Keeza25 don't feel bad lol. Sometimes I can not lose any weight in a week most times I can lose about 10 pounds in a week then the week after I gain about half of it back then the week after that I lose a few pounds but most times I do not lose any weight at all and I do think to myself what I am doing wrong here.

KEEZA25 I've found the "my fitness" part of Spark is fairly accurate, or atleast it matches up to what the machine at the gym says I burn after entering my age and weight.

AMANDA_ROSE: I know how you feel! I had taken some vacation time last week and I had 6 days away from the office. My time off didn't go as planned, so I sat on my butt and did nothing but snack for 4 of those 6 days. I put on 4 pounds. Man! I was mad at myself. The fact that you got up and continued to exercise really says something, though. Rather than feel sorry for yourself, you got up! emoticon

You want to know something. I didn't loose it on Halloween and I am sure I won't do terrible at Thanksgiving, but I had a really terrible fight with my closest friends and if the scale is right I put on 7 pounds in the last week and a half. I feel absolutely terrible. I got up, did my work out tonight, but out of 20 pound loss since June I just put 7 of it back on. I am at the lowest point I have been at since I started this journey. I am not sure how I even got myself up to do my work out.

It can be really hard, but I have found other ways to have fun. This year I am making everyone gift baskets with baked goods for Christmas and they will all be healthy baked goods. I want to sneak it in without telling them and see if they notice the difference. And i don't think they will. For me, I am planning to continue to lose during the holidays and will work as hard as I can to do it...

It seems like holidays are the worst time to try and lose weight. From October to February each year, I seem to gain weight like crazy. I love candy and junk food and its always abundent this time of year. This year, though, I'm not going to gain my annual weight around the holidays. Its just not worth it in the end. I want to enjoy the holidays but enjoy them without eating everything in sight. Good luck to everyone during the holidays!

You know, I think that we all have a major weakness for holiday food. Thanksgiving is all about this HUGE dinner, and Christmas, well, not only do I have to say no to chocolate, but my family only makes tamales for Christmas. And they are as good as they are full of calories. I know that if I try to deny myself all of this food, I will lose it and end up cheating right and left for the next two months...so I am allowing myself to eat what I want (without being ridiculous) on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day ONLY. NO LEFTOVERS FOR ME!!! If I know I get to enjoy those two days, I think that it will keep me from all of this pre/post holiday snacking...

The depo is bad for weight gain. I just talked to my doc and she didnt want to use the Implanon or the patch either for "heavier people" (that really hurt That was the first time I had been called that since I was like 115 before I had my two boys) She wants me to go on Mirena since I am awful with pills and it can last up to 5 yrs and doesnt cause as much weight gain b/c it only uses one of the hormones instead of 2 or 3 like the others. The other things I dont know much about. I know steroids can cause weight gain I gained 20 lbs in a week on prednizone. Good luck and if you are concerned and your dr says that things dont cause it look it up and if you find anything that says weight gain is a side effect take it to the dr and show them. Sometimes you just have to do your homework to get them to acknowledge your concerns

Yes. I did stay within my calorie range yesterday AND worked out. Okay, sort of. When DH got home, we were on our way to the car to head to the gym and it was 50 degrees outside (warmer than normal), so I asked him if he'd like to go for a walk instead of going to the gym. I still got in a work out. I walked a mile and 1/2, but I was able to change it up a bit. I really do look forward to going to the gym and working out. It gives me such a sense of accomplishment. It can be monotonous at times, so it's good to suppliment walks when you can. Anyhow, I made it through yesterday and I'll make it through today, and tomorrow and the rest of my life. I have to. I'm sick of being this way. Growing up, I always felt like I never had control of my life. My mom prepared all of out meals with what she had. Usually the cheapest food is the most fattening. We didn't have a lot of money, and with six kids in the house, you couldn't expect to have a special set of healthy foods for yourself. Also, when I'd start trying to become healthy and exercise or something, she'd say things that damaged my motivation. Like telling me that I was just a health nut wannabe. I know she didn't mean to sabotage my efforts, but it worked.

The thing is, I do have control over my own life. I may still hear negative comments like that, but I have the choice to continue to let them affect me, or to embrace the challenge! So, I may be a health nut wannabe. At least I want to be something better. I do not have more money to raise my family than she did, but I buy healthier foods for myself AND my family! There are no "off limit" foods in my house like there was when I was growing up. My son is allowed to eat the peaches, unlike I was.

