I know there must be a Nov thread somewhere, but don't see the link here, so just hoping someone will post it for me for the next time I have a minute to check in.

I have been able to blog from time to time, but not keep up with the thread.

Just want you all to know that no matter, you are all still in my thoughts and prayers!

God Bless

I tried the recipe I got through sparkpeople e-mail today; Slow cooker Salsa Chicken -- it is delicious! Just thought I'd share.
Thinking of you this evening Mary as you treat the kids who come to your door. I know you will be thinking of your husband when you see those silly ones come to your door. I live in the country, so we never get anyone. I used to take our boys to the neighbors around us.

Oh, to be a grandmother!! Congratulations, Sandi and LW....what a wonderful thing to have in your life.

Auntie Darling, do take care of yourself. Another of my Spark friends has a sister in the hospital with pneumonia and it can be so serious. Take it easy!

RW, what a hoot!! I love your stories.

Thanks for the positive thoughts, Sue. We had a great Halloween parade and party today. Then the kids went home at noon and we had 2.5 hours of inservice! Tricks on us, lol...we all thought WE got to go home at noon, too! Oh, well...enjoy your great vacation.

Maci, it sounds like you're back on course. Good choices on limiting the candy snacking.

TJ, I think any losing is hard...and the last of pounds seems really difficult. Hang in there and post when you can!

I will turn my lights on at 6 and off at 8. This will be the first time to 'do' Halloween without my husband sitting in his chair making glowering looks at the waaayyyy too old teens and adults who come with huge pillowcases to fill!! We don't get many kids and I don't want to worry about opening the door too late in the evening.

I need to go do my strength training!

Congrats LW! My first grandbaby is due any minute so I know how excited you are. My knitting needles and crochet hooks have been flying for months! What fun!

Hey Happy Halloween to everyone. Haven't read posts for a couple of days. RW, I love your humor and makes me laugh -- "can't read mom's writing" emoticon
Sue, glad you are safe and sound in Malaysia. And Maci, a trip to Venice - wow! I sure can relate to your "baby steps". The past week I didn't even step -- just backwards! So frustrating, but my fault with all the sweets around. I was able to get in 3 days of excercise, so not a total failure. I just wish I could see some numbers go down on the scale.
Along with getting my new puppy, I found out we are going to be grandparents for the first time! I'm so excited. Need to get my knitting needles going, as I have the yarn ready for knitting a little blanket.
Hope everyone has a good week, and a healthy one!
Better get busy; beautiful day here in Kansas.

Happy Halloween emoticon

When our son graduated from high school, he had to give a speech. He began by reading from his prepared text. "I want to talk about my parents the wonderful influence they've had on my life," he told the audience. "They're a shining example of parenthood, and I love them more than words could ever do justice."

At this point he seemed to struggle for words.

(Story continues below)

After a pause he looked up with a grin and said, "It's really hard to read my mom's handwriting."

Good Evening,

I haven't left the team, I've just been hiding. Losing the last these last 20 lbs, have been really difficult. I'm about to buy a new scale! Work has been stressful (a problem co-worker and hearing rumors about another layoffs.) Luckily, I'm still eating my fruit and portions. I believe my willpower buddy has left me so I'm doing this on my own. We bought candy for tomorrow but only the ones we like and less calories. One year we'll have lots of kids, next yr, none. So who knows what tomorrow will bring. I hope everyone is having a good weekend. I'll try to post more often. thanks for listening.

Hi all,

So far i've typed this 3 times and it hasn't posted it might be in cyber space and repost itself later.

I've been MIA for about 3 months family situation kept me at bay. Then I got sick. My dad has flown home to FL and is very happy to be in warm weather. He beat the snow by a week.

I've still got a cough and a touch of the pneumonia and it's driving me crazy. I'm working but they don't know I still have the pneumonia and it's not visible unless I cough. I'm hoping the new wave of drugs will help.

We had to dress up for Halloween day on friday and so I'm going to try an post a picture of my outfit. My friend helped me she loaned me the hat and I had the rest of the clothes in my closet ,black skirt and top and then I went to Joann's and got material to make a cape. I'm not much for dressing up but it came out pretty good however, the picture doesn't look so good.

Once I start feeling better I'mhoping to be on more and more and chat with you all. I've not read too many posts as they are so many they are overwhelming to get to them all.So i hope all my friends are doing well .

