Try just doing one good lifestyle thing early in the day. If I have a good healthy breakfast or morning walk, then the rest of the day goes better because I've already put in that bit of effort and don't want to let it go to waste. Besides, why wait to make a good decision when you can make even a little one first thing.

I just joined sparkpeople and I am constantly battling the old "falling off the wagon" habits! I know what it's like to feel like you've messed up with your eating habits but everyone is right on, just keep on keepin on! lol. Also, sounds like you're doin good and have the right mindset. I think that as long as we all see where we have room for improvement and keep on recommitting ourselves everyday to healthy new habits, when we fall back into old ones sometimes at least we're not falling back for good!
Also, I love this site! This team is awesome, so much support that I've never found before. Thank you to everyone that has welcomed me :)

Thank you everyone for all the support and advice. I've been doing pretty good. I haven't been perfect but better. I broke up with my boyfriend of 4 years this weekend and have decided that I am now working on myself and finding out what I want with life. And that is to be healthy and fit. I'm not going to make excuses for myself anymore. THank you again everyone!

You can achieve any goal you set your mind to!

I've had the similar problem lately, but with working out. But today, I forced myself to get back on the wagon and work out...and it felt great. I've also slipped with eating some too, but I just tell myself that I can start over again! And I think of the weight I've lost so far, and remind myself that I can do this! If you ever need a buddy, I'm always here! Good luck, and I hope you get back up on that wagon today!

Old habits die hard. Just try not to beat yourself up too much when you do get sidetracked from your goals. Usually that just makes it worse and can create a downward spiral.

Most importantly DON'T GIVE UP. It's difficult to transform an unhealthy lifestyle into a healthier one. But it can be done. Just stay determined and reach out when you need help. There's support here and we believe in you!!

I got screwed up last week also, my schedule was off because of the holiday and I just couldn't get back on track. So I tried to be as good as possible for the rest of the week and am starting fresh this week with a positive attitude. All you can do is to make the decision to get back on track and not look back.

PROUDMOM0507's got it right when they say it will happen more than once. It will but each time you just need to dust yourself off and get back on the horse again (or how ever that saying goes). I also went back to my old habits over the holiday weekend and it's been HARD trying to get back into the swing of things. But it can be done. I have been with SP for several years now and I will start doing really well and then blow it... and then forget about SP... and eventually come back. It's something that will take time. It's a life change so you will start and stop and start and stop until one day you realize you're doing it without really thinking about it. You're deciding that maybe instead of having the Daquiri you'll have a vodka tonic with a twist of lime instead. Instead of eating the entire Chipotle burrito you'll have them cut it in half and take the rest home for dinner.

It will take time but you can do it. The message boards help as do reading the blogs because you realize there are other people struggling and people who have struggled that have managed to do it.

So yeah... that's all.

GO YOU!

It's going to happen - more than once. You just have to get up, dust yourself off and try again. Old habits are hard to break and sometimes seems impossible but you will do it as long as you just don't give up. It may be helpful to keep motivations around like reasons why you want to lose the weight and be healthier as a reminder. Like pictures on the refrigerator or cabinets, so that you see it before you open it. Log everything you eat so that you can see what how horribly you did on the bad days - that helps me stray from it the next time usually.

You can do it, just don't give up!!

I haven't really fallen off the wagon yet with the eating thing, so I'm not going to be able to help you. Hopefully though, if I do you'll have some great tips for me!

I have been slacking in the exercise department though! I decided I had to get it back in high gear, so I focused on what I like best. Strength training! Instead of doing it three days a week, I split my workout in two and started concentrating on upper body one day, then lower body and my core the next day. After a few days I read a post about the "elliptical monster" that really got me motivated. It had been over a week, but I forced myself back on there and was surprised at how well I did with the time lapse. The reason I did it that way was so I was getting back into the habbit of daily exercise before I started working towards daily cardio.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is that when you started this journey you probably didn't jump in all or nothing, right? You probably focused on a couple things then added to it. Maybe you could go back to that. Even if you're not in control of what you're eating, you should make yourself write everything down. Seeing how bad you're doing can often help give you the motivation you need to eat a little better.

Then, what is an exercise that you either enjoy or can handle? Even if all you do is walk to the end of the driveway and back try to make yourself get moving. Do what you can, and try to do a little more each day. Before you know it you'll be back in your groove! Good luck! I honestly think you'll get over the hump, because I can tell you're that kind of person. You've got that confidence and attitude that isn't going to let one holiday ruin all your effort! Let me know how it goes!

Brandice

BTW- Holly heck that was long! I'm sorry, but hope I made the point I was going for in the end!

Hey everyone! I am in some trouble with myself. This past weekend of course was a holiday weekend with lots of different foods and temptations. Alcohol was being passed out as well. I was making smarter choices and wasn't flying off the deep end. But I can't seem to shake off those bad habits. I'm following weight watchers and haven't been writing down any of my points. Plus last night I had 2 baked potatoes with cheese as my dinner. I'm falling back into my old habits. I haven't excersized since THursday. I need help! What do you guys do when you fall back? I want this more then anything so you would think I would just STOP. But eating is an addiction to me. And I don't want it to have a hold over me anymore. Thanks you guys!

You can achieve any goal you set your mind to!