I will no longer let my past dictate who I am today.

Sorry about the long post. Just needed to vent.

You have all the right tools and thoughts. Afterall, you decided to make your own pizza instead of going out. I try to think of this journey as a rollercoaster. Life does happen, and you have your ups and downs, but if you keep the right thoughts in the back of your mind you will do great. I notice that if I don't get my workout in, I don't feel as well as I do on days I get it in. I bet once you get there, you'll love the way you feel and complete your workout.

Okay, I have been doing absolutely awesome for the past 2 weeks. But I almost lost it today on pizza. I had an enormous craving, but decided to buy low fat ingredients and make my own. My whole meal was only 474 calories & 17 grams of fat. A lot better than going out for pizza. However, now I'm fighting the urge to stay home from the gym tonight. I'm going to go. It's just that I'm seeing so much progress. I've lost 10 lbs in 2 weeks and it's awesome! It's just that I feel like it's going to end and somehow I'm going to sabotage myself like I always have in the past!

The Dove Dark Chocolate Almond Cranberry bars are AWESOME!!! They come with 3 bars in them (tempting I know) and they are only 170 calories each!

Hi Beverly - I sometimes get munchies around early afternoon and I usually satisfy these with a handful of almonds or some cottage cheese - almonds are high in good fats and protein and cottage cheese is also high in protein, which helps you feel full longer.

I'm having a hard time staying away from sweet treats! My housemates have a big bowl of candy (including Kit Kats, my favorite!) in our living room and I've already had 3 mini bars today. Anyone have any good candy subsitutes??

I just started my diet and am having a problem. I am on day# 2 and have been good. I walk/jog at least 3 miles a day. (training a service dog and a tired dog is a good dog.) Well the problem I am facing is I eat my meals and I am still hungry at lunch time. That is the only meal I am having problems with. Does anyone have any advice? I don't want to cheat but my tummy hurts to badly.

Thanks,
Beverly

I have learned that when you are hungry eating a small snack with both a piece of protein and a small amount of whole grain carbs gives you nutrients and keeps you fuller longer. So try having a piece of fruit and some pistachios or almonds you won't be as hungry and even satisfy a sweet craving :-)

I'm so annoyed at myself. I was making good progress until last week. I decided to stop working out and stop tracking calories for some reason last week? I cheated a little too...

I know I'm going to pay for it at my weigh-in tomorrow.

A regular size round cake conut is 2oz so I would estimate your muffin is the same. Calories are important but it is still different for each person. My boyfriend is a large man and eating 3000 calories a day has him down about 15lbs in two weeks. It does take some training to get body used to less calories. I choose the step down method. I was eating too much so I forced it down to 1700 calories and when I was doing good with that I got it down to 1500 and now that I knpow better how to stay full and ditch unnecessary calories I can keep it between 1200 and 1500. Good Luck with that.

Whenever I have a PANIC moment- which usually occurs after weightin when I have only lost a pound and I toss all my good thoughts out the window and have a burger. . . I keep a small bag of hersheys bliss chocolate bites in the house. I have a small jar by my desk and when I have an overwhelming urge to eat alot of junk I take one and break it in half and slowly eat the two halfs. Let it melt in my mouth so that I get all the flavor and don't waste any of it. Then I keep the wrapper til the end of the day to make sure I don't eat too many or lie to myself. If that doesn't beat the craving I will have a small handful of nuts and then I get something salty to make me stop.

That just works for me because chocolate isn't my binge trigger baked foods are. I will dive into a box of donuts never to return or eat brownies til I keel over dead. Chips are also a downfall. I have been known to eat a whole ton of those at a time.

hey everyone... i guess today is a trying day all around. we just had a freak thunderstorm with hail so i guess winter is coming and PDQ! anyway for those of you trying to get/stay full by drinking water have you tried a mixin? i found that if i put a sugar free mixin in my water the taste and the color fool my body into thinking its getting a treat and i get full where normally i would have rumbly tummy (as my 2 year old calls it). just a suggestion. keep up the good work emoticon

Trying to add in my Calories for the day....

I had a small blueberry muffin with breakfast this morning. SP shows calorie info for 1oz. My question is... what the heck does 1oz look like?

Since this was as my son's school in an effort to convince him to eat, I don't have any leftovers to weigh now.

If I had to guess, I'd say it was about an inch tall and 3 inches across

ok, so I read something on one of the Spark pages about being hungry. I guess it's temporary and I should eat more fiber, drink more water, etc. I have been doing that. I'll try more low calorie, filling foods. By the time the day was over, I had about 1770 calories. Still a lot better than 3000, but still...

