Happy Saturday to all! We had rain this morning, but now have some sun. I have had a fairly good week with exercise, food & water. My main problem with the food is getting enough veggies and I often come in under on the calories. I think the meals are too much food for me! I will have to exercise on my own today....dd is out being a social butterfly until late tonight. Glad she is having a social life now that she is back home :)

Dan, we love seeing our flock of turkeys in our "neighborhood"! Have fun with the little ones.

I have such a hard time remembering who shared what when I post...don't mean to leave anyone out.

I need to get busy, lot's of clean up to do here. We are having friends over tomorrow for burgers (& veggie burgers) on the grill. Visitors always motivate me, hahah.

Hello everyone!
Got back from my cruise last week. Had a very busy week when I got back to work. I have to be honest I didn't do so well while on the cruise. They have food available all day. Figured this was once a year thing and I gained a little bit. But since I've been back I've been back on track. I did do a little exercising while on the ship, probably helped me not gain anymore. They have all kind of fruit, but very skimpy on vegetables. It was the most relaxing vacation I have ever had.

Have a great weekend!

Hi all. It's been awhile since I cked in. March has been so busy and full of good and not so good excuses to be Awol. The problem with not doing my dailys including my sparkin is that when I get sidetracked I "always" gain wt. here I am again. grrrr. hey the good news is.... that I know what to do to stop the wt gain cycle. I hope all are doing well. I was on a such a losing roll, i know with alittle bit of elbow grease and commitment I can be right back to losing again. It's just so hard to restart everytime. Yes, i can hear you now, Hello!!!! teehee. Sounds like we have some tick probs in the bunch, vaseline maynot work for tics but it sure works good for lots of other things, my DD swears by it and uses it everynight on her face before bed. She is 30 and looks 18! She still gets carded for cigerettes all the time. Yes, I can hear you now.. I hate her smoking too! Have a great wkend all. Life is good, sometimes we have to slow down abit to notice the blessings around us.

Evening everyone.
Didn't get any walking in. I worked in the garden for a few hours (working up a sweat) and then had one of my daughters and her family come round for the afternoon and tea so that was nice.
Daylight saving ends tonight and I am going to go to bed and have an early night as I have to preach at our church's 8.00am service which is a bit of a challenge.
Weekends throw my off track a bit but I am learning to monitor what I do and eat anyway

Bonnie who is "Zach"?

Vicki it is always good to hear from you!!!

Dan how was your weekend with the boys?

It has gone from cold here to terribly, terribly windy! I tried to ride my bike to the grocery story today but literally couldn't pedal it! I am usually very active so I know it's very windy. On top of that, it's raining very hard.

Wishing you and the boys a wonderful weekend.

VICKI

Congrats! great news. Glad you are checking in from time to time. Whatever works into your schedule is all good.

Had a good day.

Did some cleaning and arranging in my dining room. Zach is coming tomorrow afternoon to move some furniture for me. So will get a bit more cleaning done then.

Had to stop myself this afternoon. I was getting into the OCD mode of cleaning. I stopped cleaning and went to the pool. My back is tired, and a bit sore, but it seems that is happening, and then in the morning, I am waking with it feeling pretty good. Progress!

Ate within my tracker again today. Feeling pretty good about that. I think that might be 3 days in a row of being pretty close. Works for me.

Have a great weekend my friends.

Send some sun to Idaho please, while exercising on the treadmill this morning there were 20 Wild Turkeys in the field to watch they were feeding in the rain.
Going to try Chef Megs Salsa Chicken again but I am going to shred it and add to a fresh green salad for dinner tonight.
I get to take my 3 grandsons to indoor water park with waves for three days! 4 - 6 and 9 years old. I am very excited it will be awesome! emoticon emoticon

I have not had time to post but have been able to skim everyone else's. Thanks for the welcomes & encouragement. I have actually started tracking my food again for the most part, and have made an effort to be more active. Have discovered that I am now in the normal range for my height...yay!

