BRENDA

I am still laughing about you starting the snow by opening up the windowshades! Glad it is not sticking much.

MICHELLE

Hope yours is all gone by tomorrow. It sounds as though you don't get too much snow in Tokyo. What is normal there?

Good luck with the cataract. My mom and dad have both had both eyes done and it was very successful for them. Wishing and praying that your surgery will be easy and very well worth it.

We had rain and colder air this morning. By this afternoon the sun was out and it was 59.

This morning as I went to the east side of Toledo, out to where my nieces' live, as I came over the bridge, it just all of a sudden was very foggy. It was a bit foggy on this side of the river, but such a change as I got to the other side.

The kids were playing out in the sun this afternoon, and by the time Grisson got home from work, at about 6:00pm, it was foggy once again. He said when he left work that it was 59 degrees as he came home it took a 9 degree drop and the fog came on!

Not too bad getting home, but I chose to go surface streets and use the lower bridge. I could see, but it was limited.

Crazy weather here. I think it is supposed to be warmer and better tomorrow, but not sure.

Hope you all enjoyed your extra day of February. Yea March is on the way.

DALE

I guess that you could look at it as an extra hour of daylight, but I do not enjoy the process. Good for you for looking at the upside, and congrats on doing well.

I always hate this spring forward stuff. When I was working, my body would take at least 2 weeks to get used to it. Now that I don't have to get up early so many mornings, I am usually ok in a week or so. Guess I am just a sissy.

Personally I would like them to keep daylight savings time all year long. I can do with out the change!

Plus, my cat is always so confused about what time she gets her meals. Poor thing!

Well, getting tired, so will get my other stuff done and go sit down.
Happy first day of March my friends!

Checking back in. It has snowed off and on all day long but none has stuck here. Other areas got a few inches of the wet heavy stuff and a few cars lid into ditches but no major injuries that I have heard of.

To all you newby's, just a note to explain where I live. I live in low income senior housing, a HUD building and our rent is 30% of our income. Our apartments are 550 square feet but they have a lot of closets and cupboards. I just happen to have too much stuff but I made it all fit after sending a lot to auction when I moved here last June. I had a huge two bedroom at the other place but they raised the rent and I was dead in the water so I broke my lease and moved out. This is a much smaller place and most residents are a whole generation older than me, not a nursing home but it looks like it with all the walkers and wheelchairs. I cook my own meals but they have a lot of potlucks and food events and I don't often attend them except when the chef comes to make us lunch for $3 each. Today it was baked chicken legs, corn and purple mashed potatoes and chocolate cake. He didn't make the lemon cake. From now on he will only come every other week because most are getting tired of it and say they can't afford it. Myself, I like him cooking for us once a week. I now have money left over to buy things I need instead of doing without. It's pretty quiet here but I keep myself busy sewing, crocheting and playing games on the internet. I will be glad when it warms up and I can go out walking again. We live on a steep hill.

I have most of the pieces cut out for the tote bag so now to figure out how they go together. It's like a puzzle but I will get it put together one way or the other. I just don't know how long it will take me.

Have a good evening.

Wow, it's snowing in Tokyo and Washington state. [Raining on the east coast.]

Besides Happy Leap Day, did you realize yet that we get our extra hour of daylight on March 11th? That's a full 9 days before spring hits the calendar. I'm all for these good pieces of news. Things to look forward to short range!

Day 15 = 135 lbs

Again I go out to lunch tomorrow but cannot eat with the women. This discipline is HARD. But every meal I don't have, afterward I think "I just saved those calories"... I can't over eat on medifast, that is for SURE.

Happy Leap Year Day!

Wow the snow is coming down in ernest right now. I slept late, until 8:30 and when I came into the living room and opened the blinds, the snow started. It was like it was waiting for me to turn it on. LoL We might get up to three inches today and then it's supposed to go away.

Michelle, I have had a cataract in my right eye for over five years and it hasn't gotten any worse so far. We are just watching it. The eye doctor told me I will know when I need to have laser surgery, I will be 70 April 2nd.

Today is our chef day. He's making chicken and mashed potatoes and some sort of vegetable plus a huge chocolate cake and a lemon cake. Yesterday was our birthday bash and they had pineapple upside down cake but I didn't go to the party. I intended to but then the phone rang and I missed it. I did go down to make an appearance. They offered me some cake but I declined. Seems like all they do here is eat. We got a huge delivery of assorted breads so I got two loafs of whole wheat, the good kind that is almost $4 each. I don't know which bakery donated it to us.