I'm hoping today will be better. I started my day with some leftover chicken, because I have a feeling I'm lacking in protein and that is part of my problem. I'm also going to try chewing sugar free gum.

The way out is through.

HELP!

I am soooo hungry right now. It's about 2:30pm here. So far today I've had about 900 calories. Carbs 138, fat 26, protein 53, fiber 28. I've had 6 glasses of water today so far. I have not exercised yet today, but I have been busy doing stuff, so I'm not just bored hungry.

About 20 minutes ago I had a cup of light yogurt, half an apple, and 3 beef raviolis. The raviolis were the home made kind, not the chef boyardee kind.

I'm trying to stick to the SP recommended 1200-1550 calories a day. This is my third day taking my calorie count seriously. Friday I had 1597 and yesterday I had 1610. I'm wondering if my body is not adjusting well to the calorie reduction.

Should I just stick with it? Should I eat more calories for a few days and then scale back more slowly? Am I missing something here?

The way out is through.

We will find a better place, in this twilight.

Ah, the magic Angle...haha! SO glad to see that I am no the only one who uses that for her Myspace pics. Yeah, I have a hard time with portion control, or ANY control on my days off. I am not the kind of person that can just have 5 chips or one cookie. It is best that I don't mess with it, because if I do, I try to rationalize bad food decisions for the rest of the day.

I didn't read all 1100 posts here but I got the idea from the last few... my snack drawer at work used to have a bag of Hershey Almond candies, a bag of Chili Cheese Fritos and some cheddar popcorn. Thankfully it now has Fish Oil capsules, Crystal Light packets, pretzels, etc. I no longer grab a coke or diet coke from the frig, I just refill my water bottle and add Crystal Light when I need some flavor.

I will be very happy when I can take my picture and be happy with it instead of holding the camera at the "magic" angle. :)

Good luck to all!

I think snacking is good to keep you satisfied throughout the day, and so you don't over eat at meals. I tend to have a piece of fruit, or some yogurt, or something small, but I tend to not over-do it even if it is something else b/c I know I've gotta track it!

I snack and have to not keep snacks in the house, if i have any Ill start with one portion and go back for another, before you know it I've eaten about 500 calories of dried mango. My other problem is lunch, i have to only have a small portion available or Ill keep going back for seconds, thirds, etc, portion control is my biggest problem, though I don't have it at breakfast or dinner.
How did some of you get that "icon" for lack of a better word at the bottom of your post saying how much weight you've lost?

Emptying that drawer was a good start. Try not to buy the unhealthy options and keep bad foods off limits at work. Not sure if you are close with anyone there but tell them so they keep you on track :)

I personally need a panic button at work. I've been home for 4 weeks and have another week to go and I haven't been snacking. Not that there's not snacks in the house but I haven't had the need. I now worry that when I go back to work I will be snacking once again. I will make an effort though not to fill the snack drawer. (Good thing I emptied it before I left!) :)

I have the opposite problem. I work at a fast food restaurant and have a hard time eating healthy at work. At home I can eat healthy no problem. I have been thinking of food as calories and calories like money. So before I "buy" anything I have to think if I can afford it. I hope this helps at least a tiny bit! emoticon

I have the same situation ... My husband used to be so fit ... then we got married and we both gained weight... I was always a lil chunky now I am beyond chunky...=/ Anyway during my work week I eat just fine. I bring my lunch everyday, and cook dinner... but the weekends mess me up! ... Football just started and Sundays I need to focus on not eating all the crap that everyone else does. I hate how food can just take over. lol... I try to always think I do not need to eat everything. It will always be there another day. I forgot to think that yesterday though. emoticon

I know what you guys mean! I have to keep from buying anything bad. One of my roomates has similar goals to mine, so she eats healthy, the other (who is a stick)doesn't. He might eat some of the health food, but he stocks the fridge with frozen pizzas and burritos. I can handle that, but every once in a while I find Dorritos or cookies in the cabinet. That's when the trouble starts! Haha!
I work graveyard, 12 hours shifts, 4 times a week. At work it is easy to eat right. I have no other choice but to eat the food that I bring! It's my 3 days off that do the damage. I'm so busy running errands and tired from the work week that it is VERY hard to not order pizza or meet friends for chinese or burgers.