Hope everyone has a great day. The weather here has me antsy and not wanting to do what I am suppose to do! Glad it is Friday!!

Ticks are nasty! We've always used a blob of vaseline... smothers them and they back out. Our dogs always licked it off so it was good if they couldn't reach ! I always lose patience waiting and just pinch it as close to the skin as I can .. pinching it off.
Hope all of you had a good day today.. Mine was busy and went VERY fast! Still not much of a voice coming out , but I'm managing.......... It seems that whenever I'm at the end of my rope .. some thing happens around me (client, boss or family member) and it makes me realize how lucky and blessed I really am! God is good! And it also makes me feel a little silly for thinking that "my problems" are the worst! So silly!
I am blessed to have all of you to support my cranky pants!
Thanks for listening and lightening my worries! Spark on! emoticon

Tick season here never ended as we didn't get the 5 ft of snow we are so used to. Any take some vasiline and rub it all over the area where the tick is it will back out and you will be able to take it off. Also I hope you get that poor baby a lime and tick shot at the vet. We do every year. Not taking any chances.

Only one cookie got the best of me. I walked a mile before work.

About the tick. Is this just an old wive's take, or will it work? I have always heard if you coat over the tick with clear nail polish it will die. Anyone know? Once it's dead, I think you are supposed to be able to get it out with a tweezers without worrying about leaving the head.

Anybody know if that will work?

TEAROSE

Hope you are having a good day today.

FIONA

Good job deciding to take a walk and energizing yourself! I need to remember that if I can get off my butt, I will feel better. Some days I have that problem.

Even if you did not get exactly the walk you wanted, I think the socializing was worth it.

GOLFGMA

Hope you had a great day outside

SAMMI

Hope you are feeling ok today. Thanks for the support on my ideas. It is always nice to know someone agrees. This is really all stuff I have learned in my 4 years on Spark People, and from the weight loss study I did for 6 months before that.

The difference for me this time from other times in my life, is I am really believing it! Not like the diets that have just made me feel like I was a failure.

DALE

The truth about me writing to everyone is, it actually helps me. It is a way of instilling what I have learned into my own head.

I have to get up every single morning and tell myself, "you are not in charge", and you probably all know me well enough to know how aggravated that makes me. Then I say "tough", the thing about NOT being in charge, is you are also NOT responsible for the world. Between that and "One day at a time", I am making it through.

DAN

Hope you found a good pie for your extra calories! Then I hope you really enjoyed it.

BRENDA

I am very sorry to hear you are not feeling well.

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I am sending you the spring you are not yet getting, and hoping that all of the sunshine makes your pain go away.

BRENDA

I am afraid that I am like Sammi, if I wait, I will forget to wish you a wonderful birthday!

SOOOOOOOO, Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Brenda, Happy birthday to you. "And many more"

Sure hope you are feeling well by then too.

I had a good day today. Lunch with my friend Amy and my cousin Barb. Good visit. We are planning for a graduation party for Amy's daughter who is graduating from college in May.

Went to the pool, and walked in the water, did my exercises, and swam quite a bit as well. Was able to straighten my legs out much more today while swimming forward. Thinking that maybe to walking in loosening my muscles.

Then stopped at Big Lots. They had Nutrisystem food and desserts on sale, 5 for $4.00. I bought a bunch of the desserts. No that crazy about the meals, but their desserts are pretty good, and the really good part is the portion control.

I am not having nearly so many food cravings, and am eating healthier. Just think those things will help me along!

Have a great evening and a wonderful tomorrow my friends.

Thanks, Sammi, for the BDay greeting.

Dale, we lived in TN in the country for just under a year when I was in 6th grade, probably 1954, and we would get ticks and my mother would take a lighted cigarette and touch the tick and it would pop right out. Of course, you can't do that with a tick in the dog's ear. You may need to give him a tranquilizer so you can get it out with tweezers. Good luck!

Brenda, Happy Birthday -- I'm awful with remembering dates, so if I do it now, I hope you don't mind an early wish. Happy, Happy Birthday!!

