Pop was always my killer. There was a time I was working an early shift (3am to 2pm, before overtime) and I was only getting about 3-5 hours of sleep a night, if I was lucky.

It was a drag on my system was horrible, and pop at the time at my work was only 25 cents a can. I was too far away to drive somewhere to get something else on my breaks or anything like that.

The dominoes fell and I ended up drinking probably close to 6 cans a day, just trying to stay awake. I wouldn't suggest it to my worst enemy.

Quiting after that was a nightmare. I was always tempted for "just one more" because I was having withdrawls from the sugar and caffeine.

I cut down slowly, trying to minimize how much I had a day and such, and I should have bought stock in pain meds for all the tylenol and such I took to help with the headaches at first. I started replacing my pop with tea or juices and such. I stopped buying it so it was never in the house to tempt me. After the first couple of weeks, my headaches weren't nearly as bad.

I'm glad to say that now the only times I'm really tempted to get a pop are days when I'm fighting severe headaches/migranes.

Might seem hard a first, but it's great for your system if you can cut the habit.

I stopped drinking regular soda in Jan. 2009. I have a diet soda once in a while because I love the fizz to it (because the diet green tea and water are flat, lol). I don't care too much for candy bars anymore (EXCEPT the Butterfinger and Butterfinger Crisp ones). I don't care for too many potato chips except Doritos (always will be my weakness).

I've been able to keep away from the Krispy Kreme Doughnuts we sell (I may eat one once a month just so that I don't deny myself).

I think I'm doing great!

Soda is just like any other form of addiction, cold turkey is great for some people and not for others. I found that switching to something like tea (only a little caffeine) kept me from having withdraws and I didn't get the headaches. Plus, you can't beat the saving 100 plus calories when going from soda to coffee or tea!

I'm still struggling with quitting soda. I've tried before to quit, but the withdrawal kicks my butt every time! I just keep telling myself baby steps! emoticon

My downfall has always been soda. I've drank it for as long as I can remember, and used to go days without drinking any water, just soda, when I was younger. I cut down for about a month and limited myself to 1 a day, and eventually I got back into drinking multiple a day. I started off drinking regular when I was younger, and then would only drink diet (not that it's any better!!) I'm on day number 8 of no soda. I haven't craved it, surprisingly didn't go through any caffeine withdrawals, and don't plan on drinking it again unless there are no other options (and that situation doesn't come up very often if ever!)

I have had a couple packets of crystal light with my water, but for the most part it's just been plain.

I also used to eat a LOT of fast food thanks to a friend of mine that always insisted on going out. I've cut that out completely and when you really think about it....it doesn't even taste that great! I always get a stomach ache after eating it. Also, I don't need to spend the money on it, there are much better things I can find to spend my money on & aiding my weight problem is not one of them!

I echo the fast food thing. I also had a hot dog the other day and I was like...this isn't even good! It's all about your perception.

I used to drink a lot of pop, and really no water. I stopped drinking pop on May 3rd and all I drink now is water or milk.

At my worst I was at 5 or 6 20 oz bottles of soda a day. I quit off and on but as of 5/14 I quit drinking soda & stick to water unless I'm at the gym then I add pure fitness by crystal light to my water.

Soda hasn't been an issue for me at all but I miss dessert. I miss cheesecake and other sweets. I miss some fast food things too like going to Wendy's and getting a frosty and fries (sweet and salty mmm).

It's interesting, when I cut pop out, it was a lot easier to cut out other snacky foods, like chips and hot dogs and things that go hand in hand with pop in my mind. I couldn't just drink a can, I had to drink and eat. And now I don't even think about it, I don't miss pop or the salty snacks that went with it. My vice is cakes :(

I'm still working on kicking the soda habit. It will be easier when it is all out of the house. (My hubby agreed that we shall stay away from sodas) Fast food really hasn't been too big of a problem for me, with a family of 5 it makes it too expensive to do a lot. The hardest thing for me to watch is my bread intake. I love bread and chips.

I gave up both pop and candy, not really to lose weight but to be healthier. I don't need those extra empty calories. They just didn't fit into my new lifestyle.

I hardly every drink soda, and now that I'm back to healthy eating I don't drink it at all and don't really miss it.

One things I crave like crazy normally is chocolate! and chips every once in a while. But for the last week and a half I have had neither. I do plan on still having chocolate because I find the week before my period I crave it like mad and it I don't have some even just a little I get really B*tchy. however I don't have it in my apartment anymore and so when I really really need the chocolate I have to walk to the store to get some.

It was hard for me but was for hubby, b/c i no longer buy it, means none for him unless he is out of the house. lol. my thing that i gave up was fast food, especially fries. I cant remember the last time I had a fried fry, i usually bake sweet potato fries.

