It's cool and autumn-like today, and I'm trying to get myself re-energized. Took a break for a couple of days--out to dinner with friends, long, stressful work week--but now I'm ready to tie my shoes and get back to business. I know that Spark has become a habit when after two days of more indulgent eating and missed exercise I WANT to get back on track.

Bonnie,
The problem was that the Orthopedic Group had moved their facility and they had a hook up problem with their new building. I am ready with drugs in hand, hahaha. I'll let y'all know how it went this time around. The good news is that it is feeling better and I feel I'll be back to normal in no time. emoticon
Y'all have a great Spark'n day. Stay your course. Stevegolfdog

DARN. Once you are all ready and then nothing! Was it an outage because of the huricane weather, or are you too far inland to be affected by that?|

Hope all is well there.

I guess I needed to drink a little and act very silly and laugh a lot, because, I slept really well last night, and feel much calmer this morning.

I have not been gaining weight, I was up 1.2 pounds yesterday, so I consider that about in the proper range to maintain, but have not exercised enough in the last 10 days or so, and my body is very sore and achy, and I never feel the same when I am not exercising. I did get into my own pool the other night for about 1/2 hour, and that did help with the aches and pains. I am going to call the Y and make sure the pool is open from being cleaned, and go swimming today if it is, or just go and work out if it isn't. Have an appointment with Laurel for my massage this afternoon. I usually go every 3 weeks, but she was on vacation last week so it is 4 weeks. In addition to not getting enough exercise, that is contributing to my aches and pains!

Well, at least I know what to do to cure what ails me, and am going to do it today!

I have to admit, I was so proud that I was not having emotional eating because of my dad's surgery and worries, but it seems that since the day my brother told me he was coming to see us, and throughout his visit, until now, I have not done as well. It was a wonderful visit, and I am very happy that he came, but even good stress takes a toll on your body.

Still am happy that it is nothing like in my past life, before SP, but have to admit, I am not eating as well as I would like either.

I think that the next four days when I do not have to babysit, will help get me straightened around.

I love my kids, but on the 3 days (it was 4 days this week)I am there so long that I have a great deal of difficulty getting in my exercise. Now that Ang has started school, I am there until at least 6:00pm or 6:30pm, sometimes later. On Wednesday, I sometimes can go home earlier, because Ang will take the kids, but this week, she had an open house to attend at her school.

The other problem is that Ellee and Gracee enjoy that extra evening time with me. Ellee is tired from the school day, so she doesn't really want to go to Ang's, just wants to be home, and Gracee would be with me anytime she has the chance.

I give them their baths, or showers, Ellee has begun to take her own shower, So that is actually easier. Since Grisson doesn't get home until late, he only has a couple of hours with them in the evenings on my three days, so I like to have that done for him. I don't really actually work very hard any more, they are all able to do many things for themselves.

I am just rambling on, I should be doing this on my blog, but didn't know I was going to get so long. Sorry.

Guess I am free associating to work stuff out in my mind. If you don't have time to read this, just consider it my mental exercise, and skip it!

The bottom line is I am going to spend the next four days recovering my serenity, and my eating and exercise routine.

God Bless you all! Especially for being so true and faithful!

Hope all went well for you.

Tired from the week, but must admit, I can't really concentrate too well to comment of the posts.

I have had a few beers tonight with friends, and I am really tired an a bit fuzzy right now.

Just checking in, have been sleeping a bit better, but know I can't really go to sleep until the alcohol is out of my system or I will awaken at about 3:00am and not go back to sleep.

Long week, tired, but let lose tonight!

Have a great day tomorrow.!

Good morning y'all!!!
Well, today is the redo of my MRI. I'll take two vicaden and one valum and ask them to put my head in a more neutral position this time around and then we will see, hopefully, the problem of my pinch and numb finger situation and all. It's tough getting older, LOL. Stay your course everyone and happy spark'n. stevegolfdog emoticon emoticon

Mira, glad you know what I meant. Not just picking on the old gents in general ; what I mean is there are looks and than there are looks. I still enjoy a handsome face but I don't give them an ogle.

Kathy- hope you get a good nights sleep tonight ... you too Bonnie.

I made it though the day , headache is gone but feel completely drained of energy. I call it the 'wet noodle syndrome' whole body feels limp. But tomorrow will be better.

DSIL was taken to hospital today she's been having colitis problems and today she collapsed. Haven't heard how she is doing say a prayer for her if you will please.

I'm turning in early tonight. Take care everyone , sleep well. emoticon

Hi everyone! Here's hoping your day went well. Mine was good but I started to crash on the way home from work (I woke up at 3:30 am) so I took a nap when I got home. DD and SIL cooked dinner for us tonight, so that was nice. :-) I think I will turn in early tonight and hope I sleep well.

Margaret, I had to laugh when I read your post about the geezers eyeing your daughter. When my younger daughter was about 17 she was waiting alone for her voice teacher and an older man made a comment in Spanish. She swung around and replied, also in Spanish, "Shame on you. I'm young enough to be your daughter." At least he had the good grace to apologize.

Happy September! Can you believe it's September already. Where has time gone.

It is interesting to read all the comments on body image. The mind is a crazy thing. And we are our own worst enemies. I am recently struggling with clothes not fitting as loose as they did a couple months ago. And I am only fluctuating 5 pounds at the most, usually 2-3. So don't know what that's all about but...But I feel crappy when I go put on a pair of pants that are slightly tight and then the self loathing begins. But if I put on something that is comfortable right away I am fine with myself. It's a work in progress. I still remember how during the time when I started losing weight I still would go to the bigger sizes and then be shocked and in denial that I actually was worthy to wear 3-4 sizes small. Weird stuff. It's all a mind set I guess.