Happy Sunday, Spark Friends! I've got lots of school work, house work, a funeral home visitation and church....a big day today.

Sue, your trip sounds wonderful. I have several students from Malaysia. I hope you have a great time with your son.

Maci, I go through those periods where I'd eat anything but brussel sprouts! I love ice cream. I bought some slow churned the other day--less calories but still a full flavor. Frozen yogurt is great, too. Toss yesterday and look forward today. Drink an extra glass of water and take that walk. Here's to a new day and a New You! I'm glad your gkids had fun with you.

Brenda, I've never paid attention to the Homestead Exemption before. We'd get a postcard in the mail saying that if our circumstances hadn't changed, don't do anything...we still 'qualified.' For what, I don't know! So now I have to 'reapply' in MY name since my 'circumstances changed.' It's not like I MADE Dave die! They make a hard life even harder. Yes, it has someting to do with the taxes but I'm not sure what. We paid our house off in '09 but the taxes are still several thousand, due at the end of December. I figured you'd be either snowed in or getting there, Brenda. Hope you'll be toasty. Your very productive day yesterday sounds like just what you needed. I'm so glad you get 'out and about' even if it's in your building!

Okay...I need to be productive. Happy day to all, and stay warm!!

Hey Maci..baby steps? that's a good start :)

Wow, your trip sounds absolutely awesome. We were there for 2 weeks. I've never been to Venice but I really don't think it's like Vienna. Next Oct. we're taking a cruise that will take us to Vienna and we would like to spend some time there to visit...I can get some good info from you :) That cruise will also take us to Rome and Naples but we will never see what you will..the experience is so much better doing it on your own and you get to see so much more too. Wow, I'm excited for you.

We got to Malaysia 2 days ago...our son works here .. this will be our 2nd winter here and we just love it..right now we're in Kuala Lumpur but he thinks that we would really love an island in Thailand called Koh Samui and he was just talking to us about driving there. So that sounds exciting too and we would get to see a lot of the country side.

I'm still a bit jet lagged but doing much better than last year. I'm not quite into the exercise mode yet either but started to eat a bit healthier...today was rough..I was so hungry all the time...my body has not gotten used to this heat yet either...it's very very hot...in the 90's

Hope you got your walk in for bkst :)

Enjoy the rest of your day..we're 12 hours ahead here so I'm off to bed :)

Hugs
Sue

Hi Sue, thanks for the comment, I feel really good right now, I managed to do my goal, My hubs brought home from the party across the street last night, a huge plate of mac and chz. and we did share it, but hey no sweets! Baby steps! Today I feel rested and ready to tackle the day tomm. I think I am going to suggest we put on our walking shoes and walk to bkfst, One of our fav things to do.

How long were you on your vacation? Our plans are to take the Italy Rail from Venice to Florence, to Rome, to Naples, then from there to the place where you get a ferry to the greek isles. By the map it says it is approx 3 hrs to each. WE really don't know if it's doable but it looks like it. have you done any of that before? Also Jim found a night train to Paris that you leave at 8pm and get there at 8am. So all travel time is sleeping, only $50 a person. Most of our time we want to be in Venice though. Is Vienna the same as Venice? or close? Thanks again for the encouragement. Happy Sunday to you!

Hi all, I am happy to say i am here posting, it is the only thing I have done today. actually I am in the same pjs that I slept in last night. Total lazy day. The only exercise I did was go to the cubbord and open mini pks of gummy captain america snack packs. I think I prob ate about 30! Than downed almost a 1/2 gal of ice cream. I did the naughtiest thing I told hubs that it was halloween wkend and he deserved his fav beer to enjoy, oh and while your at it, pick me up some Ice crm. OMG what is happening to me? I can't even imagine putting in my cals, they would be off the charts. I am not a believer of bragging about doing bad, but really I don't know anyway to stop eating like a crazed person w/o using sparks to share my secrets. So... My goal tonight is to "not finish the ice crm or the gummys" Thats the best I can do today.

Todays good news is: My gkids couldn't quit talking about how much fun they had the night before, my gson and hubs got him all set up and off to his scout camp, and yesterday my hubs told me to book tix to Europe! 16 days Nov 21-Dec7. My cousin lives in Venice and we are gonna start our trip there. We were set up to go last yr and the volcano erupted and we were stopped at the airport. This is a huge trip for us. Once in a lifetime. Life is good but I know the only way to feel good while living it is to do things I am proud of. Eating like I did today isn't a day for the books. At least I am here today sparkin, that I can be proud of. Happy Sunday all!

