Hi guys......and emoticon to all the emoticon grads. Today I did not feel like it but I got in 2 miles of walking and then 20 minutes in the steam room. I am now craving sweets, however happy to report there are none stash away anywhere in the house. I am quiet sure that will be remedied by tomorrow when all the valentine candy start pouring in at Sunday school. I must remember everything is ok in moderation. Well that will be my mantra until valentine past... MODERATION.

Hi everyone! I am an intermittent poster. I am being more consistent now though. I went to the doctor and he agreed that I have tendonitis. All I can do is rest my arm and take NSAIDs. Because I have had minor knee surgery in the past, he doesn't want me to use an incline on the treadmill. Boo! We all know that helps the calorie burn but I am afraid of hurting my knee again. Anyway, I must walk even longer on the treadmill now but I found a good activity to make it less boring. I am studying for the GRE, so I study the word lists while I am walking on the treadmill. Time goes by much faster that way.
Congratulations on the college graduation! I graduated in December with my bachelor's degree and after I take the GRE, I am starting my master's degree program in August. It is a great sense of accomplishment! Hopefully, losing weight will too. I need to stick with it! Thanks for everyone who posts. It helps me feel like I am not alone!

Evening All:

Welcome to all the newbies, and the returning.

We are a bunch of people heading in the same direction! Down!
Weather it is in pounds or inches we are all going to get to where we need to be in good time.
Anything worth having is worth waiting, working, living for.

We had a good trip to AC and I did real good with a my food. I had my pedomiter on and at some point I hit the reset and cleared it. I was not a happy camper about that I can only guesstimate now. My husband wanted to order out for tonite but since we are back home I would rather cook (yes I know I am crazy) but it is easier for me to calulate my intake when I know what I am really eating. I made Chicken Cutlets and Mac and chees, With salad.
I had 4 oz of Chicken Cutlets and 3 Cups of salad with Lemon and olive oil.
I walked around two stores today and pretty much jogged in place while I was cooking. So I may not be doing the traditional exercise but I am moving.
Good Luck to all the new people, An keep moving in the right directions, One step at a time and don't forget where you came far. emoticon

The best way to exercise is to do it for a good cause, besides your own health.

Hey all! I've been absent a little while and read through all the posts...but there are so many! Congrats to everybody's progress. And a special shout-out to EverReadyBunny. No more BP pills is awesome! I improved my health last year through exercise and good nutrition so I know what an accomplishment that is. Expect to lose more weight without the meds as you'll probably be able to get your heart rate up higher to burn more calories. I started a new diet mid-week last week and it's already working for me! This week I intend to follow it completely as I made quite a few mistakes/flubs/cheats last week.

Just wanted to say hello and wish you all a happy weekend! I'm hoping to get caught up on a few things around the house, get a couple of work outs in, and spend some down time catching up on my reading and maybe finishing a couple of crochet projects I've started. Have a great weekend everybody!

Hi everyone,
I've never done this either, so not sure what or how to do this. Anyway, I started this at the end of Jan. then went on vacation so this is my first full week. A couple slips this week. Story of my life since I was about 8 and am now 43! Daily battle...always will be. Just need some support from people just like me and that's what I think I'll find here emoticon .
A little about me: I have 2 grown children, one grandchild and very supportive husband. I live in the frigid north and work in special education (which does get stressful at times).
I guess that's it for now. Thanks everyone!

Hi, everyone! I worked from home today, which basically means a whole day of sitting on my butt writing reports and analyzing data. I know I should schedule some breaks to get up and move around, but I never seem to.

Ann - congratulations! What an accomplishment!

I hope everyone has a terrific weekend!

Welcome Nanci and all the other newbies! This is the best group...you will find a lot of support here!!

Ann-Congrats on the college degree. That is so awesome. Education is so important these days....and it is something noone can take away from you. You have earned it!!!!!!!!

I have been a bit under the weather this week, but am feeling much better. I did take a few days off of exercise (Monday and Tuesday) just because I didn't have the energy...all my energy has been spent coughing!! argh!! I walked on Wednesday, lifted weights yesterday, and then ran today for the first time all week. I did a nice slow steady pace, but was able to complete 3 miles. I guess that means I am back to my old self and ready for more!! LOL!! The weather is supposed to be warmer this weekend and my plan is to do a nice long run outside on Sunday....I really can't wait. I have sooooo missed running outside.

Have a great weekend.....spark ya soon!!