Steve - good luck on your MRI (or the chamber of torture as I refer to it). Take the drugs!!!

Hi All,
It is funny that we all have stories about our distorted body image. I was 100lbs and thought I was still too fat. My mom was heavy 225-250. I remember her saying to me "Stop eating! Do you want to look like me?" But she always ate what she wanted when she wanted. Kind of mixed messages.

Margaret...it is interesting to see how we all got where we are today. Many different paths all leading to the same place. I hope your headache goes away. I like your new pic.

Bonnie...isn't it funny thinking back...who were those thin people? I feel like I know myself much better today.

Paula...I had the same trouble trying to post on here a couple of days ago. I guess I am surprised that they don't have more problems considering how many people are using SP.

Kathy...you are an exercising machine! I wish I had your motivation for working out.

Steve...I hope that you get some answers after your MRI. Is it an open sided MRI or are you going with the drugs?

I am off to work....have a good day, Lynn

Hi team, it's so fun to read all your posts.

Bonnie, Kathy- thanks for sharing your experiences, very thought provoking. Personally I think just taking care of yourself and trying to look your best, no matter what size or shape, is what is important. When I was a young I was very thin and was called all the usual names, twiggy, beanpole, stopsign etc., while in school. It wasn't till after school that I came to realize that I looked good and actually did a little clothes modeling for some posh stores in the ritzy part of the Det/metro area. There I learned it's all about money and position and well... basic snobbery. Very catty world and NOT good place for someone who has a compassionate nature. Well, it was fun to wear all the fancy stuff and show off but it wasn't for me and moved on to family life and 7 kids. LOL What is funny is , just a couple years ago I showed some of my portfolio pics to a friend of mine and she didn't believe it was me! OUCH!! But I'm still the same person, as a matter of fact, I think I'm a better person. I'm not struggling with issues about were I stand in all this "self image" stuff . If anything I feel bad for the young ladies now who have so many conflicting voices in society telling them who they should be.

Too much activity, too much striving after ...whatever... takes away from our peace. It is only in time spent in quiet and inactivity that we can hear God in our heart and it is then that we know who we are and whatever the world has to say doesn't matter.

So sorry I have written a small book!! It wasn't what I intended to write today, I was going to talk about my headache and laying around the house today. Oh well, thanks for reading if you made it this far.
Blessings,

Margaret

emoticon emoticon emoticon hello all.

i've been MIA a couple days. tried to post and it wouldn't load, either my computer or the site has been fritzy.

i have bee reading the "woman in the window posts". have one of my own. looking at vacation pics from the beach (last year, i think)... well looked at one and thought "who is that fat woman holding hands with my husband!?" oh dear.

it was also with such sadness i read some of the body image posts. i know i do it, too. but we'd prob all stop over eating if we could get rid of those feelings where we think of ourselves as so unworthwhile.

so, kathy- put on a dag-gone swim suit and go run around in the sprinkler with some one you love! i'm sure you look just fine.

bonnie- how's the new sleep mask going? are you getting used to it? your post about body image was very thought provoking.

margaret- how many baths is zahra getting today?

steve- thoughts and prayers for your MRI tomorrow.

suz- welcome to our little group. it's a good place to be.

i have to comment on some posts after i posted my updated monthly measurments. it wasn't 11 inches off my waist- it was 11 inches total i'd lost! wish it was off my waist. if i'd lost that much i'd be looking in the liquor store window at myself and saying look at that hot babe! okay i'm trying out for the miss america pageant! (well fudge, on second thought, naw i'd have to get a boob job first....)
emoticon

got to get to work. y'all be good out there.

Kathy, I can't believe how much exercise and walking/jogging you do. You will be down to your 120 pounds goal in no time. Emotional eating is okay, it's all about choices. Just pick the right choices. I emotionally ate my talapia with tomatoes, onions, capers, italian seasonings with large prawns last night, hahaha. Man that was good and filling with very low calories. I was looking for food to eat later in the evening. Anyway, stay your course everyone, stevegolfdog. emoticon emoticon

Good morning! I woke up at 3:30-ugh. Gonna be a long day, probably. I ran 5 miles yesterday and got in P90x as well. This morning, I'll do P90x and will do another P90x dvd this evening (missed a couple of days of it!).

Bonnie-You are right about people needing to resolve the emotional part of eating. If you think about it, food is a drug which many people "self medicate" with, just like alcoholics and drug addicts "self medicate" with their drug of choice. We have to learn how to manage our emotional issues in a healthy manner! Been there, done that! I was also on the other end of the eating disorder continuum in college-anorexic. Once I lost all that weight (I weighed 100 pounds! :-( ), I still thought I was fat! I had gotten so thin, once in the shower I thought I found a lump, only to discover it was my rib I was feeling. I never want to go there again. I don't want to be overweight, either. That was a bad feelng as well. I had awful back problems-couldn't even get out of bed without holding on to things and very slowly getting up. I couldn't bend over or down to get things. I'm so glad that's behind me. The best thing about Spark is I've learned to be kinder to myself and to like myself. Admittedly, I still have image problems-I won't wear shorts or a bathing suit. I know that is a shame I'm like that. I hope I can get over that eventually. Another great thing about Spark is this is the most stable I've been with my weight-no more roller coaster rides! I hope this continues.

OK-off to do Plyometrics-ugh.

