It depends on their ages. If they are old enough, reading around is also great for reading practice.
I think since I personally read Proverbs multiple times in the year, it was what tended to come out in certain situations - like when one of my kids were dominating a conversation I could remind them, "In the multitude of words, there wanteth not sin." (things like that)
My dad encouraged me to read the Proverbs daily when I was in jr. high, and it was probably one of his best pieces of advice.

I like that idea about reading the Proverbs the most! So practical! Do y'all find "reading around" works well when you're reading the Bible with your kids, or do you read to them?

8Xmama - I also read the Proverbs daily. I just talked to my DIL yesterday as my youngest grandblessing turned 1 year old - and she mentioned that my DS (age 31) commented that he remembers Proverbs a lot growing up because it was the most often quoted book throughout our day.
It is nice to get a look at what impacted our kids from what we did.

Morning,

I am at the end of my homeschool journey also.

1. I have my quiet time 1st thing.
2. I have also discovered if I do not exercise 1st it may not happen.
3. Prepare breakfast for the children.
4. Pray with the children
5. Start the day.

No, this does not happen this way every day, but it is my goal.

Thanks for the link, I am looking at the blog and e-books now.

Blessings,
Ali

I am at the end of my homeschooling years, so my schedule now is different than when I was swimming in the sea of a super busy life.
I get up at 6am and drink 3 cups of water, then crawl back in my bed with pillows behind me and spend that first hour of the day with the Lord. In earlier years my DH would bring be a cup of coffee so the kids didn't see me and bombard me with what all they needed before I could spend time with the Lord.
My DH also gets breakfast on the table. Remember, I am married to a pastor, so we have more flexibility in our schedules than some.
Then we have breakfast and our family devotions. Then my DS starts school and DH and I pray together before he leaves for the office.
Two days a week my DS and I go with him and do a cleaning job before we return home to start school.
Three days a week, sometime during my day, when I see my DS doesn't have something that requires my attention, I head out the door for a run.
When I was homeschooling more children, I went for my run at 6:10 - or as soon as I could get up and dress and head out the door. I found if it didn't happen first, it wasn't going to happen. Then I would come home and spend time with the Lord.

In CHRIST I can!

Mornings are great when I:

1. Get breakfast early enough.
2. Have a bit of quiet time with God.
3. Start a load of laundry.
4. Smile at everyone and praise everyone the first couple times I see them.

I also am trying to develop a routine because:

1. I am just weaning my baby. I now have the energy to get up early with an alarm
2. If you're not homeschooling, well, then, you're, you know, not really homeschooling.
3. The day runs out before the list if I don't get a jump start on the routine in the morning.
4. I love doing chores in the house before we do school. It makes the house feel more peaceful. But if I don't start early, I feel anxious about school and tend to punt the chores out for later.
5. Getting up at a set (early) time is something I think kids know how to do once they hit middle school. IT'S TIME!!

SOOO. . . this is the first week of "no excuses" alarm setting. And this is the first day it wasn't too painful (for me). The kids still need to get to bed earlier. As soon as they are tired enough, I'm sure they'll start falling asleep earlier.

And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. Col. 3:23

Hi,

As I am getting restarted on health goals I am putting together a morning routine that I can stick with. Good days for me start with good mornings! The best mornings includes time with the Lord and exercise and planning. I was re-reading this little e-book on developing a morning routine for Christian moms. It is so encouraging that I wanted to share the link here. It is free.

I am just recreating my mornings after about a couple weeks of sleeping too late, crawling out of bed and starting school. How are your mornings?
