Our three year old (she'll be four in September) is the same way. So I wrote out a schedule for her - I started with 3 or 4 pages from writing readiness from the website. Then planned out the pages in the Kumon books that I have for her age group and the PreK book of everything I picked up at Sam's. I managed to schedule her stuff to do every day from now until the end of the regular school year! She likes it because she is "keeping up with the big girls". I like it because it enabled me to cover writing and reading readiness, shapes, numbers - and all that stuff. She'll really be ready for 1st grade by age 5 or 6 at this rate - although I don't usually start them until they are at least 6 going on 7.

As for reading itself - we read her everything under the sun, within reason hehehe. :) She has books that she has memorized and can recognize a lot of the words. I give her "church" words to trace during worship - words like Bible, God, Jesus, Word, Obey, Love, Grace, Faith, Adam, books of the Bible etc - so when we are looking through her Bible she recognizes these because she's already been "writing" them. Her sisters read to her quite a bit. One thing she loves - she likes the song "5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed" - well it just so happens they have a book for that now, so I bought her the book - she already knew what was in the story! She practically "reads" it to herself. Again, gives her word recognition.

I'm pretty laid back about it all - I give her the tools, they are always at hand, but I don't schedule time each day to specifically cover it. I let it come as she is naturally interested.

New school year is not here yet, but it will be soon. Give me your pre k ideas to include or busy my 4.5 yo dd.She already recognizes her alphabet and numerals 0-9. She has basic phonic awareness. I might do all about reading at the lowest level, or all about spelling level 1 with her. We have plenty of BOB books, but she seems to desire to be included in our daily school routine.

For those who have preschoolers or who have had preschoolers list your ideas here!
