You just have to limit yourself to occasionally, or make sure you try to portion yourself out when you are there. If we are going somewhere I love and I know its bad for me, I always ask for 2 glasses of water right away, or a pitcher if they have them and try to fill up on that first. Helps to get your 8 glasses in and you won't be running on empty when that plate comes around. Also, if you like the burger but can live without the fries, ask for a veggie or side salad instead. that has been one of my biggest changes, and I really don't miss the fries at all... : ) Good luck! : )

I still go. My favorite place is a japanese and sushi restaurant (japanese I believe is deamed one of the heathiest types of cuisine too), and I love going there but I just restrict myself to what I eat. Or, I save up and let myself enjoy that one meal with what I want, but the rest of the week stay on my plan.

I've gone out with friends a few times since I've started and they've actually helped choose restaurants that have their nutrition posted for me. :)

Pretend the money isn't there that will top you. My biggest problem is I love to eat pasta. I do good through the day but at night I have a couple plates of spaghetti and then sleep on it.

One thing I have learned with all my weight loss efforts is to never deny myself the good stuff that I love just because it isn't healthy. I just eat it less frequently and in smaller portions.

When it comes to dining out and we're going to one of my favorite restaurants where its hard for me to order a healthy meal I ask for a to-go box with my meal and immediately put half of the meal in the to-go box before I start eating - out of sight, out of mind! Then I don't feel tempted to eat the whole meal or feel like I'm wasting anything if I don't eat it all. Plus you get the added bonus of having something for lunch the next day at no extra cost! :-)

Thank you all so much for your input! After reading I've been able to see what's really getting at me: I end up feeling guilty about "giving in" to a restaurant. Take yesterday for example... I ended up eating out with my mom yesterday at Ruby Tuesday's and I beat myself up over it soooo badly! I counted the darn quesadilla which was like a 1000 calories and I just kept eating fruit for the rest of the day so I didn't do too much damage on the calorie count. I would love it so much if I could just give it up for one week to know that I could live without a restaurant. Maybe that'll be next week's goal...

I don't go out to eat very often. If I do go to a restaurant, I refuse to feel guilty about it. I want to change my life and, frankly if it is something extreme I will not stick to it. I calculate the food, but I don't beat the crap out of myself for it. If I did, I would just feel guilty and then eat weirdly at home because of it.

When we go to restaurants we usually hit up chains like Denny's and Applebee's, because I know they offer a few semi-healthy alternatives besides salad. At Applebee's I always ask for a serving of their steamed broccoli! So good.

I think it's kinda fun to find NEW and healthier items at my old favorite restaurants. I agree that you can indulge once in awhile but not all the time. Next time you go, make it an adventure. Challenge yourself to try new, and healthier, items or eat less of the meat and more of the veggies. Hope this helps. Best,

My favorite place is On the Border and Moe's Southwest Grill...both of them are mexican. It is my ultimate favorite kind of food. Queso is my weakness. I could eat it all day without complaint. I just totally avoid them at all costs. I dont think I'd have the will power to go there and be good...and how do you be good at a mexican place without having to stick to bland salads?! And fajitas aren't my thing because I dont like vegetables lol its always chicken, with lots of queso, sour cream....god, I need to stop talking about it. Just started my diet yesterday lol

Maybe try cutting down slowly. Like, reduce it to one time a week and then maybe try different restaurants after that. Unfortunately, it's pretty common that changing your lifestyle into a healthier one can put a strain on your relationships, especially if they revolve around food, as so many do. If you ease your friends into the changes, then maybe they'll be more eager to make the changes with you. Good luck!

I would try to talk to my friends and explain that you're trying to eat better and this place is just too tempting for words. Suggest a different place where you know they have better alternatives. If the people who are asking you to go out with them are friends they'll understand and want to support you. Maybe you can make 1 meal at that restaurant a reward say if you've met all your goals for 2 weeks then you can go to the restaurant you crave. hope this helps!

I can completely relate. Most restaurants I can do, but there is this asian buffet place that is soooo good. At this point I have just been declining or saying how about such-and-such restaurant. I've been up front with most of my friends about my weight loss and changing restaurants hasn't been a big deal. I just don't have enough self control to eat healthy at a buffet yet. Is there another Chinese restaurant with your favorites that is not a buffet?

What do you do if someone asks you to go to your favorite restaurant? And I'm not talking about your favorite restaurant with your healthy meals but your favorite before you changed to a healthy lifestyle. For instance, we have a Chinese buffet nearby that I absolutely adore. They have sushi and vegetable rice noodles and teriyaki and well, you get the picture, I love it. How do you say no? I try to picture my goals in my head and I just give in! I don't care that I've wrecked the exercise that I did that morning. I can avoid every other "bad" food at home or in the grocery store but when it comes to restaurants I haven't gotten it down just yet and I've been practicing healthy living for two months now. If this were a once every two weeks problem, I wouldn't worry about it much but this is still a 2-3 times a week problem. If I quit this habit, I think I would see a little more progress. What do you all do to handle this and thanks for the input in advance!