Hi Team,
Had a nice if not steamy day. It was so warm I gave Zahra another bath and she loved it. hehe We were both soaked by the time we were done. My new profile pic is her and I just after her bath and I was combing out her mane. Such a sweet baby!! emoticon

Thanks Bonnie,
Well, I did play and play okay. I am having my MRI on thursday but I can swing a golf club. It does seem to be getting better but my finger is still numb and when the vicaden wares off, it starts to hurt. It does seem less. I ran into a physical therapist and he gave me hope. Anyway, y'all have good night. Stevegolfdog

Glad you are getting to golf, and sounds as though you are getting better. I hope so.

KATHY, MARGARET, and SUZ

Remember the camera, (or window) adds at least 10 pounds! So you really look better than you think!

I am also laughing at the brother/nephew story!

Well, girls, I have a "window" story, it is the same, but in the other direction.

When I was 28 years old, I lost 135 pounds, and weighed about 145 pounds. I was very slim, and tall, and always wore those high heels, so I thought I was pretty cute, don't cha know.

I lost my weight in 18 months, and had exercised quite a bit, so I was in good shape. Not in my head, though.

I was walking at the mall, and caught sight of myself in a store window, and DID NOT even know it was me. I was so thin, and it was such a shock to me. For some reason, when I looked in the mirror, I don't think I was actually seeing myself totally, you know what they say about anorexics and body image. I mean, I thought I looked good, but my image of myself was still skewed.

It was the absolutely strangest experience. I was actually so shocked that I felt almost kind of out of body, not able to actually explain it.

I tell this story because I think that is part of the reason that I could not keep the weight off. I never actually dealt with the emotional issue of eating, I just "dieted" very well. I never dealt with the self image issues, which I feel this example was a large part of.

Do I wish I had kept that weight off? You betcha! But, do I know why I did not? I know that too. I have finally learned here at SP that dieting is not the way to go, that there is a lot of mental and emotional work to be done, that I have to develop my own self image if I am ever to lose more weight and keep it off.

I need to be able to accept that the girl in the window is actually me, and to be pleased about it!

One more day in my ongoing journey, one more explanation found. I am working on me as best I can, and I know I am doing well. There are ups and downs, but I am also learning who I am, and how to best take care of me.

Yea! Spark People!

I had a bit of trouble getting used to my new machine last night, so I did not sleep LONG enough, but once I was able to go to sleep, I had a better quality of sleep.

Hoping that tonight, I get a couple more hours.

Still tired, but still thinking of all of you a lot!

God Bless.

Bonnie

I'm glad you asked, hahaha. Well, I used to have those stick pretzels and you can have a lot of them before you go over 100 calories. I stopped that for some reason. I guess I was getting sick of them, LOL. I now go for a nectorine or a pickle. I love pickles and they hardly have any calories. I know, the salt thing. My blood work shows that I have no problems with salt and I do so much stuff and sweat a lot, I probably need salt so I'm not concerned with salt. Anyway, I will have a low cal icecream sometimes but only if I have made room for that. That is the trick, make room. But, for the most part, I've stopped the munching for some reason. Oh, I did have gram crackers with non fat milk last night but I was looking for food to eat because I was way to low in calories. Good luck and it just might change over your time. Just keep thinking about it and it might just go away. Plan for it in your eating throughout the day. I'm off to play my favorite thing to do. Stevegolfdog

Hey Steve, what do you do for cravings, if you get any?

Usually in the evenings I just want to munch and that usually gets me trouble. I've heard how a persons body will mistake thirst signals for hunger signal and I know that is true for me ... well I wonder if a persons body can mistake tired signals for hunger signals.

What do ya'll think?

Good morning, everyone! Feeling like myself today, thankfull! I slept fitfully.

Bonnie-I sure hope you got some much needed sleep last night! I'm anxious to hear your night went with your new cpap mask. It sounds like you and the little girls had a good day. How wonderful that they are so well behaved. :-)

Steve-I actually eat at my lower calorie range most of the time. I suspect it's the kind of calories that is the problem (such as the Wheat Thins). I got CHunky CHicken noodle soup-the other stuff wouldn't have stuck to me long-would have gotten hungry in no time! I'm sure I'll get this figured out. I was just so darned frustrated this past weekend. I think adding/substituting fruit for my munchies cravings will help. Ahh-so that was YOUR hand I saw waving!! LOL ;-)

"Lady in the window"...I have a similar story to tell you. I went to the liquor store on Friday and they have a tv which flashes images from various security cameras inside and outside of the store. I happened to look up at the screen and saw my backside. Oh my!! It tweren't a pretty picture!! What a shock! LOL Hopefully in a couple months, it won't look so bad next time I look at that darned tv/camera!! You're right, Suz-cameras, mirrors, and windows don't lie, eh? Ugh....come on, we can do this you guys!!

Hi Margaret- I know what you mean about your daughter. A few years ago, I was out with my older brother (handsome and charming), and his son (also handsome). The waitress gave us extra special attention and my brother just kept flirting. He finally made a comment about her being after him. It took a sec to figure out what he was talking about and then I just started laughing. The look on his face when I informed him that she was probably flirting with his son- was priceless. I don't think it had even occurred to him. Yup- it's hard to accept that we're not the teens or twenty-somethings we once were. I've learned to never look in store windows again!

Hi Suz, I can identify with that "lady in the window" story LOL. What's worse is walking with your sweet and pretty DD and having the old geezers ogle her!! I'm afraid I become the overprotect Mom with the dirty looks for said old geezers!! LOL emoticon "Back off dirty old man." Don't mess with the Mommy protecting her baby!

