The may issue of women's health magazine has a great healthy detox diet that is fabulous. It has all food groups you get protein everyday it is low sodium, only natual sugars and lots of fiber. It helps cleanse your kidneys and liver so they aren't working so hard. I tried it for a week and lost 3lbs. I feel better and am really digesting better. It has different options for each meal and snack so you can mix things up a bit. I actually took it and base my current diet on this. I am at work right now but will grab the article when I get home and post this meal.

A friend of mine swears by a fruit and vegetable cleanse. Nothing but fresh/raw or steamed veggies and fruit for 3 days. I tried it for about a day and half and craved things too much. I needed protein. From what I read about cleanses, I would not recommend them.

I love the Master Cleanse. I never go more than 7 days, I am sure to be hyperaware of how my body is feeling, and I am also sure to drink a ton of water in addition to the lemonade. I also don't do it for weight loss, because I know I will gain 95% of what I lose back almost immediately.

After the MC, I don't crave junk, I crave fruits and vegetables. I feel wonderful during and after the cleanse.

That said - be sure to do your homework if you decide to do ANY sort of cleanse. If you don't pay attention to your body, there could be serious side affects.

and be sure to research the bathroom part of most cleanses - that is what turns many, many people off of them.

Cleanses are a pretty bad idea physically and mentally. Physically they set your body up to hold onto every calorie the second the cleanse is over. Mentally, you're so exhausted and deprived that all you want to do is eat crap when it's over.

Your body is designed specifically to process foods, so long as you're eating natural and not chemically altered food, you don't retain toxins and don't need to 'cleanse'.

Besides, fasting isn't a permanent solution, and when you stop, the weight you lost tends to pile back on, and bring reinforcements. Between the starvation and ending up worse than you started off, it just doesn't seem worth it.

A year from now you can look back at a crazy poinless week of starving that made no difference, or at one or two little changes over an entire year that have helped you drop dress sizes and build a healthier lifestyle.

As far as I've read, a lot of "cleanses" are just fads and not really lasting methods so just be careful with what you choose.

I've done a "Colon Cleanse" or two, and they got my digestive tract back on track, but... Not a fasting cleanse. I generally don't think that anything that severe can be healthy.

It takes time, but diet and exercise really is the best option.

Has anyone tried a fasting cleanse? I have been reading a book about it and the effects sound good? What do you think?
