Hi KATALEEN1,
Nothing wrong with taking a day off and getting back to it. emoticon That sounds like a workable plan. If someone did want to track it, bacon grease is already in the nutrition tracker. Someone else mentioned that famous holiday green bean casserole is already in there too. I'm not a fan of that, but I do like my green beans with a little bacon grease all year-round. emoticon

I don't track on holidays. How do you account for the green beans cooked in bacon grease? I'm not measuring or counting. One day off from measuring isn't going to kill things. I'm back at it the next day though.

Well, I was definitely over my calorie limit but thankfully I wasn't anywhere near 4,500.

4,500 calories on Thanksgiving day! emoticon Oh, my! I believe it, because I was very careful about portions and tracked everything, and my dinner and a small portion of dessert was 1,011.

I had 1,422 for the day (1,550 is my high end) but I'm sure there have been many holidays in the past when I personally devoured every one of those 4,500 calories, because I can remember that horrible over full feeling. *Not* this year!

Elise11, click on the import from other members and type in the 'dish'. It might already be there and while it might not be exact, you could get really close.

Like I am sure green bean casserole (if you would eat that emoticon would be there)

You are all so good! I will most likely track the "easy" things like turkey, but when you have a mixed dish it's way too hard to add in all the ingredients. I will watch my portions and make healthy choices however, and let the pounds fall where they may (most likely my thighs!)

Did everyone see this? It is estimated the average person consumes 4500 calories on Turkey day. OMG

I will watch portion control and then estimate it into the nutrition tracker later.

Being gluten free, it is easy to pass on a lot of the calorie laden bounty that is put on the table. I am going to be making my own emoticon though. emoticon

Best of luck to us all!

Yesterday I measured a food I've never measured before. I learned sometimes I'm eating more than I think. I find carrying a notebook in my purse helpful too. I just need to be sure to continue keeping track of them at the end of the day so I don't go over my max amt. calories. I'll make myself accountable for this over the holidays. Anyone got suggestions on how to continue tracking them after doing so in the notebook in my purse?

I like to use my scale and measuring cups to track my food intake. I was so surprised when I start using these to measure my portions. Portions are alot smaller then I estimated. I am going to buy myself a little notebook to carry , and try to estimate at least just on the main holiday itself. The ideas so far are great. We can do this, good luck to you all and have a great holiday season!!! emoticon

Great ideas.

I love to use my food scale when I'm at home. It keeps me in line. But I also track in a little notebook I keep in my purse (or sometimes ends up left in the car) when I'm away from the house, so this will work during the holidays. Just having to write it down tweaks my conscience so I eat less!

I made new goals yesterday, and tracking calories through the holidays is one of them. I made it one of my personal goals for the Have Yourself A Healthy Little Christmas Challenge too. I know it will help me stay in control...or at least better control than if I throw all cares to the wind.

We can do this!

I'm going to track my calories and stay away from sweets as much as possible. No need for weighing etc. for me either.

Great idea SALEE100!

I was thinking about that also - portion control and stay away from fats and sugars. Got to keep the metabolism under control...

I will be doing some estimating... definitely not weighing. One-half cup looks like the size of a light bulb, your thumb is 1 oz (good for cheese) and 1 oz is also about 2 tbsp. I try to keep my servings at or below 1/2 cup. Also, I think I have a good idea of what 1/4 cup looks like and what meat looks like in 2 and 3 oz servings... I'll probably write it down and then log into SP later.

I'll be writing everything down on a piece of paper and just estimating. I have a pretty good idea about the calorie content of most foods so I'll have somewhat of an idea of where I stand. I know it's not exact. But, my goal for Thanksgiving is to enjoy the day but NOT go crazy. Then, when I get home I'll enter everything.

How do you plan on tracking your calories over the holiday? It will be hard for me to sit at a holiday meal and weight everything out. Plus I will have to keep track of what I eat so when I get home I can log in what I ate. Any ideas how to keep this simple .
