Awesome that your son spoke so clearly! Maybe he was just more comfortable? Practice may help.

I hope things go smoothly for the Celebration of Life.

I got three hours of sleep last night.... separately, lol.

Gonna have to stop school and concentrate on cleaning, decluttering and moving. We have a lot of junk to get rid of and a lot of things we no longer use to donate.

Well, funny you should say, 'breathe'.
I just got my email from Office Max with their first draft of 'funeral card' (IS there a better word for that?)
I see some things that need changed, so I'm working on that right now. Checking emails while waiting for Hubby to come home and share opinions with me.
Off I go!
(Yes, I did sit on patio, but I was also babysitting so...eh. lol

Also, read a World War 2 Battle book with my 14 yr old son.

And guess what? He read a book to the young ones we babysit, The Poky Little Puppy, and he read 99% perfectly clear. lol Funny, after just talking about that.)

And we all lived happily ever after...

Hope you got a chance to sit on the patio. That is hard, we set up pictures and did a photo board and slideshow for my sister's memorial and I remember that being the hardest thing to do, looking through all those pictures when we had just lost her. It was also wonderful, remembering all the good times with her. Her oldest son took it the hardest and would not look at the pictures, though he did the day of the memorial and listened to memories of her. It's hard doing all the frenzy of planning that goes into a memorial or celebration of life.

You sound very, very busy, I hope you get a chance to just breathe through all of this! emoticon

My day consists of re-doing my dad's fishing and hunting photo-album so his buddies have something to look at during the Celebration of Life (C.o.L.) party, waiting for the 'funeral card' to be designed and sent to me for approval, and typing up my children's memories of my MOM for my niece who is making a Shutterfly Album in honor of 'Gramma and Grampa'.

And babysitting for about 8 hrs.

The suns out right now... I may sit on the patio while I have a chance.

And we all lived happily ever after...

We are in packing mode, so other than youngest DD's assessment, no more school other than reading for the rest of the summer. This whole buying a house and moving thing is stressful and going to take a while! Right now it looks like we will be moving on DD birthday, she's a bit upset about that.

I'm sorry you won't be able to have as fun a summer with everything that is going on. Sounds like you do have a lot planned and that should keep them busy and happy!!

I'm so tired, I've not been sleeping but a few hours a night, if that much, yesterday I was worthless I was so tired I could not get anything done. Today is pretty much the same only I have appointments and errands to get done so I have to go whether I have the energy or not!!

We are taking a break this summer. We are really wiped out from two deaths in the family and all the care-giving that came with it before that.

We hope to do a lot of fun activities this year. We've had a bad ten years and haven't gotten to do anything fun with the kids like we always wanted to do. So this is supposed to be the 'fun' summer. We didn't know Dad was going to die. Or that I needed hernia surgery. lol

I will keep playing card and dice games and math games.
We will do a lot of reading with the younger ones at least, so I can get ahead for the next year and have lots to write down for assessments.
Probably get into some NATURE study, too.
Plus gardening with Dad.

And we all lived happily ever after...

That looks really cool, thank you!

What do you normally teach during the Summer? Or do you, I can't remember (sorry) I'm keeping it to the basics, reading, writing and arithmetic with some penmanship and the occasional art and science experiment thrown in. I don't want them to get bored, nor do I want them to forget everything over the summer. I don't want them watching TV all day either. The pool is closed, some kid threw up in it and they are getting it cleaned and apparently the Health Department is involved. Plus one of the car's has bald tires and we don't have enough $ to change them just yet, so DH is using my car till we can get tires put on his car.

Let me know if that link worked.

You can actually buy new versions but I don't like the quality. If you get a chance to buy one, get an older used one.
The news are made to fold up and store. I hate it. BUT, instead of taking it apart, we decided to HANG IT UP on the wall of the room we call our RECREATION room. It looks cool there. :) We get it down when we wanna play. But mostly we play the original when we go over to my Dad's house for parties.

What a sweet memory!

I know all those games except paddle pool, could not find it when I looked it up on Amazon. What is it?

We have four main family board games that we play again and again at get-togethers:
Scrabble.
Paddle Pool
Pictionary
Blokus

As I was looking through pictures last night at Dad's house, I came across a photo of my sister, my uncle, and myself on the living room floor playing Paddle Pool.
My adult (and silly) uncle was lying on his belly facing his opposite competitor, our dog, Patches. My sis and I were of grade school age.

I'm going to have to enlarge that 70's photo and hang it for the family.

And we all lived happily ever after...

My daughter (13) was showing me Blokus in the store just this week. Now I regret now buying it on the spot! Well not really because I finally had money for a bathroom scale. Maybe I will purchase the game when my son visits around July 4th. He has always enjoyed a good game.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. My condolences.

We'll definitely buy another Blokus, but this time I'm going to make sure they put everything up when they are done! And keep baggies for all of the pieces. emoticon

Why, thank you! I made that last idea up in a matter of seconds. lol

GO. BUY. ANOTHER. BLOKUS!!!!!!! HURRRY!

(We've been playing it every day since Wednesday. My dad just passed away on Thursday, and we just bring the game up to the hospital to have something to do to pass the
'waiting' hours by. Very comforting to us.)

We have a big family with cousins of every age, so boredom always has a back up for us.
How about bikes, wading pools, water fights, gardens of their own, board games outside under a shade tree. If you haven't played Blokus yet, you totally need to purchase it. HOURS of fun, and that's without even reading the directions! lol
This is our Family Game. That and Scrabble. (which would be great for keeping up spelling practice over the summer).

How about making up a game? Especially for rainy days. Get a map, roll the dice, move a pawn, and look up the PLACE on the internet and see what you can learn.

And we all lived happily ever after...

Do you homeschool year round or do you take a break for summer?

What do you do to keep your kids preoccupied during summer? We usually go to the pool everyday but it has been closed until further notice, which is going to be a while. I don't want them constantly playing video games or watching TV... What are some fun things you can do cheap that will occupy them? Been thinking of going to the park but at the moment we are saving for moving and I can't afford the gas to go every day.

Any suggestions?
