I love this post. After tracking my food intake this week, I learned that I'm not eating enough calories and I'm only getting half the protein I need. These ideas are awesome! I hadn't thought about cottage cheese on toast or making a shake the night before.

Right now I eat hot oatmeal or Bagelfuls. I really like the Bagelfuls because it's bagel goodness but with 200 calories or less, less than 5 grams of fat, 6g of protein...and I can carry it around with me. brands.kraftfoods.com/bagelfu

I start weekday morning with:
3/4 c Honey Nut Cheerios
1/2 medium banana
1/2 c blue berries
1 cup of 1% milk
and on occasion 2 egg whites

On the weekends I have hot oatmeal, toast and a piece of fruit or egg whites, bacon and fruit.

I usually do peanut butter or cottage cheese on wheat toast. If I have a minute, I'll cut up cucumbers and tomatoes and mix them in the cottage cheese--mmm.

The breakfast shakes are a great idea, too. You can def. take those to go in the car! I have a variety of frozen fruits that I'll mix the night before and leave in the mixing container in the fridge. Then the next morning I'll toss in some water and some spinach. If I don't have any banana, I'll put some yogurt in too. Smoothies are great because you can put in whatever it is YOU like...but you can also throw in some stuff you don't like but know you should eat and you won't taste it.

Have you tried those Arnold Slims wheat bread sandwich things yet? They're actually really good for only being 100 calories.

I'm not sure if you like prepared foods or not, but the Jimmy Dean D-Lights are my go-to breakfast food! Really easy and really yummy!

Also, Smart Ones makes really good breakfast quesadillas as well as sandwiches.

Toast or whole grain waffle with peanut butter is AWESOME!
Check out the recipe for Veggie Quiche cups... you can freeze them and pop in the microwave as you're getting ready... super easy to take with you.
Also for good car food, try a protein smoothie. There are tons of recipes out there. Two of my favorites:
1. Banana, cup of skim milk, chocolate protein powder, and a couple of coffee ice cubes (freeze your extra coffee in an ice tray)
2. 1 cup frozen berries (buy them that way, or you can freeze your own), 1 cup skim milk, 1 cup chocolate protein powder.
(p.s. I totally love chocolate, and this helps me keep my cravings under control!)

Also, don't discount string cheese! The protein is awesome, but make sure you're getting the made with part skim kind.

Hope that helps! Good luck!

My favorite is fat free Greek yogurt with sliced strawberries and a sprinkle of low fat granola.

What are some good "breakfast to go" foods? Most of the time I have to eat breakfast in the car but I am trying to eat better food at the same time. I'm trying to avoid the classic bagel because thats a lot of carbs/calories early in the morning.
I was doing an apple and a cheese stick, but it turns out the cheese stick is a lot of empty calories (extra fats, sugars, etc).
Any idea for good breakfast foods that I can eat on the way to work?
