It has gone down to single digits now. The last few days we have been in the roaring 20's during the day and down to 3 degrees during the night. I couldn't get out of the house for two days due to snow and ice. Keep warm my friend. My wood stove is going too.

Harriet, I hear you! I'm wearing long johns or tights and lots of wool sweaters.
There are 2 quilts on the bed, and our wood stove is going constantly.
I like to keep the house in the '60s to low 70's even with the extra clothes I wear.

I am freezing. No matter what I'm wearing it doesn't seem enough. I tend to wonder about what winter will be like. We had a near blizzard of snow and some during the night. UGH!

I put on layers of clothing on when going out each day. I also put a few logs in the stove to help warm up the house in the evening.

Deep breathing and mindfulness always help me too! I try to make some plans in preparation for the changes when I see them coming.

I try not to get too anxious over things that I have no control over or I think calmly over things that I do have a say in. A couple of deep breaths also helps me get over the difficult times.

How do you deal with upcoming changes in your schedule?
Going back to school has knocked me out of my good exercise/food routine.

Tomorrow I will be eating with my senior group. Usually we have a lunch catered in and I know what we are having. This is a new place for me once again. I understand that they had a rather large salad bar. I plan on filling my plate with lots of veggies.

In the past I've generally failed big time especially if it involved Italian foods but now I try not to go out to restaurants but the big test will be next Sunday I'm planning a birthday dinner for my sis in law I hope I"ll do well enough to come back and report something positive

I'm making it one day at a time

Sounds like you have a wonderful helpful family. Paul has one daughter who comes to visit him once a week at the home. My children live in different state and come to visit when they are able to. It was very difficult to get help while he was at home. I'm just happy that he gets all the help that he needs by sweet, lovable and caring people.

My Mom is also a handful. In our case, there are many hands to care for her. She lives with Randall, and John comes in from 6 am to 3 pm M-f. Manda helps from 3-5. I am the Saturday girl. John takes Mom to church on Sundays.
John gets breaks on M-F. We have a "paid friend who is there on T & Th for crafts for 2 hours plus a home health aide for 2 hours a day m-f.

Hi Jackie, I'm so happy that he is where he living because it's tops in this county. I have trouble enough with food that I rather bring my own which is measured and the whole nine yards. Paul is 91 and is a handful. He became too much for me to handle. Thank you for the compliment. Hope your Mom is okay.

Harriet, you are a very smart woman! You can never be sure what you'll get at a nursing home for food. Here in the US, nursing home food is not top quality. My Mom has been in nursing homes for about a month each year for the past 10 years. She's 96.

My DH is in a nursing home and I eat lunch with him every day. I bring my own lunch so that I know exactly what I'm eating. I don't like taking "pot luck".

CIROHIO and HARRIET, thanks for your great ideas. I seem to eat foods that I wouldn't eat at home when out. Sometimes they are not the healthy kind.

I went out to lunch with some old friends and we went to their favorite restaurant that I never was there before. I looked over the menu and found an interesting salad and ordered it. When it arrived I was amazed at how enormous it was. I ate half and took the rest home for lunch the next day. No wonder they like going there.

I try to find out what restaurant we will be going to. Then I get online search the menu and plan from there. Usually works out that way for me. If we don't know where we are going then I look over the menu, most have a healthy section with nutrition info.listed.

thanks Harriet!
I am also a salad eater, or I order something without breading.
Roasted veggies is also a favorite.
Brunch and eggs are always a good choice.

I look the menu over and I order either a dinner salad with the dressing on the side and sugar free ice tea. If it's brunch I oder an egg omelet with whole wheat bread plain and coffee.