I have cut out about half of the tote bag I'm making for that nurse. Wow, the patterns have changed since I last used one, probably 40 years ago. The instructions are not what they used to be so this is going to be a real challenge. Now she wants to know when I will be finished with it. LoL That is a good question.

I'll check back later and tell you if we got the predicted snowfall.

Hi all I have been off all week! hard to catch up on all the posts. Went to the eye dr. on Monday; I have been diagnosed with a cataract in my left eye! I didn't know people my age (51) could get them. but I do have very bad eyes. Have been wearing glasses since I was really little. Surgery will be right around the corner.
We are having lots & lots of snow today! It's very unusual for Tokyo, but being from Detroit, it is so refreshing! Now, if I could only walk in it!!!!

Thanks, I have been having that song in my mind since you posted part of it yesterday! Love it. I do remember those people singing it, can actually see them in my mind.

Love it myself.

This was my early morning, and long day for the week. Up at 6:00am, home at 6:00pm. It was good, not really busy, easy day, just tired and glad to be home.

Wishing you all a great day tomorrow.

Back is getting tired. So must do what I need to and get off.

RW Good to see you old buddy!

Good afternoon.

Had another busy day. I had blood work done this morning, then took mom to Hattiesburg for eye check-up. She's getting new glasses. We just got home a little while ago. Haven't done too good on my eating today. Maybe after mom leaves & things slow down some I can think about my food more. I haven't had time to walk any this week either.

Oh, Well. Try, try again.

High Hopes

Writer(s): cahn/van heusen

Next time your found, with your chin on the ground
There a lot to be learned, so look around

Just what makes that little old ant
Think he’ll move that rubber tree plant
Anyone knows an ant, can’t
Move a rubber tree plant

But he’s got high hopes, he’s got high hopes
He’s got high apple pie, in the sky hopes

So any time your gettin’ low
’stead of lettin’ go
Just remember that ant
Oops there goes another rubber tree plant

When troubles call, and your back’s to the wall
There a lot to be learned, that wall could fall

Once there was a silly old ram
Thought he’d punch a hole in a dam
No one could make that ram, scram
He kept buttin’ that dam

’cause he had high hopes, he had high hopes
He had high apple pie, in the sky hopes

So any time your feelin’ bad
’stead of feelin’ sad
Just remember that ram
Oops there goes a billion kilowatt dam

All problems just a toy balloon
They’ll be bursted soon
They’re just bound to go pop
Oops there goes another problem kerplop.

Sung by Frank Sinatra, Doris Day plus a few others

Don't punish yourself with food. Whatever is done, is just that, done. Begin again from right now. I agree with Brenda, we must be positive and loving to ourselves. Mistakes happen, you do not have to feel guilty, that is the worst for you. We are so used to beating ourselves up for any little thing we do wrong, or things that we make INTO big things, don't go there. What you eat, what you weigh, has nothing to do with your value, or your worth. It is just food, NOT EVIL!
God loves you, so now it is time for you to do the same. God Bless girl.

BRENDA

High hopes, he's got high hopes, he's got high apple pie in the sky hopes. Can't remember the rest of the words exactly, but that ant COULD move that rubber tree plant! Now that song is going around in my head! Not really a bad thing, I can move that rubber tree plant as well!

LYNN

Glad to hear you had such a lovely visit. You too can get yourself back, you had a little "vacation". No big deal. I am sure your visit was just wonderful. Also know that your family loved being there with you.

DALE

I think I missed congratulations on your loss, so now, congratulations!

ANNE

Hope you had a lovely walk today.

I had lunch with my friend Kate and we had a nice visit. Hadn't seen each other for awhile, so we got to catch up.

Not much eventful, but feeling pretty good about it all.

God Bless and hope you all are doing well.

emoticon Yay, it's Monday!!! = Long walk day for me (until I get back to running in the spring)

It was emoticon but very windy this morning on the trail, so I only walked 7.5 miles, but it was at a good, consistent 4.2mph pace, so no complaints.

Happy Monday everyone!