Thanks for the chuckle and know there are a lot of us "ladies in the window" to keep you good company.

Hi all, seems I have something to say to everyone, but no energy.

I had Gracee and Brielle today for 7 hours, this is usually my day off. But Christy heeded help so I am glad to help.

My new Cpap machine and mask and hose came in today, so I am hoping that I will sleep better tonight. I think I mentioned that my old mask seemed to be leaking in the night, so I don't think I have been sleeping too well.

The girls went with me to the Chiropractor, and to pick up my mask, they were very good. Then they wanted to come back to my house and play, so we did, then went to Ang's for nap time. Ellee had her horse riding lesson, so I stayed with the girls and Max.

Keep fingers crossed that the machine will give me a good night's sleep tonight.

Thinking of you all, just too tired to think of what I want to say to you!

Best to all of you, congrats on victories, good luck on changes, and just keep on keepin' on!

We can do whatever we need together!

God Bless.

Did you buy the lite chicken noodle soup? I call them diet in a can, hahaha. If you are stuck, I actually feel it is because you are eating to many calories for you situation. Try to go to the low end of your range via sparkpeople. If you exercise a lot, which it seems y'all are doing, your metabolism with get better and you will become more efficient with how your body works with the food. It's kind of funny how it works. Just stay your course. You can redo your profile and see what sparkpeople comes up with. Good luck, stevegolfdog, BTW, I was waving backatcha, LOL.

HI guys-I know what you mean about being "stuck". Likewise, I'm not eating properly. I decided not to buy more Wheat Thin crackers when I went to the grocery store yesterday. I bought lots of fresh peaches, clemetines, and red delicious apples. I had a salad for lunch today: spinach, grape tomatos, yellow bell pepper and kidney beans. I only had chicken noodle soup tonight-I still feel a little sick so decided to take it easy. Hopefully, I won't get hungry later!

We can do this!!

Hi Suz,

It's nice to meet you. I have been stuck in the 150's for a very long time. I guess I am just getting lax in my eating and exercising. But, it's a new week and I am ready to recommit. I still have some clothes I can't get into. After that I will gladly buy new ones in a smaller size. Keep posting so we know how you are doing, Lynn

I know just what you mean about sneaking up on yourself in a store window. At 56 years old and 4 foot 10 inches, I've finally come to accept that I'll never be willowy--but sometimes the squat, grey haired lady is a surprise.

Had a rude awakening today. I was walking down a street thinking I look quite dapper in my skirt and top. I happened to glance in a store window and gasped, oh my God. The look on my face must have shown abject horror. I then started laughing because I was truly surprised and horrified at my reflection. Denial is amazing.

So- if I get the doc's okay tomorrow- it's time to crank up the exercise.

Thanks, Abby. I actually wound up deciding to go to work afterall. I have no way to get in touch with one of my clients and I did not want him to take the bus all the way to my office (takes about an hour or so) just to find out I wasn't there. I started to feel a tad bit better but it's been on and off throughout the day.

Been away from all of you for a few days.

Steve: I too waved at you in DC. Was an inspiring rally.

Bonnie: glad you had a good time with your bro and at the concert. I too thought Crystal should have won.

emoticon to all of you who have lost inches, weight and are continuing on a hard exercise program.

I will be back at the Y tonight for water aerobics.
Home today with no GK's. Washed floors, vacuumed, laundry and some outside work already. I have light wood tables so dusting is not on my list. And the dog dusts under the bed in storms and who looks there anyway. LOL! Sprinkler is going to get those plants watered. Another hot one today but humidity is not as high as before.

Have a new incentive. Florida in Dec. Now a big push for those last 5 lbs before I set another goal.
Friends say I look great. Still need to lose a couple more inches around the waist before I am happy.

Have a good rest of the day. Keep the Spark!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi team, just stopping by to say hello been busy the last few days and lost track of what going on with the team.

Bonnie- so glad you were able to go to the concert and had a good time.

Paula- emoticon 11 inches! That's fantastic! I know what you mean about the pear though; that is what I'm dealing with too. Seem to lose everywhere but there. sigh. Wouldn't fuss about it except for all they say about the waist being the worst place to be carrying extra pounds.

Kathy- good luck with the remodel. No fun while you're doing it but oh so worth it when it's finished.

Jan- how's it going? Been able to keep up the oatmeal at breakfast? Steve is a wonderful one for that and can offer a lot of motivation to keep up with the healthy foods. Remember-- new day; clean slate! Yesterday is gone and today is all yours.

Still working on losing the 2#'s I put on after I reached my original goal. Been able to wear my shoes again , lol, which means I can go outside and walk/jog. Much less boring than the treadmill. Maybe I can finally make some headway in the 'muffin top battle'.

Well, need to go clean stalls. Fun, fun!!
You could say I've been stalling cleaning the stalls this morning. groan... pretty bad. lol

Good morning! Got the Granddaughter for the week while her parents are in Barbados on vacation. Boy am I out of practice getting a kid ready in the morning and off to daycare. 1/2 hour late. I'll have to work on that. But by the time I get it refigured out they'll be back!

Paula - good job on the inches lost. I wish I would have measured myself before I started losing. It would have been interesting.

Bonnie - glad you were able to have some brother time. Prayers for your family as you are going through life changes.

Kathy - good job on continuing the P90x work out. Are you finding muscles sore that you didn't know you had? Sorry you are feeling bad. I wasn't feeling so great yesterday and this morning. I think I ate something bad yesterday because both my husband and I were having some intestinal problems. Feeling a little better.

