I am new to SparkPeople and I must say, so far I like it. I have done a good job at tacking everything I eat and my workouts. I walk every day, I found it easier to put upbeat music on my IPod and listen to it while I walk. I started my diet on Saturday of last week and today when I weighed I had lost 5lbs. I was so excited to see that my efforts have paid off. I still have a long way to go, but I keep my head up and keep telling myself that I can do it. I have great support from friends.

Good luck everybody!!!

Glad you're back! That's the important thing right? Everyone falls off the wagon every now and then. I do the same thing except I usually dont get far enough to actually lose anything before I start being bad again.

I find the message boards to be a great motivator. I see other people going through the same struggles and I dont feel so alone. And a lot of people are finding such great success that it's inspiring.

Good luck!!

Hi

I have been on the Dr bernstein diet for three weeks and lost 10 lbs. Has anyone else tried this? I heard the weight is easily gained back if you follow their strict diet. Did you kept the weight off?

Hello,
It's been a while since I've used sparkpeople and I've never used the message boards so I've decided it may help. I have been feeling down about my weight for a while now and I have decided to get back to tracking my food and exercise. I lost 8lbs in the spring and I have seem to gain it all back. I always get into that cycle where I see progress so I stop doing what was working and gain it back. I don't know why I do this but I need to change that behavior.

I did do some slight strength training and core work tonight and tomorrow starts my daily food tracking and cardio. I spent sometime today re-setting my goals...so I'm ready and motivated. emoticon

Katelyn,

Thank you! The best piece of advice I can give is to always keep your head up. Anytime you feel like it is getting a little too tough, remind yourself of why you are doing this. When I started, I had all kinds of pains in my legs and ankles or I would be short of breath. Anytime I felt like I was going to die, I stopped for 5 seconds, got my breath, and then resumed my workout. I'm still having times where I have to do this, and it helps me every time, but over the last month, things have got a bit easier. 6 months ago, I would have just quit the workout, but now I remain focused on my goal and remind myself of why I need to reach that goal.

Try to have some fun with your workouts, too. Keep them interesting. I recommend switching things up so you don't get bored quickly. Welcome to SP and good luck on your journey! You will do great!

Hello everybody!

I'm pretty new to this site. I have been trying to track everything I eat or plan to eat and wow! I can tell I was over eating before!

I have had Insanity for a few moths now. The box is really pretty and shiny...I decided it was time to actually quit looking at the cover and put one in...It's hard!

My husband decided to do the DVD program with me and I'm so excited to have him next to me. Because it's so hard, it's nice that we can motivate each other. Before we started we took "Before" photos...HOW EMBARRASSING! I hope to be able to show a great "After" photo sometime in the future!!

Today is day 3 and we are both pretty sore from yesterday but we are committed to continuing. I hope to be able to post progress soon.

Happy tracking,

Kristy

I also have to lose over 40 pounds. I started with a goal of 35 just to make it more managable. I am also feeling very overwhelmed. I have been feeling the same way as you today. I just want to be thinner now! I want those "instant results" It is really dragging down my mood. I am trying to just focus on the little things and take it day by day. Hopefully that will help. Good luck!! I am sure you can do it, if you just stay focused.

Hello all! I am so excited about getting healthy again and I LOVE that I can keep track of my calorie intake with sparkpeople. I am feeling overwhelmed to think that I need to lose over 40 pounds! How am I ever going to reach that goal! And in a society of "instant results" I find myself constantly reminding myself that this will not happen overnight. Just needing some encouragement I suppose. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! :)

Hello all,

I'm new here and I just wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. I joined SP in 2008 but wasn't dedicated at all and gained a ton of weight. I'm glad to be back and I'm giving myself a second chance to get healthy. I'm extremely excited for this new chapter in my life!!

Interesting idea about the blueberries, do you use frozen or fresh? Ever try it in a smoothie?

I also like the idea about the popcorn. I do that as well.

Or sometimes I just have a protein drink in the evenings to hold me over.

When it comes to my night time munchies I usually have a few calories left in the bank and my favorite snack that satisfies my sweet tooth at the same time is blueberries in milk!! I do use skim milk and you can put any berry in the milk (Growing up that use to be part of breakfast)

@Coleman328

I have the same problem with late night snacking- I have found that air popped popcorn is a great solution. It is low in calories, filling, and takes a while to eat which is important to me cause I've realized that I like the habit more than the actual snack. I usually put hot sauce on mine, or sometimes use spray olive oil and salt and pepper.

I have a hard time with post dinner munchies too, I usually just have to distract myself until I forget that I had it. I think sp part 2 diet has an article about what to do with it that I found to be helpful. I think I also have a hard time saying no in general and I'm so tired of eating more calories than my allowance that I don't even feel like eating anything anymore out of fear. I guess I'll just have to keep working at it.

btw - welcome Carolyn

Hey Coleman,

the question is are you eating those things. Mostly, when we eat next to doing something else we don't even consiously realise we are eating, so why doing it?

Hi, guys!

I'm a great eater throughout the day, sticking to meals I've planned and feeling satisfied throughout. I've also been consistent with working out, really pushing myself to new levels.

However, my greatest hiccup comes in post-dinner down time. After dinner, I'm usually doing work, reading or relaxing, and inevitably I eat something that ruins the day. Sometimes it's nothing major, while other times it's a huge caloric bomb.

I'm not sure how to tackle this. I've tried cutting out a few calories here and there and saving them for the evening, but then I'm hungry during the day, so overeating in the evening is worse. I've tried keeping a sweet treat around, like pieces of dark chocolate, but I never stop at one or two.