Well, I finally figured out how to do a double screen so I can flip back and forth refreshing my mind on the posts. I knew how to do it a few months ago and then I just went brain dead. I hate that when it happens. It's 28` out this morning, the skies are very bright for a change and the ground is almost white with the light snow flurries and wind that went on most of yesterday. I have been sleeping through the night for the last week and it sure feels good to wake up refreshed. I really hate the dark days when I have to turn on the lights during the day. Saturday night I went downstairs to check my mail and Mike, Ruth and Barbara were in the community room visiting so I asked them if it is ok if I borrow a fold up table so I can start my sewing project. Taking all my stuff downstairs to use a table is just too difficult because when I am doing a project I need to focus and I can't when people keep interrupting my train of thought. I intended to cut the fabric to start making the tote bag but the table is still sitting in my hall propped against the wall. I made the mistake of downloading a new Jewel Quest game and spent all of the weekend playing it. But now it's Monday and a new week and lots of natural lighting so I have no excuse not to start my project.

Dale, hang in there and eat that cardboard food. LoL It sounds like it is finally starting to work. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it is. Getting out and walking in the cold is challenging. It makes my teeth hurt. Living on a hill, I don't go out if it is the least bit slippery.

Lynn, it's good that your family came to visit for a few days. You are lucky to have them close by. My family never contacts me but living here we are all family and all get along together.

Mary, I have been thinking about you and it's good to hear from you again. Glad to hear you are doing fine and you get to go to Florida to visit your friends. Keep in touch as you can. We are just a click away.

Maci, when I can't sleep I turn on the light and read for an hour or so and then I can get back to sleep. No way would I be able to get up and get on the internet and then be able to go back to sleep. It sounds like you slept too much during the day. The only time I do that is if I am sick. There's an old song that runs through my head that says, "You've got to accentuate the positive, eliminate the negative, latch on to the affirmative, that's what it's all about". I think it's an old Dinah Shore song from a movie.

Kathy, I love the joke. Thanks for sharing. I just received the same one in my email the other day.

Have a good day. I have to stop procrastinating and get busy.

Hi All,
My youngest daughter and her 16 month old boy were here for 4 days. Wow, I am exhausted! Grandma's house isn't very childproof. lol It was so good to see them.

I got on the scale yesterday and YIKES! I am back on track today. I think it was the eating out that did it. I don't go out to eat much...maybe once a month. Last week I went out 5 times!
It is still too cold for me to walk outside. I find that eating better has a bigger effect on my weight than exercise, but I know that both are important.

Have a great week, Lynn

It was a little cooler than advertised today, but still nice enough to get my walk (Idita-Walk) outside. Only 40 minutes today because tomorrow is long walk (5-7 miles) day.

Got some low-carb, low-fat bran muffins made for the week, and made hubby his favorite, Banana, walnut bread, so we're all good to go, in the baked goods department!

Sounds great going to Florida. Enjoy it all as much as possible. Hope you are enjoying your water aerobics.

Had a pretty good day today. My friend Diana came and took me to the grocery store, and then we went to lunch. Boy, it really hurts me to walk around the grocery store. Am kind of afraid to carry stuff up the steps into the house, so she brought it all in so I could put it away. Have done it on my own, but only with a small amount of stuff. Kind of stocked up today. They had red raspberries and blackberries for $1.29, managers special. I bought quite a few. I will wash and then put them on a cookie sheet in the freezer. After they are frozen, will put them in bags. Of course, I will eat some in a little bit just plain. Also had Strawberries for$1.25. YUM

Did some laundry yesterday and today. That is something else that is hard for me. Going up and down the steps to the basement, and then standing down there hanging my clothes up on hangers.

The other thing that is a bit difficult is cleaning the cat litter. Going to do that tomorrow. All of the hard stuff will be done for this week. Yea!

The sun is shining today so I sat on the couch in the sun and read my book.

Hope you all are enjoying your weekend.

I am

Day 12
164.5 (the scale jumped down) just in time to waylay my "discouragement rehearsal" to drop this fast. Guess I'll keep on the regiment for now regardless of it tasting like a cardboard menu.

Mild cold keeps me on alert. So I go back to sleep in the morning. Then I have to wait an hour to eat anything because of one initial pill to start each day. So I feel like the grand sacrifice is going on here. All the energy I'm supposed to have may be depleted from the cold, it's hard to say, but it's so nice out that I must make myself go for a good walk anyway.

And so it is.

Happy Sunday, friends! I haven't been on the February thread yet---and it took a long time just to read what's happened in the last week! But I do think of y'all and hope all is well for the most part! School is consuming my time and energy but Spring Break is in a couple of weeks. I'm visiting a friend and her husband in Florida for a few days and I'm looking forward to that.

