oh. Well I guess I feel better (but kinda silly) then if I am not supposed to be able to run without training to do so first. I will try working up to it for a while and see if I improve over a months time.

Don't look back, you're not going that way.

If you look through articles about training for races, they give you a great training program for running. You usually start out running for 1 minute, walking for 4, and repeat this 4X or so. Then, you run 2 minute, walk 3 minutes, repeat 4X. Eventually, you are running for 20 minutes straight and you've worked your way up to it! I think it's a great idea!!

It takes time, patience and persistence to build up endurance for running. I started out as a walker and slowly but surely built up my running time which is still on the slow side. It is my goal to become a full-fledge runner going at a pretty good clip.

When I would go for my walk I would start a slow run and it would last for about a minute. I can now run for about 10 minutes without stopping. You can do it!

I tried jogging the other day, and I think I made it about the length of one block. (one side of a block)Hmm...how do people jog/run? I used to smoke 2 packs a day..for about 13 years until 2 years ago. So maybe I killed my lungs too much? Will I ever be able to jog like the people I see on the roads going without slowing until out of sight? Can I build up endurance? Or am I doomed to only be able to jog a short distance?

Don't look back, you're not going that way.

I live in Coyne Center (small town south of Milan) and my grandma lives exactly 2 miles away from me. I have started running to her house...I get a good distance in and a couple decent inclines!!

I first replied to this thread in February but I can update it. Now that i have ventured out in our area, I have found so many nooks and crannies to walk/run. I need to venture out in other areas like the riverfront to shake it up.

I live across from VanderVeer and right by Duck Creek bike path...those are definitely two of my favorites. But as a Viking Alumni I'm gonna have to say that walking around Augie's campus in the summer is the best :-)

I like to walk the bike path in Moline. This year was my first time at doing 10K steps... lol I was so excited. lol then sore.

Initial Goals:
1. Get back into my previous weight loss jeans.

2. Meet my fiber requirements 5 days a week.

Now that I am finally exercising for the first time in 23 years I have decided to set these weekly exercise goals.

1. Walk or go to the gym 3 - 4 days a week.
2. Strength training 2 - 3 times a week

My husband and I have also started walking along the river, usually between Marquette St and the Skybridge.

I like to walk around Vander Veer, but I have such terrible allergies, I usually opt for walking around the track at the Downtown or Bettendorf Y's instead!

Restarting my journey after baby #2 :)

I like to walk from.. a park that is along the river near Hampton IL i believe.. and the path goes thru residence, by the river, by the road, camper park, fishing area, and a bridge right before a highway. MY husband and I used to walk it every night, 3hr walk and it was fabulous- hopefully i can get him to exercise again. If not then i'm looking for a partner lol...

Well, I finally gave up waiting for a nice day to walk outside, so I have taken up Billy Blanks Bootcamp DVD's. Ouch! I actually had a cramp in my abs last evening from all the situps. LOL I normally do pilates and stepping, but this workout really pushed those ab muscles to the max. I decided since I turn 55 next month that now is the time to start Bootcamp. My daughter paused and said, "Well, that's one way of looking at it!".

I love to walk along Hennipen Canal.
It is so peaceful. If the kids come along there is so much to learn about nature.
I hate to walk around town. It's just to boring.

I love to walk downtown and on the bike path on riverfront here in Clinton. I it is just over a mile from my house to riverfront, then the bike path is a mile one way so a full round-trip is 4 miles. On Mondays I take my daughter to swim class on the walk back home.

I walk around my neighborhood. Right down the street is this long, steep hill that is perfect for getting your heart rate up and work your legs and butt! I have never walked down that hill, always up it.

I just like to walk the neighborhood. I have a small home daycare, so it is nice to get the double stroller out and take the kids for a spin before naptime...they wind down and I get a work out in!

I run around my block. One time around is exactly 1 mile. That's nice because I always know how far I've run. I am trying to do three times around because I want to run in the Railroad Days race in June. It's a night race, so I am excited. I don't do well in the heat!

My favorite place to walk is the Butterworth Parkway, but in a hurry, I live right below a hill which makes a great workout. It's not too steep, but for half a mile is a steady uphill climb. I find it works wonders on the legs and buttocks. In fact, I tone quickly every spring with this simple and quick 20 minute walk. Other than that, I work out on my elliptical which always gets my heart rate up and gives me a good workout.

Hey all!

Where are some great places to walk (or run for you more ambitious people!)in the QCs? I love to walk in the fairgrounds- my husband and I just bought our very first home.. just a block from the Mississippi Valley Fair Grounds! Its so convenient, but even when we didn't live there I'd love to drive there because my dog loves it! The big open field in the back is great to play fetch. All the roads make for an interesting walk. I'd love to track the miles with my car-- but I haven't gotten there yet!

Do you have any great walking places to share?? :)
