ride costs ten dollars, and ten dollars is ten dollars.”

This one year Smitty and Martha went to the fair and Smitty said, “Martha, I’m 71-years old. If I don’t ride that airplane this year I may never get another chance. ”

Martha replied, “Smitty, that there airplane ride costs ten dollars, and ten dollars is ten dollars.”

The pilot overheard them and said, “Folks, I’ll make you a deal. I’ll take you both up for a ride. If you can stay quiet for the entire ride and not say one word, I won’t charge you, but if you say one word it’s ten dollars.” Smitty and Martha agreed, and up they went.

The pilot performed all kinds of twists and turns, rolls and dives, but not a word is heard. He even does a nose dive, pulling up 15 feet above the ground, but still not a word. They land and the pilot turns to Smitty, “By golly, I did everything I could think of to get you to yell out, but you didn’t.”

Smitty replied, “Well, I was gonna say something when Martha fell out … but ten bucks is ten bucks!”

Great work Dan you are doing so well.

HI RW and Tearose

I have been flat stick today
First my morning started with me having to go into town (Putaruru)and pick up my prescriptions as I didn't get time on Tuesday and I needed to take one this morning.
Then work and it was a hectic day (Mainly Music and a few people coming in to work) and I didn't get finished.
Then lunch with Hubby in Matamata but first I had to go to the bank and also get some lace to finish the outfit for Lady Macbeth in the Shakespeare play DD is in tomorrow night.
After lunch it was back into Putaruru to pick up DD and get a few groceries, when she was picked up (for the first night of Shakespeare competitions - in Hamilton) I went back down to work (walking) to finish some work,
Hubby picked me up cos it was dark. Have had tea and now catching up here before I finish the last of the lace and make a feijoa cake for a book club I am going to tomorrow night.

Hi, friends! I've been to water aerobics twice this week and actually did my strength training last night. I felt better afterwards, so I know I need to get back into that.

Lynn, I'm so glad you had a nice visit and I am amazed at your summer aspirations! I'm sure you'll be a fabulous camp leader, lol!

I have 4 more weeks of school---lots to do until then!

hi all. I'm back on a plan after regaining eight of the fifteen + that I lost last year using SP. Real discouraged about my lack of self discipline but at least I got back on the horse right. Started again yesterday. Super hungry all the time, guess that's to be expected because I've been in a bad habit of eating way too much.

It is probably better for you to wait to get on the scale. But just get right back on your plan & before you know it, you'll be back on track again!

Hi All,
I am back! I had a really good time with my daughter and her family in Denver. My grand daughter is 20 months and she is a riot. We went to the zoo, the children's museum, shopping and out to eat....a lot. I am afraid to get on the scale. I may wait a day or two. I can tell my hands and feet are a little swollen. I get that (water retention) when I fly. It is always good to come home.

Yesterday was one of my grand son's birthday....he is 9. We had steaks on the grill at my daughter's. It was nice. I only have about 5 weeks until I start babysitting her 4 kids for the summer. They are 13, 11, 9 and 4. I am really looking forward to it. They call it "Camp Grandma".

Sandi........I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. We are all pulling for you!

Thanks everyone for the welcome...When I posted yesterday, I had not eaten dinner thus that must have been the reason for the extreme hunger...In addition, I had cut out all sweets for the past three days so it could have been withdrawal pains from that...But for dinner I ate a 4 oz piece of grilled salmon, garden salad, and fresh strawberries for dessert...And in an instant I was feeling great! Looking forward to this weight loss journey and making friends here...I appreciate the support everyone!

Welcome, CLASSICGUY! No you should not be hungry, there are plenty of things you can eat that are good for you and have few calories. Keep veggie trays on hand--buy them pre-made or chop your own veggies. A bowl of fruit on the counter. If you work, pack your own snacks.

Keep posting so we can track your progress with you.

Hi, everyone! It is getting up to 72 degrees here today before the rain and temps back in the fifties and sixties. Lost 2,4 pounds after last week's .8 lb gain. I have never stuck with it before when the scale shouldn't have gone up but it did. Feels good. Have a good week, everyone!