I've gone back to water aerobics a couple of days a week and am trying to make time for at-home exercise more often. I see that there are so many things going on here that I can relate to---no, MY mother was the Queen of Guilt, lol! Lynn, 'What would people think?\' still goes through my mind on a daily basis! She's a delightful 91 now, sharp as a tack. But growing up the guilt weighed heavily on my sisters and me! I try for balance most of the time!

I have report card conferences tomorrow and am a little over halfway through with my forms so I'm running away now.

Hugs to all,
Mary

Hi sparkfriends, It's really late or early depending on how you look at it. almost 2am. I can't sleep, but I feel ok about that. today after Addies softball game both hubsand I crashed for 4 hrs, than I feel asleep while watching a movie w/him. Those lil girls wore us out! teehee. Today I woke up with a thought, it was that I am letting some things in my precious life in that don't feel so good, even if it is my own attitude sometimes, so I decided to take everything that is happening and add just a spray of happiness to it, Like doing the dishes, watching tv w/hubs etc. It was amazing how much less of a drab those things felt, just by a change of energy. I couldn't stop staring at hubs thinking how much I love him. NOw I always love him, but not while watching tv that much! Made me think about how I have been letting others attitude effect me in life, nomore! I am gonna change who I play w/if they can't change being bummer heads around me. I was in church the other day and the preacher said "just turn your head and change direction when mean or cruel things come your way" You don't need to change anyone or anything, just get out of the way. anyways Life is to good and as I always say "I am to blessed to be stressed and to rich to bitch" now I am gonna add, "I'm turning away from mean today!" Other than that I am on track w/my wt loss and looking forward to tomm.

Tomm hubs and I are starting out w/going to a new church w/DD and fam. Having 2 couples over to walk the beach and watch the academy awards, and just going to enjoy relaxing w/them both! Life is good.

Oh Kathy, I can't stop laughing.

That is so funny, and feels so real.

I had a breast reduction over 8 years ago, so before that my mammograms took at least 12 to 13 slides. Can I identify!

Sorry RW, look the other way!

It is a good thing that there is no candy bars in the house, I am feeling so much stress right now, There are 3 lil 5yr olds in my living room watching TV. The house lights are off and they are all bathed and in their pj's, you would think they could finally quit talking and moving! OMG the energy is extreme! They keep arguing about everything. Who sits where, etc.
We also have 2 9yr olds in the other room watching the sound of music. and they are just heavenly. These 3 5yr olds are more difficult than having my whole girl scout troop over. Hubs is trying to calm them down. It's like having 3 puppies in the frount room. They keep saying mean things to make each other cry. or laughing hysterically or my favorite the screaming! . I guess it's time to join them to calm them down.

Today I had a stressful situation, I am so ready to quit being team captain, I have one women who is always questioning everything I do, and it is exausting. I have found that being the leader has it's good and bad things attached.grrr. ,
Today was a good day, good tennis and shopping at cosco w a friend than a day of gkids. Now it's time to shut it down and relax. Life is good, time to notice! Good night girls time to slow down the monkeys!

It really is kind of funny to realize that even though we have some of the same issues, that we don't have ALL of the same!

If I was at Brenda's, I would have eaten ALL of her candy and cookies way before they could have gotten stale!

If I want something, I buy it, and then I can be done. But it can't just sit around the house. It thinks it needs to crawl into my mouth and down to my stomach, where it then goes to my butt, belly, etc. Well you get the drift!

Tonight we went out for Max's 8th birthday. I had a lovely chicken salad with just a bit of dressing and enjoyed it much. Brought the other half home.

I did that because I wanted dessert. So, I had a child's hot fudge sundae. Not, I have had it, and am over it. If I had bought a bunch an brought it home, I would have been in trouble.

Guess we all have to figure out what it is that will work for us. I do know that deprivation will make me binge like crazy.

All I can do is work towards not being so crazy about it when there is a lot of it. One of my small changes that I have to work very hard on!

Went to the pool and spent over an hour exercising and actually did about 15 minutes of swimming

My therapist reminded me that my surgery was not even 5 months ago, I have been telling myself it has been over 5 months, but she made me realize another thing that I do. I expect more of myself than I should. She said that I probably won't be totally healed until it has been 1 year, but at 6 months it will be better. Kind of brought me up short. Good to have someone to do that for you.