Hubby bought me a pack of M&M's yesterday when he went to the store for peas (I wanted pasta salad for Mother's Day) I ate a couple handfuls and had to put them away because they made me sick to my stomach! I sure don't miss that feeling after I eat the junk!

When I was younger like between 8 to 16 years old.I used to eat fast food once a week now I might get a cheese burger once a month.I only had like 2 cookies in the last 30 days same for cup cakes I might have had 3 nutty bars in the last month.

I have really cut back on my snacking. And I really don't mind giving them up ether.I don't even buy a candy bar at the check out anymore.

Fast food!

I used to eat a LOT of fast food and realized that it was one of the biggest factors in my weight gain! I have cut back to where I only eat it if we're traveling and there are no other choices (and it wasn't an option to bring food with us) and then I make smarter choices. When I really need to have chicken nuggets I get a kids meal which gives me enough food to satisfy my hunger and also my craving for it.

I also found ways to make similar foods at home, but baked instead of fried, and it helps me make healthier choices while not giving up foods I enjoy. I'm the kind of person that I wouldn't be able to cut out foods that I love completely because I might make it a week or two like that but then go crazy and binge on it and then hate myself afterwards

I don't miss soda at all anymore, and diet sodas tend to upset my stomach so I stick to iced tea (unsweetened), hot tea (herbal...yum!) or water. If I am really bored with water, I occasionally throw in one of those crystal light packets.

I feel so much better not eating garbage that I don't really miss any of it.

Diet soda. I drank that instead of regular soda thinking that it was better for me. I quit drinking it and felt so much better afterwards physically. I thought it might have been because of the artificial sweetners in the sodas now a days. I don't eat anything with them in it, I just eat the real thing =)

I never had any withdraw symptoms from kicking the soda habit. Which is quite remarkable for me. I don't even drink diet soda. That's mostly because of my doctor. She told me that even when you drink diet soda the chemicals in it mimic sugar and trick the brain, so that causes insulin to be released into the body. The extra insulin sends a message to your brain telling you you're hungry and it makes you eat.

Why even bother with something that is going to make you consume more calories when you're trying to burn them off? ...Now, kicking the smoking is going to be a challenge!

I quit drinking soda right when I started. I never drank a ton of it, so I never had any type of withdrawal symptoms (headaches, etc.). I did miss it at first, especially since my office provides free sodas for the taking. I have a hard time passing up free stuff so that was a big deal for me. Now, I'm not even tempted. If I drink soda now, it makes me want to go brush my teeth from all the sugar.

After I had been eating healthy for a while, I gave up plain milk chocolate (unless it has peanut butter too, then it's a case by case basis). Similar to soda, it just tastes like eating a bunch of sugar to me now. Eventually, I even gave up the low-quality dark and "semi-sweet" chocolate, so now I really only eat the really dark stuff (~70%) and love it!

I used to drink at LEAST 3 cans of pop a day, and I got the cravings and headaches, and all that fun jazz. But after day two its completely gone. And I tried to have one the other day, as a treat to myself. And I didn't even like the taste of it, so I didn't drink it. I definitely don't miss it right now. But at the same time, if I could be healthy and drink it I probably would just because I got so much enjoyment out of it... but hey I guess that's what an addiction is? But no cravings or anything right now, so I am good hehe.

I don't really miss anything else, if I want something I fit into my calories for the day. I can't eat anything I want... but I can eat a certain amount of it.

Soda is next on my list...lol I picked up Pepsi Max (diet soda) so that I would stop drinking beer (too many calories lol)... so drink a fair bit of diet soda right now, which while its got no sugar, I guess the chemicals are still super bad...

But having only just given up beer, I need some 'habit' to get me through, given that I've cut done chocolate AND junk food...lol

I gave up Soda when I was still a teen once when my family was trying to eat right.. I never picked the habit back up and i'm happy for it. I also find that when I drink a little it just tastes like pure sugar and I have to always drink a glass of water right behind it to get rid of the taste..so why bother in the first place? lol

I don't miss any foods that I have given up. I still eat what I like just in healthier versions. I guess the one that stands out the most would be chips. If I had chips around I could just sit and eat them all but I won't even buy them occasionally because I prefer to eat sides with some nutritional value. CRAVING the healthy foods make it to where I don't even miss the unhealthy foods.

Pop/Soda was one of the things I dropped I long time ago... I can't even remember when I stopped drinking pop, but I would have to say it's got to be well over 1.5 years ago. I pretty much only drink water and unsweetened Iced Tea, even when I wasn't following on my SP. Once in a while I will have a little something, but I always find that pop makes me feel sick if I drink even one cup... so I definitely do not miss pop, though I do remember it being pretty hard to break the sugar addiction!

I have to say, going the last week or so with out soda (pop) has been an eye opener. I find that I don't even miss the sugary beverage, especially when its about 150 calories for an 8oz glass. So my question to everyone is: Is there something you stopped eating to lose weight and don't miss?