Good Morning Sparklers,

Our warm weather is coming back today --- didn't care for the cold --- had a delicious tuna wrap yesterday --- ate half at lunch and the rest at dinner along with a cup of lentil soup. Was so good. Today will probably be one of those subway salads -- half spinich, half lettuce --- so good.
Fiona, you sound like you are doing great. You too Dan. My hubby loves split pea soup. Welcome Classicguy --

HI Eliza and Dan, Hope your days were good.

Classic Guy, Eliza is right s you shouldn't be having hunger attacks. Drink water or go for a walk. Maybe eat some fruit they will give you some sweetness as well as something low in calories to fill you up

I have had a lovely day.
Went for a 2.08 mile work for 37 minutes. The had lunch out on the deck with hubby (he's chopping firewood)
Then I made for feijoa muffins, and some chocolate muffins, did some suduko and went to town with hubby for some lat errand. I was nice to just have a day of no commitments and just enjoying the last of the Autumn weather

Classicguy,
I have been here for about 5 weeks now the first week there were two days I was hungry but I wasn't using the calories I should have, once I followed recommended calorie intake I have not been hungry once and am losing 2 lbs per week every week. Well we will see tomorrow is my weigh day.

I got in 6 hours of work today, my working days are getting longer . . . nothing very exciting about my food today except the pea soup I made for the week sure is yummy.

I just walked to the mail box and a wild Tom Turkey let me know he was there, their gobbling sure sounds funny this time of day, I think they are tired and ready to roost.

Enjoy
Dan

It is Wednesday ANZAC day in NZ.
The day we remember the Australian and New Zealand forces who fought in wars.
I didn't go to an ANZAC service today and that would be the first in a long time.
I just wanted to have a sleep in and wake when I was ready. Got just over 9 hours.
I have to get up early on Sundays for church and then my parents ring every Saturday so there is never any rel chance to do this and I feel really good for it.
Off to have a morning walk and get onto some house work.
have a great day one and all and catch you all later.

Thank you Mumsey and Michelle! I Told the MD that I need to get comfortable in my skin OR get rid of some of the skin! He suggested the later. I told him I WAS tracking my nutrition and exercise daily, but took a break while company came..... His answer was ( in the nicest way.). So do it again!
He is genuine and I love his honesty! Always makes me feel like I'm visiting a family member!
Seems as though the rain has passed on here.. it's a little cool this morning. Taking my Brother in-law to the airport at 11 am . putting the house back together, then taking my pooch out for a nice long walk!
Have a GREAT day! emoticon emoticon

Fiona have you tried indoor aerobic tapes? They are wonderful on the rainy days here. We get a lot of them here in japan. I esp. like the Richard simmons tapes, as he is gentle for me with back issues.

Sandi, will be thinking of you.

Tearose, you can do it! Focus on today, this moment only. that's all you really have!

Glad you are all enjoying my blog, Brenda and Michele

Dan when you freeze the mushrooms are they soggy when you defrost them?

Hope the walk was good Abby

Sandi what a time, I hope it all gets sorted for you

Tearose the castle wedding does sound l\nice. Good luck with getting back into it all. emoticon

HI ELIZA, RW

Its Tuesday afternoon here and I have had a couple of busy days with work and family things. I am a bit tired and haven't been doing any walking.
Its cold again so I need to think about what I am going to wear and get it sorted I think.
I find winter tends to make me hibernate like a bear so I am really going to have to rethink my exercise routines.

Went for a routine MD visit today... all is well. He mentioned that he wasn't happy with the weight gain. In the past few years the numbers have crept up, ( common, but a reality check) He's never really said anything about it before............Must get back to tracking ,my meals!
I need a push!
Had a wonderful weekend otherwise.... Baptism then a wedding at "Oheka Castle"! Great music, dancing , friends and food! Everything was over the top for me , but fun to be in a castle!
Hope all of you had a great weekend too!