Abby - good job on keeping the food under control. Exercise and keeping busy you really do have to work at. Good luck.

Hi everyone,
I didn't feel so great during the night, so I decided to stay home today. Kind of wish I went to work now! Oh well..

Got in P90x yesterday and hope to do another later today. Will make sure I'm feeling ok, first.

I'll probably lay low this morning and do some paperwork. I'm sure I'll check in from time to time today.

Steve-I'm glad you are safely home and had a great time in the metro DC area! The weather was pretty good, hmm?

Lynn, I love the quote:
Life is short. Enjoy it!
Dust if you must ........
but wouldn't it be better to paint a picture or write a letter, bake cookies or a cake and lick the spoon or plant a seed,
It is time to ponder the difference
between want and need !!!

Dust if you must, but there's not all THAT much time . . . ..
...with wine to drink, rivers to swim and mountains to climb, music to hear and books to read, friends to cherish and life to lead.

Dust if you must,
but the world's out there with the sun in your eyes, the wind in your hair...a flutter of snow, a shower of rain. This day will not come around, again....

Dust if you must , but bear in mind, old age will come and it won't be kind. . ..

And when you go - and go you must - you, yourself will make more dust!

Our house is definitely dusty since DH and SIL took out most of a wall today! LOL Our dog doesn't help with his long hair-sigh. I don't dust, trust me-lol!! I've been enjoying my wine this evening. ;-)

I got my P90x in this morning...had planned to do another workout tonight, but too pooped. We ate a late dinner since DD didn't get home from work until after 8.

I better call it a night so I can get up and do my P90x tomorrow before work-ugh.

Good evening y'all,
We just made it back home and our dogs were so happy to see me. I got pulled over for speeding but the officer just gave me a warning. It was a speed trip going through a college town in Boone. My wife was saying to me, the speed dropped down to 35 and sure enough, lights were behind me. I have not gotten a ticket for over 40 years. I guess a warning keeps the string going. Anyway, I have to see how much damage I did to my weight on our get away. Our cousins, who we stayed with, brought home Pannara Bread Co. their homemade bagels. I had two of them for breakfast and then I ate at Cracker Barrel for lunch and we had ice cream after that at a gas stop. O'my. I ate good, but I think my lifestyle changes helped me stay within a pound. No worries because I will just eat more salads the next few days and go to the low end of my range. You can do it if you stay the sparkpeople course. Have a good night y'all. Stevegolfdog.

welp, cleaned the house. i was amazed. i had no idea i had hardwood floors! and all those poor little dust bunnies screaming and scurrying under the couch for cover. i have two dogs, an old collie and an old deaf-retarded pug. also have 3 cats. i live in a virtual dust bunnie factory.

reading all the family dynamic stories brought back so many memories. ever heard the joke about "my parents moved and didn't tell me?" not a joke. happened to me. nope, i am not kidding. bet no one can top that one!

okay. everyone have a great week. back to the old grind tomorrow.

Don't worry, cats are just as bad as dogs, only smaller. I just picked up a lovely little dust/cat hair bunny that came from under my dresser in my bedroom!

Oh, well, I would rather have my cats than a totally clean house!

Dust!
Remember...a layer of dust protects the Wood beneath it.

'A house becomes a home when you can write 'I love you' on the furniture.'

I used to spend at least 8 hours every weekend making sure things were just perfect 'in case someone came over' Finally I realized one day, that no-one came over;
they were all out living life and having fun!
NOW, when people visit, I don't have to explain the 'condition' of my home
They are more interested in hearing about the things I've been doing while I was away living life and having fun.
If you haven't figured this out yet, please heed this advice.

Life is short. Enjoy it!
Dust if you must ........

Happy Sunday!

BIL and family left this morning. I made pancakes and I ate one myself. It was great. I will eat a salad for dinner (I learned that trick from Steve). Yesterday when dh & I were watching the rally on TV I mentioned my SP friend Steve was there....dh just kinda looked at me. I think he believes my SP friends are like my imaginary friends...not real. You are all very real to me.

Bonnie....enjoy you last day with your brother. Sounds like the kids really liked having him there.

Lista...you are so right... families are weird. I have 4 brothers and 4 sisters (all the same parents). We are all scattered across the country. When I grew up we never had contact with uncles, aunts and cousins. So we all said that we would be different with our families. But we aren't. I guess it is what you are used to, the pattern continues. I have 6 kids and I don't talk to any of them every day. And they don't talk to each other either. They just don't seem to have much in common. They don't dislike their sibs, they just choose not to hang out with them.

I am going to chase some dust bunnies, Lynn

Family dynamics are a weird deal. 6 kids in our family and we all live within a state or 2 of each other. Sisters are in regular contact with each other but not so much the 2 brothers. We all know we will be there for each other when needed and that works out fine. We all could try harder I'm sure.

I'm glad to hear that I'm not such a slacker that my house also has dog hair accumulating. How many times does one person have to sweep? It's almost embarrassing when you see a clump and you are like "where the heck did that come from, I just cleaned". We have a black lab and boxer/terrier mix. And I swear we could build a new dog!

lynn- how sad you've only seen your brother 3x in 35 years. it's that way with my brothers and they both live here in town! i think if i stopped calling and trying to make a connection i'd never hear from them again. so thankful for my sister in fairbanks.

lista- what a beautiful way to spen a saturday!

steve- watched on tv. i kept waving to you! very moving.

bonnie- glad you had more good family time. lot's of good memories there to hang on to. don't have too much fun at your american idol concert!

can't remember who has plateaued- but here is something i read. go up and down with your calories. say your range is 1200 to 1500. one day be 1201, the next day be 1501 and then back down in the low 1200's and then up. that's sposed to help break a plateau.

well didn't clean my house yesterday. this morning there was an extra dog in my living room. think it might be a morphed dust bunny. oh well, i fed it breakfast anyway.

emoticon emoticon y'all have a great one. be good out there!

