What a nice comparison of changing rhythms in life to music. That makes good sense!

And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. Col. 3:23

Like music, rhythms change, this is all part of God's will for your days. And you are living it, changing as He changes, planning, and yet giving Him your plans when He intervenes, and then picking them back up again. You are being a wonderful friend. What a godly example for your children.

And yes, on the expecting less perfection as you seek His will for His kids. His plan will be awesome as you see it unfold, more than you can think or imagine. Just keep your eyes on Him, especially during these sad times. He will be your help (ps 121). Blessings.

I really like the idea of coming to God and asking him what he wants us to do with the children he's given us. I'm just learning about this. It takes the stress out of the children's mistakes and makes it easier to see the mess-ups as a blessing so that I can "train and teach," instead of just being so worried and angry that they aren't perfect children yet. This is a whole new perspective this last year for me, and I really like it much better than the DIY, as you call it!

I had a rhythm going for our first week. Our rhythm came to a stop when we learned early this week that one of my best friends had lost her twin boys right at 34 weeks of pregnancy. We traveled last week to be with her, hold the babies in the hospital, love on the family. We travel back down this coming week for the funeral. SO thankful for the flexibility of homeschooling!!

Yes, it's so true we need to find a quick and easy way to organize our place, because we all know we don't feel happy unless our space is clean and ready for the new day. Peaceful...

Besides that two things helped me set the rhythm over the years; one was a homeschooling prayer partner that I met/meet with for the last 20 years. (It's awesome) The other was a devotion I read years ago, but it is timeless. It was called 'God gives each of us 24 hours in a day'. And then my friend Susan broke down the 24 hours into the priorities that God has given us. Our relationship with the Lord, with our husband, with our children, caring for our home, our church, family and friends. Then another devotional; organizing your homeschool talked about taking a couple of days or even a few hours to sit before the Lord (this is not the time to be a Martha and say I'm too busy and shut the Lord out) but to ASK Him what His plans are for your family for the coming year. Spend some time in the Proverbs too so you can 'hear His voice' about parenting His children to become wise. After committing yourself afresh to Him, committing each child to Him, and seeking His wisdom on what He wants for your family, then you write down the areas you need to work on. For the youngers we did chore charts, play charts, school charts (as simple or complex as you want), for the olders academic and character goals along with their chore lists. When you have your marching orders - you can go forth with confidence, calm, and purpose to this high and holy calling God has entrusted to us. Then you breath life into your family because God has filled your cup. Or you can DIY and fall, and then come back and ask Him to pick up the pieces. Either way God's grace is there for you, because you are the apple of His eye. I for one, have done it both ways, and can tell you which I prefer emoticon or emoticon Blessings as we start the new year.

" And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful."

Finding my rhythm means getting back to the basics and routines for me. A huge routine that I do that I am really working on getting back into is FlyLady. She keeps cleaning simple, manageable, and you can jump right in where you are. It works for this busy homeschool family and this week I am focusing on finding my rhythm by getting back on the FlyLady bandwagon.

Have a Blessed day!

Ever have a great rhythm and lose it, and then try to find it again? Post in this thread to share hints about getting into a fantastic healthy "rhythm" with the factors of homeschooling, activities, housekeeping, and all the other responsibilities we have.
