I completely agree with you about drinking. I really want to go out and hang with friends, but that ALWAYS involves alcohol! It is so difficult! So instead, I limit myself to going out once a month and I'll go a little crazy. But going out for dinner with a friend always tastes better with a cocktail! It's so difficult! I just avoid it, that's the only thing I can think of. Yes, there are healthier options, but I don't find them useful. I suppose some club soda or tonic water mixed with flavored vodka is going to be your best best. I've done that before...it just isn't as fun :(

Thanks for the advice! And my downfall for alcohol is margaritas too! I guess I will be skipping those for a while except for an occasional Skinny Girl Margarita.

As a man, turning 22 in July, I am quite strange. I do not drink, at all. I just don't feel like it or have any reason to.

I was going to say that article that Emerald posted... I have it on my favorites list just in case I need to check it. But yeah, light beers and if you have the stomach for straight shots, go for it.

(I have a huge problem here, because I would die for a margarita. Any time. Any day. LOL!)

There's a great article on here about Diet-Friendly Alcohol Choices if you haven't seen it already: https://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/nutrit
ion_articles.asp?id=893

Try alternating an alcoholic drink with a glass of water. It'll slow you down and fill you up at the same time, plus it gives you something to do during social situations where you feel like you need a drink in your hand! Bar food isn't great no matter what you get, but if you need to eat try to go with something like chicken fingers that is a little more filling with the protein, so you're not mindlessly eating chips and dip.

As for drinks, obviously light beer and wine are better choices, or something basic like rum and diet coke, gin or vodka tonic, or martini....try to stay away from the super fruity mixes and anything creamy! My favorite is a vodka tonic with lime and a splash of diet sprite - it gives it enough sweetness that it kicks the tonic taste, but not enough to cost me calories. A lot of places also can do "light" versions of cocktails - usually a good bartender will know how to substitute so your drink doesn't do quite so much damage to your diet - just ask! :)

Good luck!!

By drinking it straight without the mixes you can cut out a lot of the excess calories. Also, opt to have only 1 or 2 drinks.

Theres so much sugar, calories, and carbs that comes with drinking...Does any one have good tips of cutting back on calories etc besides the obvious of not drinking...Any good low cal/carb/sugar alcoholic drinks??