Just stopping in quickly to say good morning all!

My brother goes back to Texas today, so I will be going to spend a bit more time with him in a bit. We had a wonderful time. So much good family togetherness has been wonderful. Very time consuming, but wonderful! I am used to a bit more down time, but that's ok, it is sooo worth it. The kids loved Terry so much, he kept taking them all outside to play hide and seek, what's not to love? Ang finally made them come in last night because Terry was sweating so much from running the yard with them. He loved it too. He is happy in Texas, but sure wish her were closer.

Have a great Sunday all. I have my American Idol concert tonight! Looking forward to that!

Good morning y'all and it's good to see many new faces and chatty people on our sparkteam. Kathy, just stay your course you are doing great. I would consider trying to eat at the lower end of your daily caloric range. yeah, the late night snacking is a problem for me too. Portion out those crackers into a Ziploc bag so you don't over indulge or put an amount into a bowl so you can track them better. Well, I'm leaving to go back home today and I must say the rally in DC was very emotional and inspiring to me. Stay your course everyone and enjoy your spark'n day. Stevegolfdog emoticon

Had a wonderful day today. Started the morning with coffee with a good friend. Then came home to my beautiful 15 month old granddaughter spending the day. She is so fun. Then everyone was home for supper (a miracle). Even got some yard work in.

Thanks for the suggestions, you guys! StillSlim-I don't use soy or sucralose, so those aren't issues for me. I've been in menopause since I was 38! Just this year have I really gotten "atuck"....even though I've been in menopause, do you gals think since I had the hysterectomy in Feb this year, that has affected me somehow?

Kathy - My favorite snack is an apple with reduced fat peanut butter. I use gala apples, as they are smaller than red delicious but have great flavor. And Jif has a reduced fat peanut butter.

Know the rut well, and changing just a bit will jump start something.

Been really busy with DGK's getting ready for the new school year. One 10 yr old just sprained her knee on the playground today and is on crutches till she sees to Orthopedist on monday.
Never ends.

Steve: rally looked good on the tv screen. Did you get close? Some of the speeches were good, couldn't watch the whole thing though.

Weather great here. Would take a lot more days of upper 70's-low 80's and sun. Great for working outside.

Have a great weekend all! emoticon

OK...it appears to be working now.

Kathy....you are doing great with your new dvd. I am amazed. I can't wait to see your new floor. They sound beautiful.

Lista...I am really proud of you. You are doing so well on the couch to 5K. Keep up the good work.

Paula...You crack me up, looking for Steve with his bucket. And I believe that my dust bunnies are breeding like crazy. You know how those rabbits are. I am going to see grand baby Amelie Sept 20 and I can't wait. It was good to sell the house in IA. We took a big loss on it but if we kept it another 6 months it could be worth even less. I am thankful to have a roof over my head and only one roof. lol

Jan....I will be thinking and praying for you and your mother.

Bonnie...I am glad that you are enjoying time with your family.

DH's brother and family will be here soon. They are just staying one night on their way back to San Diego. My oldest brother and his wife stopped by yesterday. They were in Vegas and on their way to Salt Lake. They live in OK. It was their 50th anniversay. I have only seen him 3 times in the last 35 years. At my Dad's funeral, my Mom's funeral and at my brother's funeral. When he left I wanted to say "see you at the next funeral and I hope it's not yours or mine". Families are such funny things.

Have a good Sunday, Lynn

Sometimes it can be other things in your diet too. Like sucralose in an artificial sweetener, or soy that is used in the soy protein drinks. I know at my age and going through menopause, soy caused me to hold on to weight--look these things up. You may be gluten sensitive--look that up too. I only know that is what was happening with me with I was doing everything right and couldn't get the weight off.

For snacks, apples are great, so are raw almonds (a handful) I like to have rice cakes with natural peanut butter too. I hope this helps.

Just an additional thought, my brother lives on the South Beach diet, he has a health issue that makes this work for him, and I have read that book. I am noticing him yesteday using nuts for a snack. Maybe if you researched nuts that you can like and are able to eat, there are some with lower calories. Maybe you could package up a serving in a little baggie or something and have it to carry in your purse.

Just a different thought!

I know you can do this, but I also understand about the stress you are under right now. It colors every obstacle in your way with black paint. I hope when you spoke with your mom she was better. Let us know. I am sure we all are sending prayers for her and for you!

God Bless.

KATHY

You may be right that a change in your snack would be good. But, if it is something that you really like, maybe you could find a place in your day to add more veggies and fruits instead. If I am recalling correctly, you are a little like me and protein can be a bit of a problem. Am I remembering that correctly? If so, maybe finding a low cal source of protein would be helpful, and give you a jump start. You are using so many calories, I am wondering if you are actually eating enough calories. I have found some very high protein bars. Revolution is one that comes to mind. If I am remembering correctly it has 32 grams of protein, and it is 280 calories. I will eat maybe just a third of one in the morning to jumpstart my metabolism, just began trying to do that, because I have a tendancy to eat breakfast late in the morning.

Perhaps you can find a better protein source to eat small amounts of throughout the day to stabilize and drive your metabolism. Our bodies are very strange creatures.