Welcome back Maci! It's good to see your cheery posts and that you are doing well. I wouldn't worry too much about the tracking right now. You have to make up your mind what you want to do and when you do that, things will happen as they should.

Mary C, What is the homestead exemption? It sounds like it may have something to do with tax rates? Our weather has changed to colder, windier and rain the last few days. Snow in the mountains by the end of next week. I live in the valley so hopefully we won't get any snow any time soon although weather reports say we will have a long cold winter.

I spent all day yesterday down in the community room sewing for the sale next month. I donated a big tub of baby flannel that I have been lugging around for the last six years waiting for someone to sew it. I had good intentions to sew layettes but never got around to it. Now that gives me more storage room in the closet. We made a crib blanket white with pink ballet shoes (quilted and tied) and all that needs to be done now is the border. Then we tied a Cristmas quilt and I finished the tree skirt and two stockings. Lunch was a slice of pizza and a hunk of carrot cake. not very healthy but it filled the void. LOL I have two Elvis purses to finish for Joice down the hall that she has ordered. All the money we make goes to our treasury and we use it to help others in our community.

Sending good wishes to everyone here. I'm not going to try to reply to everyone, kinda tired this morning. Have a good weekend.

RW, I always enjoy your stories. Glad you're back and had a great trip!

Maci, your lack of initiative is mine, so you're not alone. I'm getting more exericise than I've ever gotten but as for my calorie intake? I just seem to drift. I'm eating well 2 out of 3 meals, then I'll blow it with an 'overportion' or a handful of this or that. I keep telling myself that it's okay---and for the most part, it IS. I'm not downing a carton of ice cream or a whole bag of candy, etc. But I'm not accountable to myself or anyone else for what I'm eating. Life's dilemmas don't go on vacation! Hang in there.

I have a very busy day today but I'm starting off with a good breakfast. Hope you all have a great Saturday!

Good Morning team !
I'm back home on the computer once again and it's a lot easier to post and keep up from here rather than by cellphone. Raining all day yesterday so we left Kissimmee a day early and made it home. It's been raining lightly and overcast , maybe clearing up late today.

Mary was married to a something of a chauvinist. They both worked full time, but he never did anything around the house and certainly not any housework. That, he declared, was "woman's work."

One evening Mary arrived home from work to find the children bathed, a load of wash in the washing machine and another in the dryer, dinner on the stove and a beautifully set table, complete with flowers. She was astonished, and she immediately wanted to know what was going on.

It turned out that her husband Charley had read a magazine article that suggested working wives would be more romantically inclined if they weren't so tired from having to do all the housework in addition to holding down a full- time job. The next day, she couldn't wait to tell her friends in the office. "How did it work out?" they asked.

"Well, it was a great dinner," Mary said. "Charley even cleaned up, helped the kids with their homework, folded the laundry and put everything away."

"But what about afterward?" her friends wanted to know.

(Story continues below)

"Oh, that part didn't work out," Mary said. "Charley fell asleep in the laundry room."

Lynn, it's been awhile since I have posted, I was so sad to see that your hubs passed on, it made me cry. It sounds like you are on the move and figuring out how to keep going. I am so sorry.

Hi all, I am sitting her it's almost 3am. Last night was a blast, we took the gkids to their school carnival than on to a haunted house. Than came home and watched Adam's family on the pull out couch. Everyone is sacked out there now.

I have not been working on my wtloss at all, I can feel the fluff racing back on. I just can't seem to get into any real schedule to it . Luckily I am still playing tennis like mad so at least I haven't stopped moving. I keep thinking something is going to make me care again, but everything seems so boring. Do you ever do that, wait to care? Hubs and I just got out of the Jacuzzi and our talks were all about what others around us were doing that could be changed, we didn't even think about what we were doing that might need a nudge. What I am lacking is my daily sparks, my meal planning, my focus on wt loss again. Other than a sneak peek into my life as it is, I miss all you sparkies and hope tomm brings me to sparks again. Happy Halloween wkend! ~Maci~

It's FRIDAY, friends and I'm soooo happy! We had a field trip to a play today, with lunch at a lovely park. Problem was that we've had gorgeous weather lately with highs back in the 8o's. Today the weather was wet and windy, blustery and cold! vThe kids enjoyed themselves but the teachers and moms were way too cold. But not as cold as a lot of y'all!

