I was never a smoker so I don't have a quitting date to share but I just want to tell the world how glad and happy I am that there are lot of fellow Sparkers who chose to quit this bad habit and start a healthier lifestyle. You are an inspiration to others! For sure, a lot more will follow in quitting this cigarette smoking addiction.

I have been smoke free since 12/27/12, 6 days.

okay, I am new here, I want to quit smoking, I need to quit smoking... I have been thinking about it for a long time. I have been vigorously working out since Jan. After two broken bones and now two newly found squamous cell lesions... I need to set the day when I will never smoke another cigarette again. Knowing the research about quitting smoking, I know that I can either go cold turkey and not have any smoking stuff around the house (which would probably be best for me) or to go down gradually. I don't want to use nicotine aids, I will use sugar free candy, water and exercise to aid me. I will not reward myself for accomplishing something that I should have done a long time ago. I have gone long lengths of time without cigarettes when I have been in the hospital or been in a smoke free environment. SO I know I can get through the short term.
15 days to break a habit; 30 days for nicotine to leave the blood stream.

setting the date... I will have to avoid extra stress, avoid guilty feelings, and avoid my friends who are smokers, at least for a few weeks... until I have totally wrapped my mind and heart around this goal. SO....
as of July 17th, I will no longer have any cigarettes, smoking stuff in my house, and have all the linens and walls washed, to decrease the smell of cigarette in my house. So, as of today... I will no longer smoke in the house as I work on preparing for the July 17th date.
That is my pledge and my goal!!!

be authentically you...
it's journey, not a one day hike.

Thanks Luxitta! I was at my Bo's house for the first three days and he and his mother smoke INSIDE! But if anything, it made my resolve stronger! I feel great! Day 6 on the patch! Woot! How are you making out?!

That's tomorrow, Good luck!!! Just try to tough it out for at least 3 days and the rest will come easier. Drink Chamomile tea to calm the nerves and have gum for when you leave the house! These are items that helped me :)

My quitting date is the day I finally get my house put on the market - hopefully June 17. If not then, it will be June 30 because I cannot put it off any longer. I'm going cold turkey because I'm not even a 1/2 pack a day smoker and I know I can do it.

I'm taking a class this weekend, and talked to a couple of folks who have quit and they were cheering me on yesterday. They're so jealous that I have Spark to support me, and wished they had found something like this when they quit.

try not to think of what u are giving up. try to think of it as gaining 13 minutes for every one cigarette you do not smoke right now. just do right now and try not to think too far ahead. Yes, you can!

Remember to be kind to yourself. You deserve to be known as that girl who USED to smoke. It is one second, one minute, one hour, one day at a time. Your goal for right now is to put as much distance between you and a smoke as you can. Replace cigarettes with your favorite fruit. Try sweet things because smoking actually messes with the sugar levels in your blood. Fruit juices are best because it will help you fight the cravings and bring your sugar levels in your system back to normal. If you cannot buy a bunch of it, get what you can and sip really slowly, thinking that your life is getting sweeter by the minute since you don't smoke anymore. Hope this helps, and keep quitting!

I quit 3/31/2009. It has been 45 days since my last cigarette. I have less pain when I sneeze and cough. I can laugh longer and louder which I love to do the most. I run out of air way less when I talk. I no longer deal with BO. Thank you for your support! I loved reading your post.

Whether it is on your Blackberry, calendar, or on your computer, your quit date is something that will not only motivate you to quit, it is something you can share with others here. We can help you by celebrating wherever we are. Online, we can huddle with you, telling you to go for it! We can do things like get a massage, facial, pedicure to help you celebrate your quit date. You matter to all of us, and we want to be there for you! Before your quit date, I would stock up on your favorite fruit juice. It has to be the one that makes you do that little dance because it is just so good on your tongue. It will be the one thing that will save you when you think the Camel's is calling to you. Keep some in your favorite water bottle and coffee cup while you have dinner. Hope these tips help and we look forward to celebrating your quit day. I love a good pedicure myself.