Maybe you could just add a slice of 2% Kraft american cheese to your crackers, that would only be 50 calories.

Hope something clicks for you.

God Bless my friends and have a great weekend.

Ok you guys-I need HELP!! I'm losing and gaining the same stupid pound over and over!! ARG! I know the problem is probably because I eat Wheat Thins for a snack when I get home from work, even though I stay within my calorie range! I need to substitute something else. But what?! I think I'll buy some red delicious apples, but I'd love to hear your suggestions. I'm burned out on baby carrots...I need something with flavor and crunchiness!

Bonnie - Bless you for being such a compassionate individual. I am glad you had a good time with your family last night, you deserve to relax and enjoy life!!

I am wandering around the house at 4 am, about to call my mother (in England). She has just been discharged from hospital, so I m anxious to find out how she is doing now that she is home.

I really MUST get a grip, and not just on my weight either!!

Whatever works for you my dear! I just tracked the last four days, and the first 3 of them were also not pretty! Today was pretty good, and I rode my bike for 35 minutes.

One day at a time for me! I have to let go of those 3 "not so much what I wanted" days!

PAULA

Good for you for seeing it through and having a great workout. I have to trick myself many times to get me to exercise. I am getting to be a pretty tricky chic!

STILLSLIM

You have really done a great job. I am wishing you into those size tens! Good luck, and keep the faith.

KATHY

You really have the exercise down pat! Good luck with your new program. Sounds like maybe a bit much for me.

RW Thanks again for the laughs! you are always so good for a snicker or two!

My house was built in 1917, so I have all golden oak woodwork and floors. My friend Dennis has refinished 3 of the four floors that I have the natural wood. The last floor I have covered with a very large area rug, as I just can not find a way to deal with all of that nast dust and dirt once again. One day I will have the courage. He put down some really cool commercial tile in my kitchen last summer, and the small bath on the first floor has vinal floor that I really like. Upstairs, the wood is not the same quality, so Laura and Derek have area rugs on it and it looks fine. Not sure if I will ever have anything done with them. I know only that I Never want carpet in my home again! Tearing that up a few years ago convinced me of that!

Wishing you all a good weekend.

We had a great dinner tonight with mom, dad, Aunt Donna, Terry, the girls and families. tomorrow, dinner at mom's.

Bonnie - I took your advice and started tracking again. It AIN'T pretty!! But the chocolate cake that I couldn't refuse at work, I just substituted it for dinner and then it wasn't so bad!! LOL

I have light oak laminate floors all through the house and I just love it. Very easy to keep clean. Brazilian cherry wood sounds really elegant.

RW - Great joke, made me laugh and remember what a jokester you are!

steve- oh they always do the pledge, national anthem and PRAYER thing at these rallies. we always go to the ones here in the state. i'm so jealous of all those who are in D.C. cry a few for me. and say hi to my friend janet, she'll be the redhead wearing a flag t-shirt! i'll text her and tell her you're the guy carrying a bucket.

i got to the gym today. was on my way home after droping off everyone's pay and thought oh what the heck- i'm not dressed for it but i'll go in for a few. ending up working out for 100+ minutes and burning 700+ calories.

i'm so glad i stopped. i was giving myself one of those "really don't want to, it's okay if i don't make my weekly goals" talks. but stopped anyway. we just have to push through those "one bowl of ice cream won't hurt" moments and keep our goals in sight. we can do this, you know!

hope everyone is having a productive day.

This team is so busy it is hard to keep up with everything. It seems the latest topic is about hardwood floors and PX90.

I will chime in about the floors. We are going to put new laminates in our kitchen. We have a 90 year old house with most of the original tile on the floor. We just replaced the original cabinets in the kitchen, now we are going to replace the floor. It is always nice to do new things to a home.

I just posted my new Vlog about my goal jean journey. Take a look as I try to get rid of these last 9 pounds. I will not get on a scale until the size 10s are fitting. Later everyone--Stillslim

Let me see, new hardwood flooring, priceless. I just love hardwood floors and I know Brazilian Cherry is awesome. We almost put that down but it didn't match our cabinets.

Good sleep is GOOD, Bonnie, yippee.
Anyway, we are leaving for our march to DC, hahaha. I'm getting ready with kleenex for my tears during the National Anthem and pledge of elegance if they do that. I'll be wearing a red shirt with our flag on it if you want to look for me, hahahaha. They are saying 100K to 300K. I have this feeling it will be way larger then that and you will see. Good morning!!

To all who commented on my floors: I can't wait to see them down! I'll be sure and take before and after pictures. :-)

Paula- I think I'm going to enjoy the P90x workouts-they are tough, but as you said, "well rounded". They focus on 1 or 2 body parts every other day and on alternating days, it is cardio, yoga or stretch. Not bad! The yoga was really hard to do. My neck is killing me because much of the yoga was done on the floor. I have to look up at the tv to see what they are doing and when they move, etc. It was very hard on my neck! :-( I am going to sit down and watch it in its entirety and write down what they are doing and how many sets so I don't have to look up every 10 seconds!! Today is legs, back and abs day! I am betting that's going to keep me from being able to walk tomorrow-lol. I hope to get in some running today, but not sure if I can manage that with this workout.

I'ts nice and quiet at the office today! I should be doing paperwork...just taking a quick break here. ;-) I'll catch up more later!

That sounds just beautiful. I am sure you will love it!

LYNN

I hope you are rested today so you can enjoy your day of fun!