That is one perk of living alone....I don't have to worry about what kind of food someone else brings into the house. I know I can't have stuff like that because I feel like I have to eat it right away, so I simply don't buy it. And if I do want a treat I'll buy a very small portion of it (like one cookie from the bakery counter somewhere as opposed to a whole package for example). My main problem is I LOVE to bake, and I love to bake very decadent, full fat desserts....I take them to work for my co-workers, but I like to taste my creations to decide if there are any alterations I want to make to the recipe or if I think it's a recipe worth making again in the future. So it's not only at home that I have to be careful, with all the treats and candy dishes around work, it's just as hard there for me.

Candice- I can TOTALLY relate!! I don't keep anything in the house- candy, cookies, cake/brownie mixes, pop, etc- because it will be gone in a matter of days.
It's like having that stuff in the house gives me the right to eat it, all at once. The other day I made cookies for supper with my SIL, I made extra's and in the middle of the afternoon, I had eaten 7 in a row without even realizing what I was doing!!
My husband too tells me I should exercise some self-control. I tell him, he doesn't understand because I have a relationship with food. It is the one thing that is always there, always comforts, and never asks what's wrong if I am crying. He still doesn't understand.

I can relate with almost every post on here. Especially the one about eating out of fear of missing out. The day of my birthday my husband brought me a b-day cake home and some ice cream, and for whatever reason I only had one piece. The next day was when my diet started. That whole day I like felt regretful for not eating another piece of that cake. I also don't keep food that are going to make me feel in the house. I don 't buy waffles, pop tarts, candy, cake mixes, nothing. I also try to stay away from ingredients that when mixed together would also cause me to fail. If I am having company I will go that day to the store to find something to make for dessert because any sooner than that it just wouldn't last. My husband says that I should be able to exercise some self control...but the things that I choose not to buy are already in fact "bad" for you because of all the preservatives, dyes, and artificial ingredients. I feel that it is good for every person to know what foods trigger them so they can avoid them. I absolutely love this group :)

Hi guys!
The single serving portions are a great idea and also the 100 calorie packs of goodies are helpful because you know when to stop. there are many ideas that will cure the craving (no-pudge brownies are my thing).

If you one day need to eat the whole pan....LOL....Just do it and stop that craving. You will do better the next day! Dont beat yourself up for it other wise you just want to eat more. Guilt and blame are funny that way. ON SP you can really know its not a diet! just making better decisions for yourself, and lugging around guilt and shame all day is not a good decision. your free now to enjoy your life and choose what you will or will not put in your body. If you choose something that is not the best for you one day, just purpose in your mind to make a better decision tomorrow.

Your doing great already because you at least are thinking about it.

Give yourself the same love, respect and grace you would give anyone else. I know, easier said than done, right?

Well then , I'll just send hugs and good thoughts to everyone who might need them!

Stephanie

I used to have a "treat drawer" where I stashed my candy and ate it alone without the eyes of others. It was until my mom told me that she knew all about my junk drawer. lol My Fiance knows about it as well and it worries him. So after my doctors appointment with my doctor having me now prick my finger to test my blood sugar to make sure I don't have full range diabetes; I threw everything out!

There are no pictures of me eating just pictures of me wearing all black to make myself look slimmer lol.

I just eventually realized that I couldn't keep things like that in the house. If I want a treat like that I will buy one single serving as opposed to a whole thing of ice cream or a whole bag of chocolate...otherwise I lose control.

Who are we kidding? We all have these pictures taken of us with the camera held up in the air to make us look thinner. Why is food such a comfort? Why can't we just....stop. Maybe its that cooking seems like too much work. Good and healthy food takes time to make. We can make it taste really nummy though, right? I have a bowl of chocolate kisses in my house, for guests, but I seem to empty it most of the time. Ah well...Just keep swimming, just keep swimming, tra la la la la.

I eat when I'm feeling bored or happy or sad, pretty much anything. I want to stop. It's crazy, I can't stop myself once it begins. I just eat whatever I want and really regret it later. Tomorrow is my birthday and I don't want to be fat forever.
I worry that I've wasted my youth being fat.I want to make a renewed commitment tomorrow.

I hear ya! Today I ate 3 slices of pizza...and they weren't small. Blah. When I do stuff like that, it's easy for me to just keep going. I had to tell myself that I screwed up, I couldn't take it back, and to accept it and keep on truckin. No sense in making it worse by kicking myself. Otherwise, I would have had 2 more slices...