Dale, I will be glad to share -- that's what a joyful heart is for! For you dog you might try using a pair of tweezers --- you should be able to get a good hold on it that way --- if you don't want to try that, maybe a Q-tip dipped in peroxide -- lay it on top of the tick and see if he'll let go.

I was posting and hit a wrong key and it disappeared and I don't know what key I hit to make it do that. So my message is out there somewhere floating in space. Don't you hate it when that happens?

At my other apartment we couldn't lock ourselves out because the door had to be locked with our key. Here, it is easy to lock yourself out but there are two or three ladies here who have a master key so I don't worry too much about that.

Am feeling some better this morning. At least I slept all night without waking up with a drippy nose. Yesterday late afternoon I took a nap, something I never do unless I am sick. My throat felt vaguely sore when I got up this morning but is feeling better after two cups of very hot coffee. I didn't eat much yesterday, raisin bran and an apple for breakfast, a whole can of chicken noodle soup and three tangerines for a late lunch, two scoops of vanilla ice cream with strawberries and chopped walnuts for dinner. Lots of water. I hope I don't get the laryngitis that is going around. At least I don't have a fever. I have a scheduled appointment for a Medicare physical next Wednesday that my doctor wants to do. Monday is my 70th birthday. No plans to celebrate other than a huge Happy Birthday sign will be posted on my door from the card lady here and I will get a couple birthday cards signed by all of the residents.

Wind and rain storms are blowing through for the rest of the week, a different front everyday so I will no doubt stay home.

I hope you all have a good day. I am camped out with my afghan in my recliner for the day.

Oolala,
Thanks for the BMI link. It turns out that my "guess-timate" about a goal weight of 145 is right on! However, my Internist keeps urging me to be heavier. I don't understand her fear of being trim, at an optimal good weight.

Bonnie,
Thanks for writing to everyone like you do. It gives me hope that someday I might do better myself.

Sammi,
Can I borrow some of your good disposition? I'm doing fine right now, but sometimes it's tough for me.

161

Oliver has a tick embedded inside the length of his ear. He's been shaking his head and scratching all night for 2 nights. When I try to look at it he flinches. Oh, great. I wonder if he picked it up at the groomers or on that day. It's been there awhile though, so it'll be hard to dislodge. Oh joy. I'll enlist my Mother's help and hope for the best.

Somehow I let yesterday go without a walk. Time just slips by. I'm a procrastinator.

Good Morning Sparklers --- it's going to be another beautiful day --- didn't get much done yesterday and my appetite was on hold --- had a nature valley granola bar for breakfast and didn't feel like eating lunch -- had some strawberry yogurt for dinner along with a few multi-seed crackers --- they are so good. Made by Crunchmaster these were the Rosemary and Olive Oil and they are gluten free. Yum.

Bonnie, you are so good at putting things in the proper perspective. The guidelines for healthy eating are just that -- it is a journey and if you want something special you don't have to deny yourself -- there is no "you are bad". Enjoy the cookie or pie or ice cream --- that is much better then going overboard because you feel deprived of something you like. All things in moderation --- enjoy the journey.

Just a super group of people -- enjoy our visits. Blessings, Sammi

Our last nights bible study didn't finish until well after 10.00 so by the time I got home I was a very tired lady. Felt like I could curl up and sleep this afternoon but I went for a great walk. Went a lot earlier than I usually do and came across three young people that are friends with some of my older children and had a great chat (and a cuddle of a little baby), not so good when you are trying to go walking but fun anyway (One was over from Australia for a wedding).
I did some exercises when I got home and didn't feel like going for a sleep after all.

I am going to our community meeting this evening and they are serving pie and coffee, on the nutrition tracker Apple Pie is 280 cal. 4oz - Berry Pie is 120 cal. 4 oz.
I am shy on my calories for today but I may just come home and have a small salad depending on the type of pies.
Enjoy

Good strategy. Hopefully your walk made you feel better. Shake it off, we all make mistakes.