Lynn, have a safe trip. I'm so glad you're having good days. You'll continue to have them...then once in a while you'll be totally overwhelmed. That's normal...and don't let a bad day signal that you think it's always going to be like that!

I talked briefly with my attorney who also asked what a car registration had to do with a homestead exemption---so at least my question to 'Margo' at the appraisal district wasn't out of line, lol. I will get my new registration next week, mail in a copy, and hope that 'she' grants me my exemption that Dave and I had for the over 30 years in this house!!

I'm so tired and didn't open a new window to look back and see what everyone wrote---that works so well and I love the opportunity to be able to toggle between the windows and type!

Happy Friday to all of you and a peaceful, fun weekend.

We arrived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia yesterday morning after a very long flight from Canada via Chicago. I plan on doing some walking today and I'm actually having my first fresh coconut water this morning..it is actually Sat. morning here cause we're 12 hours ahead.

I will have eggs for breakfast a bit later on and I'm hoping that my bowels will not reject them...I've been having this problem (D) for quite some time now with eggs. Otherwise I plan on getting back on track with clean, healthy food and exercising.

Wishing everyone a great weekend

Hi All,

Just a quick note to let you all know that I will be gone for a week. I am going to Mpls to look for a place to live. I am staying with my daughter and her family. I love spending time with the grand kids. I am going to my grief group tonight and will leave early tomorrow. I will be back on Thurs so I can make it to the group next Friday. It's about a 6 hour drive. I will have Maggie (my cockapoo) with me.

Have a great week, Lynn

Sounds good to me. I am only in the 2 month range and have only lost 7 pounds but I feel so much better with more energy. Hit a stumbling block this week with a knee problem (torn cartilage) but usually with a little TLC I can get it back in place and get my exercise turned up a notch.

Hi everyone,

Sounds like everyone is keeping busy and recovering well from the surgeries. My neighbor and I are still getting in our walks as much as we can. It gets dark so early now though.

My weight has been staying steady. I guess that is a good thing. I have about 5 pesky pounds that I just can't drop. But then again, I haven't been as serious and careful about what I eat all the time. The good thing is that I have stayed steady now for about 5 months and not gained it back.

Good morning everyone! Today I am going to my breast cancer surgeon for my bi-annual checkup. I am now four years past surgery. I'm sure everything is fine - but anticipation always causes me anxiety.

PT is coming along fine - although I overdid it on Tuesday and have been told to slow down a little and still use my walker when I'm tired. I just want to be free of all assistance (I know I'm stubborn). I'm trying to behave.

Glad to report my little Teddy Bear is still not showing any signs of trouble. The vet gave us a nutritional supplement to replace whatever nutrients the tumor causes him to lose. It seems to be helping for now. We just want to love him for as long as possible.

I cannot believe my soon to be grandbaby is almost here - any minute now. It seems like just yesterday we found out. I cannot wait!

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the healthy wishes, I am improving each day. This morning I took my 17 year old DD to some educational testing as we are finding she struggles in essay writing and other large items of info like that. We want her to have some strategies in place for college next year. I have a couple of hours to kill so I'm visiting my friends here. It is nice having a day off work.

Lois - I love the four seasons as well. Right now my "burning bush" is so red and vibrant!

Bonnie - you seem to be doing amazingly well. I believe our attitude has a huge impact on our recovery from things.

Lynn - glad to hear you had a happier day yesterday and they will become more frequent as time goes by

Brenda - your sewing sounds nice and productive - it's important to keep our hands and minds busy with good things

LW - I had a frozen shoulder about 5 years ago and it was so painful. I actually had surgery to correct it and lots of pt after. Feels good these days. Take care of you.

Mary - I'm still buried in supplies at work but tomorrow a co-worker said she''ll give me a hand so that should finish it up.

I better go for now. I still have to make a pasta salad to take to a church pot luck tonight and go back and get my daughter.

Have a super day everyone!

Lynn, good luck to you on the sale of your house. Hopefully you will be able to be back with friends and family. As Brenda said one day at a time. After 40 years, there are good and some bad days but there is a strength that gets us through.

Bonnie, great to hear how well you are doing. Pool therapy is great. I certainly helped me a great deal. Lately I have been concentrating on my walking but need to get back into the pool.