Yep, calories in vs. calories out (or burned) is about as simple as it gets. Which is why I don't get all these diet pills; but whatever. I have found too with my new food allergies that I really miss what I used to eat. Yes, I am going to lose a lot of weight really quickly by only eating veggies and fruit and some meats...but it really makes me want to binge more on the things I love, like chocolate and ice cream and steak and potatoes. Dying from allergic reactions really puts that into perspective now for me.

So, do yourself a favor; enjoy the food in moderation, but also get your excersise in as well. It just makes eating those foods so much more enjoyable, knowing that you can eat what you want and still have your health to be able to get out and excercise and use the abilities that you have to walk, or run, or play ball or whatever you like to do.

Now that I can't eat what I want for fear of being deathly ill, I wish I would have appreciated the fine flavors of different cuisines...

Elle - Ive learned over the last 18 months that its a simple science...no matter what you eat weight loss is an effect of calories consumed v. calories burnt. I worried less about what I was eating as long as I was burning more calories than I consumed. You will lose 1lb for every 1000 calorie deficit you create. The nice part is that part of that 1000 will come from your metabolism.

My nutrition counselor also said that your body can only process so many carbs at one time, so yes eating more smaller meals is more beneficial than skipping meals then catching up with a bigger meal.

Your body will get tired, and your mind will start to wonder. Its then that you realize that this isnt about training your body - its about training your will. This is about changing my mind, challenging my will, and accomplishing what I didn't think I ever would.

"I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious"

when i have done weight things in the past, it's always been a once a week thing. b/c you vary up and down a little bit every day. My personal fave is to do it once a week b/c that's what i'm used to. but if you go by how you're feeling, and measurements or whatever besides the scale number, then less often might work for you emoticon

Dont get worked up over it sometimes its comes and it goes. Just keep up with you routine. You are doing wonderful. If you need anything we are all here to help you and keep in mind why you are doing this. Weekends are always the worst so keep healthy snacks in reach and try and eat little at a time. You are doing good. Keep up the good work. The further you get into it the hard it starts to get. As you keep it up it will begin to come naturally. Good motivation comes with remembering why you are doing it. I am available if you need anything I myself sometimes think I could just give up because I dont have the motivation I need but then I think about how much I truly want it and why I need to do it.

I have been at this now for a month and a half and I have only lost 5pnds. I had to slow down becuase I hurt my knee but now that I am starting to feel little better I have lost that drive. I have only lost like a pound in two weeks so at least I am not gaining. but I just don't know how to get back on track. I am so tired of being heavy and I need to find motivation.

you will beat your self up as soon as you take the last bite, eat 3 and drink a bunch of water, toss the rest or give em away, that way you are not being "mean" to yourself, but you are in "control"....drink as much water as possible, it will curve you app for them

Don't let your impulsive wants- overcome your future goals that you have for your life- for your health.....

TOMAKEITWORK: When you first start out you usually lose bigger amounts for the first few weeks...sometimes it is just water weight...not me I started 3 weeks ago and have lost 3 lbs! Oh well, it is better then gaining.

I understand the self-control issues. I ate two-cupcakes yesterday..they were calling my name. I usually don't keep that stuff in the house, but my daughter's b-day was this weekend.

So, I friggin' love fast food breakfast but I have been trying so hard, in a desperate attempt, I went to our local grocery store and bought 2 types of breakfast hot pockets, one sausage egg and cheese and the other bacon egg and cheese, they are smaller but filling and they did the "breakfast sandwich trick for 140-160 calories)

Bah!
DH took us out for burgers last night at the local burger place....and I ate! Gah! My lack of self-control really floors me sometimes!

Other panic button issue: I've been following my exercise regimen for five days and I'm down 5lbs from my starting weight! I'm afraid that I'm losing weight too quickly.

LADYBUG_1983: I just got your message so I might not be much help, but I have the same problem of really craving the taste. Have you tried to experiement with different seasonings. I have been using a lot of garlic powder, I will make scrambled egg whites with garlic, and I love it. Hopefully that helps some.

LADYBUG_1983, I know this is a bit late, but DON'T DO IT!!! I'm the same way EXACTLY! I always crave McDonalds BFast sandwiches and NOTHING I can make at home would ever taste close enough to satisfy that craving! Just remember your goals and how that would detract you from them! As someone that has the same problem I know how evil this sounds but it IS all mental. Food is fuel, not for fun. Hope you made the right decision, and if not, it's not over b/c of one sandwich!