I had a week or so where I was really struggling myself. I am finding that in the last few days, I am feeling better about my food, and not having cravings.

This too shall pass!

AD, the important thing is not that you ate 2 cookies, but that you were satisfied with 2 cookies. Food is not inherently bad, I know you know that, so that we can eat whatever we want really. It is a real challenge to make them NOT be trigger foods. Good job. I think actually that is more important than NOT eating two cookies. emoticon

I think that makes you queen for today! Maybe even for the whole week, month, year, etc!

Thanks.

I have coded locks on both my front and back doors. They were more expensive, but I am so glad that I made the investment. Otherwise, I would be locked out myself! Hope your dog feels better for his grooming.

HAPPY

Sounds as though you are having the same kind of weather we are having. I am enjoying it greatly myself.

DUSTY

I sure hope your chiropractor can get your back into place. That is too bad.

OOLALA

For me, there is no ideal weight. I am doing the best I can to have "progress, not perfection"

I know you are doing the same.

Had my friend Nancy over for breakfast this morning. We had a lovely visit. She is going to be in a play in April, so she brought her script with her, and I helped her run lines. She is the one who is going to direct the show that I am going to stage manage in November. I am looking forward to being involved once again.

It is warm and sunny, but very windy. We sat on my enclosed front with a couple of windows open. I have the house open now, just not all of the windows because of the wind. It still feels great.

Was going to the pool today, but have decided that I am on vacation, so am just hanging out today. Will go tomorrow and Friday. I have walked some this week, so I will feel as though I have gotten good exercise.

In the past, my problem has been the same with exercise and food, I must do this, I must do that, or if I don't, I feel guilty. Well, guess what, I am staying home today, and I DON'T feel guilty.

That is why I say, "progress, not perfection". It is so much healthier for me emotionally.

God Bless all, and have a great rest of the day.

Bonnie

The rain here in North Idaho turned to snow, sounds like we are in for 6 more inches the next two days. More treadmill inside exercising and dumbbell flies along with crunches.
emoticon For dinner it will be Zucchini squash steamed and Asparagus and a few shrimp on top fresh green salad with grapes.
Enjoy

Just want to tell everyone I posted the BMI site so that you could see where you fit in with the normal BMI range. It's rather interesting to me that people are going to the ideal weight section. Even though the author cautions against aiming at weights that are too low, the ideal weights tend to be pretty low, if you compare them with the BMI, and if you see where they put you in the percentile category. But if don't feel you have to torture yourself to get there, great! I'm not willing to eat much less than I do at this point, so I won't be getting to my "ideal" weight soon! emoticon

You know you're getting old when you pick up your 2 yr. old grandson and your back goes out! Ugggghhhh!. No exercising for me today. Never had that happen--I have shoulder and neck problems, not back problems. Guess I'll be visiting the chiropractor:( Everyone have a great day. Hoping the rain stops and the sun comes out soon here:) Keepin' the faith...Dawn

Hello everyone! I am getting a late start today. I have been walking and enjoying the outdoor the past couple weeks. We have had some rain, but overall it has been sunny 70-80 degree range. Finally getting the hang of the tracking system here. Hope everyone is having a successful day! emoticon .

Hello everyone. Nice forecast here; walking still.
Had Oliver (10 lb dog) shaved down yesterday, even though I locked myself out of my apartment all morning. I really need a second spare key around here for when my Mother is unavailable.

Good Morning,

I have to confess that I ate a small piece and small scoop of ice cream yesterday at the monthly birthday party. Lemon cake. It looked so pretty and yummy sitting on the counter, all yellow and white and fluffy. It ended up being my lunch so it worked out. Not very healthy but it sure was good. Not too many were there so some were taking an extra piece home for later. Even the Sheriff stopped by for cake and coffee. He's our pastor and has bible study here once a week and sells us fresh eggs from his chickens.

