Not to sound overly critical, but cellulite is hardly a woman's worst nightmare. There a LOT worse problems to have or encounter in your life. I think we should just sort of leave this thread alone, because it sends a wrong idea about the worth of a woman, solely on appearances sake. Ladies, you are more than your body! So please don't post on this thread.

Please read the first page, and then click the 'Diagnosis & Treatment' tab to learn more, it has two pages. Alright, and you can see that cellulite is really only fat. The article says that it can't be completely removed. However, any doctor treating a severely anorexic woman or man knows that is not the case. You can literally waste away into skin and bones. That's actually one of the reasons I'm trying to steer you away from worrying about cellulite! It can get dangerous, trying to sculpt your body into an image of perfection. Just be you!

One thing that's hardly ever mentioned in the media today is that you need to watch what type of soap you use to clean yourself. If you use tallow in your soap, well, that's animal fat, and your skin absorbs that while you bathe or shower. So keep that in mind. You want to leave behind the animal fat. Don't eat it, and don't use it in the shower or bath.

Another thing you can do is just use some lotion or oil daily. The process of rubbing it into your skin creates some heat, which burns some of the fat which is next to the skin. This is very useful! Try it! But avoid products that contain animal fat, because that's like using it in the soap. Your skin can't help but absorb things like that.

Having cellulite and some dry patches on my thighs are the worst! I can't even wear shorts because of them. I ordered Dermalmd cellulite serum just to try out and I LOVE IT! My dry patches are gone and it's starting to work on my cellulite as well and here's the catch: it's affordable!

I got rid of my cellulite! I had it for years!
But you're not going to like the solution... because it's very hard to get used to at first, but worth it...
I gave up coffee, totally, and regular tea and I hardly ever drink alcohol. I don't eat processed microwave meals. I do eat some sweets, chocolate and biscuits though but not too many. But it's gone- The cellulite is gone! So there's no way I'm going back. And it's definitely the caffeine, cause a while ago I slipped up and had a week of coffees (mmm was good), but NEVER again- the dimples came back so it motivated me straight away to stop drinking coffee to the point where when someone offers me a coffee now I just think it's disgusting- and I visualise drinking a cup of liposuction fat! (Urgh! Gross!)
My alternatives are Pu-erh tea (Posh Spice's tea- I think there is a small amount of caffeine in it) and I drink green tea (flavours include citrus) which is a DETOX tea.
Detoxing will help, as it will help unclog you.
I drink about 4 Pu-erh teas a day and 1 green tea.
BUT- it still surfaces slightly at time of month- but NOTHING like it used to be.

Always growing stronger

I love how you put that, I think it's important not to walk around like your hiding yourself, I hope this summer I'll rock my swimsuit cellulite or not.

Listen, if there was really a miracle way to get rid of it, we all wouldn't still be wondering what to do about it.

Exercise can help, building up muscle and burning fat.

I have also heard that daily massaging of the area can stimulate it's removal, such as applying lotion and dry skin brushing.

I remember years ago when I didn't have cellulite... And now, Im 25 (and nearly the same weight as you) with an annoying case of it on my bum and thighs!

My personal trainer told me you can never get rid of it. Plus when I was working out before my wedding it got worse, he told me that I was building muscle and it pushes the cellulite out until you burn the fat. Cellulite is the devil, but I heard something about rubbing coffee grounds on yourself...not sure about it though

In one of our (medical school) lectures, they talked about cellulite being some sort of metaplasia of collagen from one type to another, and that it is definitely irreversible. Wikipedia tells me that estrogen is thought to play a role. But who knows, because estrogen and body fat are correlated.

From my personal experience, I have found that my cellulite is minimized when I lose weight. I was 130 in HS and had cellulite, and 105 in college and it was essentially invisible at that weight. But that is a lot of weight loss, and it took pretty extreme measures. Now I'm 115-120, and I have some, but not much.

As for cellulite being a woman's worst nightmare, I was in San Francisco on the beach last summer, and girls there may have cellulite or stretch marks, and their bodies aren't perfect, but they rock it. And I think in the end, confidence is all you need to look hot.

There's nothing wrong with cellulite. The only reason we think that we're not supposed to have it is because of all the airbrushed models and actresses that we see. Just live a healthy life. If you're really self-conscious about it, wear a wrap around your waist when you go to the beach.

Be happy with yourself instead of freaking out about something that is natural!

this image explains i best:
http://beverlyhillslaserinstitute.com/ce
llulite-bands.jpg

Eventually this connective tissue contracts and hardens (sclerosis) holding the skin at a non-flexible length, while the surrounding tissue continues to expand with weight or water gain. This results in areas of the skin being held down while other sections bulge outward, resulting in the lumpy, 'cottage-cheese' appearance.

I just starting using it again. I usually wait until closer to spring, but I am getting married this weekend and thought I might want to do a little work now. So, I got refocused on working out and eating right. Plus, those minimizing creams help motivate me with my fitness and nutrition efforts. When I feel like my cellulite is getting better it makes me want to try even harder with my aerobics and strength training.