What a beautiful sunny day to work outside here in Idaho. Wow and this spring sunset is awesome this evening, the geese are out feeding with the white tail deer, ground squirrels just came out of there dens this week and are running around checking out what happening around there new holes. They are eating everything around them, I guess they don't know about the SPARKS healthy eating styles.

For me I had a 1750 calorie day, eating fresh healthy foods and learning for 5 weeks now that I can eat smaller portions and be very pleased.

Exercise was 45 min treadmill - shoveled rock for 30 min and normal outdoor work.

Enjoy
Dan

Went for my surgical clearance from my primary physician this morning and there was a problem with my EKG. Spent the afternoon in my cardiologist's office - he redid the EKG and said I have a condition he has been aware of for some time that makes the machine think I have had a heart attack - which I have not. He made copies of my echocardiogram, halter monitor, and carotid artery tests, dictated a full report and clearance, and guaranteed me they will receive it in time. Needless to say, I called my surgeon's office and they agreed they will call me as soon as they receive everything. It has been a very stressful afternoon.

Happy Birthday Dan !!Sure glad you have a beatutiful start to the day. My Birthday was last Wed and the weather was crappy snow rain and wind !!

Just a quick pop in today as I have a lot to do in a couple of days . I start full time work for the season at the greenhouse and nursery on Tuesday . I have prepped a bunch of meals and have them in the freezer for the days I come home darn tired and hungry . Now hopefully carrying all those potted trees and shrubs will tone my arms again . Lost it since last year .!!
Hope you all have a good week !

Thank you, Dan, for the mushroom info. I think I'll dig out my dehydrator and start using it. It is just in the pantry so I don't have to go too far to look.

The sun will shine all day and actually be hot, for our area anyway, in the 70's.

Mumsey, I am going to read your blog later today and see what you write about. I used to make jam all the time when the children were young and it never lasted very long. It is so easy to make but having jars on hand can be a problem. The prices keep going up, One of the ladies here makes jam periodically so I buy a jar or two from her when I need some. She turns the money into our treasury so we can donate to the needy in our area.

Sammi and Sandi, you are in my thoughts and prayers as you are going through troubling times.

I plan on going for a long walk later on and enjoy the sun.

Brendagail9 Good Morning, The mushrooms we got yesterday and last week we stored in our and our neighbors bellies but when we get a lot and no one wants them we either freeze them, can them or yes dehydrate them in the sun.

It's going to be another beautiful day here in North Idaho low 70s. It's Earth Day and we walk the road to the highway about 4 miles and pick up the trash left from last year, usually about a 1/4 bag is all there is.
Enjoy

Fiona, thank you for letting me know. I am going to look up your blog. I would love to make jam, as my husband eats toast every morning, & the japanese jam is so awful!

Michele you cook fruit and sugar and some other things sometimes to make jam. This is the jam I have made (8 jars yesterday)

That is my own blog.

Mary I hope you have managed a quiet day after the full on one at school.

Sammi when my hubby has issues, (he suffers form chronic depression) I find just getting out for a gentle walk not actually walking far or fast does wonders for me so just start with that. Hugs to you.

Brenda we have a few different fruit trees so I am often making jams and give them away.

HI Dan and tearose.

Sandi all the best and I hope you haven't tired yourself out with all the cleaning!!!

I have been at church all morning. I help once a fortnight with the liturgy at the 8.00am service and my normal service time is 10.00am and because I am the secretary we had our AGM so it was a full on day today.
Just resting out this afternoon. The school holidays finish today here so it will be back to a normal sort of routine here so that will be good as to some of my routines. Its been getting cold here too so we have the first going in the evening and first thing in the morning but its still sunny during the day

Just finished updating my health care proxy before my surgery on Thursday. My best friend stopped by to sign it and my brother will stop in later. This time I'm going to make a bunch of copies to keep on hand.

Did a whole bunch of cleaning and even changed everything in the bedroom to summer. That feels good!