Dinner was just a quarter of the leftover baked chicken. I had intended on making a salad to go with it but never got around to it. My friend called and needed someone to talk to and that ended up being three hours. I was very surprised when I looked at the clock and it was 11 pm. I was kind of hungry but decided not to eat anything. I just drank some water and went to bed. My nose was all stuffed up and woke up at 3 with it dripping like a faucet. Finally fell asleep at 4. I feel some better this morning but during the night I felt like I was getting a sore throat. So far so good.

I lost a pound yesterday so it all worked out. Breakfast was two eggs, mashed potato patty (fried) and two pieces of toast, then a banana and an apple later so I did get some fruit in yesterday. I will do better today.

Have a great day everyone.

Auntie, it won't hurt you to have a cookie or muffin every once in a while. Make sure you eat a good breakfast every morning and bring an apple or other fruit so you won't be tempted so often. It's hard not to eat the goodies when you are hungry.

It rained and was windy all day yesterday and today is overcast and dreary so no sun expected here any day soon.

Garvco, congrats --- keep it going and yes to healthy eating!

Auntie, be strong -- maybe if you look up the calories and sugar content on the food chart it will give you some incentive to be good. Ok, maybe one ---

Hubby had a good visit at the docs yesterday --- I was so worried about what he was going to say --- so today will be lighten up and smell the flowers and watch the butterflies and enjoy life day. Blessing to everyone, Sammi

Kathy yup over on the next ridge there is a nice older ranch home for sale. lol come on over.
I soaked up a pot of beans Sunday night to have this week if I was busy working and I got to deliver some gravel and spread it today but still had plenty of time to grill up some fresh fish over the fire this evening that I caught down on the river, along with a black bean soup and a fresh green salad.

The treadmill and I will be together for 45 minutes, then do my crunches and dumbbells. I can't wait for good weather again to exercise outside. LETS ALL DROP 2 lbs THIS WEEK !

DAHLIAGROWER Sounds like your goals are perfect one then another, I know it has and will take me along time to get my weight where it should be, I dropped 40lbs and now working on 15 lbs . This fall I am going to work on my last 10lbs! Enjoy

Bonnie,
I like your posts. You include all of us, even when we don't post something. I feel part of the group and it's helping me stay on my nutrition plan.
I said i only wanted to lose 23 pounds. But it really should be 43 pounds. i just couldn't face such a big undertaking at one time. But I think when I've reached my goal, I am going to stay tuned into this group. I'm not the only one with challenges, physical aside from the extra weight. I read what's written, and I would have been discouraged yet all of you are so cheerful. I admire you.

What a crappy night, poor baby. Glad you finally called your SIL.

Hope today went better. God Bless.

BRENDA

Glad you were able to give comfort to your friend. You are such a sweetie.

When I read the posts, I had something to say to everyone, but I am really tired and so is my back,

Will just have to say God Bless and have a great evening.

Very busy day. Great day, but I am exhausted. Walked 28 minutes at the park, in increments of time, and read my book in the sunshine in between. When I was done, moved my car into the sun and finished reading my book. Bought a piece of carpet for a room I am working, stopped and talked to my friend at the local electronics store, and the TV I am buying from him is in. Lower price than I thought. Once I get the room finished, he is going to come over with the TV and hook up my computer to it, and it will then be my computer monitor. So I can sit in my easy chair and be on the thread.

Hoping I can figure out a way to make myself comfortable, but I am sure it will be better than it is now.

Pretty excited.

God Bless my friends, and wishing you a great evening and a great day tomorrow.

Hi, I am still painting. The new support group is great. About 12 people, all ages. Sunday 3 of the gals from the new support group met me at a nearby lake and we walked for an hour and then had dinner. Gosh, walking with someone makes it fun........not even like work. Yesterday was a bad day. First the toilet overflowed and got the rugs and everything wet. Then the smoke alarm went off at 5am. I put a new battery in it and it wouldn't stop chirping. After a while it is like a Chinese water torture!! I was moving my bed so I could paint that wall and the headboard which sits on the 2 nightstands fell off and knocked 2 holes in the wall. Finally I called my son in law. He helped me pick up the headboard. I hate it when I can't do something myself!! Anyway, I am off to the grocery store, the library and Target. I did get out my pedometer. Now, I need to use it. The scale is still going up up up.

