My son is in 4th grade now. We always include PE type things and he is very active as it is so it is not hard to do. I am new to the group and did an intro on the daily topic page which was probably the wrong page. LOL!

Blessings,
Julie

Yes, we are definitely including healthy habits in our homeschool. We've talked about it with the kids quite a bit. Last summer our entire family chose to start taking karate together. When my mom became sick in the fall, I had to quit so that I could help care for her. After her passing, I struggled and gained quite a bit of weight. I planned to go back to karate after I was finished directing our spring Shakespeare play, but I felt "too fat" to do the intense workouts. I want to lose weight so I can rejoin my family.

We're currently reworking our family's diet. I've made a lot of healthy changes to my diet lately and I'm encouraging the kids to make those changes as well. My husband already has a pretty healthy diet. Since the kids are already good with exercising, we're going to focus a lot on healthy eating as part of our homeschool.

Not as many healthy habits here as there needs to be. I need to work on incorporating that into our homeschooling day.

For PE, our goal is to integrate activity into our daily lives. We walk, hike, swim, do workout videos, play at the park- whatever comes along. We aim for at least 3 one hour sessions a week.

I am teaching my daughter nutrition as she plans, shops for and cooks one meal a week. I use Sue Gregg's cookbooks and meal planning books plus a lot of other resources, including Sparkpeople.

My son has to do 30 minutes of physical activity 3 times per week. He has one of those Iron Gym things that goes onto a door frame. He does pulls up on it and makes them look ridiculously easy. I can barely hang from the thing, much less pull myself up. He does a ton of push ups and sit ups too and he's constantly jumping around and running in place. He's in really good shape and I've been buying healthy snacks for quite awhile. We've done a health course in the past as well. The only real junk food he gets to have is a small glass of root beer, maximum of once a day, when I buy it and I let him have his Cocoa Rice Krispies for breakfast.

Do you plan to include your healthy habits into your schooling? Such as family PE and learning healthier lunches, snacks etc into maybe health class! Have you thought about it or even tried it? Let's talk about it :)