Hi everyone! Happy that it is Friday. It does not mean my work week is over but there are less people to deal with on the weekend. Shadow as much as I like to read I would seriously have to be losing tons of weight to keep up to my reading habit. Haven't tried Gone With the Wind but maybe it is in my future. I was so excited today. Started out as usual and managed about 30 min of a new pilates video I got. Boy is that stuff hard. Then on my way in to work I heard that Holly from Survivor Nicaragua was going to be in town. I got the guys started then ducked out at lunch and was gone 2.5 hours!!! I couldn't believe how the time flew. She was so sparkly and personal. A really gorgeous woman. I really enjoyed talking to her and it inspired me to become my best and maybe send in a tape to survivor. I would want to lose more weight first so I could do the challenges if I was picked. Talking to Holly and the other attendees really made my day. I plan to attempt to finish the rest of the pilates video tonight but it may not happen. It is so hard to exercise at night. If I don't get it in before work I usually am not going to get it done. My goals for this weekend are to cook up some of my "new" low carb meals to be prepared for next week and to get my kitchen finished. Only 1 more wall to tile and then I need to repaint. I can't wait to have some counter space back. Have a fabulous weekend everyone.

Hello fellow Sparkers. Last night I bought the Zumba for wii, I am hoping that it is the jump start that I need. I also bought a Kindle but I have deceided that the only way I am going to get any books is to loose 5 or maybe 10 pounds per book.

well got to get back to work. It is really windy here today hopefully that it will melt some of our snow so I can get back to walking.

I am a avid reader. And I just finished an awesome book! If your a Gone With The Wind fan, you just have to read Rhett Butler's People! I've read GWTW at least 20 times and I've read Scarlett twice, but I have to say this book is way better than Scarlett and at least as good if not better than GWTW. Hope everyone has a sparked day! emoticon

Happy Friday all!
Sorry it's been a couple of weeks since I checked in. Okay, maybe not a couple, but it seems like it.

Last Tuesday I went to the doctor for lower back pain. He put me on a steroid pack and warned me I would probably gain weight with it -- says everyone does. Not what I wanted to hear!!! I also got an MRI, but am still waiting to hear the results. He didn't restrict me from working out though, so I went to my Zumba class Monday night (my new addicition) and did my Yoga Tuesday and Thursday.

So I was a little surprised when I went to my weigh in this morning and found out I had lost a pound and a half! Yea me!

But my biggest news: I am now officiallyl a college graduate! I finished my final - final exam yesterday afternoon! My profs haven't posted all my grades yet, but I'm very certain I passed everything. So certain I treated myself to a very nice looking frame with the college logo on it for my expected diploma! Trust me, its much harder going back to college when you are 46. But in a way, I think it is more rewarding.

Ann

Happy Friday everybody! Starting to feel like myself again today--I want to start tackling my exercise routine again today. I have missed working out, which is something I thought I would never do. Congrats to all the great willpower and determination I see from everyone on the boards. You are all heroes!

Good Morning! We were snowed in yesterday (brrrr!). The kids were out of school (groans!!).. that so messes with my day (laughs). I couldn't get out to the gym, so I bundled up the kids, sent them outside, and did a ball workout dvd. I managed to avoid the hot chocolates as I passed them out to the kids (yea! for willpower...for once anyway). I had a good day calorie wise, was still under on protein and water...I hate water...but I deem the day a success! Have a great day everyone! Carly

Hi all.
Frigglesfrog - 1/2 lb is nothing. It will come right off. I think I can get on the scale get off and look at some food and gain that. LOL.
MezzoJo - Way to go. 4.6 lbs lost. GREAT
Muchkin - Congrats on 25 years. I am right behind you at 24 years. 6 miles a day is impressive to me on the walking. Super!
Hi and welcome to Salee46 and PetalWings
Bohobe - good luck maybe try to keep everything under fist or palm size might help. The snack idea is good also. You could try sitting on your hands (unless you have to write)
Stormy - Welcome back. YOU CAN DO IT!!
Dutch - Chocolate shoes!!! Wow. I love shoes so that might be fun. They would probably get eaten right away definitely not worn often.
Jamie - That Survivor Challenge sounds interesting. Does it qualify you to be on the Survivor show?

Well it was fun reading up on everyone here at my lunch time again. Keep up the good work. I am moving into a low carbohydrate phase of hcg and am so excited. I will be doing some cooking this weekend. I am a terrible cook so it should be interesting. I did just eat some soup I made Sunday and it was edible so I have hope. I am a bit scared of what the scale will do. I am down 2.6lbs for the week so not sure I will make my 5 lb goal. I am still happy about it though. I only made it through 15 min. of turbo jam this morning. I am going to try to get in another workout tonight.

Hi everyone! I haven't been on in awhile. New grandbaby, daughter needing knee surgery and a week out of school with 17+ inches of snow. Anyway, my weigh day is SAT....lost 1.6 yea!!! I was very surprised. Haven't been tracking my food, started back today. Did do 23 min of WII step yesterday, seems really hard to get the excerise in. I've read all the past posts, Keep up the good work everyone and WELCOME all the newbeeies.....Great Spot!