Welcome to all the new people!!

Later, Lynn

OOLALA,

Well. I've been to the site and found out I am overweight and should weigh 126 for my age and height. I don't know when I weighed 126 last! I need a couple toddler's to chase around. emoticon
Thank you for the info. I saved it so I can refer back to it.

Mumsy, good for you getting your walks in. Yesterday was a beautiful day although a little windy and chilly. Heavy rains coming today so I won't be going out today.

Yesterday was our monthly council meeting to set our calendar for April and I found out that our neighbor/maintenance man's wife passed on Sunday. So sad. She had a stroke several years ago but got around pretty well, only being able to see straight ahead and she had such a great personality, always made us laugh. We discussed taking up a collection for him as he doesn't have much money so I came home and got $20 and took it to him for gas. Ruth, our treasurer was there finding out his situation and then going to see how much we can give him from our treasury to help him out. I sat and visited with him for a while and then told him I needed to go home and make lunch and he asked me if I wanted to go to Wendy's. I tried to talk him into going down the street to our local restaurant instead but that didn't work. Anyway, I told him I'd drive so we left, stopped by the PUD and paid his light bill and by then he decided he wanted to go to the Ribeye instead and have a bowl of soup and water so we went there. We didn't want the soup du jour so we ended up sharing a pulled pork sandwich and an order of french fried sweet potatoes. He got his water and I had iced tea. I paid for lunch although he tried but I wouldn't let him. Then he wasn't ready to come back home and wanted to go to the outlet store that sells western wear and looked at belts. I tried to buy a pair of moccosins but none in my size so we went to the Goodwill and wandered around there. I found a basket, a little clown and a jug of Awsome cleaner and by that time he was ready to come back. Poor man is just lost but he will be fine in time. He is just getting over knee replacement surgery but is going up and down the stairs pretty good now.

Short night last night, don't know why I couldn't sleep past 3, finally got up just before 5 so I will no doubt be taking a nap later on. Today is the monthly birthday party with lemon cake and ice cream.. I'll go down and not eat the cake, just take my coffee.

News Flash! Eat chocolate and lower your BMI. A new study just out said you need to eat it on a regular basis but only a little bit. Only two pieces out of the box. Yum!!

Have a great day.

Founder, wanted to mention it was a DOCTOR that told my mother I should lose weight. I know at the time I was a bit heavier than average for my height, but girls were pretty slim back then. Yet, I wonder what he was thinking. Was he really worried for my health? of thinking I would keep gaining? But for an adult, that would be a very acceptable BMI. Our average weight in the US has gone up over this time, but I don' t think the BMI stipulations have as I think they are calculated on world statistics. Anyway, it's the past now and my job is to go from here.

Just for the heck of it, some of you may be intrigued by this interesting site where BMI which is a set formula, is matched against data in the U.S. about weight by gender, height, and age. Thus, an 18 year-old who was 5'3" and weighed 120 would be lighter than 59% of her peers, but a 48 year-old of the same height and weight would be lighter than 94% of them! That shows how much people put on as time goes on, though it also reflects that we have been getting heavier in all age groups since the '70's. Now, for a 48-year-old woman to be lighter than 59% of her peers, she can weigh 152 pounds! And her BMI would put her in the overweight category.