Paula and Lynn

I have slept pretty well for the last sveral nights, but still pretty exhausted. I am of the opinion that part of it is that I need a new mask for my machine, I think it is leaking in the night no matter how tight I put it, and part of it is emotional. My brother being home has me pretty emotional. I was dealing well with my dad's surgery and situation, but now yesterday I was feeling pretty weepy.

Slept pretty well last night, hope to feel more rested when I wake up completely.

I am going to do a blog about my dad's surgery etc, so if anyone wants to read it they are welcome.

Have a great weekend my friends, I am thinking of you all even if I could not answer you all!

Hi All,

My dd was an actress in Hollywood for about 6 years and she did name the baby after the movie. She is also 1/2 french and her dh is 3/4 french (his name is Pierre). His father lives in Canada and doesn't speak much English. I had never heard of the movie until yesterday. It seems lots of people have. I can't wait to go to Denver in Sept to see them.

We signed the closing papers on our house in IA. So sad that it lost so much value in 3 years. Who knew?
At least it is over with. Well, the closing is next week..we just mailed the papers back today.

Lista....I loved the state fair. I know I would be eating things that I could only get once a year...at the fair. Enjoy yourself! And great job on the couch to 5K, you are really sticking with it. I am proud of you.

RW...have a great trip.

Steve...I have another grand daughter! Enjoy you visit. Hopefully you won't get a fireworks welcome this time. I'll watch for you at the rally on TV.

Kathy...we have walnut floors in the house that we bought 8 months ago. I need to find out how to care for them. They show water spots and it is getting some small scratches near DH's barstool. They tore out all the beautiful tile to upgrade with the wood. They put wood floors in the main bathroom and carpet in the master bath. I love tile.

Bonnie....I was thinking about you at 3:30am when I still couldn't get to sleep. Then a girl from work called at 6:30am to see if I could work for her. I will try to make it an early night tonight....I don't want to fall asleep at MahJong tomorrow.

Have a great Friday, Lynn

I kicked butt at the gym tonight. Did my couch to 5k week 3 and ran all the minutes I was supposed to run and walked all the minutes I was to walk. Good suggestion by Kathy to not try to run so fast. It worked. I did good!

Granma Lynn - congrats. How exciting. Grandkids are the best.

The State Fair started today. I think I'm going to take part in it this year. Throw caution to the wind and eat. It's only 1 day in the scheme of things. Yes, I'm sure I will eat something fried, how can you not. But sharing 1 serving with DH will cut it down. And I know my stomach won't be able to handle too much fried food anyway.

Paddy was driving down the street in a sweat because he had an important meeting and couldn't find a parking place.

Looking up to heaven he said, "Lord take pity on me. If you find me a parking place I will go to Mass every Sunday for the rest of me life and give up me Irish Whiskey!"

Miraculously, a parking place appeared.

(Story continues below)

Paddy looked up again and said, "Never mind, I found one."

Kathy, I'll be staying in Falls Church, VA and going to the Restore Honor Rally Glenn Beck is putting on this Sat. It will be huge and I bet over 2 million people rally there. It will be so crowded with patriotic people with pride for this country. I'm bringing a 5 gallon bucket to sit and stand on, hahaha. I'll have the best pictures. Stay tuned happy spark'n people. Guess you can tell I am excited about the baby! I too love that name, and the first thing that came into my mind also was the movie. I had never heard that name before that movie, now I think it is a beautiful name.

JAN

It is a good day for a restart! Have a wonderful, fun and happy day. Enjoy! Best of luck!

KATHY

If it is of any consolation, My niece Christy and Grisson her husband have the bamboo floors, I think they are pretty and fine, but he is very unhappy with them. He thinks they are too soft, and show dings and dents and it drives him crazy. He is a bit picky as you can see, but just thought I would tell you that maybe the wood floors will be a better choice in the long run, albeit more expensive.

PAULA

Glad you had a great visit with your daughter. That is indeed precious time.

I slept really well again last night, so maybe today I will have more energy.

Just realized my time is done, have to get moving. Have a great day sparkin' all of my friends!

Good morning!

Steve-Where in the Metro DC area are you going to be? Do you know I live here, too? I'm in Bowie, MD. Enjoy your visit and have a safe trip!

Bonnie- I hope you slept well last night!

Lyn-Congrats on the birth of your granddaughter, Amelie! There's a movie by that name and I loved the movie and I love that name, too! :-) I'm partial to french names since that is part of my background. ;-) I can't wait to see a picture of her!

DH discovered the bamboo flooring we picked out does not come in 3/4 inch depth, so we have to go back to the store and pick a wood flooring. Bummer. I really liked the bamboo and it's much cheaper than wood floors. So guess what I'm doing after work today?? I gotta find time to workout, too! Have a good day...

I've got anothr RFP meeting this morning and another meeting this afternoon. Not gonna get any paperwork done today. :-(

What's this Lynn, you just had a baby? Or someone in your family did? Anyway, who ever it is and if they are on sparkpeople, they should see their weight tape suddenly go way down, hahaha. One more day around here and we leave for DC and visit some of our relitives who live just outside the beltway. I can't wait to visit with them. Yep, no fireworks outside our window so I've been able to sleep in. Today, we meet with our realtor and look and take pictures of the condo we are trying to buy. That should be fun. We golf with this guy who did just what we are doing with the purchase of the condo 10 years ago. He said his condo is worth what he paid for it 10 years ago now. That's how low it's gone down in value due to this economic situation. Everything is adjusting right. Anyway, y'all stay your course and have a good spark'n day. Stevegolfdog.