Mary Kay has one too that my mom used and she saw great results in about 4 weeks. And it wasn't that horribly expensive, hmmmm now you got me thinking about trying that again!

I have never tried the heating pad before, but I own one so I definitely will now. Agreed, I have found no magic cure to get rid of it. However, there is an Avon cream that minimizes it while you are using it and for a short time afterwards. There is also a more expensive treatment by Arbonne that I like. It's a scrub to use in the shower and then a cream. It's expensive though. I only tried it b/c I sale Arbonne and got it free. I have gotten it again since though. I only use it when I am getting ready for that dreaded swimsuit season and throughout. It's seems to make it look smoother and almost give a shapely look to that part of the body. I acutally own both Avon and Arbonne products. I use Arbonne when I think about it in the shower and Avon when I forget to start with the shower scrub.

I also am a cellulite victim. I tried exercising and it did minimize it but it came right back quicker than I could get rid of it. I despise cellulite and I hope someone invents or comes up with a real remedy sometime soon before I'm too old and wrinkly to look good in a bathing suit lol. emoticon

I have red research after research on cellulite and they all come to the same conclusion, which is that there is no way to get rid of it. You can make it appear less, but it is only temporarily. I've had it since high school and it is a real pain.
If you use those cellulite creams religiously it will help make it appear less, but it will come back. You can reduce it by losing weight if you need to or firming up the areas of interest.
There are a few clinical treatments, but in many cases it was only temporary solution as well.
It just keeps coming back:-(.

Uggh. Don't even get me started on cellulite -I even have cellulite on the front of my legs WTF?!-. I started noticing it a couple of years ago in high school. I used to be so down on myself about having it. But after seeing that in fact the majority of women have it, I have come to accept it (although I would rather not have it. I realize it would be nearly impossible to get rid of it. Now resorting to trying to love the legs

well here are some things that i used to do when i DIDN'T have it:

1. drink 9-11 cups of water every day
2. stretch everything every night
3. do lunges every other day

try those things. they all seem to make sense as far as circulation is concerned. now, here is what i'm doing atm. (and this is what im doing now since i started getting lazier w/ stretching, stopped lunges, drinking a lot etc. cuz it was after that that i got the cellulite)

1. staying AWAY from fake sugars. god knows whether those things really come in AND out of your body
2. drinking at least 6 cups, but i should up it
3. sitting on my heating pad- cheap heat therapy lol
4. lunges at least twice a week
5. trying to lose a little fat and gain a little muscle
6. specific cellulite massages
7. cellulite cream several times a week

i THINK it's decreasing, but, as you can see, i haven't isolated any of these things, so i don't know for sure what works, or if it is a combination. i'll make another post if i can REALLY see the difference.

p.s. if you want a one day, quick fix, do this (altho ive never tried it, but sum1 swore by this one): make coffe, and then take the coffee grounds and seran wrap the grounds around your butt. leave for 15 min, then take off. should be all gone, but only for like a day or so. then it all comes back....AND it sounds messy. but hey, if u want to try this for bikini season, then by all means! =)

I am SO glad you posted this! I want to know too!

I've been working on my glutes "area" by doing different kinds of squats and lunges - i'm getting a more shapely rear - but the cellulite is starting to show more....or maybe i'm just looking in the mirror more. Point is that it is more than my roommate and a few friends have. I'm not looking forward to swimsuit season.

I've heard there are topical creams (Mary Kay just came out with one) that get in there and help break down those fat cell walls...it seems WAY too good to be true, but someone I know said it works (still not convinced)

Has anyone gotten rid of/minimized their cellulite?

so this is for anyone struggling to reduce their cellulite, and/or have combated it successfully. but before anyone leaves comments, here are some myths to clear up:

1. cellulite is simply fat. lose weight, and it goes away. WRONG; what makes cellulite special =) is that it is fat that has clumped up and/or collapsed in on itself due to poor circulation in that area, creating a bumpy effect. many thin and fit women have cellulite.
2. if you are a healthy woman, you have cellulite. you need it. WRONG; yes, women need fat (or everyone needs fat) to be healthy, but cellulite is poorly circulated fat, which, in a sense, is unhealthy. however, 80 percent of women have it. but if you think about it, it's fairly difficult to get circulation around the thigh/glute areas because, well, it's big!
3. you can get rid of cellulite through liposuction. WRONG; liposuction doesn't evenly get rid of fat cells, which can actually worsen the appearance of cellulite. want proof? look at the 'before' and 'after' photos of the booties of the women who have had it done.
4. just turn it into muscle! WRONG; everyone has a certain amount of body fat. in a sense, yes, those who have less fat on their bodies are less likely to have cellulite, however, it is virtually impossible to get rid of 100 percent of it. and i can tell you personally, doing plenty of lunges and squats (AND being very thin), it does not necessarily get rid of cellulite. it can, however, reduce it to some extent.

well, anyone ready to give advice to this dreaded curse?!

Theresa R.