Sorry if I'm going on too much. Here is the site if anyone is interested. BTW, they have different comparison charts for men, even though BMI is not different for men or women. www.halls.md/body-mass-index/bmi.htm www.halls.md/body-mass-index/bmi.htm

Bonnie-I'll have to check the article about eating on a budget. Interesting "experiment" DH decided to try a few months ago-and I joined in. He surprised me by saying he wanted to try eating cereal for dinner most days and eating a good breakfast and making lunch our main meal. So we have been doing this for about 7 weeks. It's nice to not worry about what's for dinner. I usually will cook something in the AM and it's enough for him to take the leftovers for his lunch the next day. I find that we are eating a lot less-meat wise and we're not as hungry during the rest of the day and evenings. We usually don't have anything to eat after 7PM and I can't believe the difference in how I feel. On weekends, we've been eating "normally", having gone out to dinner with friends. Actually it feels strange NOT to eat cereal. I just can't believe, my husband came up with the idea and is sticking to it pretty much. He's lost some weight because he's not eating as much. Curious to see how long we can stick to it-especially now that spring is here and the neighbor's BBQ's will be starting up LOL!!!

@Kathy-thanks for the response about my ? for the Spring Challenge. I will be sure to keep May 12 in mind.
I've been doing very well tracking everything I eat and miles/steps I take. Yesterday I logged 13,624 steps...woohooo! I think I'm getting to enjoy walking (and dancing with my little grandson) We're back to cold weather here in NY. Only 35 today and getting below freezing tonight:( Not good news for our apple orchards in the area. Hopefully, we will warm up quickly again. We were so spoiled for a few weeks. I had to get a grip and realize we still have to finish March and then April.
Glad to be back here on SP. Enjoying reading where/what everyone is doing! Happy Monday Everyone!!

So nice to come here and see all of this positive growth. You all sound very good.

Oolala

I can so identify with what you are saying. People have no idea what the things they say mean to a child. My great niece is 8 years old, just the age when I was first affected by the fat police, and she is a bit chubby. She has already had some cruel comments from kids at school. I am praying that our family support will be enough to get her through until her body slims out again. Her older sister was the same way, and now she is has no problem.

I also agree with the wisdom that comes with age, and the feeling that we are more important than anyone else's opinion of us.

I don't think it matters if you have 100 pounds to lose, like me, or 10. It is the same issue. We have to learn to love ourselves unconditionally. Not an easy task.

DUSTY

Congrats on the walking AND dancing! It has gotten cold here also, but the sun is shining and that always keep me going.

Dahliagrower there is an option to remove meat from your nutritional program . Open your Nutrition tracker and scroll to the bottom of the page. You can edit/change your goals there.

Vicki, i am subscribed to a daily spark on facebook, and today's hint is how to eat healthy on a limited budget. I found it very interesting. We always seem to plan our meals around meat, but it doesn't need to be that way. in fact i shouldn't be that way as meat is often high in calories and fat.

That's a very mature way of looking at it. Although I am losing weight slowly, and intend to be in it for the long run, I also am comfortable with who I am and I'm doing this for myself, and those who do not value me right now, are not the people I chose to be around. After all those years when I tried to be whatever and whoever people expected me to be, are over. I just came to that conclusion recently, and a great burden was lifted. I had cried over a situation about a month ago, concerning a group of women, and now I can say that they don't matter. I matter.

Hi, Dan! I have a sister retired in northern Idaho, around Post Falls, if you know where that is. She and her husband love it, after a lifetime (mostly) in SoCal.

Founder, I didn't have as much weight to lose, but my turnaround didn't come until I was 56 years old, after more than 40 years. I wasn't really heavy back then, but the trouble started when my mom was told when I was 12 that I should lose ten pounds. I weighed 120 at 5'3". Body hatred, sneak eating, shame, disgust... It varied over the years.

I've also been on a maintenance team for 50+ers (though I just got to goal) for awhile. Seems to me for some people, getting older means coming into themselves in such a way that they can accomplish things they never could before! I guess enough is in place or we accept what's in place enough that we can be more forthright and patient at the same time. emoticon

Six years of maintaining a 20% weightloss and counting.

I am with you. Working out outside, walking swimming, whatever you do, is so much more inspiring! Hope you get to do so soon again. In the meantime, hope you find some way to enjoy the treadmill!