Any tips for overcoming the late-night munchies?

Hi everyone,
I need to lose some serious weight to make myself a healthy individual, and have been tracking my food at least on and off on Spark for a while.
I just have trouble starting the exercise or diet. Does anyone have any suggestions how to jump start my process?
I've been beginning to consider taking diet pills for a little while just to show myself some weight can come off. I'd be thankful for any suggestions.

Varilcay - I've had and still have problems with finding the motivation. What works for me is usually to make it a habit. I usually do it when I come home or sometimes I think it's easier to do it right after I wake up. I think the hardest time is to actually start so sometimes I also set a time to do it, if you make up your mind about doing it, it's a lot easier to start.
When I'm on SP as well, I see the joy of people who are living healthy and I want to feel that joy too. Just reading someone's blog or looking at pictures of people who have reached their goals can be extremely motivating. emoticon

emoticon So, as I was laying around last night psyching myself up for this new journey (again) I was pondering why exactly this hasn't been working in the past. Most notably, the recent past (I'm a yo-yo dieter and have lost about 60 lbs twice in my life).

And then it donned on me. I'm a very scheduled person: I get up the same time every morning, take the dog out the same time every morning, go to lunch the same time everyday (work days at least), but I always play my workouts and my meals by ear. (Doesn't make sense, does it? )

So, I decided to make a calender and print it out one week at a time. The calender includes dinner and my workouts . And every individual weekday's workout is repeated that same weekday every week. So Mondays are all the same, Tuesdays are all the same, etc. (However, I am going to advance myself every 2 weeks. Instead of riding a bike for 20 minutes every Monday for 2 months, it's going to advance at least slightly every 2 weeks.)

And I've got to tell you I have a GOOD feeling about this! Usually, especially on the first day of a new diet, I get this dreading sort of feeling in the morning in anticipation for working out later. Because all I know is "I have to go to the gym tonight..." But this morning, I had a real feeling of relief knowing exactly what my workout tonight is going to be. emoticon

I'm really excited about this and I pray with all my heart I can keep this up until I reach my goal. I really really want to feel good again! emoticon

Hi Team!!!! I am on vacation again...Back in March I found SP by accident... I was goggling Stress Management and fitness and stumbled upon SP.....And I am glad I did.....I was so motivated and determined and I was really excited because it was new and I was seeing progress almost daily.....well i am planning to restart, and find my spark again!!!

I know it has been a while since I stopped by and updated my progress....and thats because of many reasons... 1. Work has gotten out of hand again 2. the move threw me off 3.I got bored with it 4. I stopped seeing progress. I can make a million excuses but the truth is I havent.

"I havent had any progress"....well thats negative...I mean I have plateaued and am at a stagnate weight...I havent been consistent with tracking nutrition or fitness.

I have been doing well with taking my long walks with Bella and walking the beach but on the other hand I have been eating ice cream...Pier Fries....fried dough. I havent made a home made meal in like three weeks. Bella loves it here in OOB she loves the beach so I have been getting my cardio in daily but at a low impact and not tracking all of it regularly. I have been doing okay with my water and making it by on my calories but I am back to eating two high calorie meals and feeling like crap. Strenght training and Fitness I have been minimally doing and not tracking...I mean like wall push up in the shower and calf rises in the line to the pier fries....LOL. or get this I actually considered tracking going to the laundry mat as strenght training...lifting laundry baskets and loading and unloading the washer and dryer and then folding it and bringing it back up the stairs.

I also wouldnt know what to tell you all about my weight loss progress because I didnt weigh in for two weeks or shall I say that I weighed myself but didnt track it because I was disappointed. I havent measured myself because I just havent....

Well I am not here to be a negative Nelly I wanted to tell you all I am back!!!! When I first joined SP in March everyone on this team was so welcoming and supportive and it really motivated me...I plan on restarting my plan, my program and my goals.....Like on day one and hopefully I will stick to it this time....just in case I have another vacation in August...and to keep myself accountable I decided to post this on all my teams and message boards...

MamaKBBV- I am not a mom, but I am a busy college student with two jobs and a hectic life as well. I find it helpful to keep almonds in my purse or backpack, I think about 16 Almonds is 100 calories, and they're full of protein to keep you full. Almonds are easy to eat on the go as well. Trader Joe's has something called fiberfull bars, they're like a grown up fruit roll up and as well easy to eat on the go and full of fiber to keep you full in between meals.

Hello! I am not very good at staying up with these message-threads but I think that joining one may help motivation! I'm hoping to change my life (nothing serious then!!) through Sparkpeople, and I know that there are lots of lovely people out there who can help, and I shall do what I can to help others too!

I am a mom to 4 kids, and between cooking for them, feeding the baby and doing laundry cleaning the yard and house, and running them all over God's green earth, I can't find time to eat 5-6 times a day. I have a small breakfast, small lunch and then I'm starving at dinner. I know that is why I have stopped loosing. I also have no time to work out. I just had a baby 6 wks ago and I am now able to work out but I cant find time to do it, and when I have the time I am usually so exhausted from working hard all day that I just want to sit! expecially since there is no way I can get an uninterupted 8 hrs of sleep... any tips?

thats Sparkpeope's advice. I also need advice I hate hate hate hate doing cardio I swear I must have ADD because cardio is so boring to me. I don't have a tv so I can't do like dancing workout videos I'm currently doing the elliptical for 33 mins 5days a week so i'm wondering A is that enough and B what can I do to increase my workout time? However I don't know if I should because I have to study for school and working out takes away from my studying time. I try to review while on the machine but I try working very hard that I can't focus on reading notes and working out.