Brenda, I just read your post - you are amazing in keeping up with everyone and everything.

It has been some time since I joined in the chats and hope everyone is taking good care of themselves. There is nothing special going on in my life right now. I am able to be up and about and take nourishment plus getting some steps in each day. Got the patio put to bed and covered the AC and ready for winter. Fall color is pretty much gone and with all the windy days we have had most of the leaves are gone - sad but beautiful at the same time. I always look forward to the first snow fall and waking up to the frost on all the trees and bushes - beautiful. Time to settle in and wait for the first signs of Spring and Summer. I truly love the four seasons with all the they have to offer.

Take care and tell someone you love them.

Lynn,

I hope your home sells quickly so you can get on with your life and get settled where you want/need to be. One day at a time is all you can do so just do what you can, when you can. I think that when a crisis happens, we have an inner strength that takes over and we do things we never thought we could do, and then just deal with it. I never thought I could live alone and now it has been five years and I am a stronger person now with just myself to depend on.

Hi All,

I had a realtor over yesterday and one is coming today. I hope to get the house on the market asap. It sure does motivate you to clean the place up. lol Yesterday was the best day I have had since before Kirk died. I know it was just one day but it gives me hope for the future.

Bonnie.....I am glad you are feeling better. I know it will be a long road...but your attitude is very important and you are a very positive person.

Sandi....you are making such great strides...congrat on the cane!!

Take care my friends, Lynn

Bonnie,

I have finally figured out how to do the double screen to reply to others because I can't remember the details of all the posts when I get to the reply window. Intention's are good but the mind doesn't respond, LOL I do miss having a deck like I had at the other place but we all have to make adjustments many times in our lives. We do have nice outside areas to sit including a covered patio with comfortable seating.

I'm glad you will be hitting the pool for your therapy.

Penny,

Having a chest cold is not a good thing to have and am glad to hear you are on the mend. Eating more veggies is hard to do everyday. I have been stocking up on frozen veggies for the winter when I can't get to the store. Canned veggies are only for emergencies.

We are all here to support you when you have your surgery so keep us posted.

LW,

I'm sure the National Guard ceremony was very emotional and glad you got to attend. Do you have a family member in the NG? A new puppie! Good for you to be able to get one. What did you name her? She will be a lot of company and comfort for you. A resident downstairs has a little dog named Ted and when I first met him he growled at me and backed up. I guess he thought I didn't belong here. Now he runs over to me and licks my fingers and lets me pet him. He is a cutie.

I hope you get your shoulder unfrozen soon. Is it painful? Back issues are not a good thing to have so I hope it isn't anything serious. Keep on pluggin' and weight issues will take care of themselves over time with healthy choices.

Sandi,

You are progressing very fast for the hip surgeries. Glad to hear you have ditched the walker.

Mary C,

Don't worry about geting behind with the posts. Just do what you can and the rest will follow. Life just keeps getting in the way.

Les Schwab Tire is just down the street from here. They will check batteries, tire pressure and rotate tires for free even if you haven't bought them there. Of course that is my place of choice because I know (being a woman) that I can trust them not to rip me off plus they guarantee all their work. They have sold me tires and batteries, fixed my brakes and replaced the u-joint over the past few years.

What exactly is a homestead exemption? And why do they need your car registration information?

You can turn your old jeans into a purse instead of tossing them. I found a pattern and have yet to make one but I plan to in the next few months now that I am more settled here.

'Man works from morn' to sun, but woman's work is never done'. Teachers need to be added to that list! You certainly have your hands full with all you have to do but you are doing it. One good thing is that is keeps you busy but you need to make sure you have some 'me time'.

Lois,

emoticon on the new great-grandchild!

DEBLOVE2RIDE,

Welcome! I'm glad to hear your life is right side up now and you have things under control. This is a great team with lots of support and good articles to help you along your journey.

MOBYCARP,

You have come a long way in your journey and now being in maintanence mode is great to hear. I gave up salt and drank too much water and got my body out of balance and caused me a lot of problems but everything is under control now that I have cut my water consumption in half and added a little salt to my food. I was washing all the sodium and potassium away, Found out I have an extra hearbeat but nothing to worry about.

RW,

I really enjoy your jokes so keep them coming. I know you are having a great time and will keep us posted as you have time.

Our temps have dropped to 30 last night and I added two throw blankets to my bed. I never have the heat turned on at night so I sleep better. The fog has been present the last few mornings.