BERNIE

You have hit the nail right on the head! "establishing new habits". Congrats on losing 9 pounds, but if you are learning to change your lifestyle, losing weight will come naturally. We have been having a discussion about the scale, and I am glad to see that you are looking for changes in other places. The scale can be so $^*& fickle!

Welcome. Afraid you are right, I haven't been to the introduce yourself thread for years! Actually forgot about it. Maybe I should check there from time to time. I am just very devoted to this thread.

MICHELLE

I do enjoy my neighbors most of the time. We have an occasional person who forgets what time of day it is, and plays the radio too loud in the car, etc, but mostly we do fine. I, of course, let them know that that is not acceptable. They are all good about it, they know I am old!

I did get my glasses. I do like them. After I got them, I see they are not terribly different than the old ones, just have a big of bling on the sides, a bit bigger, and a lighter color. So, actually no one has really noticed. That's ok, I like them.

Hope your teaching went well.

FIONA

Glad you figured out a way to make yourself feel better. Good for you!

SAMMI

I know which song you mean, but can't remember it either. Enjoying the journey is a great way to put it. I have been on this journey for 4 1/2 years. Have lost 70 pounds, gained back about 36 pounds due to the inactivity, pain and depression before my back surgery. Now have gotten back to almost 50 pounds off, and am doing the best I can to get the other 20 off again. My main victory is all of the weight I have not regained. My history would put me back at about 350 pounds if it were not for my journey.

So, that is what I am trying to do every day, enjoy that day as my life, and then do the best I can.

I have had this weight issue and emotional issue in my life since I was 8 years old. I am now 62, so that is a lot of years to change habits and ways of thinking from. Even though I have so much more weight to lose, I concentrate on the positives. This thread, and this site keep me going no matter what. I am very grateful.

One day at a time is a wonderful thing! Thanks so much for the encouragement!

RW

I had my lawn mown about a week ago, and it needs it again already! I think I am going to spend all of the money that I saved NOT paying for snow removal on mowing!

KUTLUOLSUN

Welcome to the thread. We will be very glad to have you. We have some folks from different parts of the world, which is very exciting for me, but no one in Bucharest. We will love getting to know you. Come aboard and enjoy! Many of us are having unseasonably warm weather also.

Not much sleep last night. Just one of those nights. Got enough sleep this morning to be able to feel pretty good throughout the day, but am dragging a bit. Going to get to the pool this afternoon.

Wishing you all a great Monday! God Bless

Bonnie

Good morning from North Idaho - The rain has started and will continue threw the week looks as if all the snow will be gone by the weekend.
I had a simple 1 1/2 cups of cheerios this morning then I will walk on the treadmill for 3 miles ( I would rather be outside ! ) Then have a piece of live grain bread warmed up with 1/2 T no salt butter and a Banana for a snack about 10:30. Last night I put some black beans in to soak to make different recipes for the week.
Enjoy

Please do join our group, Kutluolsun. I've been participating in the conversations for about a month now, and everyone has made me feel very welcome. In fact they kept me going one day when I was feeling very sad and discouraged. This is a wonderful place that we've discovered.

Good Evening from uncharacteristically-warm Bucharest. Do you all mind if I join you? I've been reading the thread -- you're all so supportive and I don't really have anybody here to cheer me on. Job keeps me busy 60 hours a week so this is going to be hard.

Bernie,
Welcome to our team.

RW,
All our cherry blossom trees in Maryland have bloomed out and today the winds will blow some of them off already. For the first day of spring it sure looks it around here this year!

Welcome Bernie --- you sound like you are on the right track --- don't be in a hurry --- losing weight slowly is a good thing --- it is more likely to stay off ---
Fiona, good for you!! It's good to feel good.

It's a little chilly after being so warm for the last few weeks --- going to warm up later today. Hope everyone has a terrific day.

Bonnie, keep on doing all that good stuff -- step by step.
Trying to remember the words to a song --- something like enjoy the journey as well as getting there. Blessings, Sammi
