Slipping in late....

Anywhere at the coast/beach/ocean/lake is my best vacation ever. I am at peace when I am near the water.

Pixie, what a wonderful way to reaffirm your family in a new way. emoticon

Pixie that is a wonderful story.

Our best vacation is when we went to Disneyland in 2011. Seeing the smiles on my kids faces made the whole vacation. Those are memories I will always cherish.

Pixie, that's a touching story.
I wish we could do something like that this year, for my grandma's sake.

In 1994, my first husband was killed by a drunk driver. I had two little boys, just 8 and 9 years old, to raise on my own. When the holiday season rolled around a few months later, we were still grieving and in no mood to celebrate anything. A family member suggested that we NOT try to have a normal Christmas. She said we should do something completely different. I thought it over, and decided that we'd take a vacation to Orlando, Florida. It was strange to spend Christmas day in a hotel, but it actually made things better. I think my boys would have been so sad if we'd been at home, trying to act like it was a normal Christmas. We had such a good time that week, though. We went to Sea World, MarineLand, GatorLand, Silver Springs, Ripley's Believe It Or Not, and all the mini golf places we could find. That was not only our best vacation but also our best Christmas because it felt like we started to finally be a family again.

Sounds great, Chritine!

We used to love to go with my parents down to the TX coast and either stay in their motor home or get a room near the beach. My DH never would go, but my two DS and I have many fond memories of vacationing with my parents.

I love spending time at Three Island State Park in Idaho! We take our little Jayco camp trailer and camp. There is a grassy area with picnic tables that sits on the river. We set up our birding equipment and little kiddies always want to look through our scopes at the birds. We also have picnic lunches and treats! Very relaxing and never think about any work left at home! :)