I hope you all have a great day. I am going to go fill up my gas tank and see if I can find a generic zipper foot for the sewing machine I have fixed up to sell to my neighbor. Keeping busy sewing things to sell for our up coming sale to raise money for our treasury. A lady donated about 200 yards of cotton fabric so we have lots of selections. At the moment I am making little purses and finishing a tree skirt to raffle off.

Sorry you have been ill. Glad you are some better, but don't overdo, there is a very nasty virus making the rounds here, so might be the same where you are. Take care.

Keep us updated as to your surgery date, etc, so we can send prayers.

LW

Hope your shoulder is better very soon. Also the back.

Glad you found a sweet new dog.

Good luck with all of that.

SANDI

I am very glad that my surgeon wrote me a script for the water therapy. We have quite a few places around Toledo, so I found one not too far away. My mom will take me at first, but think I can begin to drive in a little while.

Had a good day today, just one more day closer to being active again!

God Bless my friends.

Hi Friends,
Just starting to get my steam back after a terrible chest cold. I walked in the rain (only a drizzle) and it felt great to be moving out in the fresh air. Staying within calorie range but I know I need to eat more veggies.

Good luck to everyone working through big pains and little pains. You motivate me. I'll need all of you when I have my hyst. in December, so be ready to support my moans and groans. emoticon

I haven't checked the messages since Saturday. Good to see what everyone is doing. Bonnie, the aquatic excercise sounds like a wonderful idea. I don't have a place to do that here.
Sunday I attended the National Guard welcome home ceremony. Wonderful! Good to see everyone in this troup made it back safe and sound. I also got a new puppy Sunday evening. My lab died in July and haven't gotten another dog until now. We now have a red lab, 13 week old female and she is a sweetie!
Yesterday I met with my orthopedic surgeon who did my shoulder surgery in Aug and found out I have a frozen shoulder now. Good news, I'm at least 70% okay; now I have to work on getting it to 100%. Frustrating, as I just had an MRI for my lower back done. I try to be healthy, but seem to keep having trouble spots pop up. Weight isn't coming off very good either, but that is my fault because the eating habits aren't where they should be yet. So, I'll keep pluggin' away!
I am encouraged to read the other messages, and see that everyone has struggles but you all keep at it.

So glad to hear you are graduated to a cane! Yea! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Enjoy your walk. Glad it is a nice day.

I feel as though I am following in your footsteps! You are very encouraging to me! Not sure how you were able to have both hips done at once, but I guess that is one way to get it over with. Brave Girl!

I will begin aquatic therapy on Monday. Think that will move me forward a bit faster. It is a nice day here as well, so will be going out on the deck to take a couple of walks. Will enjoy the sunshine and fresh air.

2OLD

Glad your knee replacement went well. Wishing you the same great results with the other one!

KATHY

I see from Mary C's post that you are working hard on your food and exercise. I am a bit behind on the posts, so I will say good for you now!

LOIS

Also see that you have a new great grandchild. Congrats to you as well.

MARY C and LYNN

Prayers and good wishes to the both of you for your losses. God Bless my dears.

Having a pretty good day today. I am usually pretty good when the sun is out!

congratulations Sandi! That is a huge milestone - you will make great progress now that you are more mobile! Those PT sessions are hard, but so worthwhile. I had a total left knee two years ago and now lining up to have the other done, putting it off as long as possible because PT is so hard.

You are a brave sole for getting both done! congrats

I am woefully behind in even reading the posts, much less trying to respond. My Honda has some sort of computer issue, but luckily I got a coupon in the mail for a big discount for oil change, rotating tires, etc. as well so i will make an appointment to get The Works done hopefully this weeekend!

I had parent teacher conferences today and they went well. Three cancellations are rescheduled and then I can breathe!

Sandi and Bonnie, it seems that your therapy is paying off...I'm so glad you're both on the mend.

NJ, I love your costume idea. Yes, those bad calories create havoc in our closets and they are NOT nice! They are the original What Not to Wear!

Lynn, I'm so glad the support group was a good one and that you can be with nice people. The woman in charge of the one I went to last spring left me a message that ours is starting up but I just can't afford to take time off from school. There are 2 groups but they both meet in the daytime. I HAVE to work...I'm spending over a thousand a month more than I bring home! So there's no more grief support group for me. Thank all of you for the support online!

