Let's start a thread reminding each other to make sure we are covering some basic things.

In my earlier home-schooling days, I remember reading a home-schooling magazine. A mother had written in and explained what happened when she pulled her two daughters (7th and 9th grade, I believe) out of the public school.
(her reasons were because of negative behavior issues that cropped up, that had never been there before.)
She questioned her girls on what they knew, so she could determine what to teach next. She discovered that EVEN THOUGH HER CHILDREN WERE GIVEN A'S at school, they could not even tell her what a NOUN or a VERB was!

In my house, we are not highly academic. We are more of the vocational type people. So there are many things I probably do not cover that other 'college focused' families do.

As a Christian, my first priority is Bible basics. And I can write a separate Comment for what I think every Christian should know.
But first, I would like to work together and bring up what we each think are THE BASIC things that every student needs to survive in the adult world. (I'm not talking what they need in the COLLEGE world. Those are two different things, in my opinion.)

I think that from HERE, I will begin some BASIC threads for each topic, and then we can share our ideas and help each other fill in any gaps we might have.

To me, the areas of FIRST importance are:
1. Self-control, Responsibility, Obedience and things that go along with that. Because it's hard to teach a rebel; frustrating to teach a slob, and it wastes our time to try teaching a lazy just don't get anywhere for all your effort.

2. Bible (for Chrisitans)

3. If you are from the United States, then THIS should be VERY important. Too many people are graduating from colleges with a flawed idea of how our government and our freedoms work. If we are CITIZENS, then we should be able to pass a basic Citizenship test that is required by people immigrating, right?

So keep an eye out for BASICS threads!
Have a great school year!

And we all lived happily ever after...

It's Worth Living.
It's Worth Giving.
Choose Life.

Build up the Culture of Life!
We can change hearts, by bringing up the next generation to embrace Life at an early age.
If only moral people are willing to do that, mass abortion will end.
