You know what I've found out that I most love about my HRM? The fact that it really shows me how much harder I have to push as my general fitness improves. It automatically makes me push harder to improve. And I love that manual feature for tracking too, Debbie. I think it provides a much more accurate picture.

I've been manually inputting calories burned since this discussion started, and it definitely is the way to go! I can't believe I've been on SP so long and just figured this out (with help.

It's actually easier. I've saved my normal workouts as favorites, and it's a cinch! Fantastic!

Thanks again!

When you put in your add cardio, a little box pops up that says "manually enter your exercise" ( that or something about manually entering calories burned...). Anyway, it is on the right, sort of upper part of the box. If you click on that, it navigates to a page where you write in what your exercise is, number of minutes, and calories burned. They really made it nice and easy!

Is there a way to input calories burned manually? I guess I could search to find my answer, but I'm feeling lazy this morning.

Same with my Curves workouts; the tracker gives less cals burned than what the machines tell me I did. I go with the machines!

The heart rate monitor knows how hard you are working out. Always go by the HRM.

I ALWAYS go by my heart rate monitor. Once in a great while I forget to wear it and I just don't feel like I'm getting accurate info.

I've found the fitness tracker gives a low calorie count when I run. I use mapmyrun.com (which also allows you to enter your weight) as well as the fitness tracker. If mapmyrun.com will show that I've burned 500 calories, the fitness tracker will show about 320. Then I'll go to two other online "calories burned" calculators and they both consistently show the same number of cals, and that will be in the 400 range.
So for me, the fitness tracker is on the very low end, mapmyrun.com is on the high end, and two others are smack in the middle.
Go figure.

Thanks, CLEMENTSUE. What you said about exercise equipment is interesting, and it made me think how the HRM is set up to the specific data we put into it, so that should give the more accurate results.

I've been going with my HRM consistently, mainly because IT is consistent. If I used the built-in feature on my elliptical, it would tell I burn 200-300 more calories than I actually do (and I've heard those calorie counts in exercise machinery are based on something like a 150 man). My HRM gives me an average of heart rate over the time exercising, plus high and low rates. Sometimes I can go the same amount of time, but depending how hard I'm working, the number of calories burned can vary quite a bit. I feel like it is pretty accurate, myself. And it is nearly ALWAYS less than what the fitness tracker program would show me burning emoticon

SP's Fitness tracker calculation for pilates says I burn half as many calories as my heart rate monitor numbers. Other exercises are pretty close when looking at calories burned on SP, so I'm wondering about the pilates exercise.

I'm focusing calories burned while exercising this month and want an accurate count. My gut feeling is to go with my HRM readings, since it's only the pilates I've got such a difference in numbers.

Anybody else experience this and what did you do?