I hope you have a great trip, RW. Enjoy those grandchildren!

Penny, I hope by now you've distributed those supplies. Our secretary gets quite out of sorts with that kind of thing. It's a hard job to be the 'one in front!' Hope you're feeling better by now, too.

I called the homestead exemption people when I had a cancellation today, Brenda. I have to get my new registration that's not due til next month and send in a copy. I have to reapply and maybe I'll get the exemption...but who knows. When I was thin I could wear Gloria Vanderbilt...I still have a pair of 10 jeans that I can maybe get 1 thigh into if I joined the seams, lol. They are cut too slim for me now. But I can wear Lee Riders and they have them at Walmart---only $15 or so!

kathy, it sounds like you're on top of things with your workouts and eating! Good for you! I'm doing okay...still sad of course, but being a teacher keeps me so busy I can't give in to it very often!

A great grandchild, Lois? How wonderful. HOpe everything goes well.

The national guard homecoming ceremony will be so special, LW. What a wonderful thing to do.

I'm waving to all the other new friends and am off to grade the papers I didn't get to see due to the conferences today. A job that never quits, lol....

Hi Everyone:
I joined this team last July and my life kind of turned upside down for awhile, but hopefully everything is settled and I am back to my regular routine. I really want to loose about 30 lbs before my next knee replacement, makes PT so much easier.

I am looking forward to reading your posts!

Hmm, the November challenge . . . what have past challenges done for me?

I joined SparkPeople in mid-July, and didn't do the July challenge here.

The August challenge was JEMS. It solidified my getting exercise every day and staying in macronutrient ranges. It also got me to look at each day as containing some success, even if minor and ongoing.

The September challenge was miles and clean eating. The miles part probably didn't change anything I did, but the clean eating part got me to give up salt on my morning oatmeal. Now I have oatmeal with a variety of different flavorings, but no salt and no sugar other than the natural sugars from the raisins.

The October challenge was kind of a pick your own goal and do something different for movement. I picked the goal of achieving weight goal, which wasn't far and has been accomplished. For movement, I picked incorporating running into my normal exercise. That's on track. I might have got both of these done without the challenge, or the challenge might have helped me stay on track with the running. It's hard to say.

The lesson I draw from this is that I get more benefit from less comfortable challenges that someone else picks than from a challenge I set for myself. So I might not be the best person to ask about what to do for a November challenge. If I were to say what helped me reach goal the most, that required a change in what I was doing anyway, I'd have to say making an effort to get 90 grams of protein per day. I'd challenge people to get enough protein, while staying within your calorie, fat, and carb ranges. I'd define "enough protein" as the higher of the minimum the SP Nutrition Tracker tells you to get, or 60 grams for women / 75 grams for men, or a higher number if you determine that you need more than 60 or 75 grams. The 75 grams number comes from a SparkPeople article that said 60/75 for women/men, but the Nutrition Tracker spits out 60 for men until the low end of the calorie range gets up over 2400.

But take that for what it's worth. I probably won't be signing up for the November challenge no matter what it is, because I'm more focused on figuring out maintenance than on losing weight now.

Checking in from NC. The weather is cool here mornings and gets from 40 degrees to mid 70's by afternoon. I love this weather and the colors of Fall.

Love your new picture. Have a great time at the party.

Hope the rest of you are all well.

RW have a great vacation.

Wrote another blog, so I can communicate with both my threads without sitting so long.

Been working hard, to recover, and am sore, but good!

Have a great week my friends. God Bless

everyone is sounding pretty darned good here................. Im so glad to see that.

I have a Halloween masquerade dance to go to next weekend........................ so Im thinking about a costume this week. I really want to go as a skinny person..................... - very funny right? well thats out of the question ................. so Im also thinking about going as a personal trainer.............. leotards- some kind of bright colored leg warmers - crazy laces in my sneakers - tights or stretch pants on my legs and a sweat band around my head in some neon color and some kind of and a loose baggy sleeveless gym shirt over it all . Not sure if thats what I will end up with but I think I have almost all of it between my closet and my 2 daughters so thats probably what I will do. Plus its an easy outfit to dance in. I can glitz up the makeup with fake sparkly eyelashes and bright colored lipstick. I will be sure to take pics.

Im thinking about our Nov challenge..................... looking for ideas............

everyone enjoy this bright sunny sunday .
