I only weigh once a week. I get discouraged too!

I weigh myself once a week on Monday morning. I get too discouraged if I do it everyday. I also measure myself so I can see the changes in the inches too. Last week I gained a half pound but I lost an inch almost everywhere on my body except my arms! Looking forward to tomorrow.

I weigh myself once a week sunday mornings are my official weigh ins....but I work at a weigh station and have to walk across the scales everyday to get to the office so I technically weigh myself everyday it's kind of encouraging because everyone around can see how much I weigh in big red numbers on the side of the building...definitely makes me want to lose the weight! emoticon

I was weighing myself once a week at school when we were doing a weight loss competition (my extreme failure in it is what brought me to spark people). I liked only doing it once a week. I just bought a scale 2 days ago and I have been tempted to keep jumping on it when I am in the bathroom.
I'm going to put it somewhere out of sight!

Not - its an unhealthy habit because the scale's #s are not the only numbers that count!!!! don't torture yourself:)

I'm guilty of jumping on the scale every morning now. Sometimes I get a little frustrated, but I realize nothing is going to magically happen over night. I officially weigh in every Monday morning to track my weekly progress.

I really like weighing in every day on the Wii Fit. I actually like this better than than weighing in once a week at my weight loss group meeting(it's in the afternoon, and my weight changes due to water are crazy!). I know there are fluctuations so it doesn't bother me as much if it goes up a bit. And I remember that I'm going to weigh in soon so I eat healthier. It works for me.

Ok, this is going to sound dorky - I weigh in every day so I can statistically analyze whether there is a measurable change in my weight. There, I said it.

I don't look at the number as a thumbs-up or thumbs-down on my actions over the last 24 hours. I instead look at it as a data point along my body's journey, and use statistics to show my trends (like, over time I'm loosing on average 1.4 lbs per week). I only log the weight change once a week on Spark People, because I don't need more fluctuations than that on my official weight tracker.

i have found that i weigh in daily, often without even meaning to. I've decided to try for once a week so my laundry is currently on top of my scale to discourage me for a bit

I agree with another post that says it's a personal preference, whatever you can handle, and that will encourage and not discourage.

GOOD LUCK

I was weighing myself almost everyday but now I've decided to go a month! Atleast this month! I'm tired of the daily fluctuations! So, in a week I will weigh myself!

I have a little obsession with daily weigh-ins (sometimes twice). I also only log the weigh-in on Sundays, but I do like to know where I'm at. I don't get too upset if I don't see a change, but it does brighten my day if there is a change!!

I weigh myself almost every day but I tell myself not to. I only register on the website my weight every Sunday as opposed to every time I happen to lose because there is nothing more depressing than having to get back on spark to make your weight higher. But My obsession stems from years of on and off eating disorders so I know its based in an unhealthy place and the most I can do now is try to ease back on being as compulsive and back off when I can.

I weigh in daily, for pretty much the same reasons you cited. ;) Actually, Most days I weigh in twice. o.o Once in the morning, and a second time on the wii. Not going to lie, if you let it get to you, you can drive yourself completely crazy. Especially if your scales and wii are calibrated differently. BUT, the most important thing is to not psych yourself out over a pound or two of fluctuation. It's normal, frustrating, but normal. I find that days that I fluctuate up, it drives me to work harder - and on days that pounds drop off, it's always fun to do another happy dance. ;) Either way, it's all about you and whether you'd rather know or not know.

Good luck!

I thought weighing in every day would help me keep an eye on my goal. Instead, it only encourages me, in a way, to not gain, rather than to lose. Maybe it's a distinction without a difference, but I'm going to try only weighing in every week or so.

This is just a personal opinion, but i find weighing in daily very discouraging. It doesn't give your body enough time to make changes from the last time you weighed yourself, and who wants to see all the little fluctuations of daily water weight shifting? Not me! haha.

I weigh myself every pay day, and for me that is every two weeks. So on fridays, twice a month, i weigh in. It seems to work well for me so that's what i stick to! Plus, if i don't LOVE the number on the scale..at least i'm getting paid so it's not an absolute HORRIBLE day! HAHA

Good luck!

It's a personal decision, but I would never recommend a daily weigh-in. I know some people say they can do it and not be affected, but I think that's more rare than common.

I think weighing yourself the same time of day once every week (or two) is a great way to go about it. It's a good motivator to me. Working hard and giving it my all for the entire week and getting to see the results at the end.

I was doing daily weigh-ins at one point and I was getting too discouraged. I went to weekly and I enjoy it more since I am able to see my results more, rather then slowly a day at a time.

I changed some of my other habits as well but I do know that I've lost more since doing the weekly weigh-ins than the daily....maybe just a mind trick.

I also generally do a daily weigh-in, but I miss a few days here and there. I've found that with the passing of time I've grown to enjoy the daily weigh-in whether I gain, lose, or stay the same. I like to know where I'm at, and I've definitely learned quite a bit about how sodium can affect my body. It led me to start tracking it!

I think you can weigh in everyday, but you need to make sure you can emotionally handle not seeing a loss (or maybe seeing a slight gain). Somethings cause gains like body cycles, water weight, and muscle growth. If seeing that you haven't lost might ruin your day, then don't weigh in. But, if you can take the good with the bad, by all means try it out. I personally weigh in daily.

So I've noticed that since I've been dieting, which began only at the start of this month... I have had the urge to jump on the scale every single morning with hope for change. I feel somewhat obsessive and I'm not sure if this is a good thing or a not. On days that I don't lose pounds.. or even on days when my weight stays the same, I feel discouraged. I am a very inpatient person and want it all to just be gone. And it sucks when I work my butt of exercising and eating right.. and not seeing a change on the scale. What do you all suggest? How often do you weigh in? Is it bad to jump on the scale every day?