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Good Morning Dan,

I need to know how you store the mushrooms after you pick them. I buy mine in the store and put them in a sealed tupperware container and they will keep about a week. I have also stored them in a brown paper bag in the refrigerator. Do you dry them? I have a dehydrator.

Thanks in advance for the info. Have a great weekend with the grandchildren!

Here comes the spring sun peeking over the mountain with no clouds in site. One gobbling wild turkey down in the meadow, the pair of geese honking back at him on the upper pond.

Exercise will be keeping up with three grandsons 4 - 6 - 9 years old searching for wild mushrooms, this is a guaranteed fun weekend.
Enjoy

Michelle, jam and jelly are very simple to make. Just bring the sweetened fruit to a rolling boil and add a box of pectin and pour into sterilized jars and seal. The other way is to make freezer jam, no cooking required but I have never made any. Instructions are on the pectin box

It's foggy this morning and won't get over 47 but tomorrow is supposed to be 71 degrees. I need some heat.

Hi Mary, it's good to hear from you and that you are doing well. Soon school will be out for the summer and you can relax for a while.

Mary, thanks for the hugs and prayers -- you have a wonderful weekend too.

Long story, short -- hubby had a massive heart attack last June --- then double bypass surgery. After six months of recuperation we were told his heart was only at 15-20%
function --- in December he had a defibulator implanted --- last week he had an adjustment
to the defibulator --- he is still dealing with shortness of breath and we're hoping it will be
better after this adjustment.

My energy level is way down and I know it's just stress --- I also know I need to start exercising again -- it will help with the stress and keep me from gaining weight. On with the show!

Blessings, Sammi

I'm doing my weekly check in with hopes that all of you are and will be having a great week!

Sammi, hugs and prayers for a good outcome.

Grace, have you tried the Sit and Be Fit dvd's? I had to wear one of those big black boots for 6 months before my daughter's wedding and used one of those for a while. Check www.collagevideo.com for loads of choices of great dvd's that you can preview.

I've had another very busy week. We had Olympics Day yesterday. Lots of parents and children all over the place. Thanks to a well organized group of parents it was a wonderful, fun filled day. But we teachers were on our feet all day with no breaks----and just about collapsed when the day was done. I have absolutely nothing on my plate this weekend (whoa---was that a diet analogy, or what??!!) and am looking forward to water aerobics, gardening and cleaning/clearing in my house!

Hi LW and welcome back

Dan you always put a smile on my face

Brenda wonderful that you can help out your friend. Pity they don't want to loose some if their weight is that bad. It would be nice to have a new range though.

Twila keep going with the weight loss you will get there, and great exercising

Sandi its always great being with the grandchildren ah. And another great way to sneak in exercise, I find.

ELIZA isn't it great to have a clean out. Hope the prom goes well and lives up to all she expected

Ruth thanks for the blog info. I had seen that but didn't realise it was my team members

Michele what movie did you see?

Grace its just a blip in the whole scheme of things so don't be disheartened it will come right in the end

Sammi sometimes we have to do a change in routine to kick start the weightless again.

Its another glorious day here in the South Waikato (New Zealand) so I will be off for a morning walk and then working in the garden and making some feijoa jam and muffins too I think

Grace, just do whatever you can for your exercise. You will eventually be able to get back to a regular routine!

Sammi, hope your husband is better, whatever his health issue is.

Sandi, I'm keeping you in my prayers, hope your surgery goes well.

Cloudy here today. I have to teach english soon to my children students, as well as an adult student.

Went for my pre-op testing this morning and came home to the nicest surprise - a goodie from this team. I don't know who to thank so I'll just thank the best team on the site for your support.

You should feel good that you had the 6 inch and was satisfied with that instead of stuffing yourself with 12 inch. You probably felt much better because you weren't stuffed. Keep up the good job. Have a wonderful weekend.

Life has a way of taking over and ruin the best of intentions. You have been doing great and I'm sure as soon as you have a chance you'll squeeze 10 minutes for a quick walk. Take it one day at a time and keekp up the good work.