Hi everyone! I have been away from SparkPeople for a long time!! I was doing so great, then I just felt like I didn't have time for myself anymore. The upside is, I haven't quit exercising. The downside is, I have started to gain some of the weight I lost back. So I need to get my eating back on track.

I am doing the Suvivor Extreme challenge at our YMCA. I have to walk/run 12 miles this week (it is week 4). I have gotten in 6.75 miles so far this week. I plan to do 4 miles tonight after work.

My biggest problem currently is keeping my eating under control. With everything I have to do, I have gone back to school full-time. It has made it more difficult to make good choices.

I am looking forward to keeping myself motivated! I hope you all have a great day!

Thanks!
Jamie

HI, all! We got more snow in Western KY. The kids are out of school for the third day this week. Boss sent me home on Monday at 9am a 15 minute drive home was 45 minutes. I went home at 11:30 yesterday and it took me 25 minutes. I have made it to the gym once so far. We close at 2 on Thursdays so maybe get to go this afternoon. The gym has Zumba classes on Thursdays debating on going. Not sure if I can do it with bad knees. I think I will go and do my usual and watch them to get a better idea. I borrow someone's DVD's and they were to fast. I was told that the classes are still fast but not as fast as the DVD's.

I hope that everyone has a great Thursday! We can do it. If we fall off just get up and try again this isn't a sprint it is a marathon!

Everyone is doing the best they can with what they have and where they are.

Remember that the scale isn't the only way to measure weightloss success!

Morning All,
Up early. Going to attempt to go pick up my sisters stuff again, but taking my vehicle this time (we took her car on Tue, it broke down and after I had it towed back to her house I got to walk the 2-3 miles to my house.... got my cardio that day).
Side note: I am watching the News. They are showing Chocolate Shoes, the edible kind, full size for Valentines Day for $100.00 each. I have seen it all.
Any back to my post......LOL...... I did not get everything done yesterday so I have so much to do today with no sleep last night it is going to be tough.

Bohobe: You will do fine this weekend. Take your own snacks such as Almonds to keep in you purse. These will help you feel full and hopefully help the temptations of eating from the snack table. Maybe they will have good stuff like fruits and veggies.
Have Fun....

Welcome back, Stormy! I did the same thing--signed up for Sparkpeople, then just kind of did my own thing anyway. Boy, did I regret that! I'm so glad that I finally took it seriously. Hello everyone. I have been away from sparkpeople for about 18 months now. Durning that that I have been on and off at the gym and counting calories. This has caused me to gain about 20 pounds back that I had originally lost. My goal now is to lose a total of 40 to 45 pounds. I know it wont be easy but I am determined to get it off.

Hello everyone. Just wanted to let you all know that I will be missing in action for the next several days. I am going on a residency for a class I am taking. I will be back Sunday evening. I am nervous about the food. All my meals will be cooked for me and it is family style. The food is OK, not great. But I will have no way of measuring or weighing my food, so I will just have to eyeball it and hope I do well. The other problem is that we sit in class most of the day and there is a table at the back that is covered with snack food. Everyone always grazes all day at the snack table. It is going to be hard not to eat all day long. I hope all my hard work will not be lost in one weekend! See you on the Sunday!

Evening all:
Very syched about the new numbers.
I don't do zumba either not corordinated enough. Like to dance so I do that while I am cleaning when the mood strikes.
I am very tired tonite as I have been up since 4 am. Hubby woke me up 25 years today. Wow who would have thought? His whole family swear we wouldn't make it six months. HUH what to they know
Any way Hubby b day tomorrow. Looking forward to that, but going to Atlantic city and nervous about what I am going to eat.
I just figured out that if I keep going at the rate I am loosing by our next family function I will be in the 140's It would make me very happy.
That would put me close to loosing 13 lbs.
I am going to take it one meal at a time and hope for the best.

Barbs: Where are you? I haven't seen you e mail me... but thanks for the congrats.

Anne: I hear you on that walk. We don't do walks like that here. The closest one is in Philly. Still 2 hrs away. I would suggest we meet somewhere but Chicago is a little out of my reach at the moment. Maybe someday we can get it together to do a walk. I will think of you while I train... I am up to 6 miles. Not none stop but through out the day. I know I have a long way to to but one step at a time and I will get there.

Hello everyone! I had a great day! I went to Zumba class tonight and it felt great! After not having the class for three weeks she really worked us hard. I am thinking about joining her saturday morning class as well. I really need to get it going again. The weather is so cold outdoors that I cannot manage to get out there and walk. Well have a good night everyone!

Annie - Hello! I'm glad you are getting your workouts done.

SHADOW833 - I got Zumba for the Wii for christmas and I love it. I also take Wii Classes on Wednesday nights. I planning to start taking it on Saturday’s too.