Well, wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

God Bless

Bonnie

Right now because I'm just day 10 of this medifast, I'm not touching any foods outside the plan. But normally I need to have some kind of dark chocolate available so that binging does not occur. Even the semi sweet choc chips for baking, which live in my freezer, can do the trick. If I'm craving ice cream I can build a yogurt with fresh fruit and walnuts and some semi sweet chips. That's going 'all out'.

I find a good dark chocolate never puts weight on me because I'm reasonable with portion control. When I'm not, I leave it out of the house for a couple months til I've built the discipline up again.

When I moved last June I found three giant chocolate bars in my refrigerator that had been there for two years. My friend ate them. My Halloween candy sitting on the coffee table is the mini bars, Twixt.

I buy the small bags of candy -- one dark and one of the bite size heath bars. Some days I will eat one and most days I don't eat any -- I find if it's there and I want it good -- if I try not to eat something I want then I will eat a lot of other stuff trying to satisfy my craving. Keep them in the frig -- the heath bars have been there for three or four weeks.

Hope everyone has a great weekend, Sammi

Closet eating. That is something I have never done. Sitting on my coffee table are the Halloween candy bars, probably a half a bag. I have all sorts of junk food here but I don't eat it very often, I just want to have it here, just in case I want some. It stems from my growing up years when we didn't have a lot of food. I get comfort just knowing it is here.Stale cookies are in my cookie jar that I bought when I moved here last June. Of course, living alone food lasts a lot longer than if I had a lot of company or a roommate. I got a bag of donuts from my last trip to the food bank and cut them in small chunks and took them down to the community room. I did eat one little piece.

When you eat in the 'closet' you are not fooling anyone because your body will tell on you.

No problem, you can have some pie! Don't deprive yourself. Just try to be reasonable.

Speaking of reasonable, I so know what you girls are talking about with the candy. I almost NEVER buy candy, but I know when I am at my nieces' homes, there is also something, and I am the same way. Not perfect, but better than I have been. One day at a time I can do this.

Thanks for the Spark Goodie. Always makes me feel good!

Have a great day all, I am heading for the pool

Good morning.

I went out last night with DH. We had a nice dinner. I did good until dessert. I had salad & boiled shrimp but my sweet tooth took over. I ate some pie.

Katy & Maci, I'm with you---I am also a "closet eater". I do not keep any junk food & hardly any processed food in my home. I have come to realize, & ashamed to admit, that I am a food addict. I never was one before, but through bad, bad habits! I have become that way. All of you help me stay on track! Thanks a bunch, everyone!

Maci,
I can SO relate to being a closet eater!! People at work are always admiring my healthy salads and my "healthy" eating habits. Little do they know what I do at home when no on is around! Sigh..... I can't keep junk food here, either.u

My thought about messing up on our eating plan, is that if we didn't have a problem we wouldn't have to have a plan in the first place. There are foods that I just cannot have in my area w/o overeating them. So when I want them I go get them, just one serving. Donuts would be one of those foods. IF I had donuts around my home, car, work etc. forget it! I keep a running list of "forget it food" for my home. I restarted my list in Jan. Hoping that some of them could be brought back in. So far no such luck! I have been so on track, and I opened the cabinet and hubs bought a bag of mini candy bars. I managed to close the cabinet fast. Try to forget they were there, than when everyone went to sleep I decided "Oh just one" well you all know the story! First 1 than I was unwrapping those lil candy bars and inhaling them as fast as I could. Secretly! I managed to leave afew in the bag. well my gdaughter found them today and brought us out each one. I ate the other 3 left. I could of shared with the kids, but no, My gdaugh went back to the bag to get us each another one and says "Gma there was another one for each of us, it's gone now" grrrrr. I made her a sherbert ice crm cone instead. I have sherbert instead of ice crm because I can get only one serv at a time. It's not easy but doable. Good news is that the candy bars are all gone. and it is on the list now. No more candy bars! I wish i was one who could contol the goodies in my wake, but hey that's why I am here to learn not to bring them in again. I can still have a candy bar, but next time it will be only 1 outside my home. That is always a much easier place to not binge at. It's the secret eating that always gets me in trouble. Good news is that it is in my nut log, and I didn't completly blow the day, I just had to have fruit for dinner! no biggie I will not die from eating fruit today. HOw are you all doing?
