Our library is really great, but I'm sure I'll have to buy some of them. I'm having hubby put a monthly budget in for Homeschool stuff. He put $100, but wants to not roll it over, so no saving money from one month to another, what I don't use goes into the savings. I'm trying to convince him not to do that because I do want to do more some months, like buy the composting system instead of making it, for the worms experiment in Botany.

Thank you for your reply, I was wary of the history, but anything is better than the book I have now. basically it was a waste of money, my kids would have liked it when they were 6, but now it is too dumbed down for them. I'll give it to the kids to read whenever they want to. Oldest will probably read it front to back, youngest probably won't. Oldest loves to read anything, youngest prefers mysteries and smaller books.

I'm really excited for the botany, and the history, I love that they are free or super cheap. I am worried about keeping up and tweaking the schedule, but I'm sure we will work it out just fine.

I've used their American History and really enjoyed it. I would say that depending on your library system you may need to get some of the books yourself.

I'll have to look that one up
I'm loving that this one is free, well, it's $20, but you just have small expenses along the way and do a lot of small experiments along with what you are reading about. It seems like a lot of fun, and those are optional, like making chocolate while your learning about the history of chocolate. Sounds pretty cool.

The botany that I'm looking at is middle to high school, the history that I'm looking at is 3rd-6th grade, so right at my kids age. I'm a little nervous about the keeping up with week to week and going to the library so much, but I think it could be fun, I want to get more involved with our library anyway, I just don't want something that is going to overwhelm me. I bought a book that was supposed to be for my 4th grader (it's packed can't remember the name of it) and it's way below her level. I need something right on target for my 6th grader, she's right on level but reads at a college level. But my 4th grader needs to be challenged, which is good for me as I will be able to probably teach them basically the same thing. I need cheap or free (free and cheap at Guest Hollow) because we are on such a severely strict budget right now I'll only be able to actually buy the really important one which is Math U See

I've never heard of this site or the curriculum. It looks good for younger kids, but perhaps I missed the older kids area? I'll have to go back and check it out.

Anybody familiar with Guesthollow.com? I am in love with their botany curriculum, and it is free. So I took a look at their American History, and it looks pretty good too. The botany is a lot of books and activities from making a compost to growing peanuts. Basically I'll be living at the library, lol. I really like what I see, it looks like a lot of fun, but wanted to see what you all thought. I have a 4th and 6th grader, my 4th grader will be doing the botany even though it is for 6th and up, she is above her grade in so many things I think this will challenge her.

Any opinions? Or if you want to check it out the link is www.guesthollow.com/homeschool/scien
