I'm excited to get out of the house and having walking adventures around town with the kids. It will be like health/PE. They always get excited and want to come with when I exercise, like going for walks/jogs, or doing workout videos. I hope to motivate them to exercise for health, not for being skinny and looking like a magazine cover. Good luck everyone!

A workout buddy is a great idea! I exercise in the morning before school. For healthy snacks, I'm trying to keep more fruit and nuts (pre-portioned) around.

I have a workout buddy now!
She and I are cousins who live 400+ miles apart and are 20 years apart in age, but we are motivating each other and keeping each other accountable and it's working great!

I'm keeping fruit and fresh veggies handy to help with that nasty afternoon slump I have after we get done schooling and just before starting supper. Plus I down a large glass of water to help me recover and get refocused and re-energized for that late afternoon crazy time when Dh comes home, getting supper, etc.

I hope some of these tips I've gleaned from others and articles here on SP will help someone else, too! Blessings, everyone!

Blessings,
Heidi

I am strongly consitering moving our home schooling area into the kitchen because it will cut down on the trips to get a snack and meals. My kids eat so many small meals and are so active but I agree sometimes I think their constant eating is kinda gross. I know they need to eat often because they play hard and never stay still long so I can see them burning it off but lol I thought it was funny other people commented on their kids eating so often I am not alone wow! I plan on getting alot more disaplined with my time because this year I will be teaching two boys and if I thought one was hard I am preparing myself for two. I want to exercise in the a.m before everyone else is awake and in the evening a little after dinner and to have everyone asleep by 9 so we all get enough sleep thats my goal.

Wow! I'm not sure why some of you think you need exercise! (just kidding, of course)

Does your 15 yo not do most of his studies independantly? Or are you taking these classes? You sound really on top of the gardening, laundry, and housekeeping. Couldn't that be counted as exercise?

I'm new but I thought maybe I'd add my perspective on this. I have 7 kids, and homeschool all but one. (1 graduated, YAY!).

My mom always tells me I do too much, but I always tell her it's my "season of business". I can totally relate to what you are saying about the business of your season! You and I sound a lot alike! I have kids at every level of learning right now, from preK to High School. I will be teaching a co-op class, teach @ church (at times 3 classes a week) and am the Nursery coordinator. We also have some kids doing sports and some who will begin ballet (Lord willing). I have 4 kids taking piano lessons and 1 teen who teaches as an intern with the piano teacher and will need transported a couple of days a week for that. I have a whole slew of other things on plate that keeps me hopping. One of my children has an auditory processing disorder, dyslexia and more than likely fetal alcohol syndrome (he was adopted). The laundry alone for this crew is a part time job, lol!

Since I am going to lose this weight, I know that I'm going to have to prioritize to fit in exercise!

I've made up my mind that I'm going to lose the weight and get healthier, so therefore, other's will have to help with laundry and housework. The house may be messy when I go to bed on my exercise days...they will survive:) I may have to get up earlier to fit exercise in (but I doubt I'll get up real early for that....I need sleep too!)

I'm even considering exercising for 10 minutes in the morning, at lunch and in the evening to get my 30 minutes in.

I'm keep my standards and expectations at an achievable level for me (which I know is different for others). But right now what's achievable for me is 30 minutes, 3 times per week. Sometimes I can and do exercise more. But I going to try to make my minimum every week (except under extenuating circumstances).

A few years ago, I was told I had borderline high blood pressure, pre-diabetic, and my cholesterol was slightly too high. Knowing all these things, I know my family would rather have a messy house (not filthy) and a healthy wife/mom. That's going to be my priority.

I hope you can find what works for you!

Start with just 10 minutes a day. Even that busy you should be able to work in 10 minutes of something. Jog in place while waiting on dinner to cook or while your kids are working. I get a lot of steps in during dinner cooking time on my pedometer. I just march or jog in place and sometimes even dance to upbeat music while I am cooking and I try to stay on my feet the entire time.

Add a daily PE requirement?

Don't forget that gardening and housework count as a physical activities

As for the eating, stock up on lots of good snacks (or pull them from the garden) Fruits, veggies and proper hydration, will help ward off hungry. Activity asking yourself "Am I really hungry?" should help from mindless eating when you pick up a food.

Fwiw, my son is 6 and eats from the moment he wakes until he passes back out. I actually find the amount of food my kids consume to be kinda of sickening.

So, we start schooling on Monday--High School--Freshman year. So how, when so busy with Algebra II, Biology, Writing, Speech, Health, World History, World Literature, Computer class, at home (with a dyslexic) and teaching Sunday School and a jr hi co-op class on the Revolutionary War, as well as housework, meals (2 a day as my hubby comes home for lunch), laundry (we hang it outside), the garden and canning.......HOW DO I STAY MOTIVATED to exercise and how do I stay out of the pantry while 15yo son eats 8-10 meals a day in front of me while we school??!?!?!??!?!?! emoticon

Blessings,
Heidi