HOCKEYMOM9730 – I would suggest that you try it first before buying it. I absolutely love it. I got it for Christmas. It’s a great workout.

BARBIE1967 – Hi Barbie, yes I saw that commercial and it’s awesome.

Hi, everyone! I didn't think I had really done that well this week, but I weighed in at WW and lost 4.6 pounds! Two people at the meeting got their award for losing 10% of their body weight - it was very inspiring.

I need to find some way to fit more exercise into my day. I don't really have a good place to work out in the house, so getting exercise in the winter is a real challenge.

I do have the Zumba game for Wii, and I think it's lots of fun. It's quite an intense workout, too.

I hope everyone has a terrific evening!

Jo in PA

Afternoon All,
Did weigh in today. I really did not want to with all the issues with water retention and no sleep this week. But I maintained and that is good for me. It is not a loss but I did not gain either so I am happy with that.

Today I got in my walking and strength training at the gym. Also did the steam room for 15 minutes. Felt like the steam helped to relax my muscles after lifting the weights. My last weigh-in I neither gained nor loss, so I am really kicking up my activity a notch. After watching the Biggest Loser lost night I was certainly motivated to move today. I am not hoping the scale will go down next Monday when I weight-in, it will go down. So keep up the good work all you Sparkers and stay on your game, count, measure and weigh your foods, drink plenty of water and get moving. We are worth it.

Had a quick minute at lunch today so thought I'd check in. Munchkin just wanted you to know you posted after me so your profile pops up and I just love seeing your happy face. You always (well it is the same picture) make me smile with your big grin.
Hockey Mom - so funny you saying about the car starting. It was super cold here and this morning the truck wouldn't start. I never thought about the cold affecting it. I just rolled it down the hill and popped it into gear and made it in. Wonder if it will start on the way home. Oh congratulations of the perseverence. I was stuck at 199 for 5 days and sticking to my guns but I almost gave in to hot chocolate last night. I stuck with tea (Lipton ginger something - it was very good!) and this morning I am happy to say the scale cooperated by going to 197.2. I may not have made it with another day of no progress. I am very impatient. Need to work on my patience and perseverance.

I have seen Zumba commercials but not the games. I don't have a game system but I bet it would be fun. This morning I put on a Talking Heads Cd and did my "crazy dance" around the kitchen but didn't make it to the exercise part. I did get one "cubby" (shampoo area) of my shower cement boarded in so I was happy to be making progress.

I am working on my second glass of water at lunch here. I packed a nice homemade soup but it leaked out on the way to work so I made do with a can of spinach. Well calories were in line but not exactly tasty. I am drinking water so I will make it til it is time to go home. Actually, I should drink the water anyway. I've been only making about a half gallon a day and am shooting for a gallon.

Carly - what a workout day you had yesterday. I will be happy if I can do even half of that. I did get a weight bench but haven't got it put together yet. Ok, enough of my rambling. I like posting here and seeing how everyone is handling life. It is good to know the rest of you have to make time for cleaning the kitchen, and don't feel like exercising, and fall off the wagon. I guess as long as we are moving forward we don't need to be perfect. That is one thing I am working on is that sometimes I can mess up a bit but keep going. I used to quit if I missed a workout or if I cheated on a diet plan. Have a happy hump day all!

Happy hump day to all my favorite sparkers! Congratulations to Wednesday weighers. Am a bit under the weather today. Feel a cold coming on. Went to the gym and dragged through a little cardio thinking i would feel better once I got started good, you know mind over matter. Not happening. Going to the couch with a warm blanket and chicken soup.

Munchkin way to go on your weight loss You are awesome. 150's!!!! emoticon
Nessagirl did you see the Zumba commercial "Spice up your body" ? You can dance anywhere. Turn on your music and move it.
Hockeymom Zumba is kind of like latin dancing and you really don't need alot of games and dvd's to start. Google it next time you have a few minutes and pick up a few basic moves. Try it before you buy it. I can't Zumba or Salsa or anything like that as I have no rhythm at all. And may the scales be especially kind to my Frigglesfrog today. Barbie.

What is this Zumba thing everyone is talking about. We have a Wii and an Xbox Kinect (my son does, but I will borrow them) is the game really worth it? There are not any classes at my health club so the game is as close as I could get. Should I buy?

Freezing here today as well, hope the car starts. No walks for me or the dogs in this cold. Even if it was warmer there are no sidewalks due to that huge snow last week! I promised myself to get to the gym today but work called a meeting so I get to go there, come home for 2 hours, and go back to work my shift.
I am stuck weight loss wise...nothing in 6 days now, but not cheating yet. The old me would just say forget it and blow it all on Chinese food and cheesecake, but the new me is working on some moderation, patience and self control.
Hang in there everybody!
